Work Text:
Kagome’s eyes twitched when she saw the receipt. All she wanted was to borrow notes from her friends so she can photocopy them for their upcoming exams yet her so-called friends were exploiting her by making her pay for their meal.
A defeated sigh escaped her mouth. Kagome supposed that it was only fair since she often refused their offer to hang out in favor of going to the feudal era, a compensation, of sorts.
“Say, Kagome,” Eri started. She looked up from her math textbook to see her modern friends staring at her. Kagome instantly knew what they were going to ask in 3..2..1… “So did your two-timing boyfriend go to his ex-lover again?”
She wanted to smack herself and then her friends, one by one. Why did she ever tell them about Inuyasha and her’s love life anyway? She sighed. “I told you he and I broke up.”
This time it was Yuka who spoke. “Eh? Did he dump you?”
Frustrated, her fist clenched. “It was a mutual dumping. Can we please stop talking about him?”
“Kagome are you still hung up on that guy?” Ayumi asked, a genuine worry in her brown eyes.
Kagome waved her hand. “No, I accepted long ago that he and I weren’t meant to be more than best friends.”
The three looked at each other then at her. “Are you sure?” They asked at the same time.
Throwing her hands up in the air, she groaned. It was impossible to talk to them. “Yes and that’s final. By the way, Eri, you said you are meeting someone?” She directed the subject away from her.
Eri lit up. “Ah yes. You see I found this wallet when I was on my way to school this morning.” Opening her backpack, she pulled out a leather wallet. From the looks of it, it was expensive. “There was a number written in there, it turns out it was the owner. She agreed to meet up here.”
Not long after she spoke again.
“So… I opened the wallet earlier there’s a vintage picture of a bishoujo hottie inside,” her friend squealed as she pried the wallet open. Not interested, Kagome focused on her textbook, reading the formula again, hoping that a miracle would happen so she could understand her math lesson.
“Whoa! You’re right he is a hottie!” Yuka agreed, snatching the wallet to get a better look.
“Oh, he’s a cosplayer. What a cool cosplay! I wonder what character he is cosplaying?” wondered Ayumi as she now held the picture. “Is that the owner of the wallet? She is very pretty.”
The two girls nodded in agreement at her statement then sighed. Of course, the pretty man in the picture was most likely the wallet’s owner’s boyfriend.
“Is it just me or does the girl in the picture look like Kagome-chan,” noted Ayumi as she glanced up back and forth between the picture and Kagome.
“Eh?!? You’re right” Eri agreed followed by Yuka. This time, Kagome looked up, curious.
“Let me-“ before she could finish her sentence, she was cut off by the sound of someone clearing their throat. The four friends looked up to see a stranger with green eyes and dark hair dressed in corporate attire standing in front of them.
He was drop-dead gorgeous, glancing at her friends, she saw them with their jaws slacked. They really can’t help themselves around gorgeous men. Kagome couldn’t blame them though, he really was gorgeous but she had seen better. By “better” she meant good-looking demons in the feudal era.
“Hello Mr,” greeted Kagome politely as she looked up at the man. “Who might you be?”
Amusement danced inside those deep green eyes. His lips quirked up as he stared at her. “I think you know the answer to that question, Kagome.”
Blue eyes widened and her heart stopped beating. Baritone and smooth, she knew whom that voice belonged to all too well. Now that she got a better look at his face, there was no mistaking it— the slanted sharp eyes, the slope of his nose, his lips.
“Sesshomaru…” She whispered, soft and low, uncarried by the wind, away from prying ears.
After seconds of silence, he spoke once more. “I came here to retrieve my wife’s wallet. She has business to attend to at the moment so I am here in her absence.”
He’s married? Sesshomaru is married?!?! And here at WacDonalds!!
Shamelessly, her friends recovered from their stars trucked state and asked. “Are you the bishoujo in the picture? How do you know Kagome? And why does she look like you’re wife?”
He averted his gaze at her to look at her shameless friends. Did Kikyo turn human and married him? People who knew Kikyo would often claim that she and undead miko looked alike.
