Joonas was sitting at the bar, slowly stirring his cocktail with the straw. His original plan had been to get drunk, preferably as quickly as possible. After his first two drinks, he was mad at himself for drowning in his stupid self-pity so he had decided to stop and just enjoy a cocktail before going home.
Yeah, right… 'Home'.
There was little left of what he had called home until less than two weeks ago. His long-term partner had left him, telling him they had found someone better and didn't want to see him anymore.
Joonas felt the urge to cry.
Was he not enough?
Was it because he danced at that bar every weekend because he loved doing it, loved to turn people's heads around. His partner had told him it was okay, there was nothing sexual involved and he always came back home to them after the shift.
Joonas shook his head. What did it matter anyway? His ex was probably enjoying their time with someone else now. Someone better.
Whatever that meant.
“You're pretty.”
Joonas looked up, examining the guy who sat down next to him at the bar, already holding a more than half-empty glass.
“You're drunk. It seems,” Joonas replied, looking back at his cocktail.
The stranger giggled softly. “I'm not, just a little tipsy. And I can tell if a person's pretty, sober or not.”
Joonas looked up again, scanning the stranger's face for a second. He was attractive. Long brownish hair, hoop earrings, attentive green eyes.
“What do you want? I'm not in the mood for flirting.”
“Oh, we don't have to flirt. We can just talk if you want to? Though it seems we're both here for similar reasons and both failed at executing our original plan…” The stranger extended a hand. “Hey, I'm Niko.”
Joonas hesitated for a second before he placed his hand in the one the stranger, Niko, offered. Both of them holding the handshake a bit too long.
“Joonas. Nice to meet you.”
