Phil, an ordinary 15-year-old from Manchester, is being evacuated to some tiny place down south to avoid getting blown up by a German bomb.
Dan works on his dad’s farm down south and is not too happy that he is going to have to share his room with a northern evacuee. That's only until he meets the boy though.
(fun fact: the keep calm and carry on poster was never actually released during the war. they tried to get rid of every copy but then some guy just found one and it became the face of 'blitz spirit' in england)

Summary
During a depressive episode, Dan starts thinking about how strange it is that water is necessary for human survival, but can also be deadly in so many ways (waterborne illnesses, flooding, accidental drownings, etc.). The more he thinks about this, the more his mental and physical health start to deteriorate. Phil doesn't understand Dan's obsession with water at first. By the time he realizes what's going on, damage has already been done.
