"I have one more present for you," Harlen said as he pulled a small box from the pocket of his jacket.
Marcus eyed it with a little bit of suspicion, "It's not a–"
"No!" Harlen shoved It across the dining table at him, dirty plates smeared with the aftermath of cake sat on the side. "I don't think we're quite ready to get that serious, but I thought maybe a little more serious."
The Wolf flipped open the box and stared at the tiny fob key for the identification pad to Harlen's house.
"I could get you scanned in tomorrow?" The Rabbit asked, nervously studying his lover's reaction.
Marcus was silent, still staring at the tiny little bit of metal and plastic.
“Marcus?” Harlen asked nervously.
The Wolf blinked, his eyes golden, as he carefully closed his fist around his last birthday present of the year. “How are your neighbors going to react to a Wolf moving in next door to them?”
Harlen made a dismissive noise. “The Mao’s invited you to their barbeque last month, didn’t they? And the Haselle’s kids love you.” That took care of their immediate neighbors on either side of them.
“But what about the rest of the neighborhood?” Marcus asked.
“Well,” Harlen skirted around the dining table and climbed into Marcus’s lap, now that he was certain his present wasn’t going to be rejected. “I’m sure I could come up with some grand idea. How about…” he placed both his small hands on Marcus’s neck and rubbed the pads of his thumbs over the jugular veins on either side. “I could have a collar made that read: ‘Property of Harlen Lapin’ and you could wear it every time you left the house.”
“Only outside of the house?” Marcus asked in a teasing tone. He placed the box on the table and tucked both his hands underneath Harlen’s asscheeks. He leaned down and gave his Rabbit a long appreciative kiss. “Thank you.”
