"Moonyyy."
No response.
"Pleasee, Moons, don't ignore meee."
Still no response.
"My moonbe-"
"God, you're really annoying, Black." Remus finally looked up from his book.
"Now that I have your attention," Sirius grinned. "I want you to teach me Spanish."
Remus raised an eyebrow.
"Oh don't look at me like that, I asked nicely!"
"You call bothering me for half an hour 'asking nicely'?"
"Okay, yeah, I could have asked when you finished reading, but now you've already stopped, so I don't see why not."
"I don't see why ."
"Well, I want to learn Spanish, and, oh, you just happen to know Spanish. Isn't it a marvellous coincidence?"
Remus rolled his eyes and sighed. Just as he was going to open back his book, Sirius gave him his best puppy eyes, alongside a way-too-adorable pout, so he just sighed again and put his book on the nightstand.
"Fine."
Sirius tackled him into a bear hug. "Thanks, Moony!"
After freeing himself from underneath Sirius' body, Remus sat up on his bed, and Sirius in front of him, both cross-legged.
"Alright," He started. "D'you know any Spanish? At all?"
"Just some words."
Remus sighed again and accio-ed a piece of parchment and a quill.
"Okay, so we're gonna start with some basic words and sentences. I'm going to say them out loud, and I want you to repeat after me, yeah?"
Sirius smiled eagerly and nodded.
Two hours later, he had two and a half inches of parchment full of vocabulary and could properly say a few sentences.
Remus had been patient with him, though he laughed at him many times, good-naturedly, of course.
Strangely enough, James and Peter hadn't come in to the dorm the whole time, so there were no interruptions.
Remus checked the time and was surprised to see that they'd been there for two hours.
"Alright, I think that's enough for today. You still have to finish your Charms' essay."
"Just a bit more, please?" Sirius said. "I still need you to help me with something."
"I'm not writing your essay."
Sirius smiled. "That's not what I was going to ask, Moony, dear."
Remus squinted his eyes suspiciously, but said "Alright, fine. But first I gotta use the restroom."
After the little break, they were sitting back on Remus' bed, though now Sirius sat a little closer to him, as their knees were touching.
"Can you… Okay, I need you to translate some sentences for me, please."
"D'you want me to write them down?"
"Nah, it's fine."
Remus made a gesture with his hands for Sirius to start.
"Um, how do you say 'I like you a lot'?"
"'Me gustas mucho.'"
"Me gustas mucho." Sirius repeated, and Remus nodded.
"But remember what I said earlier, you don't have to close the 'o' in 'mucho', it's 'mucho', not 'muchou.'"
"Me gustas mucho." Sirius said again. "Like that? Did I say it correctly?"
"Yeah, very good."
Sirius smiled. "And how do you say 'you look very adorable?"
Remus opened his mouth to translate, closed it, frowned and opened it again.
"May I ask why you need me to translate that?"
"Oh," Sirius chuckled nervously. "There's this person I like, really like, and I want to tell them. Once and for all."
"First of all, you didn't tell me you liked someone! Does James know?"
"Well, I'm telling you now, aren't I?" Sirius smiled shyly. "And James does know. But I didn't tell him, he just figured it out on his own."
Remus nodded slowly. "And secondly, don't you speak French? That's like, the most romantic language, or whatever, so why Spanish?"
"Er…, because this person doesn't know French, so he probably wouldn't understand if I told them. They do know Spanish, however, and plus, I thought it'd be nicer if I learned a new language just to tell them I like them."
Remus nodded, but his mind was spinning around what he supposed was just a slip of Sirius' tongue. "He?"
Sirius looked at him with an unreadable expression. "He." He confirmed, and his gaze turned into a nervous one. "Is that- I mean, are you okay with that?"
"What? Of course! Sirius, you don't need my permission to like someone. Or anyone's permission, for that matter. Of course it's okay." He said reassuringly.
Sirius smiled, and he tried to contain himself, but he couldn't, so he launched forward and squeezed Remus in a hug. Remus laughed as he patted his back, and then he tried to pull Sirius away, as he was about to crush his ribs.
"Sorry, Moonshine." He finally let go and sat back in front of him. "So. You are really adorable."
"Yeah, right," Remus straightened his shirt. "Um, 'eres muy adorable'. You could also say 'eres muy mono'."
"Mono?" He checked his vocabulary list. "Isn't that monkey?"
Remus laughed. "Technically, yeah. But it means cute, as well."
"I swear, Moony, if you're making me tell this person that they look like a monkey, I'll transfigure you into one!" Sirius laughed.
Remus laughed again and shook his head. "You won't tell him he looks like a monkey, trust me."
Sirius tried to squint his eyes suspiciously, but his huge grin betrayed him.
"Anyway, how do you say that, again?"
"'Eres muy mono'. And if it were a girl, you'd have to say 'mona.'"
"Okay. Eres muy mono. Eres muy mono…" He repeated it a few times under his breath to memorise it, nervously fiddling with the blanket.
Remus smiled softly at him. "You must really like this person, huh?"
A fond smile appeared on Sirius' face. "You have no idea, Moony." He lay on his back and closed his eyes, as he started rambling about his mysterious guy. "He really is beautiful, and too adorable for his own good, Moony. And it's not just his appearance that I love. He's easily the nicest person around here, though he's one sarcastic little shit most of the time, you know? He also gives the best hugs, and is great at comforting people."
