    Summary

Two summers ago when they drank together on the back porch of Dick’s house they’d built together, Dick had passed Jason the bottle of whiskey, wiped his mouth, and said without looking at Jason that he didn’t believe in a God that had left his dad to die but prayed to Him anyways for his mom to wake up from her coma because it was the only thing he could do as the one survivor of their family.

Jason looks at Dick now. Dick, who’s staring up at the ceiling light as it could burn away the wetness in his eyes.

“I’m sorry,” Jason says. “I’m sorry, Dick. I didn’t mean to scare you like that. You know you’re stuck with me. I’m not going anywhere anytime soon, I promise. I promise, alright? Don't cry. Not for me."
