"Because I'll Face It All With You"

Summary:

The moonlanders have invaded and Louie is scared out of his mind. However, he can't think about it too much as they need to go find allies. Luckily, he is not alone in this as his mom and his siblings are with him. However, Della seems to be hiding something from them and it is up to Louie to find the angles and help his family stop Lunaris before it is too late and Duckburg and the world are destroyed.

Spoiler alert: someone gets hurt in the process

Notes:

This entire story is told from Louie's point of view, which makes sense since every story in this series has revolved around him.

So any of the action with Scrooge and Glomgold will not be in this fic, sorry. Also I added some extra stuff to give more Louie angst as well as to add a bit of drama and to also further carry out my mission to portray as much brotherly love/triplet bonding in my stories as I can.

Hope y'all enjoy the final chapter.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

The next week was rough to say the least. Every night, Louie kept tossing and turning and when he couldn’t go to sleep, he made his way up to Huey’s bunk. He found that his oldest brother was having the same problem. Louie found himself in Huey’s arms and with the warm embrace and the reassurance that everything was going to be ok as long as they were together, Louie soon fell asleep

The following day, Dewey gave them a brief rundown of everything that he knew from Penny’s warning. The next week was spent waiting in anticipation for the moon to invade. When the day finally came, the boys woke up and went into the tv room, where the rest of the family was gathered. Everyone look tense and Louie knew what was happening. The moon was invading.

Scrooge turn on the news and the boys huddle themselves close together with Louie being in the middle and a brother on either side of him.

Louie tried to listen to what Roxanne Featherly was telling them but honestly, he couldn’t really hear much over the static in his ears and the panic that was started to run throughout his body. Everything that was happening look really scary and Louie wasn’t sure what was going to happen. This was an angle that he just couldn’t see at the moment.

Louie soon felt a hand intertwined with his left hand and a hand on his right shoulder. Louie didn’t need to look to know that it was his brothers’ hands. Dewey starting to rub his right shoulder and could feel Huey give his hand a squeeze, letting Louie know that everything was going to be ok as long as they were together.

The reassurance was sort lived as they saw the moonlanders start blasting everyone with lasers. The tv soon went blank from the blast and Della let out an “Aww phooey”.

Scrooge soon ordered everyone to get into the Jeep. With no hesitation or asking where they were going, the kids and Della piled into the back of the Jeep with Beakley driving the Jeep and Scrooge in the passenger side

The drive to the Money Bin was intense as they were getting constantly shot at by lasers and Beakley had to swerve around a lot of moonlanders in order to get to the Money Bin safely. Unfortunately, that meant an uncomfortable ride for everyone in the back. Huey and Louie were on either side of Della, with Dewey and Webby across from them. Even though the seat belts prevented them from flying out of the Jeep, the tossing and turning was still rather uncomfortable.

At one point, Mrs. Beakley had to make a sharp turn in order to avoid driving over some moonlanders which sent Della and the kids almost flying out of their seatbelts and on instinct, Huey tried to reach across Della to make sure that Louie was ok. Louie felt a hand touch his arm and looked into the scared eyes of his oldest brother. Louie desperately grabbed his brother’s hand and gave it a squeeze, giving them both reassurance.

Louie should really be worried about his other brother who decided at that moment to open up the back window of the Jeep and act like a hero, saying that saving the earth was he “dew-stiny” or something like that. Luckily, Webby pulled him in before he could get shot with a laser and he could feel Huey breath a sigh of relief along with him

Once they reached the Money Bin, they were checked for any bruises, to which there were none. The family made their way up to the board room, where they found Gyro going over some plans. Unfortunately, Gyro informed them that all of the defense systems have been comprised by the moonlanders and that this was a “very-well planned invasion”

At that moment, Lunaris came up on the projector screen talking about he was from the Planet Moon, which Louie thought was not a thing but Della said that apparently it was a thing with them so he decided not to press it, and that Lunaris wish to speak with his Uncle Scrooge.

Louie soon realized that Lunaris was a guy that could see the angles as he seemed to know every move that they made and that Lunaris was coming for them next. Louie watched enough movies to know that villains almost always go for the weakest link, which was the children. This meant that Lunaris was coming him and his siblings next and that sent a shiver down Louie’s spine and almost made him put his hood on.

Scrooge then suggested that they should call for help, unless the communication satellites were down as well. “Oh no that was Louie who did that” Huey said. Louie then got a little defensive and said “That was last week. I didn’t know there was going to be an alien invasion this week”. Huey and Dewey could see Louie getting a bit stressed so they decided to calm him down a bit by rubbing his back, to which Louie was grateful for and leaned his head on Huey’s shoulder

Gyro then said that he had a plan and the family was soon in the Money Bin’s underwater lab. The whole elevator ride was pretty intense and Louie was trying his best not to panic. Luckily, his brothers were right there, continuing to rub his back. He was also grateful that Huey was still allowing him to lean on him, which provided comfort to both of them. Webby was also there, holding his hand and Louie just smiled back at her, to which she returned the gesture.

