“Joel, stop fidgeting. I can’t tie your tie like this,” Aleksi chided, placing his hands on Joel’s shoulders. Joel sighed, trying to calm down enough to stand somewhat still.
“It’ll be alright. You can do this and Niko will wait for you at the altar,” Aleksi said, soothingly.
“Oh, and tonight you’ll go to bed as Mr. and Mr. Moilanen to enjoy your wedding night,” he added with a small wink.
Joel blushed but smiled, enjoying that thought a lot. He never expected to reach this point, hadn’t even dared to imagine this when he met Niko for the first time all these years ago.
“Thank you, Allu. I really mean it.” Aleksi simply smiled at that and finished tying the tie.
“Thought we’d be the ones standing here one day,” Joonas joked while helping Niko with his hair.
“Oh, fuck off,” Niko laughed, “You know we wouldn’t have worked out. Never thought I could be this happy with someone. It just feels so…so right with him.”
Joonas smiled, combing through the last hair strand. “You both look super happy when you’re around each other. And I’m…delighted to see two of my best friends this happy.”Joonas grinned, placing a quick peck on Niko’s cheek.
“You look good. Joel will absolutely freak out seeing you like this.”
“Oh god, I hope not!” Niko laughed. “But thank you”
Niko looked up when he heard the door opening accompanied by soft music. He couldn’t hold back a bright smile when he saw Joel in his wedding outfit for the first time.
Joel’s best friend was the one to walk him down the aisle. It had been Joel’s decision to ask her instead of one of his parents who were now sitting in the first row, proudly looking at their son, his mother shedding a tear or two. Joel, however, only had eyes for his husband-to-be, a bright, honest smile lit up his face and eyes when he saw Niko smiling at him.
Niko did tear up a little when Joel’s hand was placed into his, both of them immediately intertwining their fingers with each other. Joel looked happier than ever and it would surely become one of Niko’s fondest memories.
The rest of the band looked fondly at their two friends from where they were standing as the groomsmen. Olli definitely failed at his plan not to (almost) cry, especially when the ceremony got to the point where Joel and Niko were supposed to exchange their wedding vows and rings.
Niko was the first one to say the vow, slipping the ring on Joel’s finger only a minute later. Joel repeated the procedure, saying his own vow before slipping the ring on Niko’s finger.
Joonas, who had brought the rings, stepped back into the row of their friends again while the two grooms exchanged their vows.
Joel felt a weight falling from him the moment he heard the sentence “You may now kiss the groom”, a smile spreading over his face when his eyes met Niko’s.
Niko stepped closer, hands in Joel’s neck to pull him down.
“Please never stop smiling like this…” Niko whispered in a way only Joel could hear him before connecting their lips in a soft, emotional kiss.
