Work Text:
When Greg entered their home, he saw by the hanging coat and perfectly lined up shoes, that Mycroft had returned from his mission.
He called softly, "Mycroft?" as it was not uncommon for Mycroft to take a nap when he returned from a trip that had lasted several days.
Being careful not to make any noise, Greg headed for the bathroom. When he passed the bedroom, he couldn't help but take a quick look around.
His heart leapt in his chest.
Mycroft was lying on the side in the middle of the bed. He was sleeping peacefully, with an old Greg hoodie pressed against him.
Greg tiptoed back out, and once in the hallway, overwhelmed with emotion, he slid against the wall, his heart pounding at the implication of what he had just seen.
A few minutes later, he got up and went to take his shower. He was drying his hair when he heard Mycroft call out to him.
"Greg?"
"In the bathroom!"
A few seconds later, Mycroft walked into the bathroom and embraced him before asking, "Have you been home long?"
"Just long enough to take my shower. How about you? Did you get some rest?"
Greg couldn't help but blush as he thought back to the scene he had caught just before and ran the towel over his face even though it was already dry.
"Yes, I'm fine. But I missed you when I got home." Mycroft hugged him once more before burying his face in his neck.
Greg wondered if it was possible to die of an emotional overdose. He tightened his arms around Mycroft and they stayed like that for a few moments. Then Mycroft broke the embrace and smoothing Greg's disheveled hair, he said softly, "I'll take your place in the shower."
"And I'll get dinner ready."
Greg gave him one last kiss before leaving the bathroom.
Waiting until he was sure Mycroft had entered the shower, he glanced around the room again and saw that his top was lying on the bed exactly as he had left it that morning.
He continued to the kitchen and as he prepared the meal, he couldn't stop the questions from running through his mind. Was this the first time? Was it just this top? Why did Mycroft do it?
He tried to think of something else when he heard Mycroft get out of the shower.
Moments later, Mycroft slipped his arms around Greg's waist and kissed him on the neck before resting his chin on his shoulder and trying to see what he was cooking. After a few seconds, Greg opened one of the pans with an exaggerated gesture and a sidelong glance, revealing a mouthwatering smelling sauce.
Mycroft hummed with satisfaction, "That looks delicious. You spoil me."
" Taste it before you say that." Greg retorted before setting a plate in front of him and sitting down across from him.
They told each other about their days as they ate dinner, catching up on what they had missed in each other's lives while Mycroft was away.
Once the dishes were done, both tired, they decided to have an early night.
As soon as he entered the room, Greg's eyes were drawn to his hoodie on the bed. He took it in his hands and blushed slightly as he remembered how Mycroft had held it against him.
Mycroft entered the room at that moment, his eyes moving from Greg to the hoodie several times. Cheeks slightly pinkened, he looked up at Greg and said softly, "I guess you saw me?".
Greg stammered slightly, "Ahem.... yes, you were asleep when I got home and the bedroom door was open, I couldn't help but peek in. Hm... I... how do I put this... uh... do you do this a lot?"
Mycroft shook his head, "That was the first time."
Greg scratched the back of his head and asked, a little embarrassed, "And, well, not that I mind, but can I ask why?".
Mycroft said nothing.
He made Greg put on the hoodie, slipped his arms around him and put his head against his chest.
"And now put your arms around me, will you?"
Greg, confused, nevertheless obeyed and hugged Mycroft.
Mycroft's voice came to him, muffled.
"That's the reason I did this, when I got home I missed you, so when I saw your hoodie it made me think of you and here you are..."
"Aww Mycroft..."
"Stop it, not a word. I'm embarrassed enough as it is."
"If I can't say a word, then can I kiss you?"
He didn't wait for Mycroft's answer and pressed his lips to his. Then when they parted to catch their breath, he whispered against Mycroft's lips, "You know, that gray cardigan you wear to read on the couch, it is very comforting. You shouldn't leave it lying around so much."
Mycroft gasped then chuckled softly, "We're both incorrigible sap."
"That's why we're meant for each other. " Greg retorted.
Mycroft didn't respond and instead kissed Greg again.
Because that was the only possible answer.