Once they got down to the lab, Gyro explained to them how Lil’ Bulb’s Bulb Tech ran on their own network and how they could use the bulbs as like walkie talkies to communicate with.

As Louie watch the bulbs leave to go find allies, he couldn’t help but stare at a full-scale model of Duckburg that featured the rockets. Louie couldn’t help but feel like part of this was his fault. Because he took down the communication satellites, there was no way they could call for help and they were pretty much defenseless. He knew that his family would never say that it was his fault but Louie could feel that guilt eating himself inside. This was not good for his self-esteem.

Luckily, his mom had a plan to search the globe for allies and his role in this was to see the angles that she couldn’t. That he could do. “I won’t let you down mom”, to which she ruffled his hair and Louie could feel some of the guilt washing away and for the first time all day, felt a sense of love and safety. With his mom and siblings at his side, Louie felt like taking on a moon army wouldn’t be so bad

Once Della and the kids got onto the plane, Della started up the plane and took off. They made a plan that their first stop would be Egypt at the Temple of Toth-Ra. Dewey and Webby got comfortable in their seats while Louie was in the co-pilot seat beside his mom, looking over a map. Huey was tasked with the communication and getting the Lil Bulbs to work. Once they got closer to Egypt, Huey used the Lil Bulb to let Uncle Scrooge know that they were approaching Egypt and that their first stop would be the Temple of Toth-Ra.

Louie had some not so good memories at this place but he put those thoughts aside for there was an even bigger threat at hand then an undead mummy hunting him down.

Louie explained to his mom that they could bring Amunet’s mummy army back to Duckburg and that Faris Dijin could come with them as well since he was also in the area

His mom seemed to think so as well, which brought a sense of comfort to Louie. It felt nice to be in charge for once.

Louie then turned his oldest brother and asked if he got the bulb phones working. Unfortunately, it seemed like his brother was struggling a little bit so he went up to help him. Once all of the bulbs were off of Huey, he thanked Louie for helping him, to which Louie said “No problem”

“There’s the pyramid” their mom yelled. Soon Dewey and Webby joined them at the front of the plane and they could see the pyramid coming into view. However, their hopes were soon dashed when they realize that the moonlanders had already beaten them there.

Huey (via Bulb): Dijin, Amunet. This is Huey Duck you guys doing ok down there?

Amunet (via Bulb): we’ll be fine

Della (via Bulb): where are the rest of your people?

Amunet (via Bulb): safe in the pyramid

Louie: Dewey, Webby watch for lasers. Mom take us down

But instead of landing the plane, Della chose to take them up higher and away from the pyramid. Louie didn’t know why their mom wasn’t landing the plane. Della replied saying that there was no place to land, to which Dewey responded with saying that there are a lot of places to land since it is mostly flat desert.

“Dijin and Amunet can’t hold them back much longer. The moonlanders will invade the pyramid” said Della, ignoring Dewey and Louie’s comments. ‘I mean sure eventually but I thought we were getting reinforcements?’ Louie thought. “What about the plan? What about reinforcements” is what Louie actually said. “We find them someplace safer” Della said, though she didn’t sound too sure about that.

Luckily, the Bulb phone that they got Amunet was still in range as they could hear her talking. “Can’t believe we defeated a Sun god to only get attack by moon people. If only there was some kind of moon god”. That’s when it hit everyone at the plane at once.

“OR GODDESS” they all exclaimed at one time

“To Ithaquack” Della proclaimed excitedly, steering the plane towards their next stop. ‘Hopefully the gods will be able to help us’ Louie thought to himself

Once they arrived at Ithaquack, Della and Louie went up to the front door of the Pantheon in order to speak to Selene, while the other three kids stayed behind, with Dewey and Webby sparing with each other and Huey still trying to the bulbs off of him

“Hello? Selene? Goddess of the Moon?” Louie asked cautiously. The only answer he got was a lighting bolt from Zeus. Luckily, Della stepped in front of him and backed him away from the door before either one of them could get hit.

At this point, Della had enough and demanded that they be let in. Both Louie and Della tried to convince the gods to let them in but while Louie was doing it so that they could convince them to join them, Della was doing it because they needed a place to hide.

