Lance realized tears were falling from his eyes when some landed on the letter itself, he quickly wiped them, in fear of smudging the precious writing. He needs to see Keith, never in his life has someone been this dear to him, he has never felt this cherished before, and now it feels like he’s receiving too much affection, even more than what he deserves, but he plans on returning that affection ten times more.
He stands up abruptly, hands shaking from the extent of emotions he’s going through, but he manages to cross the hallway and stand in front of Keith’s room. Thinking of how he should approach him now, how he will be able to convey his feelings. Feelings that are so overwhelming he thinks he’ll combust anytime. He takes a deep breath, exhales softly, and gathers enough courage to knock.
The door opens as soon as he knocks. And there he is. Keith. With a bewildered look on his face. As if he was waiting just behind the door and pacing back and forth in a panic (he was).
They both just stand there for a moment, staring at each other, thinking about what to say, but when no words come out, Lance thinks
Fuck it
And pulls Keith into a kiss. Keith gasps, surprised by the sudden proximity, but soon reciprocates in earnest. He feels like his knees will give out any second, so he grabs a desperate fistful of Lance’s shirt with one hand and wraps the other around his neck. Lance holds him tighter by his waist, and suddenly Keith feels even more breathless. The best thing about this was that Lance was so gentle with him, as if Keith will vanish if he gets even a little bit rougher, but still managing to put his heart on fire… it’s just too much, it’s exhilarating, in a really good way. Maybe it’s equally overwhelming for Lance too, because he finally pulls back. It takes Keith a few more seconds to open his eyes, still relishing in the kiss, and the sight of Keith slowly opening his eyes, like, does something to Lance’s heart. He leans forward, even such a small distance between them unbearable to him, and rests his forehead on Keith’s. He lowers his gaze and whispers, “I love you too Keith, so much, you have no idea “
Keith simply grabs him by his shirt again and pulls him into another passionate kiss. He asks when they pull apart, “you mean it?”, and he looks so endearingly hopeful… that Lance assures him instantly with a small peck,” yes, I haven’t meant anything more in my life, Keith, I love you, I love you, I love you!” he says peppering Keith’s face with feather-light kisses, which makes him giggle and smile brightly. And Lance decides right there, that he’s gonna spend the rest of his life making sure that Keith smiles like that as much as possible.
“I love you too” Keith whispers
Soon, kissing seems to be a difficult task because they can’t stop smiling. Lance kisses his forehead one last time before speaking up
“ok, so…first of all, I absolutely loved your letter, it-it means a lot to me Keith, and yeah! Expect a letter of your own very soon! Don’t think you can beat me in romance! A-and…ughhh, stop smiling at me like that!!” he says as he squishes Keith’s cheeks, Keith just smiles wider,” you’re smiling too though!”
“ughh ok fine, you have a nice smile anyway… where was I? oh yes, the letter! I’ll write one too! A-and I want us to be on the same page, so I want to properly ask, (clears throat) will you be my boyfriend?”
Keith just pulls him closer in response and whispers, “yes” before nuzzling in his chest. Lance holds him tighter.

When they finally tell the team, they’re just met with groans of “ugghhh finally!!” “about time man!”.
But everyone is super supportive and they couldn’t be happier.
The end (I might write a fluffy epilogue someday)
