Umbrella

Summary:

It’s a rainy, foggy day. A small umbrella can’t possibly fit two male teenagers under it.

Can it?

“Exer! Wait up!”

David’s voice boomed from across the foggy street. He lightly jogged to catch up with Exer, waving his arms. Raindrops soaked David’s hair, leaving it flat and tangled.

“Exer- Exer!” David called out again.

Exer whipped his head around, searching for the source of voice through the fog. He heard the splashing of David’s shoes closer as they clashed with the water puddles. Once David was fully visible, he gave a smile. “There you are.”

David sneezed and slowed his pace next to Exer. “Holy sugar, it’s cold!” He shivered, hugging himself.

Exer was lucky enough to have an umbrella above him. It was quite small, though, with certainly not enough room for two people. David eyed the umbrella, but instead ripped off his backpack and placed it on top of his head. Yeah, sure, he probably looked extremely goofy, but if his hair got any wetter he was sure to be laughed at on the way home.

It seemed like that wouldn’t be the only outcome though, judging by the way the obvious giggles were heard from Exer; even as he tried to hide himself under the umbrella.

“It’s not funny!” David whined, clutching his backpack tighter.

Exer chuckled and shook his head. He held out the umbrella stem to David and offered a grin. “Take this. I don’t really need it anyway.” Exer shrugged.

David sputtered. “What- No! No, it’s fine! I have my backpack-“ A faint blush coated his pearl white face as he babbled.

“Day,” Exer took a step closer to David, his face right in front of his. “take it. I don’t want you catching a cold.”

The mist clogged David’s breath. It's a moist feeling, wrapping itself around Exer and him, almost bringing them closer. It soon felt like their faces were only 2 inches apart, when really, neither of them had moved at all. David’s face flushed, twitching as the water droplets hit his skin. The fog was getting stronger, thicker, and the rain was becoming harder.

He was probably staring at Exer like a madman. He gulped, and gently took the umbrella stem from Exer’s hand. Exer’s face seemed normal, calm, and neutral. Nothing suspicious. Not even after David stared at him for a good twelve seconds. He looked, well, almost completely oblivious .

And that’s how things should be.

David clenched the umbrella. He shrugged his backpack off and let it hang off one of his shoulders, then held the umbrella above him. He smiled to himself, and spared a glance at Exer.

He was shivering, obviously cold. His hair was beginning to get soggy, and water dribbled down his head and face from the rain. He was wearing a simple polo shirt with the buttons undone as usual. David sighed and gently bit his lip.

“Wait a sec,” David mumbled just loud enough for Exer to hear.

He silently hoped Exer didn’t answer.

But, of course, luck was never his side.

Exer’s footing came to a halt, and he turned to face David.

“Hm?” Exer hummed. “What’s up?”

David, cmon, just do it. It won’t even look that weird.

David gulped.

“Well…uh, you look r-really cold too.” David stuttered, mentally blaming it on the shivering. “Why don’t we…just…?”

David moved closer up to Exer, squishing their shoulders side by side. He slowly wrapped a tentative arm around Exer. He already felt his face burning at this closeness, but he ignored it, in favor of setting the umbrella right above the top of them.

“Uh, here.” David mumbled. “So, we can…uh, both be under it.”

Exer’s body suddenly became stiff and David feared he would shrug him off. Instead, he also gently wrapped an arm around David, bringing him closer.

This type of closeness wasn’t new. No, certainly not. Most of the time you’d see Exer and David; they are always clinging to each other, with their arms draped around and completely hanging off of the other.

But, this . It felt…strangely intimate. They weren’t talking, laughing, or being silly. Just walking side by side. Incredibly close. Under an umbrella. With their arms around each other. Blushing—Or, at least, David was. He didn’t have the balls to even glance at Exer’s general direction.

It would have been such a better solution if they had Exer’s car. But, unfortunately, it had been wheeled off to a mechanic for a jump starter. Honestly, David wasn’t necessarily complaining. Getting to be this close with his…best friend, was nothing short of euphoric.

Exer’s body was warm, and he wrapped his arm tighter around him. David felt Exer’s hand that was originally placed on his shoulder blade slowly lower. It was now rubbing up and down his forearm, and David could swear a little piece of him exploded.

Oh my god.

Exer’s hand moved under David’s arm.

Oh my god.

He gently laid his hand over David’s back. The touch was barely there, almost phantom-like, but David felt it. He definitely felt it.

Is…

David’s brain completely lost it when Exer began to rub up and down his back.

Oh, sugar.

I hate this.

It was written in one day.

Kill me.