What confuse Louie was that he said that they could never go back to Duckburg. ‘Why is mom acting so weird? It’s like she is running away from the problem’. Louie hoped that this wasn’t the case. “Sorry mom I am confused here” “Trust me it’s all part of the plan. You don’t need to know every part plan but it is a great plan” Della said both in a hurry and with panic. Ok now Louie was even more confused then ever. “Is part of the plan saying ‘plan’ a lot? What is going on here mom?” Louie asked, now more worried when confused.

Suddenly, they were almost hit by a laser and looked up to see an incoming moonlander ship. Della groaned in frustration and quickly grabbed Louie by the arm, signaling her other kids to get on the plane. Everyone made a quick dash for the plane but Huey accidently tripped over one of the Lil Bulbs and felled to the ground. The lasers kept on firing from the ship and Huey was struggling to get up and avoid the lasers. Luckily, Louie heard his brother’s yell and ran back to help him off the ground.

“Thanks Lou” “You’re welcome, Hue. Now c’mon let’s go” Louie said urgently.

The two boys quickly ran to the plane and, as soon as they were in the plane safely, Della quickly took off in order to avoid the spaceship.

Della ordered her kids to sit down and buckle up, but only Huey and Louie listen as Dewey and Webby were being bold for reasons Louie could not understand why.

Della tried her best to fly carefully but when you are being chased by a spaceship, caution and safety go out the window very quickly. Louie hung on for dear life to his seat and was scared out of his mind. He soon felt a hand in his and realize that it was Huey. Huey had a look of panic in his eyes but there was also a sense of comfort there as well, letting Louie know that he was not alone in this. With a smile and a squeeze, both boys felt a bit calmer.

Louie could see that their mom was trying to look at both a map and fly at the same time. Eventually, she realized that she couldn’t and propped her metal leg up in order to keep the plane steady. ‘Benefits of having a robotic leg I suppose’ Louie thought.

“Okay. We can get to the Dawson Mines. Oh, or the caves of Mt. Neverrest” Della exclaimed. Louie didn’t understand what his mom was talking about. He thought they were looking for recruits and he could hear Huey voice this exact concern. The only thing that Louie could think of to respond to his brother’s question was that their mom was looking for a second base to attack from, but even he wasn’t convinced of that.

What happen next was a blur to Louie but the memory was burn in his and his brothers’ minds for a long time after that. If maybe they just did what their mom asked and were secure in properly, this probably wouldn’t have happened.

The wing of the plane got hit from one of the lasers and Della lost her balance. Luckily, she was able to grab the steering stick and pull it upward so that way they were flying upward. Unfortunately, when she did so, the kids were forced to hold on the seats or, in Webby’s case, the railing. Louie wasn’t sure how but Huey wasn’t holding on as tightly as the other three and he began to fall backwards. Louie had his eyes closed but he soon heard his brother’s screams and Della calling out his brother’s name. Louie opened his eyes in a panic and saw his oldest brother falling.

At this moment, Louie could feel his heart stop and the breath go out of him. His mind was screaming at him to save his brother but his body was too frozen to do anything. Luckily, Dewey had the same idea as him and went out to reach for their brother.

However, it seemed like Webby also had the same idea and also went after Huey. Unfortunately, when she did so, she ran into Dewey and that cause their momentum to slow down and they had to hold on to their railing. Dewey tried to reach out for Huey’s hand but just missed him and Huey went crashing into the back of the plane with a loud ‘thud’, causing a small crate to fall on him.

Louie wasn’t sure if he should cover his eyes or kept staring at the scene in front of him. Looking at his siblings, they looked horrified and Louie could tell that both of them looked guilty. Louie wasn’t having any of this. They couldn’t get to Huey like this so he ordered his mom to get the plane back under control, to which she did with no hesitation.

Once the plane was upright again, Louie and Dewey wasted no time going to the back of the plane to check to see if Huey was ok. The sight that greeted them was not a pretty one. A small crate was on top of Huey’s legs and he seemed to be out of it. Louie feared that he might have suffered a concussion but he wasn’t sure so he trying shaking Huey awake.

“Huey. Huey c’mon wake up bro” Louie said, ignoring how his voice shook and how he was on the verge of tears as he tried to wake up his brother. Dewey just watched from the side, worried that touching his brother would cause him to crumble

After a few attempts, Huey began to stir and Louie finally let his emotions spilled out by hugging his brother tightly around the neck and letting some tears fall. Huey then winced in pain and Louie thought that he hugged Huey too tight but then realized it was because of the crate on his legs.

Louie motioned Dewey and Webby over to help him and together, they manage to get the crate off of Huey’s legs. Huey tried to stand up, but instantly felled back down with a sharp intake of breath.