“Indeed, that is me. And your friend here does indeed look like my wife,” he answered as he accepted the wallet, putting it inside his pocket. He was having fun at her confused, wondering expense, Kagome could tell. The Sesshomaru she knew would have retrieved his item and carried on yet here he was tormenting her with so many questions she wanted to ask.
The four friends watched as he pulled out a neatly folded piece of paper from his pocket. It was a check. “Accept this small token as my gratitude for returning my wife’s wallet. She could be careless at times.”
As he uttered the last sentence, he sent Kagome a side glance. Yuka accepted it.
“I better get going.” He nodded at them then briefly eyed Kagome for a second before he sauntered outside the vicinity.
Frozen and confused, she watched absentmindedly as Sesshomaru took his leave. When she regained her senses she started packing her textbook inside her bag pack.
“See you tomorrow!” She waved as she bolted out, leaving her friends confused. Kagome ran as fast as she could, hoping to catch Sesshomaru.
Kami, where is he?
She hoped that she had taken action when he said goodbye now she didn’t know where to find him. An idea formed inside of her head. Closing her eyes, she stopped in her tracks. With a deep breath, she allowed her reiki to flare- expanding it around the area.
A minute had not passed yet pair of narrowed deep green eyes were looking down at her. He turned on his heel and looked at Kagome over his broad shoulder. His gaze told her to follow him.
She smiled sheepishly and did. They walked several buildings before he stopped at a small bookshop. The doorbell chimed as they entered. Kagome was surprised to find no one was at the store, the only company they have are the books.
“So,” she started, unsure what to say. Those deep green eyes morphed into a familiar shade of amber. His short dark hair turned into an amazing shade of flawless silver that reached his knees.
Kagome was mesmerized. She stared at him. He was mad, that’s for sure. “Miko, do you have a death wish?”
“Hey, at least my plan worked!” She snapped.
“Lucky on your part,” Sesshomaru scoffed as he crossed his arms. “You were flaring your reiki, basically attracting demons around the area. What if someone attacked you?”
Now she didn’t know how to respond to that. “And, really, following a random adult man on the streets without question?” He shook his head. “Careless as ever.”
An angry tick mark appeared on her forehead. “I only followed you because- because…”
He rose a brow, amused. “Because you know me?”
“Well, I don’t really know you except that you tried to attack us a couple of times in the past and that you’re Inuyasha’s older brother.”
“Half brother,” he corrected. “Now tell me what is it that you seek of this Sesshomaru.”
There he goes again with that third-person speech.
A blush formed on her cheeks. Now that he was in front of her, she didn’t know what to ask. She couldn’t ask him who his wife is or anything. It was too personal and like she said she doesn’t know him on a personal and vice versa.
She better think fast. “So, you’re blending in with humans?”
“Yes, it was the best course of action.” He gestured for them to sit in what’s look like a reading area. When they were both seated, he continued. “Humans started to get more and more greedy over the centuries, coveting our lands and hunting our kind. We had to step back down and blend in.”
Kagome nodded. A sad feeling crept inside her. Being forced to hide one’s identity was something she wouldn’t wish with someone. “Worry not Kagome, I assure you the majority of my kind are living our best lives.”
She hummed, still she felt bad. “So you have a wife,” she pointed, averting the conversation.
A smile appeared on his lips. “I do and I did not merely marry her, I mated her.”
“Congratulations Sesshomaru!” She said as a smile that reached up to her eyes formed. “I’m really happy.”
“I, too.” Something out of character happened causing her to stare at him with her head tilted to one side. The daiyokai grinned, his fangs peeking out of his mouth. “Do you want to see her?”
Kagome nodded. He leaned back on his chair and pulled out his wallet. Before he could pry it open, the bell chimed.
“Sess, did you pick up my wall—“ the woman stopped, her eyes wide as they can be as soon as her gaze landed on Kagome. In turn, she stood up in shock as she saw the woman.
Same face, same blue hair and blue eyes. It was her, but older.
Smiling and clearly amused with the event unfolding before his eyes, Sesshomaru replied, “ “Yes, mate. I am here with a special guest.” He turned to Kagome. “Kagome, meet my mate, Kagome.
It dawned on her that she, Higurashi Kagome, is married slash mated with the one and only Sesshomaru.
