Misplaced Dreams

Summary:

Izuku didn't start out his life on the streets planning to be an informant for the principal of UA. But after his mom died and he failed his final year of middle school...more accurately his school failed him so he couldn't go to UA...he had to survive somehow and Nedzu was willing to pay.

He never reached out to Nedzu first. He waits for his assignments and keeps his head down and survives as best he can until he is needed. He gets the intel delivers it and gets his money and then it's over.

But he can't sit back when he sees a young girl with white hair and red eyes being dragged off by Kai Chisaki, a known leader in the underground. So, he emails Nedzu. Then, knowing that there is a better way for them to perform the rescue he goes to them in person.

Little does he know this is the moment Nedzu has been waiting for. The moment Izuku trusts them enough for Nedzu's plans to come together to change Izuku's life for the better.

They hope.

Chapter Text

Nedzu is just sitting down to his evening cup of tea when his phone pings with a message. Normally he would wait for his cup of tea to be finished before returning to work, however only one person would message him at this hour.

And that person never texts him first.

Something is afoot.

He checks his messages.

Green Pawn: I know that Nighteye is gathering intelligence on the Shie Hissaikai but he is being too slow. And there has been a complication. Intel in your email.

Nedzu quickly opens the email subject line Save Her.

He is immediately on his phone.

“Nighteye? You have a problem.”

Shouta walks into the boardroom wiping sleep from his eyes. The rest of the raid team is here already, including…Nedzu.

“Nighteye what is this? I thought the Raid wasn’t for another month?” Fatgum says.

“An unforeseen complication has arisen,” Nighteye says, and the projector throws the image of a little girl with white hair and red eyes. Grabbing her shoulder is Kai Chisaki, the boss they are trying to take down.

“Apparently the girl is held in his compound,” Nedzu says.

“Right now?” Tamaki asks.

“Yes.”

“Is the information good?” Shouta asks.

“My informant said so,” Nedzu says, “he also knew about the raid team.”

“How?”

“I used to be an All Might fan. I recognized you,” a voice says and they all stare up as a small figure dressed in black drops onto the conference table.

“How the hell did you get in here?”

“Your security system was off because you were in here but your security personnel aren’t here because the Agency isn’t open at this time.”

“Who are you?” Fatgum demands.

“The person who took the photo,” the figure says.

“Ah Green Pawn, I was wondering if you would break your no contact rule,” Nedzu says and the person throws off their hood.

Shouta blinks.

That is a child.

“A child broke into my Agency?” Nighteye demands.

“I am fifteen! Only two or three years younger than the kids here,” the boy says.

“You look twelve.”

“Well I am not. Now Nedzu I might have an in I can use to get inside the facility and let in the pro heroes. Also you should know that you are missing someone who could be key in a peaceful resolution,” the boy says.

“What in? And what person?”

“Midnight. Get a fan and access to the vents and you can put the whole place to sleep, go in and arrest them!”

“And the in?”

“Me. I’m good at breaking into places. I can get the girl out or at least get her calm enough so that she won’t freak out when you all come bursting in.”

“You are a child!” Fatgum says.

“Never stopped me before, besides the power shuffle that is going to happen when you take them down whether with or without my help will mess up a lot of things. Might as well save her the wait for freedom.”

“Your safest bet is to get Midnight to help if you want a peaceful solution,” the kid says, and walks across the table and then walks out the door.

“Nedzu…were you using a child as an informant?” Shouta asks slowly.

“Yes, please Aizawa, I know you know I would not do so lightly nor without some other intent,” Nedzu says.

Shouta doesn’t want to listen to the Rat. He knows Nedzu wouldn’t use a kid…right? But then what is his angle? The kid was the same age as some of his new students. Only fifteen with not a single thought about fucking over Yakuza?

“Well what’s the plan?”

“Eraserhead can you contact Midnight? I do feel that he was right about preferring so settle this peacefully and I believe we should take his advice.”

“He is a child!” Nighteye snaps.

“He is also incredibly intelligent and I agree with him,” Nedzu says.

Nighteye doesn’t look convinced.