“Are you ok Huey?” Louie asked. “No. My legs hurt. I think they might be broken” Huey replied sadly. “Don’t worry. We will help you” Webby replied. Louie and Webby got on either side of Huey and help him stand up and walk to the front of the plane, though Huey was walking on shaky legs. Louie looked back and saw Dewey walking slowly behind them with his head down. Louie knew what was going through Dewey’s mind and he would have to assure Dewey later that this was not his fault.

Once they got to the front of the plane, Della turned around and was shocked at what she saw. “Oh my gosh Huey. Baby are you ok?” she asked, not at all hiding her worry. “I’m fine Mom. A little bruised and I think one of my legs is broken but I’m fine otherwise”.

This earned a sigh of relief from Della, but Louie was not relieved at all. This whole mission had seemed like a bust. They haven’t got any recruits and not only that, but Huey was hurt. Louie drew the line when it came to his siblings being hurt. Louie soon realized that this whole thing was more about running away then finding help. This was all a scam and that made Louie really mad. After sitting Huey down in a seat, Louie walked up to his mother and confessed that they should go back to Duckburg immediately in order to get Huey medical attention. But Della was stubborn in saying that they can’t go back to Duckburg, not when they are being targeted by Lunaris. Louie could feel his blood boiling and was about to yell at his mom, but Dewey beat him to it.

“Are you crazy!?! Huey is hurt and you don’t want to go back to Duckburg?”. Louie could tell that Dewey was on the verge of tears but he didn’t stop his brother from yelling at their mother, since this was rare. “So that’s it huh? We don’t fight back? We leave our friends and family? Do you even care about us?”. That earned a shocked gasp from everyone and Della turned to look at her middle son with a heartbroken expression “Of course I care about y’all. You guys are my family. I can’t lose you again”.

At that moment, they got hit again by another laser and before they knew it, they were spiraling down towards the water. Louie and Dewey quickly grabbed on to Huey and held on tight. If Louie was going to go down, it was going to be with his brothers and no one else.  The boys looked at each other with fear in their eyes but their eyes also portrayed something else that far exceeded the fear and that was love. Love that they had for each other, knowing that it could be their final moments together. The last thing Louie remembered before he blacked out was holding on tightly to his brothers and surprisingly, even though he was falling to his potential death, he felt at peace and safe.

“Louie” “Louie”. That voice. He knew that voice. That voice was always comforting him whenever he was having a nightmare or got too overwhelmed due to stress. “We are safe now Louie. You can open your eyes now”. Louie slowly opened his eyes and turned to the direction of the voice. He was greeted with a warm smile and caring eyes staring back at him. Louie soon realized that he was still in the arms of his older brother Huey, who was gently stroking his hair feathers. The touch was definitely comforting.

Louie took a minute to take in his surroundings and realize that they were still in the plane but that they were no longer in motion. ‘Must have crashed then’ Louie thought. “Mom crashed the plane” Huey said, as if he could read his thoughts. Louie quickly looked around to see if he could spot his siblings or his mom. Huey must have sensed his worry because he began to stroke his back in order to calm him down. “They are ok Lou. They went to check to see how bad the damage is”

Louie felt relieved at that but the worry came back when he looked at his older brother. “Are you ok? The crash didn’t injure you any further, did it?” Louie asked, concern evident in his voice and also realizing how much it shook. Huey gave a sad smile and began to stroke both Louie’s hair feathers and his back. “I’m fine Lou. I still don’t think I can walk but as far as I known, no further injuries”.

Once again, Louie sighed and wrapped his arms around his brother, hugging him tight. He then placed his head on his brother’s chest, listening to his heartbeat and closed his eyes. Huey continued to stroke his back and placed his chin on top of Louie’s head. The rhythmic sound of Huey’s heartbeat was like a lullaby and it brought a sense of peace and comfort to Louie. If he could, he would fall asleep right now.

Unfortunately, the moment was short-lived as his mom, Dewey, and Webby were making their way to where they were. They all seemed happy to see him awake and they brought him into a hug, along with Huey

After a minute, Della claimed that they had crash-landed on a deserted island and that they should go out and investigated. All the kids agreed. After helping Huey stand up, they made their way out of the plane. Della was the first one out and she carefully helped the kids down, paying extra attention and care to Huey so that he wouldn’t injure himself further.

Once all the kids were out, Della happily exclaimed how they were safe. “And stuck” Huey retorted back. “You have to be pretty unlucky to be stranded here”

At that moment, they heard some trees and bushes rustling that they knew wasn’t from the wind. Someone else was also on the island. Dewey and Louie protectively put their arms around their older brother, while Webby and Della served as a protector for all three boys. If this person wanted a fight, they were going to get one. The person walked further out of the shadows and all five ducks realized how it was instantly.

