Chapter Text
Selen leveled her pistol at the woman in front of her, finger on the trigger as the two locked eyes in a standoff, neither one giving an inch. She wasn't sure her pistol would even be able to scratch those indigo scales, but hey - she was nothing if not a betting woman.
"Easy now, pretty lady~ I'll just be taking that-" Selen gestures the sword in her other hand at the gilded relic, half submerged in the shallow water of the seaside cave. "-and be getting out of your hair. Fins, scales? I'm not exactly learned about-"
"Leave, pirate. Before I make you." The pistol nearly slips from Selen's fingers because holy SHIT this lady had the sweetest, most melodic sounding voice she had ever heard, not to mention the way her scales clung to her skin like sea-soaked clothing and how her horns curved back over mint-colored hair...okay, maybe her crew was right about her monster kink, but damn it, she was right.
A fanged smirk tugged at the corner of Selen's mouth and her tail drops low above the water that came just above her boots. "That a promise?"
One, two seconds pass and a gunshot rang out in the cave and Selen sprinted around the mermaid for her prize - except, she wasn't, because a webbed hand reached out like lightning and seized her by the neck, putting her on her back so hard that both her weapons fall into the water. Shit, her coat was probably ruined now too.
The mermaid leans in close, way too close for Selen to take her seriously as a threat despite literally being held by the throat. Sharp, killer claws flexed against her exposed neck and those deep abyssal eyes glared down at her. Evidently, that little stunt didn't earn her much favor.
"Any last words?"
"...can I kiss you?"
The stars twinkled above in the night sky, shining down on Finana's little hiding spot in the crows nest. How long had it been since she last saw the stars? How many millennia passed in that dark little cave? She hadn't really had a chance to think about it. That Captain Tatsuki kept her on her toes, every day bringing some sort of trouble. As lucky as she liked to make herself seemed to be, Selen somehow drew misfortune to herself like sharks to blood.
"Thinking about something Fina?" And there she is. Selen swung herself into the crows nest, cramped with two people sitting shoulder to shoulder. The captain seems so much taller than when they first met. Lots of things were different about Finana now. She was all soft skin and no scales, like all her draconic blood was gone now. She had nothing to guard now, no cave to keep her trapped. Her world had opened back up, with Selen at the helm of it.
"Fina?" She turned to the captain - her captain and the two locked eyes. Finana didn't have the chance to notice the first time this happened, given that she was more concerned with taking care of the first and only person to find her in ages. But now, she could see that behind the blue and pink irises of Selen's eyes, little stars glimmered. She chuckled a little at the realization. The first stars she saw since her imprisonment weren't the ones in the sky after all. They were the ones that shone at the monster in the cave and dared to let her free.
"...do you still want that kiss, Selen?"