Though he would never, ever admit it, Remus felt a pang of jealousy at that. But only because this guy apparently gave better hugs than him, and Sirius had said multiple times that he gave the best hugs. It had definitely, absolutely, totally nothing to do with the fact that he liked Sirius and he was so smitten with someone he'd never even heard of.
"You should tell him all that." Remus spoke after a while.
"Yeah, sorry about that." Sirius finally sat up, cheeks flushed. "You know, Moony, I spend so much time with him already, I'm surprised he isn't fed up with me yet. Sometimes I think it's because he likes me back, but I try not to get my hopes up. He's easily the one person I spend most of my time with, and I wouldn't want to lose that."
"That's not true, I'm the one you spend most of your time with. I should know, as you don't exactly go unperceived." He smiled. "Unless you secretly have a time-turner you use to spend more time with your guy."
Sirius let out a laugh. "You caught me, Moons."
He rolled his eyes fondly. "Need any more translations or am I finally free to go?"
Sirius grinned, though he looked more nervous than earlier. "How would you say 'I think you're really cute and I like you a lot, would you like to go on a date with me?'" He spoke, making eye contact with Remus, whose heart skipped a beat.
"'Me pareces muy adorable y me gustas mucho. ¿Te gustaría salir conmigo?'"
Sirius nodded, taking that in. "Te amo."
Remus' eyes widened. "What?"
He blushed furiously. "Te… wasn't that 'I love you'?" He asked, not meeting Remus' eye.
"Oh," he chuckled awkwardly. "Yeah, it does. But if it's the first time you say that to your guy, you should definitely go with 'te quiero'. 'Te amo' is like, more intense? You know, something you'd say to your partner. But if say, you're on your first date, just say 'te quiero', unless you wanna scare them out, that is."
"Noted." Sirius paused. "I'm sorry, could you repeat that again?"
"Sure. 'Eres muy adorable y me gustas mucho. ¿Te gustaría salir conmigo?'" He repeated. "You sure you don't want me to write that down for you?"
"Yeah, it's fine. Thanks though." He smiled softly.
Remus smiled back and his stomach grumbled, making both boys laugh.
Once in the great hall (James and Peter were still nowhere to be seen), Sirius spoke.
"I'm gonna tell him after lunch." He said, a determined look on his face, and Remus just squeezed his arm to show him his support, his mouth too stuffed with food to even speak.
After lunch, though, Remus went back to the dorm, where he lay on his bed, and Sirius entered not long after.
Remus sat up. "Well, that was fast." He joked.
Sirius sat next to him. "I need to practice before, Moony."
"Go ahead, then." He then smiled. "I'll try not to laugh."
Sirius nodded. "Alright, Moons," He cleared his throat. "eres muy adorable. Um, me gus… how was it? me gustas mucho, yeah, and, uh, te gusta conmigo."
Remus smiled. "You almost got it. That last part is a question, though, you said it as a statement. And it's '¿te gustaría salir conmigo?'"
"Shit. Uh, ¿Te gustaría salir conmigo? Me gustas mucho y eres muy adorable."
"That's it." He smiled.
Sirius repeated the question and Remus nodded again. "Amazing, Pads, you got this." He encouraged.
And again, Sirius asked once more, and Remus just smiled and nodded, completely unaware of what he was trying to do.
"Well then, go ask him! You'll do great, I'm sure." He prodded him to get up.
Sirius stood up, incredulous about his friend's obliviousness. He walked towards the door, and when he turned and saw Remus give him a thumbs up, he walked back to the bed and sat down on the edge of the bed.
"What's wrong?"
"You know, Moons, I have a feeling this person won't get what I'm saying. Is there any other way to make it more clear?"
"...I don't think so? That seems pretty clear to me, I don't know how you can make it more obvious. You're literally saying you like them and want to go out with them."
Sirius let out a huff of air "Yeah, right." He worried at his lip. "Okay. How about," He shuffled on the bed so that he was sitting in front of Remus, and looked him right in the eye. "I really like you, and I have for a long while, and I tried to tell you multiple times over the last two years but you're always so oblivious and never realise what I'm trying to say. And I really hope I'm not just reading too much into it, but sometimes I feel like you really, genuinely, like me as well. But if you don't, it's totally fine, and please know that I'm not pressuring you or anything." He paused to take a breath. "D'you think that'll do?"
Remus blinked. Was he talking about him or not? Man, he really hopes he's talking about him.
"I think that's pretty clear, yeah."
"And…" Sirius still wasn't sure they were on the same page. "What would you answer?"
Silence.
"Me?"
Sirius groaned and buried his face on Remus' lap.
"You're really dense sometimes, you know that?"
He looked up and saw Remus' flushed face.
"Moony. Moons. Re. Yes, I was talking about you. Yes, it's you whom I like. No, there's no other guy. No, you don't have to agree to going out with me, and yes, I'd like you to give me an answer. Please."
Remus, still blushing, smiled lightly. "I'd say 'por supuesto.'"
Sirius frowned. "Is that a good thing or a bad thing?" Remus didn't answer. "Moony? Moony what does that mean? Is it good?"
"Por supuesto." Remus repeated. When he saw Sirius' worried and slightly scared look, though, he laughed and held his hand. "Sí, Sirius. It means of course." He smiled. "I'd love to go out with you."
Sirius beamed at him and buried him in a hug, kissing his cheek repeatedly.
"¡Te amo, Moony, te amo!"
And he didn't scare him off.