“Donald?” Della said tearfully. “Della?” Donald said, though his was more of surprise. At first, no one moved. The kids were in shocked and the two adults didn’t know what to do. Eventually, Della made the first move and Donald eventually moved as well.

The two just stared at each other for a while, before dissolving into tears and giving each other the biggest hug ever. Louie wanted to run up immediately and hug his uncle and just cry into his chest, saying how much he missed him but decided to let his mom and uncle have their reunion. His siblings seemed to have the same opinion as they all watched on with fond expressions, feeling very happy for the twins.

Suddenly, Huey legs gave out and he gave a sharp pain. Louie didn’t realize that Huey was standing up, until Huey grabbed on to his shoulder in an attempt to continue standing. Uncle Donald must have heard this as he quickly let go of Della and ran over to where Huey was, with Della right behind him. Louie and Dewey didn’t hesitate to give their uncle some space. “Huey honey are you ok? What happened?” their uncle asked, clearly switching into parent mode, like it was second nature. “I’m fine Uncle Donald” Huey said calmly. “My legs just got trapped under a crate and..” “WAIT WHAT?!?” their uncle squawked.

Even though their uncle was hard to understand at times, Louie really missed that voice. Louie didn’t wait any longer and threw his arms around his uncle, burying his face into his uncle’s sailor uniform. Even though it smelled like sand and saltwater, it still smelled like Uncle Donald and Louie missed that smell so much. Donald was taken aback for a second, but he quickly recovered and began to gently rub Louie’s back and stroke his hair feathers, just like Huey did earlier.

“Tell me everything that is going on”. And with that, Della and the kids went into the whole story about the moonlanders invading the earth and how they ended up on the island. Donald also told them of how he ended up on the island as well. By the time both stories were over, Donald had four kids and his arms and Della had her arms around her brother’s neck, happy to have him back. Donald soon got up, which forced the kids and Della to get up as well, though Huey once again needed help getting up.

“Lunaris is a monster. We got to find a way off this island, so that way we can help Huey and help Uncle Scrooge fight off the moonlanders” Donald announced. “And now that we found you, we can all fight Lunaris together” Louie excitedly said.

Unfortunately, Della wasn’t too on board with this. “No way. The plan is to keep you as far away from danger as possible. Besides, Scrooge knows exactly what he is doing. Hey kids wait right there I’ll be right back”

The boys watch their mom leave towards the crashed plane and shared a look with each other. ‘Whatever she was planning must not be good’ they thought to themselves.

“Kids I have a surprise for you. Ta-da. Welcome home. We can live here as long as we need. Look you kids each have your own rooms” Della exclaimed excitedly. ‘Yep, not good’ Louie thought, as he watch a crab fall out of his suppose ‘room’, which was really just a locker.

The kids chose to ignore Della and started to work on a plan to get back home. “So, let’s see we got this tree, sand, water, a whole lot of both” Huey explained “How can this get us home?”, which promoted Louie to put on his thinking face. Louie could see Dewey raising his hand out of the corner of his eye, like they were in school and knew immediately what his brother was thinking.

“Keeping in mind Dewey can’t surf us to safety because he does not know how to surf” Louie said almost exasperated. “We don’t know that until I tried” Dewey said excitedly. Dewey then grabbed a piece of wreckage from the plane to act as a surfboard. But as soon as he tried to surf on the water, the tide immediately brought him back in. Huey and Louie just giggled while also having tired expressions on their faces. Only their middle brother could bring such reactions out of them.

At that moment, Della came up to them and ask if they wanted to play a game of either beach volleyball or even a friendly game of tic tac toe or hide and go seek. “We don’t have time for games” Huey answered. “I’m hurt and the world is at stake here. We need to get back to Duckburg”. At the mention of Huey being hurt, Louie moved closer to his brother. “It’s too dangerous. We don’t know what is waiting for us back there”. “But the Earth needs our help” Webby tried to argue, but Della wasn’t listening. “Scrooge will handle it” she said like it was the most obvious thing in the world.

What Louie was most concern about was not only getting his brother some medical attention but also on how in the world were they going to survive on a deserted island. Sure, Uncle Donald had seemed to do it for months, which still surprised him, but there was a lot more of them now. The chances of surviving out here were slim to almost none.

“And how are we supposed to survive” Louie voiced his concerns. “It’s fine. Everything is fine”. Della started to get a crazy look in her eyes and the way she was talking meant that she was beginning to go a bit crazy. ‘Oh no this can’t be good’ Louie thought. “We got sand, zero contact with the outside world, and a crashed plane we can use as a house. Living here is going to be great” Della crazily finished after fighting off with a crab.

