Work Text:
Todoroki was peeved to say the least. It was far too early to even fathom those things Midoriya was wearing.
Mina truly was attempting to make him burn the whole dorm down. This was the fifth time this week.
The fifth time he was having steam curling from his fingertips and frost spanning over his cheeks. The fifth time Mina had decided to dress Midoriya for the day because he was such a good model.
Today it was a pair of leggings, hugging his thighs and calves, leaving absolutely nothing to the imagination. And if that weren't enough, she had him in a loose white sweater that slipped off of one shoulder, revealing tanned collarbones dotted in little freckles that Todoroki wanted to press his lips to in reverence.
And, oh god, his hair...
It was usually fluffy and curly, like a cat’s fur, and Midoriya let him run his hands through it whenever he needed to ground himself but today it was tied in a half ponytail, leaving his bangs to frame his face, accentuating the big, glossy green eyes and sunshine smile.
Hell. You could see his jawline. How could someone so squishy be so damn sharp?
To be fair, they wouldn't even have this problem if Iida had and Momo hadn't decided to hold early morning group study sessions to stimulate brain activity.
He had no stimulation for brain activity. The only stimulation he was getting right now was Midoriya and his hair. Midoriya and his legs. Midoriya and his eyes. Midoriya.
He must have been staring for too long because the class was staring at him, while Mina blinked from him to a concerned Midoriya with what appeared to be dawning realization, her expression one of sheer venomous glee.
Fuck.
"Um... Todoroki-kun, you're steaming.... and you froze your pen,” Midoriya pointed out sweet as ever.
Shoto stared at his hands, clearing his throat and calling upon all self-control to not burst into flames because Midoriya Izuku was looking at him with those eyes, those fucking green eyes that left his heart hammering and breaths stuttering.
What were words again?
"Oh, yes. I must be... tired. I apologize."
Bakugo, who had been dragged in by Kirishima, rolled his eyes and glanced with a click of his tongue between the two of them and that was enough for Todoroki to realize he hadn't been as stealthy as he thought in hiding his emotions. These feelings that had been festering since the Sports festival back in 1st year. It’s been two years he should have at least learned to hide it better. Or grown a pair, as Bakugo phrased, and just asked him out. They were almost Pro Heroes. He could defeat a villain twice his size and sass his father but not use his stupid mouth and ask out his gorgeous classmate?
Who was he kidding? Of course he couldn’t. It was Midoriya.
The session resumed, seemingly uninterrupted, as Todoroki went through varying stages of panic for the next few weeks at suddenly having the urge to do something about these feelings but having no damn clue as to what.
During another session, as he watched Midoriya delightedly explain quirk analysis theories with shining eyes and bunched up cheeks, curls bouncing, his brain decided to attack him.
Should he court Midoriya? Did they still do that? Would that be appropriate? Is courtship even allowed in UA? What if Midoriya said no?
Of course he would say no, Todoroki was far too cold, and emotionally, and socially, inept for someone as bright as Midoriya Izuku to want.
Or he might say yes out of obligation and Todoroki would know. He would know and it would tear and gnaw at him because it would be the exact same thing his father did to his mother and then he would break it off. Immediately.
It would be disastrous, a destruction of the first friendship he had ever built. A catastrophic storm would come and they would never speak again because Midoriya would be uncomfortable, or feel betrayed, or angry even and Todoroki would be... so sad.
"Todoroki-kun!"
He blinked, registering smoke and a vague heat emanating from his chest before water was dumped on him, making him gasp and splutter. Steam rose from his left side in a wave and a hit of cold air made him realize he had managed to set himself on fire and burn through half his shirt. Bakugo threw the bucket- where did that come from? Did they just keep it ready? Were they anticipating this? - To a corner of the common room before grabbing his shoulders while he was still recovering from the sudden reminder of his physical existence.
"Get a fucking grip Icy Hot. Jesus, just tell him how you feel, I'm fucking sick of watching you and that damn nerd dance around each other since the fucking internships from fucking first year for crying out loud," he snarled, shaking Todoroki roughly before plopping down with a grunt. He hadn't been quiet either because when was Bakugo ever quiet really.
(Well except when Kirishima would lean on him and whisper something in his ear, then he would slowly turn red and grumble whisper before they both vanished. Todoroki was sure they were doing something illicit)
The class was watching him, not with repulsion, but with... were they amused? How was this funny?
Midoriya was however, so red, he was the exact same color as the left side of Todoroki's hair.
Momo cleared her throat, "Let's stop for today... I think Todoroki-kun and Midoriya-kun need to talk about something. C'mon everyone."
Todoroki felt his face heat up as he and Midoriya stuttered, "What?"
Iida stared at them seriously. "Well it is quite obvious that the two of you harbor more than platonic feelings for each other. It's also interfering with your abilities to concentrate academically, considering Todoroki- kun’s inability to control his quirk in Midoriya- kun’s presence and Midoriya- kun’s inability to concentrate in practical hero training because of Todoroki-kun,” he paused, registering what must have been quite an expressive expression on Todoroki’s usually blank face. Midoriya seemed to be finding difficulty in breathing, at which Todoroki would have been concerned if he wasn’t reeling.
Iida continued, “Which is why we will now leave the two of you alone so you can sort out the matter and get back to your hero training without further distraction as after all, this is our final year. Please refrain from engaging in any unethical behaviour in the common room. It is a public space."
"Unethical?" Todoroki murmured.
"Obvious?!" Midoriya squeaked.