“Midnight does make sense. Even if we don’t go with the full plan, having her there will help us take out a large amount of people,” Shouta says and pulls out his phone to send her a text.

“Good. Then let’s start planning shall we?” Nedzu says.

Chapter Text

Izuku hadn’t meant to get involved with Nedzu of all people. When his mom died and he failed his final year of middle school he had given up.

He couldn’t do it anymore. The beatings and the torment and the rest of the absolute bullshit that comes with being quirkless in society. He knew what would happen to him. In foster care he would die. Either by his hand or someone else’s. So he took to the streets. The alleys. Places that don’t ask questions and where doing so gets you in trouble.

He kept his head down. He had learned how to do that at school, with his bullies and he perfected it his first month on the street.

He’s still not sure how or why Nedzu had wanted to track him down. But track him down he did. With his ability to hide in plain sight he was a perfect informant for things that could be accessed on the net. And it paid as well. Enough to provide him with food to stay alive. And it was a weekly wage. Even if Nedzu didn’t need him to look into anything for him.

So that's how he lived. Through most of the summer. He wasn't really surprised that Nedzu didn't question a teen living on the streets. All heroes are the same. They're just like All Might.

To think he once idolized the man that nearly broke him. That had left him on that roof a few months ago and never looked back.

Izuku used to wonder what would have happened if he had jumped that day. Would All Might have realized that was him? Would he have even cared?

Probably not.

So he just kept doing what he had been doing. Keeping his head down.

But…then he saw a young girl. Too young for the streets. Being grabbed by Kai Chisaki.

He doesn't know what he was doing with her. But he followed them.

Everyone knows what area is under the control of the Yakuza families. He stays away from them. But this little girl was bandaged and bruised. Hurt beyond the simple scrapes of childhood.

Like he had been.

Seeing her get dragged into that facility cemented in his mind what needed to be done.

He snapped the photo before they had gone in. His phone is much better quality so he can get better information.

He sent the email and was done.

He'd done enough. Sped up the raid and hopefully saved the girl.

But then he had heard Midnight whining on the phone about how Eraserhead's secret case was taking away from their friend time and he was shocked. It made so much sense for them to use Midnight. Was there something he was missing? Her quirk is perfect for infiltration missions.

So he watched the Nighteye agency and broke in once he saw people arriving. With his security system turned off to allow the others to come in, and with no human defenses he easily slipped into the vents of the building and dropped down.

He was quick and to the point. He wanted that girl saved so that he could get on with things.

He's terrified of the power struggle that will come from this. From the loss of a powerful player. The streets won't be safe. Not until a new figure takes Chisaki's place. But it doesn't matter if they take him out now, in a month, or in five. The impact will still be the same.

So why not save a girl from a little suffering?

He leaves as quickly as he came and he tries to get some rest before he has to start the day again.

He's almost asleep when his phone wakes him.

White King: Be there an hour before dawn.

Izuku sets an alarm.

Guess he's breaking into a Yakuza base.

Chapter Text

He beats the other heroes there. Shouta has always been better at arriving to things on time when they are important.

And this is important.

A little girl’s safety is in danger.

The kid from earlier is peeking out of an alley and Shouta makes his way to the kid.

“It’s pretty early for a kid to be awake isn’t it?”

“A teacher too,” the kid says.

“It’s summer vacation, Kid.”

“Is it?” he says absentmindedly.

“Eraser,” he hears and sees Nemuri coming this way.

“Who’s this little thing?” she asks.

“It is a pleasure to meet you Miss Midnight.” he says politely.

At least the kid is polite.

“This is Nedzu’s informant.”

“That is a child.”

“I’m a teenager!”

Nemuri looks at Shouta.

Shouta shrugs, he doesn't know what to make of the kid either. Do his parents know he’s working as an informant? Are they not concerned about this kid being out at five in the morning? Or the fact that he’s gonna help break into a Yakuza facility?

There’s a lot of questions that Shouta would love to have answers to. But it’s not like he can ask these to a kid he barely knows. Maybe he should look into the parents.

He has a sinking feeling he knows the answer but he wants to hold out hope that he’s wrong.