“No offense Mom, but we might as well be living on the moon” Dewey said concerningly. After hearing this, Della began to laugh hysterically. This caused Dewey to slowly back away from his mom and Donald to huddle close to the kids, knowing what was coming. Louie has never seen his mom like this and honestly, it scared him a little bit. “You must be delirious from hunger. Here has some delicious Oxy…chew. Oh no. No no no this is the moon all over again”. At this moment, Della chose to kick a coconut that was on the ground with her metal foot. She kicked it so high that it flew very far into the ocean.

After letting some of her anger out, Della retreated the crashed plane. Louie watched her go and began to feel bad. It seemed like their mom was struggling with a little bit of PTSD and Louie have been too caught up in his own problems to realize.

“I have never seen mom act like that” Dewey said after a moment of silence. “It was…frightening”. Huey beckon Dewey over and brought him into a side hug, with Louie doing the same on his other side. Dewey hit the nail on describing their mom’s reaction. Neither of the triplets have seen their mom act like that before and it was scary, to say the least.

“I’ll go talk to her” Donald said. As he was about to get up, Louie grabbed his arm to stop him. “Actually, Uncle Donald, let me talk to mom” Louie said, which caused his brothers to look at their youngest brother. Louie knew that what had just happen was scary but Louie also knew that he and his brothers needed to be the ones to talk to their mom.

“By talking to her, I feel like I can get her to talk about her feelings and get her to come around”. Louie then looked to his brothers. “Would you two come with me there though? I could really use the support in case things begin to go wrong”. Huey and Dewey didn’t hesitate for a second. They nodded their heads and each of them placed one of their hands on Louie’s shoulders. “We will always be there for you Lou. No matter what” they said.

Louie felt better about talking to his mom, knowing that his brothers were going to be there with him. The boys turned their uncle, who just had a huge smile on his face and hugged his nephews and whispered “Good luck” in their ears. After making sure that Huey was upright, the boys slowly made their way to the crashed plane, hoping to talk to their mom and convince her to fight.

Once they arrived at the hole in the plane, they could hear their mom humming a soft tune to herself. Louie sort of recognize that tune, but couldn’t pinpoint where he heard it from or what it was. Louie also noticed their mom placing a picture of three ducklings next to one of the windows. In the reflection, Della noticed her three boys standing behind her and Louie decided to pluck up courage.

“Hey mom” he said softly. “I drew this back when I had to imagine what you boys looked like” Della said sadly. All three boys walked closer to the picture and Louie would have to admit that although his mom drawing skills were not the greatest, he could easily picked out who was who.

“Huh. She really nailed you Dewey” Louie said jokingly, nudging his brother in the shoulder. “Yeah, she really did. Good job mom” Dewey said, trying to cheer her up. A small smile appeared on Della’s face. But it quickly melted away. “On the moon all I could think about was being your mom. The adventures and the fun. I wasn’t prepared for…all of this”. Della slide down the wall to the ground and brought her knees up to her chest, with her arms crossed over her knees. Louie recognized it as being in despair, as he has done it so many times. Louie looked to his brothers, who look a bit lost on what to do. Luckily, Louie did and so he slide down right beside his mom and began to give her a pep talk.

“Look I hate surprises. I like seeing every angle of a situation so that I can take control of it. But you can’t plan for everything. Sometimes a robot boy uses you as a pinata”.

This earned a weird look from Della. “I think I’m losing the thread here” she said confusingly.

“But sometimes the mom…or brothers you thought you lost come back”.

Louie got up and looked to his brothers for that last bit and they could only smile and put a hand on Louie’s shoulders.

Louie then redirected his attention to Della. “And that’s a surprise too. So, you deal with the bad surprises because they may lead to a good one”.

Unfortunately, Della was still not convinced. “But what if Lunaris succeeds. What if I lose you again? What if…”

Louie could see that Della was beginning to spiral into unwanted thoughts. Louie looked to his brothers and immediately all three of them knew what to do. Before Della could go any further down a rabbit hole, Louie interrupted her

“You know when I’m terrified, which is often, I try to remember this old song”. Louie looked to each of his brothers to see if they were ready. When he received a head nod from both of them, all three of them began to sing.

Face Each New Sun, With Eyes Clear and True, Unafraid of the Unknown, Because I’ll Face It All…With…You

That last part was sung by Della, who immediately recognize the songs that her boys were singing. It was the lullaby that she wrote for them before they hatch. She could not believe that they remembered and it brought here to tears.

“I wrote that song before I got lost. How did you boys hear it?” she asked tearfully. “Well Uncle Donald used to sing it to us when we were little” Louie answered. “That’s true” Donald said from right behind them. “Every night”. “That’s a pretty great surprise” Della said.

