Work Text:

It happened at the grocery store, of all places.  Yoongi wasn’t a helicopter parent, per say, but he was extremely cautious when he took the kids into town.  He enjoyed their quiet life in the forest and his anxiety always went into overdrive the moment they passed the tree line.

So when Yoongi looked away from his shopping cart for a few moments to grab some banana milk, he was expecting to see his small army of children still with their hands grasping the cart when he looked back.  This is not, however, what he found.

Instead, all he saw was Sakura’s bright brown eyes staring at him.

“Where did they go?”  Yoongi asked his daughter gently, hoping his face wasn’t already turning red.

“Ji Hoon wanted candy.”

Yoongi sighs, kissing Sakura on the top of her head.  “Let’s go find your siblings.”

They weren’t in the candy aisle.  Or the soda aisle.  Or the cracker aisle.  By the end of the fifth aisle, Yoongi was in full panic mode.  They’re usually so loud and yet all he can hear is a weird ringing noise.  His whole world is falling around him when suddenly, he hears his name over the speaker.

“Min Yoongi, your family is waiting for you at the customer service counter.”

He and Sakura make their way to the front of the store quickly.  They turn a corner and suddenly, Yoongi’s world is okay again.  There are the rest of his children, smiling and laughing.  Everything looks normal.  Safe.  Yeonjun has Hye-Jin on his back and she’s laughing.  Sungyeon and Ji Hoon are looking at a coloring book that looks to have fake Marvel characters on the pages.

Then he notices the man.

“You must be Min Yoongi,” the gorgeous man smiles.

“Unfortunately, I am.”

And that’s where it started.

Six months later, Seokjin is a fixture in the family.  Yoongi always said he’d take it slow once he found himself interested in someone after his wife passed away, but there was nothing slow about Seokjin.  Seokjin was fun and comfortable and the beach on a warm day.  He was everything Yoongi had never known he needed, and now he was firmly planted into the family.

“I’ve dreamt of this,” Seokjin chuckles as he watches Yoongi shut the door to Sakura and Hye-Jin’s room.

“Finding a man with five children who ropes you into cooking dinner for them three times a week?”  Yoongi replies with a smile, plopping himself firmly onto Seokjin’s lap.

“It was a very specific dream I had.”  They laugh together and after a moment, Seokjin gently presses a kiss on Yoongi’s cheek.  “I love you.”

“I love you more.”
