Chapter Text
"Can i get an iced coffee please" a yawn escaping my lips, "of course, with the usual pump of vanilla?" the guy taking my order jotted my name onto the cup as i nodded my head at him.
6:30am, my eyes felt heavy, the cold weather making me wish that my body was still curled up in my bed, "order for y/n" he slid the cup over the counter as i gripped it, as usual finding myself walking towards my comfort spot.
This coffee shop has grown to become my favorite, it was dimly lit with dark brown wooden tables. They were no taller than my shin, with colorful cushioned sofas instead of uncomfortable wooden chairs. An array of bookshelves were scattered along the walls with some abstract paintings jotted alongside them.
A constant sound of the coffee machines filled my ears, it was quiet. People didn't come here to catch up or hang out with friends, they come here to have a moment to themselves. Most people i see here are regulars, almost like clockwork the same people arrive at the same time on their selected week days. They would always order the same drink, not that they needed to as the baristas here will memorize your name and order if you come often enough.
I find that sweet, its a privately owned shop, ran by an older lady and her three children. Personally seeing them everyday is my favorite thing, though i haven't actually met one of her sons properly. What i do know however is that they're all adopted, Eren is her eldest son, hes the one that's usually taking orders, guess you could say hes the one with picture perfect memory, hes not too talkative but hes a sweetheart either way. Her other son is Jean, hes usually the one making the drinks, can always count on him to be quick and efficient. He too is a dear, well spoken and down to earth, he sits with me on his break sometimes whilst we do our own things.
However i haven't 'met' her other son as such, i found myself asking Jean about it a few days ago he said that even though he was the youngest of the brothers he was the most intellectual of them, a smarty pants if i used his wording. Their mother depends on him when it comes to the money and payments side of the store meaning I've never gotten to speak to him. Not that it matters as such, i'm beyond certain that id stutter and choke on my words if i even attempted a conversation with him.
Whilst i know his brothers, i'm yet to learn his name, nobody ever talks to him so asking around would also be pointless. My fingers began tingling from the chill of my drink as my mind finally settled back into reality, taking in my surroundings. The gentle hint of vanilla hitting my tongue. Perfect. My eyes fell towards the back corner of the shop, the usual routine. He was sat there reading a book, with a cappuccino placed on his right hand side with a blueberry muffin. He has the same thing everyday, its cute how he never changes. Like its his routine. My eyes fell onto the cover of his book, 'The perks of being a wallflower' a small giggle left my lips as i realized we were currently reading the same book. Giving my hand a rest from the cold i placed the drink upon the table as i slipped my hand into my bag, reaching for the book.
My eyes falling back onto him as i held the book up to my face, he was gorgeous. Unlike his two brothers who were quite tall and dark haired. He had light blonde hair which hung just above his eyes, which were one of the brightest blues i have ever seen, they're the main reason my favorite color is now blue. He wasn't muscular in any sense, he was petite with a sense of manliness to him. His face was chiseled and his skin had a natural glow to it. His fashion sense was smart casual id say, a loose white button up, with his sleeves rolled up and his top buttons left loose. He wore a silver chain around his neck which hung low enough to cover his exposed chest. Black loose trousers that were belted with a matching black belt. His shirt was never fulled tucked in, his left side was always hanging out without fail. He wore chunky black boots allowing his baggy trousers to sit perfectly on the top of them. A loose silver chained bracelet hung from his petite wrist, matching silver rings were placed on his fingers.
He looked so elegant, every movement he makes looks delicate, as if he doesn't want to hurt anything he comes into contact with. Too often i find myself staring at him, he was mesmerizing a kind of beautiful you don't come across everyday. My finger began stinging pulling me out of my daydream, a gentle trickle of blood appeared from the small paper cut i had accidentally given myself, "Bitch" i whispered under my breath, shoving my book into my bag and grabbing my coffee as i go to walk out the door, "See you tomorrow y/n" Eren called out at me, my eyes looking back at them, Jean waving me off too, "See you guys tomorrow, don't work too hard" waving back as the door opened before me. The cold weather stinging my cheeks as the wind blew my hair back. Trying my best i shook off the cold as i shoved my finger into my mouth in an attempt to ease the sting of the silly little cut on my fingertip.
7:30am. A sigh escaping my lips before i shove the door open, ready to start my shift. It was a measly office job, spending 8 hours of my day receiving emails and answering phone calls. Though in a way its not that bad, i work with my best friends so there's never a boring day, lately works been a little quiet so we spend most of the day gossiping, not that i ever have anything to add to the conversation.
"Y/N" a huge weight pulling down on my body, "Sasha please stop doing that" her laugh filled my ears as she dropped her body off of mine, the weight on my shoulders easing as she did. "Why're you so cheerful today?" my eyebrow raised at her, a cheeky grin plastered on her face, "follow me" she pulled me into our office and pushed me down into a chair, Mikasa and Connie waving at me as my ass hit the seat.
"Seriously what is happening" confusion filling my mind, as my eyes caught a glimpse of my CEO Erwin and the chief of our department Levi walking in holding a cake. My eyes widened as i realized that i had managed to forget my own birthday, Sasha began singing happy birthday while others followed along, even Levi sang along. Sasha must have done some witchcraft to make that happen. Erwin placed the cake onto my desk, "Make a wish" he grinned as i blew out the candles, "What'd you wish for" Connie puckered his lips at me trying to get me to tell, Sasha's hand colliding with his head as he did so, "She can't tell you dimwit, it wont come true else" Connie's hand raised to rub the sore spot on his head as Sasha pulled a present out from her bag, "For you" placing it in my hands before she plopped herself down on Connie's lap.
I'd only started working here 11 months ago, It was a heartwarming surprise to have someone, no numerous people care about my birthday. Before this i cant say I've ever celebrated, in a way i don't think my birth is one worth celebrating. However these guys think it is, so i suppose its not all bad. I pulled at the ribbon before pulling the wrapping paper off of the box. my eyes glancing at Sasha before i opened the box before me.
It was a thin silver chained necklace with a small charm in the shape of a book on it, the welling of tears filled my eyes as i looked back at her, "This is so beautiful, Thank you" her hand pulled the necklace out of the box as Connie held my hair up, allowing her to clasp the necklace for me. The chill from the charm hitting my chest filled my heart with happiness. "It was a gift from us all, Happy birthday Y/n" her arms wrapped around my back as her head rested on my shoulder, "Thank you everyone"My eyes fell back onto the cake, it was a plain sponge cake with a small amount of frosting between the layers, with a thin layer of marzipan laid over the top, "We figured you didn't like icing and chocolate cakes" my eyes glancing over to Mikasa as her head began resting on her hand, "How did you know that" a gentle laugh left her lips, "every time we bring in cupcakes you never go for the chocolate, and you always scrape off the icing and give it to Sasha" she shrugged as Sasha agreed, "We figured you just weren't a fan of icing, were we wrong?" Connie's face became uneasy, my head shaking. "No you guys were right, i didn't realize any of you had noticed"
The end of my shift arrived quickly, we didn't get much work done but i suppose that's okay, on the walk home i found myself outside the coffee shop again, looking in and seeing him sat in his same spot, surrounded by piles of paperwork whilst he writes away. a smile formed on my face as i continued my walk home.
