Work Text:

It was a quiet Saturday morning for the Tadano household. The rays of sun shone through the bedroom windows, illuminating two figures in particular.

Shouko and Hitohito lay in bed together, Hitohito snored lightly while Shouko slept peacefully, clinging onto him tightly. The light of the sun caught something on both of their fingers. Two rings that signified they were one and forever would be.

Hitohito stirred as the alarm clock next to him hit 9AM, the shrill ringing being silenced soon after with a quick press. He half opened his eyes and yawned.

Carefully tilting his head down to look at Shouko, his hand drifted over to her head and he gently patted her. She smiled slightly in her sleep, hugging him closer. Hithohito’s heart never failed to skip a beat looking at her.

Gently removing her arms, he began to climb out of bed. It may have been a Saturday, but he still had duties to fulfill as a husband, like breakfast.

However he was soon stopped as he was pulled back into the bed and back into Shouko’s arms. Hitohito’s face flushed as he began to process what happened, “S-Shouko?” He stammered.

Her palms rubbed his chest and he felt her face in his back. “No,” She murmured.

His face was beet red, “B-but I need to cook breakfast and-”

Shouko cut him off by holding him closer. “Later,” She murmured again.

Hitohito’s mind was a mess, the rational part of his brain telling him to get up began to fight against the irrational one telling him to stay with Shouko.

“It’s your duty as a husband to get out of bed right now and make some good breakfast for your wife.”

“She wants you to stay, it is also your duty as a husband to tend to that.”

“DON’T LISTEN TO HIM-”

“Shhhh listen to me, cuddle your wife.”

It was obvious which one won as he turned around to face her, a nervous grin on his face. Shouko lit up almost immediately as their eyes met, a familiar pair of cat ears popping up on her head. “Okay, breakfast can wait.”

The rational side began to cry, the irrational side comforted it with gentle pats to the back. “He never listens to me…” It cried.

Shouko buried herself in his chest, startling Hitohito a bit. She looked up at him worried, “Sorry was that too sudden?” Her expression told him.

He shook his head, “No, not at all.” Satisfied with his answer, Shouko reverted back to her original position. They lay in a comfortable silence, shifting slightly as he felt Shouko’s breath against his chest.

This is nice.

A small voice piped up, snapping Hitohito out of his thoughts. “I-I’m sorry.”

He thought hard about what she could be sorry for then realized it with a snap. “Do you feel sorry for dragging me back into bed?” Shouko nodded.

He smiled warmly, stroking the back of her head. “You don’t need to feel sorry, I’m happy to do this for you anytime.”

Shouko looked up at him and stared into his eyes, she stared for a while until she spoke. “I-” She stammered, her voice catching in her throat.

A light blush graced her face, “I ...love you.”

The blush on Hitohito’s face was much more prevalent, “I love you more.”

Shouko’s blush matched his as she started to lightly hit Hitohito on the chest. He laughed and just took it, feigning groans of pain every time she did. Eventually they both got out of bed to go eat at around 10:20.

As Hitohito began to cook breakfast, he cast a glance back at Shouko, who was patiently waiting at the table.

His gaze was met with a warm smile.

Hitohito does not regret listening to the irrational part of his brain on this Saturday morning.