“What’s your name?” Nemuri asks.

“Nedzu calls me Green Pawn,” the kid says.

“Why?”

“My hair is green and I am one of his many pawns that he used to get his desired outcome,” the kid says with a shrug.

Shouta wants to say something or ask something, he isn’t sure, but before he can the rest of the raid team starts to arrive.

Izuku watches as the adults talk about the plan.

It’s the one he had come up with. Get Midnight’s mist in the building and take them in peacefully. No property damage and hopefully no casualties.

Izuku hopes he’s right about this working because otherwise he’s probably going to be arrested. Hell he’s probably going to be arrested anyway if they find out he doesn’t have parents and ran away from foster care.

The access vent on the very back of the building is easy to slip into. With the age of heroes most people don’t bother to arm their smaller entrances.

Izuku is just barely able to slip in and slowly make his way through the different vents. Nedzu has sent him an email with the blueprints for the building and he checks periodically through vent holes to make sure there are no deviations.

There are a few. What looks to be walls and rooms added. But the vents are the same.

The problem is he doesn't know where they're keeping the girl.

It takes almost an hour before he's able to find her. And another fifteen minutes before he can get the vent open.

He holds up a hand when she goes to scream and she pauses opening her mouth.

“My name is Izuku, I am here to help you.”

“Izu?” she asks.

“Yeah that’s fine. I am going to get you out okay? But you need to be quiet,” Izuku says and hands her a small gas mask. He has one too.

“Can you put that on for me? Someone is going to be sending in something sweet smelling in here and it’s going to make everyone really sleepy but not if you wear that.”

“What’s your name?” Izuku asks.

“Eri.”

“Nice to meet you Eri,” Izuku says and moves a little closer to her.

“Hold on tightly to me okay? I’ll keep you safe, Eri,” Izuku says.

“Okay Izu,” she says and puts hers on and Izuku puts on his mask and clicks the receiver in his ear.

“Ready to go?”

“Mhm,” she says, tucking into his side.

“This is Green Pawn, we’re ready.”

It’s weird seeing the pink mist filling the room. It’s so odd to see her sleeping mist but not yawning.

Eri whimpers when the mist comes up and over her leg.

“It’s okay we’re safe,” Izuku hushes her softly. He can hear people yelling and feet pounding.

And then he can hear the sounds of people hitting the floor.

He can hear footsteps coming towards them.

Izuku pushes Eri behind him.

“Green Pawn.”

“In the very back, Eraserhead. I’m with Eri,” he says. Sure enough Eraser appears outside the cell and sets to work picking the lock, mask over his face. When the door opens Izuku helps Eri to stand and then helps her out towards Eraserhead.

“Eri, this is Eraserhead. He’s going to take you somewhere safe.”

“You as well kid. You’re coming back to UA, too.”

“No I am not. That was not part of the deal.”

“Tough kid. You have to be there to give a report.”

“Nedzu’s just going to name me as an unnamed informant, it’s fine,” Izuku says.

He goes to move away from Eraserhead but a hand on his shirt tangles in his shirt, making him look down at Eri.

Her hand is gripping his shirt.

“Please don’t leave me Izu?” She says gripping onto him.

Damn.

“Okay Eri. I’ll stay with you.”

He picks her up in his arms and follows Eraserhead out of the facility. Eri refuses to let go of him so he can’t escape.

Chapter Text

Shouta watches the kid as he sits in the conference room. God he’s so small, his feet barely touch the ground.

Eri had been small too. It had taken an hour for her adrenaline to knock her out so they could get her medically examined.

Shouta doesn’t even want to think about what caused half of those injuries but he wants to kill them.

Hizashi is on his way. Nedzu had told Shouta to call him.

Shouta isn’t sure why.

That’s a lie. He has a feeling he knows why. But he’s missing information.

“Hey Shou,” Hizashi says. Shit Shouta hadn’t even realized he was there.

“Hey Zashi.”

“Any idea why I was called in?” He asks.

“I have a theory but…for it to be a good one it makes a lot of assumptions that I have no evidence to back up. But it’s a lot, Hizashi.”

