"Aren't you forgetting something, your highness?"

Silver stopped and slowly turned to squint at Gold. "What would I be forgetting?" he asked in a clearly annoyed tone.

Gold smiled smugly and leaned against a large rock. "Fairy tale rules. I rescued you from peril. Now you gotta kiss me."

As expected, Silver's face scrunched up. He was not amused, as usual. But what happened next wasn't expected at all.

Silver looked back at the cave entrance, as if confirming they weren't being watched. He then marched over to Gold, pulled him by the front of his shirt to the side of the rock facing away from the entrance, then before Gold could ask questions, locked lips with him.

It took a moment for Gold to process what was happening. But he was not stunned for long, oh no. He quickly recovered and kissed back, pulling Silver closer by the waist and putting a hand to his cheek. In response, Silver tugged at Gold's shirt, kissing him even harder.

This was surely a dream. Silver was kissing him. Silver was kissing him! And Gold was loving every second of it. This felt like one of those weird dating sims, he was making out with a hot prince who also happened to be a deadly assassin. But it was real. 100% actually happening. And it felt so nice. He wanted this moment to last forever, when there was no war, no empire, no rebellion… just them.

Alas, Silver brought the moment of euphoria to an end as he pulled away. But Gold did not feel his shirt being released, and he opened his eyes to meet Silver's half-lidded gaze. In the darkness of the night, he couldn't see the colors of his face, but it felt warm — the pale skin must be flushed. Their lips were still inches apart, and their breaths mingled. Though the kiss had ended, Silver had not made a move to let go of Gold yet. After a moment the redhead finally spoke, his voice barely above a whisper.

"...Let's do that again."

"Yeah."

Passionately, hungrily, they kissed again, tightening their hold on each other. Back and forth they fought for control, a battle in and of itself. Was this what their alternate selves experienced in Red and Blue's world? Gold wouldn't lie; he might tease Silver all the time and turn everything into a competition, but he held a certain admiration for the guy. Silver had a will of solid titanium and a level of badassery so high it was practically irresistible. Clever and quick-witted, downright terrifying when he wanted to be.

...How had Gold not fallen for him before now?

Buzzed from his revelation, Gold had an idea. He waited for a lull in action to propose a new challenge, swiping the tip of his tongue across Silver's lower lip. There was a moment of hesitation, and Gold repeated the gesture, slightly slower this time. It did the trick; Silver's lips parted, and Gold dove in.

He took full advantage of it, nudging Silver's tongue until he coaxed out a little noise of satisfaction. But the redhead was still holding back, and Gold became determined to change that. He went deeper, pushing past the tip of Silver's tongue to slowly lick the center. He felt Silver shudder in his arms, so he did it again, even slower, drawing out a soft moan. One more lick, the slowest yet, and at last Gold felt Silver's tongue start to extend followed by a soft pressure against his lower lip. Gladly he opened his mouth to let Silver's tongue slide in under his. Gold tilted his head to the side so that their lips were sealed as their tongues tangled, exploring each other.

This started out as a joke, but it turned out Gold really liked kissing Silver. Something about it was so satisfying; he couldn't get enough of it. Feeling another tug on his shirt, he intensified the kiss even more, prompting yet another moan. Silver sank deeper into Gold's chest, and Gold tucked some stray bangs behind Silver's ear and stroked his cheek. At one point they separated momentarily and gazed at each other through their eyelashes, noses and foreheads still touching, their tongues retracted but mouths still open with a small string of saliva between their lower lips. Without wiping it away, Gold smiled slightly.

"Careful, your highness," he whispered, his breath washing over Silver's lips. "Kiss me much more than this and I might start growing on you."

"Shut the fuck up," Silver hissed, and they kissed a third time, their mouths open to allow each other's tongues in immediately.

They kissed a fourth time. And a fifth. Gold stopped counting after the sixth kiss, he wanted to enjoy this without spending brainpower on pointless math. Instead he focused on the feeling of Silver's lips against his, the taste of his breath and the spark of excitement that ran up his spine every time their tongues touched. Gold made sure to keep Silver on his toes with some variety: one kiss was short and chaste, the next long and indulgent. Just when Gold's mouth was starting to feel sore, Silver finally broke out of his grasp and started to back away, panting slightly. He wiped his mouth, scowled at Gold and growled, "Tell anyone and I'll kill you."

Gold grinned and winked at him. "Our secret, your highness~," he answered. Silver rolled his eyes, but merely turned around and marched inside the cave.

Once he was gone, Gold pulled out his phone. He had to tell Crystal about this.

He didn't want this. He didn't need this. He was here to play his part in a war, nothing more. He needed focus. Not feelings.

So why did he kiss Gold?

Silver lay in his bed inside his private tent, not even close to being sleepy. There was too much going on in his head. Why did he kiss Gold? Why did he like it so much? Why did he keep going back for more? Gold was insufferably obnoxious, and ever since he got here he had been doing everything in his power to annoy Silver. He thought Gold hated him?

But then why did he rescue Silver from the Rocket camp in the first place?

Silver rubbed his face, grumbling quietly. He knew he was attracted to men, and he knew that Gold was attractive. But he really didn't want to be in love right now. With anyone. He didn't have time.

So why couldn't he erase the image of Gold atop his togekiss, holding his hand out for Silver to take, saying "Your ride is here, Your Highness," with that cocky grin? Why couldn't he forget the feeling of warmth that spread through him as he held onto Gold's waist and leaned into his back as they flew over the ocean? Why couldn't he banish the thoughts and desires that now swam in his head?

He wanted to kiss Gold again. He wanted to be enveloped in that embrace that felt like a sweet poison, quickly draining his will to resist. He wanted to feel that gentle touch of Gold's hand stroking his cheek, to lose himself in those soft lips, to forget everything else as Gold oh-so-slowly caressed Silver's tongue with his own.

But he just couldn't indulge himself like that. He was here to do a job. He couldn't let his feelings get in the way of it. No matter how much he wanted to kiss Gold again.

Silver sighed. Maybe… maybe he could keep these thoughts for himself. To remember on his bad days. To remind himself of a nice feeling he felt once, and maybe that would be enough to drive him through those days. Silver smiled slightly and closed his eyes. Surely Gold didn't feel this way. The whole thing was a joke that just got out of hand.

But it felt nice to think that he might.
