At the end of the horizon

Summary:

Hiccup is trying to protect the map that has ever location he’s ever explored, including the hidden land. Someone tries to take this, fails.

Hiccup falls off Toothless as they enter the Hidden world.

Izuku is a normal schoolboy, until the sludge villain attacks, he’s told to have more realistic dreams, and he goes out to save Bakugou. This causes him to lose a leg, much like the Viking, Hiccup.

He’s getting random memories, dreams where he’s talking to a familiar person.

Hiccup decides Izuku is trustworthy, handing over the map. Izuku wakes up with the memories and goes to save Toothless.

Notes:

Honestly, I have no clue what I’m doing, leave name suggestions, any things to add.

Chapter Text

Black blended in with the evening sky. Night furies, one of the most dangerous dragons around. The specie going entirely extinct if not for a teenage Viking.

“Come on bud, we need to get out of here…” Hiccup jumped up, quickly latching his prosthetic into the correct place. They would catch up if they didn’t leave now.

Toothless gave a nod, allowing his companion to settle in. Hiccup tucked away his map and they were off. Toothless flapped his wings faster, dodging through mountains to trick off the people following.

They needed to get to the hidden world. Once they got there they would be safe.

An arrow whizzed past Hiccups face. “This isn’t good, go Toothless!”

The night fury let off a warning shot, only temporarily stunning the pursuers. They hadn’t given up the chase however.

Hiccup swerved left, going under a Scaulrdons neck. The hostile dragon blasted boiling water into the air, unluckily it had no effect and the chase continued. Another arrow skimmed Hiccups ear, tearing part of the thin cartilage.

Rain started pouring, dousing the dragon and rider in a thin layer of water.

Why were they being chased? Obviously because they have a super rare dragon, that’s always the reason.

“What do you need from us?! Surely we can work something out?!” Hizzup shouted behind him, ducking as another arrow flew his way.

The masked figure pulled out three more, arranging them on the bow at the same time.

“Oh thank Thor…Toothless! Sixth formation!” Hiccup clutched as Toothless spun in the air, raising higher to the clouds. Thunder occasionally rung in the sky but missed. Toothless gave a low grumble.

“I know bud, we need to get rid of this guy though. We should be close to the hidden world by now, just a little longer.” Hiccup rubbed the side of the saddle.

“I don’t believe you two will be going anywhere.” A voice spoke from beneath, quickly appearing in front.

“What do you want from us.” Hiccup held at his crossbow, ready to fire.

The person scoffed. “The map, hand it over.” Hiccup stared, Toothless glanced back and let out a low pitched noise.

“I can’t…”

“Why not?”

“This is my life possession, I’ve been making it for years, I’m not going to hand it over to someone like you.” Hiccup glared. “It has every place no man should ever enter. Those places are for the dragons.”

A strike of lightning split between the two opposing forces. Toothless closed his wings, allowing them to free fall through to air.

Hiccup placed his crossbow back into the holder and opened up his own set of wings, creating a makeshift wingsuit.

The lighting had barely fazed the other. Hiccup turned and fell back onto his dragon, letting a hand touch the ocean below.

Hiccup whispered. “There, the hidden land. We’re home.”

The land was still far away, far away enough that if Toothless used plasma camouflage, they could make it in safe.

“You know what to do, we have to get out of here…”

Hiccup failed to dodge as an arrow shot right at his back. The scale armour protected him, luckily. This wasn’t the same for Toothless…

Another arrow had been shot, one of them lodged into a joint on Tootheless’ back leg. He growled, ducking his head under his body and shooting a quick plasma blast.

“It’s okay, I’ll patch you right up once we get back.” Hiccup rubbed just bellow his ear. “You ready, bud?”

Toothless didn’t respond, instead, gathering the energy to camouflage.

The dragon of the other rider swung its tail, sending a tiny prick to Hiccups arm.

Lightning followed up Toothless’ tail, all the way to his back. The map wanter had stopped following, seemingly stunned by the action.

Toothless let out a shot and disappeared into the night sky.

“We made it bud. They’re not following us anymore.” Hiccup gave extra scratches as the view of the hidden world came closer.

Hiccup felt so tired. He could fall asleep for years once they get back. His eyelids were drooping.

“Let’s…hurry…” His words were slurring, caused Toothless to give a concerned look.

“M’fine….” Hiccup slowly lost grip of the saddle. Home was right below them now…

Suddenly, the air was rushing past his cheeks, a white light passing over his face as a familiar sound of Toothless screeching reached his ears.

“Bye mum! I love you!” Izuku grabbed some toast and rushed out the house. He couldn’t afford to be late if he wanted to go to UA!

Despite that being his dream for so many years, life didn’t want that, giving him the quirkless gene. That evidently ruined everything.

Bullying, torment, neglect? Overbearing maybe? He loved his mum, but she thought of him as a porcelain Chinese doll, fragile and too easy to break.

The scars running across his body said otherwise.

Izuku sighed as he swallowed the last piece of his breakfast. Today, he would keep his head down and try to keep the mumbling at a minimum. Kacchan would get pissed off at just the sight of green curls.

As soon as Izuku entered the school property, people sneered, pointed, someone even threw a piece of gum at him; just barely missing his hair.

Welcoming into the classroom with some lovely red flowers always made the day better, however, these flowers held a significant meaning. That’s okay though, Izuku would look after them to make sure they wouldn’t wilt, and his mum loved any vase he brought back.

“Okay, silence please.” Their teacher walked in, folder in hand. “Fill out this form, either now or once you get home.” The student president quickly handed them out.

Izuku glanced down at it. They were about the schools you were choosing next year. Obviously Izuku wrote UA, who wouldn’t?

As the end of the day rolled around, their teacher came back into class after finalising all submitted forms.

