Work Text:
Seungwan isn’t great at drinking.
Joohyun knows this, as they’re cuddling on her living room floor, leant back against the sofa for support, after Seungwan had insisted that Joohyun’s new promotion at work definitely deserved a small COVID-safe celebration.
“Pace yourself, Wan-ah.” The older girl guides a slice of shrimp and bulgogi pizza up to her dazed girlfriend, who jumps when the food touches her lips, but blearily takes a bite. “You’ve had too much soju and not enough food.”
Clearly off the planet, Seungwan munches loudly, turning to throw Joohyun a lopsided, pizza-stuffed grin. She blinks hard, as if a sudden thought had obscured her mind. “Hey unnie… I meant to congratulate you on promo— on you getting that promotion… did—did I do that yet?”
Joohyun chuckles. She looks at their coffee table that’s decorated with two combination pizzas with golden cheese crust, corn chips, super ring, cola and a chocolate ganache cake littered with fresh berries that the younger had rushed to bake the minute Joohyun called home with the news.
She gives her a quick kiss on the cheek. “Yes, Wannie, you have. I love you.”
“I’m also love too you as well a lot, unnie,” Seungwan paws at Joohyun’s sleeve in a mild panic. “But I think… I think the house is moving…”
“Moving?” Joohyun’s eyes scrunch into amused crescents. Also, like every baby drinker, Seungwan can’t tell when she’s drunk until the world is a spinning carousel and all the bathrooms seem to disappear.
“Yeah, I think I’m just seeing things,” Seungwan slurs, reaching over to wiggle all the HiteJinro bottles till she finds one that isn’t empty. “Might have to take a shot for that, just in case…”
But before she can take another swig, Joohyun’s hand encases hers, gently but firmly replacing the alcohol with a glass of water. When Seungwan grumbles cutely, Joohyun coos sympathetically and rubs her back. “Aigo, Wannie-ah… you need some water.”
She supervises for a moment before pushing up from the floor, her own vision slightly tilted from the peach buzz of Chamisul. Gravity calls to her twice as loudly, and the floor seems to be made of pillows, but she’s able to shake it off and collect all the cans and bottles they’ve spent the entire evening emptying in her arms. Thank god there’s one responsible adult in this relationship, she thinks as she heads over to the sink, virescent glass clinking softly as she does.
Seungwan follows along like a little puppy, pulling up a stool to the kitchen counter so she can be closeby while Joohyun rinses out the bottles.
Washing out the bottles is a fairly quick affair, and Joohyun lets them drip-dry upside-down on the dish rack. When she turns around, she can’t help melting at the sight of her girlfriend’s tipsy grin, cheeks rosy from fruity alcohol and sweet love.
She walks over and tenderly cups her face in her palms. “How do you feel?”
Seungwan’s hands come up to layer over Joohyun’s. “Hngh… swirly? Spinny? You’re in slow-motion, unnie… you’re so pretty in slow-mo…”
“That so?” Joohyun’s rosebud lips pull into a teasing smirk. ‘Prettier than usual?”
Seungwan blinks her eyes shut, actively re-focusing before intently surveying Joohyun’s face again. “Same level pretty, just… in slow-mo. Easier to see.”
Joohyun slips her hands from her face to drape them over her shoulders. She leans in to give Seungwan a quick kiss on the nose, because she’s earned it. “You know what, I’m kinda ready for bed now.” Muted, happy noises emit from the younger girl as Joohyun soothingly runs her hands up and down her sides and peppers her head in kisses to urge her to get up and go with her.
“U-Unnie…”
“Hm?”
Seungwan stands on jelly knees, clinging onto Joohyun’s front for support but still somehow managing to look shy. “D’you think… I could sleepover too? If—If that’s okay, of course…”
Joohyun’s brow arches at the death grip Seungwan’s hand has on her right boob. She doesn’t have the energy nor the heart to explain that Seungwan has lived here as long as she has, because they moved in together when they started dating. But she supposes it’ll be cute seeing the shock splashed on Seungwan’s face when she finds out that she— for whatever strange reason— already has a toothbrush, a towel and her own underwear drawer in her ‘Joohyun unnie’s house’?
“Yes, Wannie, we can have a sleepover.”
They wash up, Joohyun making sure Seungwan’s face is wiped clean from the copious amounts of facewash she’s decided to lather on, before she’s steering them in the direction of their bed.
Translucent milky moonlight bathes them through the curtains as Joohyun connects their lips once more. She presses their foreheads together. “Love you.”
“Wuv you Hyunnie…”
Joohyun laughs. “You’re so cute when you’re drunk. It really brings out your aegyo.”
In the darkness, she can see the ruffled pout on Seungwan’s face and she has to resist pinching those mochi cheeks for fear of causing an even bigger pout. Joohyun reaches up and Seungwan obediently ducks her head down so the older girl can smooth messy caramel locks back into place. Seungwan looks so pretty in the pale hues of the night that it’s getting hard for Joohyun to stand how much she loves her at this moment. A subconscious possessive spark flicks in her brain. Mine. She’s mine, all mine.
“C’mon,” Joohyun finally prompts, “sleep time for us.”
Their bedtime escapade is halted slightly by Seungwan, who still seems to think she’s just a house guest and not the other literal half to Joohyun’s four-year-long relationship. “I could… just sleep on the ground if you want to take the bed, unnie… just don’t wanna sleep on the sofa alone. I hate sleeping without you.”
“I know, me too.” Joohyun says tiredly. She knows that better than anyone, yet she still pretends to consider the idea before laying them both down, face-to-face. “Let’s share the bed.”
She wraps an arm around Seungwan’s waist so the other girl can’t do anything but squirm into her. Their surroundings are dimming now. She’s so sleepy, and taking care of drunk Seungwan is like taking care of a confused, well-meaning five-year-old, but when Seungwan looks at her like she’s more beautiful than the richest treasures of all the universes— well, Joohyun decides she should get her drunk more often.
