   Summary

   Isobel crying, Max unable to find the words. Alex upset, we’re covering up a murder. He can’t do that to them. He’s going to die and if he does, he’s going to leave the people he loves in pain. Hasn’t he spent an entire lifetime trying to avoid just that? Maybe his methods have been less than stellar in the past, maybe his genius idea of pushing all the love in his life away from him so there won’t be anybody left to care isn’t actually sustainable. But at least he’d tried.

   So he’s trapped between two dichotomous desires. He wants to spend whatever remaining time he has left with the people who matter to him. He wants to stay far away from them just as much, hide from them so they won’t see the ugly truth of who he is, before the end.