Della smiled at her brother, silently thanking him for not letting the boys forget her. Della then turned her boys and said “That was beautiful boys. Thank you so much”. Louie instantly reached out to hug his mom, with his brothers falling suit. The family hug was nice but also short-lived, which was fine because they had a world to save.

“Let’s go face the unknown together” Della exclaimed excitedly, ready for action, which Louie and his brothers were very happy about. “So, any ideas on how to get or…?” Della asked. ‘Oh yeah. We still need to get back to Duckburg’ Louie thought.

“AHOY THERE!”

All of a sudden, Louie saw a giant krill coming towards them, with two people riding on top of it and a green blimp trailing right behind them. Louie instantly recognized the duck in green as Uncle Gladstone but he didn’t recognize the other duck. He came to find out later that it was their cousin Fethry, who Huey and Dewey had an underwater adventure with a couple of months ago.

Fethry and Gladstone explained how they came to found each other and Fethry offered them a ride on the giant krill, who Louie learned was named Mitzi, back to Duckburg, to which earned a cheer out of everybody.

The kids hopped onto Mitzi, with Donald and Della carefully helping Huey up. With one command from Fethry, Mitzi took off towards Duckburg.

Louie could feel the wind flowing through his hair feathers and he absolutely enjoyed it, choosing to lay down beside his oldest brother, to which Dewey and Webby soon followed. Louie placed his hand in Huey’s and gave it a gentle squeeze. It was a way of letting Huey know that they were almost home and that he would get the medical help that he needed soon. Huey didn’t seem to worried though, but squeezed back anyway. ‘Almost home’ Louie thought to himself.

Louie saw the giant spaceship way before they even got to Duckburg and he didn’t like it one bit. He scooted closer to his older brother in order to seek out comfort. Luckily, Mitzi was able to disable one of the legs of the ship, which forced Lunaris to fly back up into space.

‘Yes we won we did it’ Louie thought as he hugged both of his brothers close to him. Everyone slowly descended down from Mitzi. However, when Huey tried to climb down, he instantly felled onto the ice, which attracted the attention of everyone.

Huey was holding his legs again, clearly in pain. “We need to get him to a hospital now” Donald announced immediately, going into dad mode again. However, before they could do that, they could see that Lunaris had redirected his ship and was heading towards them once again. Right now, Huey’s legs seem to be the least of their problems.

‘Of course, why not?’ Louie thought to himself. It was never this easy defeating villains. Louie could feel Huey placed a hand on his back and it was enough for Louie to pull his brother into a side hug. Louie could also feel Dewey doing the same on his left side and Louie returned the gesture, while Webby went close to her granny.

It seemed hopeless now. What were they going to do? The only thing that brought Louie out of his thoughts was his mom talking to them. “Don’t I owe you kids a trip into space?” she asked while looking at one of the abandoned spaceships.

Louie looked at the spaceship and back at his mom, unsure if this was the right angle. His mom gave him a wink, letting him know that everything was going to be ok

Louie looked at his brothers, who were smiling back at him and each of them had a calm look in their eyes, seeming to trust their mom. Louie knew that if his brothers trusted her, then he had to trust her too.

Eventually, Louie gave in and return a smile back. With that, Scrooge, Donald, Della, and the kids all piled into the spaceship. Della turned on the engine and soon, they blasted off, ready to take on Lunaris head-on.

Once they got close enough, Lunaris started to shoot at them, ready to take them out. Della tried to get as close as she could to knock out his engine, but it proved unsuccessful as the lasers prevented her from coming any closer

“Kids knock out those lasers” Uncle Scrooge instructed them. With a salute, the kids took up their positions to knock out the lasers, with Huey and Louie on one side and Dewey and Webby on the other.

The kids began to take aim and fire, but then Donald and Della began to fight over for control and soon the ship began to rock, with the kids sliding in their seats. ‘Oh no déjà vu all over again’ Louie thought, while he was screaming and holding on to Huey for dear life.

Eventually, the arguing stop and Della had control again. With Della steering and the kids working together, they were able to take out all of the lasers and they could not focus on the engine

Unfortunately, neither of them accounted for the back lasers, which seemed to fire a lot more quickly than the other lasers. The lasers hit their ship very quickly and unfortunately, the kids weren’t fast enough to take out the lasers. Their means to fire were destroy and left the kids to come closer to the adults. Louie could see that his mom was getting dangerously close to the fire of Lunaris’ engine and instantly began to panic.

“What are you doing?”. “I can’t find an angle out”. It was at this moment that Louie realized that neither he, his mom, or his Uncle Scrooge could find an angle out, which meant that they were going to die in space.

