Summary
"Last night." Kip says, carefully, as if he's handling shards of broken glass. "We broke up last night, Scott. We talked. I told you I had a family and… and that I couldn't keep lying to them." He pauses. "I told you I was leaving."
Another silence.
Kip hears Scott's breathing on the other end of the line, ragged. As if he were just now realizing they'd broken up.
"No." Scott finally says. It doesn't sound like an angry denial; there's no anger in his voice. But this is worse: it's pure disbelief.
"Scott…"
"No." Scott insists, and Kip hears a hint of panic in his voice that makes his heart ache. "No, I don't…" His voice drops slightly, and he hears a shaky exhalation, a crack in his voice. "I don't remember having that conversation."
Or: Kip has broken up with Scott, but Scott isn't sure yet that it's really happened.

Summary
"What about Nancy?" Dustin asks softly against his lips, and Steve knows he's not asking out of jealousy or resentment, but out of curiosity and a good dose of logic.
It's a logical question, considering how hard Steve was trying to get closer to Nancy, to win back the heart of someone who was never meant to be his... and whom Steve doesn't want to be his, because the person he wants is right in front of him, waiting for something Steve should have given him long ago.
He exhales softly with a small, sly smile, feeling a tenderness that almost makes his chest ache. He breathes against Dustin's lips, barely touching them, not yet kissing them, and as if his voice were touching something sacred, he murmurs:
"Turns out she was just my Tammy."
Or: As they prepare to return to the Upside Down, Steve and Dustin confess their feelings.

Summary
For the first time in years, Lex Luthor can breathe without feeling the weight of the shadow upon him. For the first time, the night sky doesn't challenge him with that figure that used to seem immortal. There's no flowing cape, no silhouette silhouetted against the moon, no person shouting that name. Only silence. The silence that falls after an argument, the silence that falls after a fight. The silence that falls after a defeat, after a victory.
Lex won.
Superman died.

Clark smiles with mock patience and a slight hint of annoyance that he can't hide. "What if it's time for you to come to bed?"
"Smallville, if you're going to seduce me with weak arguments, at least bring a stopwatch."
Clark sighs, walks over, and leans down enough to wrap his arms around him from behind. "I don't need a stopwatch, Lex. I just need you. In bed. Now. Can you do that, or would that be a huge sacrifice?"
Lex snorts, but doesn't move away. "You're ridiculous."
Or: Clark just wants his boyfriend to get out of that stupid lab and kiss him.

Summary
"Clark, we didn't know you were coming! Why didn't you tell us..."
With a bold, mischievous smile, Lex steps up behind Clark, leaning in just enough to make it clear he's there, and over Clark's shoulder, he watches Mrs. Kent have the epiphany of a lifetime.
He reaches his hand through the empty space between Clark's body and the door, as if it were a perfectly normal social gesture.
"Hi, Martha. Nice to meet you, I'm Lex."
O: Lex meets the Kents.
