Wild One

Summary:

Jay and Hailey have their hands full with one Wild but happy teenager.

Chapter Text

Kamryn Halstead was the sweetest but sassiest 16 year old you could meet. Everyone loved her. She was born to Jay and Hailey Halstead and since day 1, has had her family. The ones that look out for her, protect her, and somehow make it to every volleyball game they can. They check in on her when she's in a rough spot, and always get her the help she needs in school. Hailey and Jay aren't too strict on her but they have their moments when it comes to school.

After school, Kamryn walked to the district that was somewhat close to her school.
"Hey Trudy, they up there?" Kam asked as she entered District 21, where her parents worked.
"Yeah, I think working a case"
"Buzz me in?" Kam asked, leaning against the sergeant's desk.
"Kamryn, I think it's best if you stay down here." Trudy tried to tell her but the teen was usually pretty adamant about saying hi to her parents.
"Trudy, please. I just want to say hi to mom and dad" Kam told her, Trudy giving in and letting the teenager go upstairs. She went right in and smiled as they were all at their desks. Jay and Hailey were right next to each other.
"Hey Kam," Jay said as he saw his child. "Got homework?"
"Do you know my teachers? Pretty sure homework is a daily thing that they like to pile on until we're up to our eyeballs in assignments" Kamryn sighed, setting her bag on his desk.
"I think you're being a tad bit dramatic," Jay said, continuing to look at his computer.
"Not really. Hansen is an a-hole" She sighed, walking with Jay to the coffee/break room.
"Language Kamryn" Hailey said as she watched her teenage daughter and husband walk into the room.
"Relax mom, I didn't even say the real word."
"Still Kam. I hear enough of it, I don't want to hear it out of my child's mouth." Hailey told her daughter sternly.
"Okay fine, sorry mom"
"Get that homework done and make sure you-" Hailey started but was cut off by her daughter.
"Don't leave the district without letting you know" Kamryn finished for her mother.
"Smart kid" Jay chuckled.

So Kamryn hung out at the district while both of her parents were out on the case. She went downstairs a little later to hang out with Trudy as she'd always been told to stay at the district.
"When are they coming back?" Kam exclaimed, getting bored by the minute. SHe'd done all her homework, watched every video she could on youtube, and was now curing boredom by spinning in a rolly chair.
"I don't know. But you can probably go home if you wanted" Trudy told her, doing some work on the computer.
"I can't leave the district without telling my mom and dad" Kamryn mumbled, playing a random game on her phone.
"I can drive you home. You can call and okay it with your parents. I'm sure they won't care."
"I'll just wait for them" she sighed and went back upstairs. She sighed and sat on the couch in the break room. Soon enough, she was laying down and fell asleep, taking a nap that turned into longer than just a nap.

Around 8, the team returned to see Kamryn still sound asleep.
"That's cute" Kim chuckled, "I'll see you guys later. I have to go let Gabi go home"
"I'm sure Makayla is waiting on you and Adam to tuck her in" Hailey chuckled.
"Looks like your girl is ready to go too" Kevin chuckled, getting all his things together.
"Yeah, she must've been bored." Jay chuckled, walking in to wake the girl up. "Kam. Wake up kiddo" he said, as he shook her shoulder.
"Hmm?" The girl mumbled, rubbing her eyes as she woke up.
"Time to go," Jay told her, Kamryn getting up and going out to the truck with them.
They all headed home and settled in for the night and the Halstead house was quiet.

Kamryn's alarm was going off at 6 am, and it was the only sound in the house. Jay was usually up, mostly to make sure the teenager got up and made the bus for school.
"Kamryn let's go" he sighed, knocking on her bedroom door.
"Dadddd, 5 more minutes" she mumbled, which just caused Jay to open up the door.
"Come on kid, you got school"
"Daaaaaddddddd" Kam protested but got up slowly with a groan.
"Kamryn" Jay said, sternly. Kamryn knew that voice so she got right up and started getting ready.
About 20 minutes later, the bus honked in front of their house.
"Kam, bus is here!" Jay yelled up the steps, soon hearing the footsteps of their daughter running down the steps. "Bye kiddo. Have a good day" Jay told the teenager, as she hugged him and Hailey before heading to the bus.

School was pretty run of the mill, Kamryn handed all her assignments in and aced a test she'd been studying for. She'd planned on going to the district after school as normal, but those plans were quickly deterred when she was grabbed from behind and knocked out a few blocks from the school.

At the district, they were working on the same case from the previous day when Hailey noticed the time. She checked her phone to see if Kamryn had texted her. She should've been at the district by now.
"What's up?" Jay asked, noticing the look on her face.
"Kam should be here by now but I have nothing from her," Hailey told him, trying not to worry.
"She's probably fine. Probably on her way now." Jay told her, now keeping an eye on the time as well.

Kamryn slowly woke up on a dirty mattress, in a dark, cold, musty basement. She sat up slowly and held her head.
"Ugh," she mumbled and started searching for her phone. When she tried to move her left arm, she couldn't. She was stuck. "What?" She mumbled and tried again. She was cuffed to a pipe that kept her on the mattress.
Someone came down with a dark mask on, so they weren't identifiable. They were tall and had a man's build and that was all Kam noticed.
"Oh. We'll look who's awake" the voice said. Now she knew it was a man.
"What did you do?" Kam mumbled, trying to control the pain in her head.
"Oh nothing, you're just gonna go back to sleep," he said, giving her a shot of something in her arm. Next thing Kam knew, she was passing out. She tried to keep herself awake but nothing. Everything went black.

Hailey had been working and now really noticed the time. She was past the getting worried, and now just scared. Kamryn was usually at the district by 4:15, and it was now almost 7.
"Have you heard from Kam?" She asked her husband, grabbing her phone to check it. Nothing.
"No. Not a thing" Jay was also sounding worried. Hailey pulled up the "find my" app on her phone and immediately looked up the location of Kamryn's phone. It was right on her route from school to the district.
"It says she's still on 2nd street. She usually comes that way. What is she doing?" Hailey mumbled as she called. No answer, which was not like Kam at all. Especially when her mom or dad called, she always picked up on the first ring.
"Hey, it's Kam. You know what to do and if you don't....no. You definitely know. Leave a message!" The voicemail picked up.
"Kamryn Grace. You better call me back right now. You were supposed to be here 3 hours ago! Call me" Hailey told the voicemail before hanging up.
"She didn't answer?" Jay asked.
"No. That's not like her" Hailey mumbled, now texting her daughter to call her.
Jay got up and went to Voight immediately. "Hey, Sarge. We got a problem"
Voight looked up, with a face that gave him the go ahead to keep talking.
"Kamryn was supposed to be here around 4:15. Hailey just called her and she's not picking up her phone. We tracked it and it's on 2nd street. We need to go check this out." Jay told him, with a hint of urgency in his voice.
"Go," Voight said as he stood up.
Jay and Hailey immediately went down to the truck and headed to the location of the phone. When they arrived, all they saw was the phone. They'd thrown the backpack a few feet away and her watch had been thrown as well.
"Oh my god. That's Kam's bag" Hailey said, now terrified.
"And her watch" Jay sighed, picking the watch up off the ground. Kamryn rarely took her watch off, usually only to charge it.
Soon, the team was all pulling up, all exiting their cars, and walking over to the scene. All Jay had to do was hold up Kamryn's backpack and they knew. Something was terribly wrong.
