Work Text:

Simon was exhausted. It isn’t everyday that he gets called in the middle of the night by the Crown Prince of Sweden when he is drunk and high, wandering around the football field in Bjarstad. Never in a million years would he have expected a call from the prince after he was told to delete their texts; which he did because even though Wilhelm hurt him (again), Simon still respects the boy.

In all honesty, it had been a little traumatizing riding his bike to the football field as fast as he could to save the fucking prince, the boy he liked. Seeing the boy laying on the ground and not knowing if he was okay had made Simon’s insides do some crazy things. His heart was racing and his stomach was roiling with nausea. It wasn’t long before those feelings were replaced with sorrow for the boy. Wilhelm being surprised that Simon had come to save his ass and asking if Simon was mad. (Which he was, but also wasn’t, it’s complicated okay?) The flashbacks of Micke didn’t help the situation at all, they just fueled his anger. Simon wondered if Wilhelm would have called him if he had known about Simon’s past.

Wilhelm clung to Simon the whole way back to Hillerska. It was a long walk. Yet another reason why Simon was so tired. Wrangling a drunken person is one thing, wrangling a drunken person who is also high on god knows what is a whole other adventure. Especially when said person keeps telling Simon that he’s beautiful and asking if he’s mad and apologizing. So many apologies!

It had been a miracle they had been able to sneak back into Wilhelm’s room undetected, which he was grateful for. Simon had no idea how he would have explained any of this. Even after Simon had gotten Wilhelm into bed, he didn’t feel like he could leave the boy. What if something bad happened to him? He didn’t feel like it was enough to roll Wilhelm on his side and leave like he had so many times with Micke. So, he stayed. Just in case. Because, well, because he cared about Wilhelm and Simon was a caregiver, it ran deep in his veins, blended into his soul.

Then, the text from his sister came, waking him from an uneasy sleep in an uncomfortable position. Simon hadn’t meant to wake up Wilhelm, though it seemed like the boy hadn’t even really been sleeping with how easily he woke. And the prince, no.. Wille looked so lost and lonely when he had asked Simon to stay and how could Simon say no to that? Didn’t hurt that it gave him the opportunity to see if Wilhelm remembered anything that he had admitted to only a couple of hours ago.

The rest of the morning had been so worth the exhaustion with how Wille worshiped Simon. Touched him. Kissed him. All feelings that he was sure neither had felt before. It had felt euphoric and dare he think it.. Loving. Like Simon and Wille were the only two people who mattered. It was soft and gentle, clumsy and new, but so special. Waking up to the soft golden sunlight and Wilhelm’s gentle caresses had felt like a fairy tale with a happy ending. Simon wanted it to happen again and again.

After Wille had left to go to breakfast, Simon didn’t mean to fall asleep. But he was so tired and there was still warmth in the sheets from both of their bodies, even his rumbling stomach couldn’t get Simon to get up and put clothes on and face the day.

Wille had made a sandwich for Simon, it was the least he could do after everything that Simon had done for him that night. It worried him when couldn’t find Simon on the trail from the bus stop. Talking to August about what happened to him after the party only made Wille more anxious. That conversation left no time for Wilhelm to find Simon before needing to go to class.

When Simon’s chair remained empty in all classes and there were no messages from the boy, Wille worried more. His legs bounced and he chewed nervously on his gum. Once they were free for lunch, the prince made a beeline for his room.

As soon as he entered, his whole body slumped with relief. The beautiful boy that he liked so much was still in his bed, sleeping soundly. Simon was laying almost as he had been when Wille woke up, but facing the room rather than the wall, and it brought back very pleasant memories that made his heart race just a little. A soft smile graced his face as he knelt down by Simon’s head and watched him sleep for just a minute before very carefully tucking a curl behind his ear. Thankfully Simon didn’t stir like he had that morning, Wille wanted him to sleep, he knew the boy needed it after what he had put him through.

Setting the sandwich he made that morning on his desk with a note, Wille quietly left, leaving Simon in dreamland.