Huey and Louie instantly grabbed on to each other and held on for dear life, not willing to let the other one go. It was just like when the plane went down over the island, but this seemed ten times worst. Dewey and Webby quickly ran over to Huey and Louie and join in on their hug. Surprisingly, with all of his siblings here, Louie felt somewhat safer and he knew that if he was going to go out, he was going to go out with his family.

Fortunately, they didn’t die as they were saved by his mom’s best friend/roommate Penny, which Louie could say that he was beyond happy for and instantly ran up to hug her the minute that she stepped into the ship.

After checking to make sure everyone was ok, Della brought the ship back down to Earth, safely and without crashing.

The minute that everyone stepped out of the ship, an ambulance awaited them to take Huey to the hospital. In all honesty, Louie forgot about Huey’s legs but he was glad that the ambulance was there as it meant that his brother would finally get the medical help that he needed.

When they arrived at the hospital, Huey was immediately brought back for observation. Everybody seemed to be on edge and Louie could just feel the tension in the waiting room, since they were the only ones there.

Louie also noticed how Dewey was being unusually quiet and had the most awful expression on his face. Louie immediately went up to his brother and brought him into a hug, to which Dewey returned and buried his face in Louie’s shoulder. Louie then felt something wet on his hoodie and immediately knew that Dewey was crying. Louie felt bad for his brother and began to rub circles on his back

“This is not your fault Dewey” Louie tried to reassure his brother but to no avail. “Yes, it is” Dewey sobbed. “If I just caught him in time, then he wouldn’t be hurt”.

“Dewey look at me” Louie instructed his brother, to which Dewey did. “What happen to Huey was beyond any of our control. That fact that you were willing to save him show how much you care for our brother. Honestly Dew, if you didn’t try and save him, who knows what would have happened to him”.

The thought of losing Huey sent a shiver down their spines. Neither boy wanted to think of that what-if. “You positive Louie?” Dewey asked his little brother. “Never been more positive of anything in my life and that is saying something”. That got a laugh out of Dewey and Louie just smile, happy to bring some comfort to his older brother.

The doctor soon came in and told the family that Huey was fine. Both of his legs were mildly fractured and they had to perform surgery on them, but that was the only injuries that he sustained, which was a relief to every in the room, especially to Dewey and Louie.

The doctor brought them back to Huey’s room, where he instructed them that Huey was resting from the surgery but that he should be alert, which meant that it was ok to visit him. The adults decided to let the kids see Huey first, to which Louie was thankful for. After knocking on the door and hearing a ‘Come in’ from the other side, the kids slowly walked into Huey’s room.

Huey was in a red hospital gown and both of his legs were wrapped up in casts. Louie was glad that Huey was ok but one look at Dewey and he realized that his other brother was caught in a mix of relief and utter sadness.

Before anyone could stop him, Dewey made his way over to Huey’s bed and climbed on to the bed, being mindful of Huey’s injuries before throwing his arms around his brother’s neck, spilling out apologies and crying into his shoulder.

Huey returned the hug and assured Dewey that it was not his fault and that he didn’t blame him for not catching him in time. Dewey just cried harder at that and Huey just hug his brother even tighter.

Huey motioned for Louie to come over and Louie didn’t hesitate to climb up on Huey’s other side. Huey pulled him into the hug and Louie melted into it, reaching out a hand to gently stroked Dewey’s back while Huey stroked both of his little brothers’ hair feathers.

Webby pulled up a chair beside Dewey and also began to comfort him and Huey stopped stroking Dewey’s hair feathers in order to reach out a hand towards Webby, letting her know that he appreciated her company and that he didn’t blame her either for what happen.

Nestled together with his siblings and watched over by his uncles and his mother, Louie felt like his heart would burst. After everything that had happen, he nor anybody else could call him the ‘evil triplet’. Louie loved his family with all of his heart and he was thankful everyday for them. If they could survive this, they could survive anything. And no matter what happens from now on, they were going to do it together. They would face each new sun and no longer be afraid of the unknown because they would face it all together and that was something that Louie was totally ok with.

Notes:

And with that, we have reached the last and final story of 'Not the Evil Triplet'. I did not expect for this story to be the longest one of the series but here we are.

This entire series was so much fun to write. The last four episodes of season 2 were great, except for maybe 'The Richest Duck in the World'. However, those episodes left me wanted more, hence why this series was created. I needed more of the Della and Louie content was well as more triplet interaction.

I might tackle another series in the future, but not sure yet as all of my attention is going to be on 'No More Snow'. Also, I subtly left hints in this story for what to expect for Huey and Louie in the upcoming chapters of 'No More Snow'. See if y'all can spot them.

Hope y'all enjoyed this series and if you have any ideas for me to tackle next after I am done with 'No More Snow', please feel free to comment.