“I know that all of you want to enter the hero schools, so here’s some information pamphlets!”

Everyone cheered, showing off their quirks. Izuku raised his hand just so much that you could see it but not too noticeable.

“Hey, teach, don’t lump me in with this bunch of losers. I’m the real deal.” Bakugou lifted his head. “These lot will be lucky to end up as a sidekick for some busted D-lister.” Bakugou huffed out a laugh as his classmates claimed he wasn’t any better than them.

His teacher had interrupted, mentioning Bakugous high test scores and that he could actually have a chance.

Izuku sighed and sunk back down into his desk, covering his head with his arms.

“Oh yeah…” Izuku clenched his fists as the teachers started back up. “Midoriya, didn’t you apply for UA too?”

Instantly, the class burst into fits of laughter. They jeered, talking down on the fact he didn’t have a quirk. The only comeback Izuku had, was that the school removed the rule that quirkless people couldn’t be accepted.

Bakugou interrupted him, slamming a fist on his desk. “Listen up Deku, you think they’d let someone like you in when I’m already there?!”

Bakugou continued on until the bell went. Everyone funnelled out of the room, eager to get home.

Izuku rushed to his bag, avoiding Bakugou and begun packing his stuff. Unfortunately, Bakugou grabbed his notebook and swung it a few inches infront.

“You think we’re done here, Deku?”

Bakugous lackies started laughing once they read the name of the book. It was soon to be exploded though, then thrown out the window. Izuku hadn’t even had the reaction time to try and save it.

Bakugou latched onto Izukus shoulder, burning through the uniform. “Listen, if you want a quirk so badly, pray you’ll have one in your next life and take a swan dive off the roof of the building.”

Izuku stood still, watching as Bakugou stomped away.

After probably 10 minutes, Izuku finally grabbed his bright yellow bag and bolted, right to the back of the school where the koi fish snacked on his book.

Grabbing the wet blob of pages, Izuku shook it off. It didn’t make much of a difference but it felt slightly lighter.

Izuku decided to take the long route home. He didn’t want to see his mum frantically searching for any injuries once he arrived back.

As he passed under the second bridge, the sewage drain started seeping a green sludge. Izuku froze in fear.

“You’ll make a perfect skin suit for me to hide in kid” Izuku was pulled forward as the sludge entered his mouth. The smell felt like death itself, flowing freely through his windpipes and oesophagus.

“It’ll only hurt for a minute, you’ll feel better soon…” Izuku clawed at the sickly green goop. It had no affect as there wasn’t anything physical to grasp.

Izuku could see black spots forming in the corner of his vision, his body growing slack. He was dying…

The villain suddenly tensed. Was someone speaking?

“Texas…SMASH!”

The air was filling into Izukus lungs again. He could feel the hard floor against his back. Someone was slapping him.

“Hey, wake up. Oh! Thought we lost you there!” All Might was towering over him. Izuku shuffled back as the man talked about the sewers.

Izuku finally rendered what was actually happening and rushed to grab his notebook for an autograph, only to find it written across two pages.

He immediately begun bowing, thanking the hero for everything.

All Might crouched down. “I best be off, I need to take this villain back to the police.”

The man took off, high up into the air, unaware of the teenager clinging to his leg.

“Hey! I love my fans but this is too much! Get off!”

Izuku tightened his grip. “If I let go, I’ll die!”

All Might seemed to have reasoned with that and nodded. He landed on a building not too far away. Izuku felt his life draining from that quick ride, though it also felt like the only time he was properly alive…

“Bang on the door and somebody will eventually let you in.” All Might neared the edge.

“Wait! I have to know…is it possible to become a hero, if I don’t have a quirk.” He held his fists tight to his legs. “Could I hope to become someone like you!“

All Might paused. Steam flowed out of his shoulders and he shrunk, into a skeleton with sunken cheeks and skinny arms.

Izuku screamed, shocked at the new appearance.

“Yeah, yeah, kid. It’s me All Might… Think of the guys at the gym that puff themselfs up. I’m exactly like that.” All might took a deep breath. “With your previous question, it’s a no. Hero’s risk their lives everyday and someone without a quirk going into heroics is a death wish. Try a doctor or a police officer. Just be realistic” All Might stood up.

He gave a simple goodbye and left.

Izuku sank down to the floor, taking in what the hero had just said. He shouldn’t be a hero…

An explosion in the far distance made Izukus head snap up. He begun running towards it but re-thinking on the words All Might had said, he slowed down his pace to get there.

He kept his head ducked the entire journey. Upon finally arriving, Izuku wished he had gotten there earlier.

Bakugou was stuck in the middle of the sludge villain that had attacked Izuku just moments earlier. Bakugou was struggling against it.

Izuku watched in disbelief as all the hero’s sat and did absolutely nothing. Why weren’t they doing anything?!

That was when Bakugous eyes met with his. They were pleading, begging for someone to help; so Izuku ran out. His feet moved on his own.

With the evaluation from earlier, Izuku knew to aim for anything physical. He slipped under the police tape and through the fire, slinging his bag off and aiming for the villains eyes. Once the hit was taken, Bakugou freed his upper torso, giving Izuku enough leverage to pull him out.

“Damn Deku! What do you think you’re doing?!”

“I’m saving you! Now hold still!” Izuku pulled as hard as he could, eventually freeing his childhood friend. Izuku smiled as Bakugou fell to the concrete, only for it to be ripped away due to him being pulled in as a replacement.

Something inside the sludge caught on Izukus leg, making his head go woozy and blood to go everywhere. The hero’s took action now that the fire had stopped, but by then, Izuku had lost too much blood.

Strands of yellow hair was the last thing he saw before his eyes closed and white engulfed his vision.
