Fighting an animus was not a new experience, Adam has fought a few before - it was actually amazingly scary how little are around the city but they're still as dangerous , copying his and his friends looks to try and make its way into the human society, uselessly of course , as anyone with half a brain would notice that something was off about the thing . It's red eyes flashing roughly in the darkness as it threw Adam on the ground with great force . He should've accepted Carole's request and take her with him . But he was stubborn and that alongside his tiredness did not help him .
But now he had to deal with the consequences . Adam wasn't sure how much time had passed since he started fighting the entity , at first he was doing alright, reflecting it's attacks and being the one flinging it into the air , big hot flames burning up it's skin . He was tired though , he could barely clech his fist right now . The great sword-copy nestled right against his chest not quite ripping his clothes off or even stabbing him right through.
Could it be messing with him? It would be so weird as this thing shouldn't be able to make such decisions , it should just have the blood lust of killing the real person and taking on his place as a real human . Adam's vision started to blur out as blood started trickling down his chin . Must be because of the direct hit on the ground . He's probably broken a few ribs by now , this will take a while to heal . The moon ring started flickering as well , the red mixing in with the animus' eyes .
Adam couldn't make out anything , he hasn't passed out he was sure of that , he could still hear the wind crackling and his own heavy breaths , he could still feel the tip of the great sword at his chest , unmoving . Something must've catched the animus' attention , no real predator would leave out their prey like this . If only he could move his legs and try to kick at its legs or grab the sword to make sure that he wasn't right underneath death's door . He couldn't though . Adam's head was spinning as everything continued to hurt .
There's a loud noise coming from the side and suddenly the heavy weight got lifted but there was still a problem because he couldn't fuck move or say anything. So Adam just waited until he started hearing a bunch footsteps coming his way . Incomprehensible words coming from different people all at once , his squad found him quicker than he thought they would . This was good news at least , if they didn't come , Adam could've expected the animus to kill him sooner or later as it's main achievement is to be the sole existing specimen .
The animus got killed , it was shot by either Lyle or Squad Leader Zaychik as nobody seemed to be worried about the copying entity anymore . Adam tries to focus on the words being spoken but his ears are starting to feel plugged, and before he knows it he slips out of consciousness and everything turns to black .

Adam isn't sure what just happened but he's sure he's not outside anymore . The cold pavement turned into a soft cushion , he's laid down on what he assumes is the couch inside the base . This was the first time he caused his own demise , his own stupidity lead him to pass out in the middle of the battlefield. He was starting to feel a little better at once . His vision recovered firstly , staring longingly at the ceiling with his mouth agape. He tried to say something but nothing came out once again , his throat felt all scratchy .
" Do you want water senpai?" Timido's voice rang in his ears , his head turned to the side , still unable to speak
" ... "
Timido stared at Adam, letting out a little awkward giggle as she realised that he couldn't speak . T helped him sit up and bought the flask up to his mouth.
" I'm sorry that we couldn't get there quicker senpai , we thought you just wanted some time alone. " She admitted in a soft voice .
Adam shook his head , it was all alright in the end , they got to him In time and he was safe now .
" We wouldn't have found you if Lyle didn't suggest that he'd check around the city . I think he was worried you'd do something stupid, " the pink haired girl continued , sitting down next to Adam ", I'm glad he did so , you really worried us all!" She continued , letting her polite words nowhere to be seen .
" Ohh you're awake senpai! " A louder voice came from behind the shelves filled with boxes and other things , it was a surprise for Carole to not be at the makeshift bar , she was probably put by the squad leaders go guard the entrances . As safe as they think they would be, a chariot could easily ram its head against the metal doors and ambush them , it was a good thing that they weren't that smart .
" Lyle , Squad Leader Raiden and Zaychik are out to look for medicine , they thought you wouldn't wake up until later . " Carole speaks in her usual manner , she must've been worried too but decided to play it off for now to not worry the others . She opened the door to take a peek outside,checking for her teammates .
" ... "
" Not chatty today are we," Carole puffed ", you'll see , I'm going to make you a good drink when you get better that will get you talking " she said , more like threatened .
Timido and Carole began chatting , they were talking about another animus that they've encountered before today . They have a lot of notes on this enemy but still not much is known , if only they had a brain and you could interrogate them .
The missing teammates come back , they all seem to have dissapointed looks on their faces and Adam could guess it's because they hadn't found any kind of good medicine as most of if was probably destroyed or over the due date . They were lucky enough to find the essentials .
" Shinyuu! " Lyle's voice echoed throughout the whole base , damn he was so loud " I'm glad to see you're alive , I don't know what I could've done without you " he continued with a teasing tone closing in .
" Ah..." Again , nothing but a shuddered breath came out . Timido tried offering him some more water but he wasn't thirsty and he didn't think that it would help him with his problem .
Lyle pulled him in a quick hug , you know , just to be sure that he was actually awake and breathing , hardly or not .
" Kid , you really did it to yourself" Bronya commented with a deep sigh . It was such a mess having to deal with four teenagers , they were good most of the time but sometimes they crossed to line.
" The animus got killed , we collected some samples and they've been sent to Dr Tesla and the Overseer , next time you want to do some experimentations , don't go alone , we don't know if you're gonna end up dead meat " the squad leader crossed her arms and took a seat on the empty chair .
" You're taking a few days off . I do not want you to even try complaining . "