“Ah! Thank you for coming on such short notice Yamada. I know you get such little time to rest between jobs and I am truly sorry for interrupting your time. However, earlier today we rescued a young girl from a Yakuza base. However, there has been a few complications,” Nedzu says.

“Complications?”

“From the records we were able to find in the facility she has no family and she also has a volatile quirk.”

“Meaning if she goes into Foster care she will have trouble finding a family.” Hizashi says.

“Yes. Now UA would take custody of her…however that girl doesn’t deserve to be a ward…she deserves a…”

“A family.” Hizashi says.

“Exactly. I know you and Aizawa have been working on adopting. I was hoping that you would be willing to meet with her when she wakes up to see if you could be parents to her.”

“And? You wouldn’t have had me come all the way down here if that was all of it. Does it have something to do with the boy in the conference room?”

“Ah yes…you see Izuku Midoriya, for the past few months he has been my informant.”

“You were using a child as an informant!”

“Yes. Because he was already living on the streets when I found him and like Eri, foster care is not an option for the boy.”

“You want us to take him in too?”

“I want you to at least meet with him. What comes from that is up to him.”

Shouta wants everything to slow down. A lot of things are happening very quickly. And of course he would take these kids in. He and Zashi have been working towards adoption for almost a year now. And here Nedzu is offering a chance to take in two kids.

It’s going too fast.

“Of course Eri would not be able to go home for a short time while being treated for her injuries. But Izuku could be yours as early as we are able to get him to agree and the paperwork filed.”

Too fast.

“Nedzu can we have a minute?”

“Of course.”

Shouta can hear steps moving away from him.

And then there is a hand on his back rubbing it.

“Shou breathe. It’s okay. I know the world is going pretty fast right now huh?”

Shouta gives a mute nod.

“Just breathe, I am right here okay?”

It takes a few minutes but he’s able to calm down enough to look up at him.

“There you are. Okay let's break this down so it’s easier to manage okay?”

Shouta nods.

“Question one, are we okay with having two kids.”

Shouta thinks about it. He and Hizashi aren’t getting any younger. God knows when they’ll get another chance like this again.

He nods.

“Okay. Next question, are we okay with having a teen and a child.”

Shouta nods again. Neither one of them had wanted an infant. Their jobs don’t allow for it and they had agreed that age didn’t matter outside of that.

“Okay. Great. Now the quirk question. Quirks are tools right?” Shouta nods, he’s already said that. They would never base adoption on a quirk.

“Doing great Shouta. Are you okay with Eri and Izuku?”

“Y…yeah. Eri trusts him and Izuku…I barely know the kid. Except that he risked the wrath of the Yakuza and being thrown back into foster care to save her. I think that tells me a lot about the kind of kid he is.”

“Then I think we have an answer huh?”

“Yeah we do. Thanks Zashi.”

“Anytime babe. Now let's go talk to Izuku. Find out if he even wants to be fostered by us.” Hizashi says.

Shouta nods and collects himself as they step into the room.

The kid…Izuku…is gone.

Chapter Text

Izuku doesn’t know why he ran. Honestly. But he had heard Eraserhead and who had to be Present Mic talking about adoption and fostering him and Eri.

Fosters never work out for him. Not once they read his file and find out he’s quirkless.

He knows how this goes.

So he ran. Ran from UA. The place that he had spent years of his life fantasizing about.

He needs to grab his stuff and leave now. Change his spot. He needs to move now.

He skids to a stop in his alley.

Present Mic…well his civilian persona anyway is sitting on an overturned trash can.

“How…”

“You picked this alley because it’s close enough to the library to go there when it rains or snows. You’re near the shopping district but not enough for heavy traffic. The only people using this area live here so you can predict their timing. It makes things safer.”

“How do you know all that?”

“Because that’s how I used to pick out my spots,” he says.

“You…”

“I deafened my parents when I was a baby. They didn’t want me after that. I was tossed from home to home. I was 10 when I ran away and started living on the streets and 13 when I met a boy with light blue hair and two moms who matched. They took me in, got me set up with tutoring and when he went to UA he dragged me along too. They were my family. Then when he died…it hurt too much but Eraser…Shouta kept me from throwing away the life that blue haired boy convinced me I deserved. I may not know what you've got through but I'm the closest person you're gonna find.”

