Summary
Humanity carelessly overused their gifts and trampled upon the world without fully understanding what they were doing. They burned away their life to create miracles, violating the natural order and forcing their beliefs onto the world. Then the Flux appeared, and from it came fauna and flora who could utilize humanity’s powers — the Corrupted, and the Drowned.
In response, most of humanity gathered into great states, hoping to build bastions of civilization against the encroaching monsters. They developed powerful runetech and learned to control their powers. It didn’t save them. Eventually most escaped to a new land, their societies crumbling away.
But not everyone had fled from death. Small pockets of civilization stayed behind, honed their abilities to a razor’s edge, commandeered and innovated on abandoned technology, fought back against their fate, and learned to thrive.
