Hello! Thank you so much for reading, I hope this prologue will give you all the info you need on the story to come. First thing first, at this point I have no intent of ever finishing this story. It’s too long, and I have a real, offline life to live. That being said, I’ve been sitting on the first few chapters for years and I think about them often. After reading and re-reading them, I’ve decided to post what I’ve written, and perhaps write a little more, for fellow MVA fans like me who are starved for content; even if that content is destined to be incomplete.
On the premise: This story was originally intended as a sequel-esque thing. It follows the monsters reuniting after their lives eventually drifted apart. Do I think realistically they would drift away from each other? Probably not. Do I love the “getting the band back together” trope? Absolutely.
LIGHT SPOILERS: This is tagged for major character death, referring to Insectosaurus. I had always intended for her to come back at the end, right in the nick of time to keep the gag running from the first movie. So, if that helps ease you, please keep that in mind! You can’t keep a good bug down.
On the setting: The first few chapters take place on Monster Beach, a place that was mentioned briefly in some of the off-shoot material (books, video games, etc.). I’ve fleshed it out as a small, once private island that was owned by a large resort, until said resort donated a large, mostly undeveloped portion of the island to the government for use by the monsters, as thanks for saving the world (and for a large tax break). The monsters used to fly down there for some R&R whenever they had the chance, sometimes bringing Susan’s family and some of the officers they were closest with as well. A stilted shack was built on the beach for Link, Bob, and Doc; a clearing with a waterfall was designated for Insecto/Butterflyosaurus; and an old aircraft hangar was repurposed as a studio suite for Ginormica. This part of the island was blocked off so tourists couldn’t wander in, however, every once in a while a brave few would jump the fences. Link often took great pleasure in scaring them off. I always thought this was a super fun setting and loved exploring it.
