Work Text:

Sawamura Eijun welcomed his high school life in open arms and bright as sun smile. Although he has some issues with people, he can manage! Yes! He’s totally fine. Even if that one senpai seems to find it funny to rile him up and be on his case 18 hours a day, he’s totally fine!

He just find that one Miyuki Kazuya a whole lot annoying, intriguing and annoying. Annoying, but the bearable kind.

**

It was his first day at practice.

He was late.

It wasn’t supposed to be that bad, not until Miyuki thought it’s fun to push him in a pit that is Coach Kataoka’s fury.

Nonetheless, Miyuki dragged him to apologize after a whole day of running to lessen the Coach’s anger. That didn’t mean he forgave that damned tanuki though?! He’s hella pissed that he ignored him through-out the day, even though the said catcher was offering a catching session as an apology.

**

Eijun was with his year mates then. Eating dinner at one side of the farthest table from the dining hall entrance. They were all telling funny and embarrassing stories that would make them so embarrassed if it actually happened to them.

It was Eijun’s turn when Miyuki got near them.

“That ended up in a BIG disaster!! I don’t even want to remember their faces when that random kid stated legal business laws about consumer rights. Just think about it, they could have just given the frick’n soy sauce and everything would be done in a blink!!” Eijun exaggeratedly pulled on his hair. “I can’t believe they almost went to court for a frick’n soy sauce that’s supposed to be free!! How the hell did they make the scene so big is beyond me! In the end our group got banned at that exact diner…” At the last sentence, Eijun didn’t know whether to laugh with them or cry tears of grief. It wasn’t even their fault that there’s no available soy sauce on their table?!

They were all laughing at Eijun’s expense. They can clearly see how their dramatic friend got banned from a diner just because of a condiment!!

“Hahahaha. That’s so totally like you Bakamura!! I can’t believe you got banned for a soy sauce!!”

The first years were a little surprised to see the team’s main catcher laughing with them as the said catcher sat down at the unoccupied seat beside the loudmouth.

“Are you even listening to my story correctly?! I said I didn’t do anything at all!! I was just asking for soy sauce!! I don’t even know that kid!?” Eijun snapped at him. “And don’t call me Bakamura!! You tanuki bastard!!”

“Ahahahahaha. You’re the best Sawamoron! You even recruited a kid to save you!” Miyuki continued laughing.

“ARGH!! Damn you! I said it already!! I’m not one bit related to that kiiiiid!! And stop calling me that!!”

**

“Oi. Bakamura!” Miyuki called out to the running Eijun.

Eijun stopped on his tracks after hearing the catcher call him out. “What?”

“It’s okay if you think baseball is boring you know?” Miyuki smirked at him.

“What the hell are you talking about?” Eijun shouted, extremely offended. Who the hell was spreading rumors that baseball is boring?! He wanted to talk to whoever that was.

“It’s okay~” Miyuki snickered. “It’s kinda a smart person’s sport after all.” then he went off running.

Eijun shut his eyes tightly, taking in deep calming breaths. After a while he snapped and screamed. “MIYUKI KAZUYAAAAA! You really won’t leave me alone even just for one day!! You’re a menace!!! You hear me!!!”

“Oi Sawamura, shut up!!” Someone, somewhere in the field shouted back.

Eijun would really like to split Miyuki’s head open one day. He wanted to see what kind of shit he cooks in there just to piss him off every time they meet! He can’t even decide from being offended and just laughing it off because Miyuki’s joke is just that. It’s too pitiful that he can’t even bring himself to tell Miyuki how bad his jokes are. He can’t laugh at it even if he wanted to!!

**

Eijun noticed something intriguing. Miyuki seems to be always watching him.

**

“Oi, Sawamura. Here.” Miyuki handed Eijun a hot chocolate drink. “No need for thanks~”

Eijun deadpanned at the drink and then looked at the blazing sun above his head. Seriously? He liked the drink, just not in this weather?!

**

“Ei-chan~”

Eijun cringed at the small voice Miyuki used to call on him. “W-what? You’re creeping me out. Please stop that!”

Miyuki barged in the first years classroom and handed Eijun a wrapped box. “We baked cupcakes at home economics. I heard you like these things. Here, our left over~ your favorite~” Miyuki turned and walked out without waiting for a reply.

“Uhh. Thank you?” Eijun curiously opened the box and there he saw three strawberry flavored cupcakes. Oh this is nice. Even though he favored chocolate flavor than strawberry, he can’t be picky now, can he? It’s free food!

Anyway, how did even Miyuki inferred that he liked strawberry cupcake?

(That night, he remembered eating strawberry cupcakes three days straight as a dare before.) Miyuki probably saw him and thought he loves it.

**

The pitchers and catchers were reviewing their previous games. They’re having this meeting at Miyuki’s room.

Eijun conveniently sat at the floor just beside the desk where Miyuki is at.

He was reading the score book recorded by the managers. Without knowing, Eijun was already squinting at it because he couldn’t read the extremely small notes the managers left at the footnote.

“Can’t read it?” Eijun almost jumped at the voice. He was too focused he forgot that Miyuki was by his side.

“I can.”