“You don’t get anything. I don’t have a place in the world.”

“Everyone has a place in the world. It's just that other people overestimate their own and put other people down."

"Really," Izuku scoffs.

"Really."

"Then what's the place of someone Quirkless?"

"Wherever he wants to be. Even if people…if society says they don't they do."

"Why do you even care? I'm just some kid you've been ordered to adopt."

"Okay first off we weren't ordered. Shouta and I have been working to adopt for a while now. It's just hard getting a case worker to work with us because despite the fact we're both pro heroes our quirks aren't really desirable for the kids the system cares about and for the kids the system cares about they just dump them anywhere. Second, you get as much a say in all this as we do. Same with Eri. That's why we were gonna have that talk before you left. To see if we would be good parents for you."

"Why not just adopt Eri and have a kid of your own, there are quirks that allow it."

"Well firstly, neither of us wants a baby. We work long hours and need the little sleep we do get. Secondly, Shouta's quirk, according to the doctors, would negate the quirk genes in a kid. Meaning they'd be Quirkless," Izuku opens his mouth to say something but Mic keeps talking, "not that that would change how much we loved our child but doctors don't know what would happen if his gene were to mix with a mutant type quirk gene. Would it just negate the mutation? Would it affect the formation of certain things? Everyone thinks my quirk is an emitter but it's not. It's mutant. My chest cavity is larger, my lungs bigger, the lining of my throat thicker because my voice is always on. I just consciously lower it. Would his gene negate the quirk factor causing the development of mutated lungs or of lungs in general. It's not something either of us wanted to find out. Especially not when neither of us wanted an infant anyway."

Izuku blinks, because that was a lot. He's not sure if the doctors know what they're talking about though. Because if that's the case then how did Aizawa get his quirk?

"Shouta's parents had different quirks. His mom could force activation of a quirk by touching someone and his dad could force people to speak in reverse while staring at them. The levitating hair comes from his grandmother who has a bit of a reverse gravity quirk centered on her head."

That makes a bit more sense. His parents' quirks combined in him.

He's still not sure if it would cause Quirklessness in any children but he's not a medical doctor. He just examines quirks.

"Why two kids?"

"What do you mean?"

"Why both Eri and I. Why not just one and then you can wait to see if other kids catch your eyes."

"Because you're here in front of us and you both need and deserve a home with parents who care for you and love you. And three grumpy cats."

"That's not a polite way to refer to your husband."

Mic laughs.

"No, I mean actual cats. Not the one masquerading as a human man. We have three cats. Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup."

Izuku blinks.

"Shou picked the names. He said it reminded him of our friends when we were kids. I'm blossom, he's buttercup, and our friend was bubbles."

"But as I said, you and Eri need and deserve families. And if you'll let us, we can provide that to you both."

"I have to repeat my final year of middle school." Izuku warns.

"Nedzu can test you out and prep you for high school late application sessions."

"Health insurance and treatment is more expensive for Quirkless people."

"Our health insurance is provided by our employees and extends to family, and in emergencies we just go see Recovery Girl."

"I mumble."

"So do I when I'm thinking."

"I…hate the number one pro hero."

"So does Shou. You sure you two aren't related?"

Izuku flounders for another reason, any other reason. But this man isn't balking at anything he throws at him.

He has passed every year Izuku has laid for him, without so much as a blip and his ultimate trump card, his quirk status, has already been played.

He's got one more left though.

"I want to be a hero."

And Izuku waits. Waits for Mic to sneer or tell him to be realistic.

"You'd need a lot of training. You're a noodle. But I bet you could start in gen ed and move up through the sports festival since the application process for hero students is over. Shouta could train you at home! He got into the hero course via the sports festival too! It'll be a ton of work but it's not impossible, if you're willing to work for it."

"But I'm Quirkless!"

