Summary
The sky had been dark when Alexander was captured. The British had surrounded them, the redcoats far outnumbering their own patrol. The scent of smoke had overwhelmed him, sparks flying through the soot-stained air as he brandished his gun, glancing wildly around him.
That was when the shot came.
Or,
Alexander is captured by the British during a battle, he doesn’t exactly expect it to be comfortable. But he couldn’t have prepared himself for this.

“Honestly, Alexander, why would you let yourself get in such a state?” She fussed over him, pulling the coat off and putting it away.
“You come back in the darkest hours of the morning, dripping all over the floors, fighting with your clothes, making such a racket I’m surprised the whole house hasn’t woken up-”
“It’s morning already?” Alexander interrupted in surprise.
“Yes it’s morning, you idiot!” Eliza glared at him, though her eyes betrayed her worry.
“You’re shivering, Alexander.” She noticed.
“Am I?” He glanced down at himself uncertainly.
“I didn’t notice.”Alexander stays in work far too late, as usual. Except this time it's freezing and snowing on his way back, which results in his arrival home in a...worse shape than usual. Eliza honestly deserves an award.

Summary
It is the one day of the month, when Lan Zhan gets to see his mum. This month is different. They are outside. His mother has somehow managed to convince the Lans to allow all three of them, and 12 Lan disciples, to go to the market. 'Like normal children get to do with their mummies and daddies' his mother had said. Of course his daddy isn't here.
Lan Zhan chews on the too sweet strawberry and looks through the crowds. There is a small boy, around his age, sitting on a dirty blanket on edge of the street. No one else seems to notice him, everyone's just passes him by, some of them even step on the corner of the little blanket. The boy is looking at Lan Zhan. Staring really. Lan Zhan stares back. The boy smiles at him, his smile is warm and friendly, a bit like mum's. He waves at Lan Zhan.
Inspired by the scene in the donghua that seems to suggest Wei Ying and Lan Zhan met as children.
In which Lan Zhan and his mother meet a homeless Wei Ying on the streets and decide to help him find his parents.
