Skippers

Summary:

"Uchiha."

The classroom was silent.

"Absent..." the instructor whispered, making a mark on his roster before moving to the next name on the list.

"Uzumaki."

Yet again, there was no answer. The silver-haired man breathed out a sigh. Those two were probably skipping or something... again.

Notes:

Work Text:

"Uchiha."

The classroom was silent.

"Absent..." the instructor whispered, making a mark on his roster before moving to the next name on the list.

"Uzumaki."

Yet again, there was no answer. The silver-haired man breathed out a sigh. Those two were probably skipping or something... again.

"Yamanaka."

"Present!"

Yamanaka Ino also let out a sigh as she settled herself into her desk, letting her bag drop to the floor.

She had been wondering what those two had been up to lately. This was the third day in a row that neither Uzumaki Naruto nor Uchiha Sasuke were in class. Which was... extremely odd.

Sasuke was a very bright student, holding his grades above all else. Naruto, on the other hand, was not. He was normally in class every single day, however, talking his head off and occasionally disrupting class. The last couple of days had been very quiet with his absence... Today was no different.

At lunch, Ino was interrogated by her fellow classmate and so-called best friend- Haruno Sakura.

"Have you seen Sasuke-kun?" she asked Ino, furiously brushing pink strands of hair over her shoulder. Her emerald eyes bore into Ino's blue ones- daring her not to give her the answer she desired.

Sadly, Ino could not provide.

"No, Sakura. No one has seen him since Tuesday," she sighed. Sakura let out an irritated moan, letting her shoulders sag.

"I swear, something must have happened to him. I mean- he never misses school! He has the highest grades in our year!" the pinkette cried. Ino rolled her eyes.

I mean sure, she was getting a bit worried too, but it didn't do her any good to dwell on others so much. She had only recently figured this out, for she used to be obsessed with Sasuke, just like Sakura still is. Luckily, once she finally realized that he would never return her feelings, she and Sakura were able to have a better friendship. Her supposed best friend, however, still constantly bugged and annoyed her with nonstop banter about the attractive boy.

"You know, Naruto hasn't shown up to class since Tuesday too, Sakura. You should be worried about him as well."

Ino's attempt at changing the subject from her past crush backfired in her face. Suddenly Sakura's face was full of rage.

"That- I bet Naruto did something to Sasuke! You know they can't stand each other! Oh my- when I get my hands on him I'll-!"

Ino just narrowly avoided Sakura's flailing arm, saving her lunch tray before it could fall to the floor. She sighed and tucked a strand of blonde hair behind her ear.

By the time sixth period had rolled around, Ino had been sent to the nurse's office after throwing up. Luckily she made it to the bathroom in time, but her teacher was not pleased with the abrupt interruption of her running out of his class.

"Okay, Papa... yes... I'll be safe... It's okay."

Ino let out a long sigh as she held her phone to her ear, slumping lazily in the uncomfortable chair of the disinfectant-smelling nurse's office.

"Alright, I love you too. Bye."

She snapped her phone closed with a click before signing out of the office on the same sheet of paper she had signed in on. She really didn't feel that bad- it was probably just the school's awful lunch that made her puke. But either way- her papa thought it best for her to head home early anyway.

Suddenly she had the thought of what if there was a bug going around school. If so, it could explain why Naruto and Sasuke had been absent the last few days.

As Ino made the short trek home, she found herself eyeing the surrounding areas of her hometown- something she knew the ins and outs of. The wind was blowing softly- which she found comforting. It was a beautiful day, and even though she had gotten sick at school, she felt fine now and planned to use the extra time to her advantage.

She decided to take the long way home and walk down the railroad tracks.

Her steps were uneven as her feet landed only on the wooden panels in the middle of the tracks. It reminded her of when she would play the floor is lava as a kid.

After walking for a while, she found herself about to cross the familiar bridge that held the tracks above the local creek. This part of the creek was not one of the most popular, but was still one of the teenage hotspots- the concrete walls below were lined with graffiti.

Ino's feet came to a halt when she heard a faint laugh coming from under the bridge. She paused- listening to see if she had imagined it or not.

Her suspicions were confirmed when she heard yet again another laugh, this time a bit louder.

Curiously, she walked to the edge of the tracks, and carefully peered over the bridge. Her blue eyes widened in shock as she laid eyes on a certain duo down below.

Uchiha Sasuke and Uzumaki Naruto- the two skippers- were sitting together on the large rocks nestled beside the creek. The laughter that Ino had heard was the cause of Naruto dropping his popsicle in the water. Sasuke laughed at him as the current carried it away.

Ino was dumbfounded. She would have never expected Sasuke and Naruto to be skippers. And even more so to skip together!

Suddenly Naruto was shoving Sasuke and they both had started laughing.

"Stop laughing at me before I sock you in the jaw!" Naruto threatened, although not very seriously considering a big grin was clearly evident across his face.

"Whatever, usuratonkachi. You're just mad that you lost your popsicle and I still have mine," Sasuke teased, waving the dripping popsicle dangerously close to Naruto's face.

The boy huffed.

"Teme!" Naruto pouted, scrunching his eyebrows together and dipping his head slightly. His blonde hair tousled in the breeze. It was refreshing, as summer was nearing dangerously close, and the temperature seemed to rise more and more these days. It just made Naruto even more bummed that his refreshing treat had been stolen by the stupid creek below them.

Sasuke smirked at the disappointment on Naruto's face. Cruelly, he further tormented the other by bringing the cold treat to his lips before giving it a slow suck.

Naruto only grew more jealous as he watched the slowly melting popsicle drip juice onto Sasuke's fingers. Then, he couldn't take the torture anymore. Before Sasuke even had time to react, Naruto had lunged forward, grabbed the other's wrist, and forcefully brought the popsicle to his mouth.

Sasuke's lips made an 'o' shape in shock as the blonde took almost the whole popsicle into his mouth, giving it a long suck only to pull away and lick his lips.

"Mmmh," Naruto hummed- although the sound came out a bit more erotic to Sasuke's ears.

The sight had Sasuke's face turning red- and it wasn't because of the warm temperature outside.

His popsicle somehow ended up slipping from his hand into the creek as well.

"Oi!" Ino heard Naruto shout.

By now she was covering her mouth, trying to hide her obviously flushed face from what she had just witnessed. It was shocking- unexpected.

If anything she thought Sasuke and Naruto had hated each other. But from what it looked like under the bridge, they were acting pretty buddy-buddy… maybe a little too buddy-buddy.

She tried her best to slip away unnoticed, thankful that she wouldn't have to see the two boys until after the weekend was over.

She still couldn't believe that Naruto and Sasuke had indeed been skipping class.