"Shouts fights mutant types quirks Quirkless, Mandalay fights everyone Quirkless, so does Rag Doll and Nighteye. I do too if there's too many people around. Recovery Girl used to too, before retiring from pro heroics. Midnight fights Quirkless if she can't use her mist. Quirks are just tools people use. So what if you don't have that tool. You can find, make, build, use other ones."

Izuku stares at him.

He really means that.

There's not a hint of deception on the man.

"You really mean that."

"Of course I do. Shouta would agree if he was here since he came up with the 'a quirk is a tool' thing."

Izuku looks at Present Mic. One of his favorite limelight heroes. A man who is telling him all the right answers.

"Okay…"

"Okay?"

"Okay I want to go with you and your husband," Izuku says.

With the way the man reacts you would think Izuku told him he won a million dollars.

Chapter Text

Izuku sits in the hallway outside of Eri’s hospital room. The healing quirk used on her had knocked out. Eraserhead had given him a bag of chips. Promising him real food when they get home.

Home.

That’s something he hasn’t had in years.

It’s kinda nice.

“So…do you want to go to UA? You said you wanted to be a hero but there are a lot of schools with heroics programs.” Mic asks.

Izuku looks up at him.

“I don’t know…I've always had my heart set on UA."

“Well…unfortunately you wouldn’t be able to apply for Heroics or Support. Their exams were last week. But if you want to take the General Studies course…and then you would have the option to transfer into heroics with a good showing at the sports festival and other options.”

“Can I think about it?”

“Of course Kiddo. Take your time and if you have any questions about Gen Studies you can ask Shou. He was in Gen his first year.”

“You were?”

“Yes. You can imagine that my quirk is only good for people. And I wasn’t allowed a support item. So, my only hope was to get in on the sports festival. Which I did. And ended up stuck with that one for the rest of my life." Aizawa says.

"I…I suppose it wouldn't hurt to go to General Studies. It'll help overcome some of the Quirkless discrimination I'll face when trying to find a job if I don't become a hero."

"Alright. Then we only have a few days to get your application in and get you tested out of middle l school. The exam is in a week."

"That won't be necessary," Nedzu says, appearing from nowhere.

"What do you mean?"

"I already submitted a general studies application for him once he agreed to be adopted, and I can have the middle school exam administered at your convenience," Nedzu says and vanishes.

"It's times like this that I think he had this all planned from the start."

"Wouldn't surprise me. He's a rat for a reason."

"Stoat actually."

"It's just an expression, Kid."

"Oh."

The nurse comes out and talks to Mr. Aizawa for a few moments then goes back to the door.

"The nurse said Eri is awake enough for visitors but we have to be gentle with her." Aizawa says, and they walk into her room.

Eri looks so small in that bed. Bandaged up. One of the nurses must have left a unicorn toy for her because she's clutching it to her chest.

"Izuku!" She says, reaching for him and god he can't resist giving her a hug.

"Hi Eri. That's a pretty unicorn. Have you named her yet?"

"No. I haven't found a good name," She says.

"Eri…there's something we would like to talk to you about," Mic says, sitting on the edge of her bed.

Eri looks up at him a little frightened.

"Do you know what adoption is?" He asks and she shakes her head.

"It's when someone or a couple want to pick a child or children to be theirs because they don't have families or they don't have good ones. And that person and the child become a family. Does that make sense?"

"Mhm!"

"So, me and Eraserhead are gonna adopt Izuku, the three of us are gonna be a family. But…someone is missing. We have a son. But we would also like a daughter…maybe with red eyes and white hair that likes unicorns. Eri, would you like to be part of our family too?" Mic asks. Eri looks at Izuku and Aizawa. After all, they're the ones she knows. She hasn't really met Mic.

"Hizashi is my husband. We love each other very much. I trust him." Aizawa says.

Eri looks at Izuku.

"Izuku?"

"It's up to you Eri. But I don't think they would hurt you."

Eri looks worried.

"Don't wanna hurt you!" She says.

"What do you mean sweetie?"

She points at her horn.

"Hurts people!"

"Well it's a good thing my ability will stop your horn." Aizawa says.

"It will?"