“Oh right. You kinda got blurry eyesight?” Miyuki once again asked.

“What?” Eijun was confused.

“I saw you wearing glasses at your class one time.” Miyuki handed him the score book he was reading and took the one in Eijun’s hand. “Here. This one is clearer.”

Eijun wordlessly accepted the book. How the hell did he got bad eyesight without him knowing himself?! Miyuki was clearly thinking of something that’s not correct. He had to tell him the truth, but seeing the satisfied look Miyuki is sporting he can’t bring himself to say that; ‘No, actually the writing is just not that good. I can see perfectly well, thank you for worrying.’

**

When Miyuki started telling Eijun random facts about himself, Eijun should have known something will happen.

**

They were buying drinks from the vending machine when Miyuki told him his preferences out of the blue.

“I would prefer coffee at anytime of the day but when it’s too hot and I’m thirsty I liked pocari better.”

Okay? What was he supposed to say? Nice pick?

**

“D’you know? I’ve never had a girlfriend. Or boyfriend. I don’t even had a crush before.”

??!! And then?! Actually, what the hell?

**

“I’m actually an only child. Though, I don’t think I would be able to manage if I have a sibling.”

Damn! Same here?! Like I know? I’m an only child too?

**

“I’ll go straight to PRO after high school. Would Giant’s uniform look good on me?”

“WHAT!? You said you haven’t thought of that?” Eijun just wanted to slap some sense into Miyuki, in Sawamura style. Why the hell was he dropping this bomb like he’s just telling him what he like for dinner?!

**

After Miyuki’s batch graduated, Eijun came into a big realization. He actually missed Miyuki’s meddling.

Eijun’s everyday life couldn’t even be called quiet, but the loss of Miyuki’s constant jokes, treats and random facts somehow made it seem a little dull.

**

Some time after the graduation, Miyuki entered the Pro leagues in great fanfare.

News about him spread everywhere. Especially after consecutive wins he led the team in.

**

Eijun LIKES Miyuki Kazuya.

He just realized he’s been crushing on Miyuki for a long time now and hearing news about him everywhere doesn’t help his case at all. So if he actually impulsively called Miyuki one night to confess, no one has to know~~

**

Eijun would hear them say that Miyuki never changed.

Still an asshole. As snarky as ever. A genius would always be a genius. Emotionally stunted or some speculations everyone had on him.

Though, Eijun would beg to differ.

Miyuki Kazuya was and is not an asshole. Okay he can act like he is sometimes but he’s not. Being snarky though is second nature but he actually meant well. Just trust him in that, he had enough experience of that to last a lifetime. A genius, well, he is but that’s not all there is to him. He’s a hard worker. He is a combination of talent, hard work and passion. Finally, emotionally stunted. Excuse his words but, what the fvck? Have they seen the guy? Does Miyuki Kazuya looked like someone who passes the blame on someone? Does he look immature to them? If anything, Miyuki matured early!

**

To Eijun’s delight. Kuramochi scheduled a hangout by the weekend. Almost all of the first string graduate of their batch is coming. Even the golden boy, youngest main catcher of the Yomiuri Giants, Miyuki Kazuya.

**

It’s all good and well.

Not until Eijun’s problem with people came out.

**

Kuramochi and Eijun got there, at the cafe, first. And Kuramochi missed Eijun. So he showed his feelings in a way he knew. Wrestling match.

“Agh!! Mochi-senpai!! Give! I give up!!” Eijun practically screamed. Not minding that they are in a public place.

“Hyahahaha! Who’s getting old now, huh? Sawamura?!” Kuramochi continued to hold him down on the floor.

“I am!! I’m getting old so get off me before I broke a bone!!!”

“Yoo~ Ei~chan~ still as noisy as ever huh?”

It took a moment before Eijun realized that the person in front is talking to him. Kuramochi let him go so he stood up and dust himself off.

“Uhh. Hi?” Eijun skeptically said.

“What now Sawamura? Is that how you greet your favorite senpai?~”

….

Kuramochi hovered. Like a shark smelling blood.

“I’m sorry, but. Who are you again?” Eijun asked the ‘stranger’.

The 'Stranger' choked.

“Hyahahahaha. Oh God!! This is GOLD!!!” Kuamochi rolled down laughing his lungs out.

Eijun is now sure. This supposed to be stranger is a friend.

And for the love of all baseball Gods!! he can’t remember who!!

He sure felt like he already saw this handsome face but he can’t remember!!! he feels so familiar but damn!!

“Oh no!! Miyuki!! Your Eijun forgot about you not even a year after!!! hahahahaha!” and Kuramochi died in laughing.

Miyuki seemed to snap out of the dreamland he’s in. “Seriously? Eijun? That’s how you greet your boyfriend?”

Fvck!! How can he forgot Miyuki’s face?! Of all people?!

I don't know what I'm doing.ಡ ͜ ʖ ಡ
Just my brain that works past 12 midnight.

I don't even know if this makes sense ( ´◡‿ゝ◡`) but I still wanna share!!

Actually the not remembering people's face... It's a long time problem of mine (≧▽≦) I just thought Eijun looked cute being confused in people's faces.