"Yes. And I'll help you learn to control it so you don't have to be scared of yourself, Eri."

She seems to think it over.

She looks up with a determined look on her face, which is more adorable than it should be and nods.

"Welcome to the family, both of you. Can I hug you? Please, I really want a family hug!" Mic says.

Eri looks at Aizawa and Izuku. Aizawa seems to sigh and let Mic wrap his arms around him.

Izuku isn't so sure about this but Eri seems like a hugger so he nods and lets himself be pulled in and Eri does the same. Till all four of them are hugging.

Izuku doesn't want to admit that the hug feels nice.

Chapter Text

Hospital chairs are absolutely not comfortable at all.

But Hizashi said that trying to separate their kids would not be a good idea for either of them.

Their kids.

God.

Well not officially yet. They still have to sign the paperwork. Which is harder for Eri because she never existed in the system so she isn't adoptable yet until the administrative stuff is taken care of for her.

Izuku is surprisingly harder to adopt than they thought.

According to his file he was currently placed with a couple who live a few miles from here in Hosu.

How Izuku had gotten all the way down here is anyone's guess. But the family had never reported the boy missing so they could still collect the stipend to take care of him.

Detective Tsuchauchi is talking to them right now and Nedzu he thinks is having a very lengthy conversation with Izuku's case worker.

His boss is smiling at her a lot from what he saw during the zoom call.

And anyone who knows anything about animal behavior knows that's not a good thing.

But back to the painfully uncomfortable hospital chairs.

Hizashi didn't think separating their kids would be a good idea. And also that Izuku wouldn't feel quite safe with them in their house till he got used to them.

Hizashi had compared it to letting a kitten get familiar with their new owners scent before giving her go her new owner.

He loves his husband dearly but Shouta does not need all his comparisons to be cat themed.

But he does appreciate it.

So Izuku is cuddling Eri in her bed. Both currently asleep. He had let Mic take the more comfortable looking chair leaving him in the cheap plastic chair.

But the family is together. That's what counts.

But he's also terrified.

Before he had fallen asleep, Izuku has asked him about the process to be a support course program and about materials to learn to design and build support gear.

Shouta promised to look into it.

An email to Powerloader should give him the transfer requirements. Because he just doesn't know how a student would go about transferring. Heroics has the sports festival. He's heard Nemuri complain about looking through business proposal that he knows to transfer into the business course you have to do a business plan for a dead hero.

But how does one transfer into support?

The materials on support design are easily solved. After sending an email to Powerloader he goes and orders a few materials online and some notebooks to go along with them. Both line, grid, and sketch papered.

Hizashi has warned him about doing too much for the kid too soon. That they don't want to trigger him into a panic attack. They have to spoil him slowly. Eri should be easy enough to spoil. She's still young enough not to worry about it if they say it's okay.

They'll start with the essentials for Izuku then slowly spoil him as he gets more comfortable.

The boy in question has passed out next to Eri and Hizashi can't possibly handle all of the arrangement by himself. Which was the only thing that had kept Shouta from hoping onto the zoom call with Izuku's foster parents. Who hadn't reported the boy as a run away in order to keep collecting money for his care.

It made his blood boil.

And he could see the threat simmering under Nedzu's fur so he left the couple to his tender mercies.

While he was able to focus on his family.

That feels really good to say.

He and Hizashi always wanted kids. But a lot of stuff conspired against it.

His quirk's genetic effect, Hizashi's quirk being incredibly dangerous in early years of development. Hizashi's work schedule, how own work schedule. Both of their quirks making fostering unlikely.

They never thought they would get the chance. They kept eyes out for students who weren't okay. Had Detective Tsuchauchi keep an ear to the ground about kids who just need a family to give them a chance.

And now here they are. A little girl and an older boy. Who have already bonded with one another so that won't be a worry.

He knows if won't be perfect. Both their kids have been through a lot. But Shouta always fights for what he wants. Hell he fought his way into being a pro hero with nothing but his own fucking stubbornness and a non physical quirk that only works on some people.

But he fought for that and he'll fight for this family.

After all he's wanted a family way more than anything, even becoming a pro hero.
