Work Text:
Iruka sighed as he slipped deeper into the warm water of the onsen. The examination period had ended, his horrible ordeal with “the club” was over, and he had no reason to be dieting or overworking himself.
The break period was turning out splendidly.
“YAHOO!!” A splash and bright yellow hair reminded Iruka that he would never have a relaxing day in his life with Naruto involved. “Sensei! You really like onsen right? You should go to the land of hot water! Pervy-sensei and I went there and the baths are SO GOOD!”
Iruka sighed as he avoided breathing in the tsunami of hot water that Naruto just created.
“The perv was never really enjoying it though. He was always trying to peep,” Naruto crossed his arms and looked very disappointed and disapproving. Iruka decided not to yell at him for jumping in and ruining his relaxation. At least the boy wasn’t a pervert and knew good manners.
“That’s gross,” Iruka responded.
“I know right?! Imagine someone trying to peep on you!?” Naruto’s empathy was legendary and it made Iruka’s heart lighter. Where in the world had this orphaned boy learned to be so caring and to think of others?
Iruka also tried not to think of his most recent stalking situation when Naruto mentioned peeping. It was a good thing the young man was being sent on so many missions and was away for most of it.
“How troublesome.”
Iruka perked up at the familiar voice.
“Shikamaru-kun?” Iruka almost smacked himself in the face. Shikamaru was a chuunin now and should be held to a higher respect level. His pride at having been his teacher once and his embarrassment were fighting one another for dominance.
“Iruka-sensei,” Shikamaru bowed slightly as he got into the pool. “At least someone here will have some sense.”
Iruka laughed a little as Naruto pouted and said, “Whas that supposeta mean?”
Asuma came in right behind his former student. He didn’t say anything, but his nod was friendly and he, for once, wasn’t smoking.
“Sakura-chan was looking for you, Iruka-sensei… Something about the baseball game, troublesome event,” Shikamaru said as he relaxed into the warm water.
“Baseball?” Iruka asked with a tilt to his head.
“No, you aren’t supposed to tell him anything. We don’t want the competition,” Asuma smiled as he peeked out from behind his lashes at Iruka.
“Competition?” Iruka questioned again, but was ignored.
“Well, I’m still a chuunin, so I think I should be recruiting the best, even though I’d rather not bother.”
“Baseball?!!” Naruto exploded. “I’m good at baseball!!”
Shikamaru looked troubled for a moment before he responded to his friend. “Oh… It’s chuunin vs jounin, and you are just a genin, Naruto…”
Naruto’s face was devastated and it equally amused and pained Iruka. The boy couldn’t help that he had been out for three years training with a senin. That should count for something. But then again, he wasn’t sure Naruto was ready for the responsibilities of a chuunin.
“What do you say, Iruka-sensei?” Shikamaru finally prodded him. “The jounin will think twice about an easy victory if you are on the opposite side.”
Iruka blushed at the complement. “I will think about it. Thank you, Shikamaru-san.” It tasted weird in his mouth to address the lazy youth, but it also felt so right when Shikamaru sat up a little straighter and blushed himself. He smiled and made to get out of the pool.
He stood up and the water cascaded down his rippling muscles.
Since he was not under any strict diet, he had bulked back up a bit and was not only caked in muscles, but also had a delectable icing of fat adding to his overall scale.
Naruto, who had seen him like this before barely gave him a passing wave as he sulked over his genin status. Shikamaru and Asuma, however, gawked. They knew he was built from the muscle-man competition, but Anko had him on a strict diet then. He was more lean then. Now he was thick as molasses.
The moment he was out of ear-shot Asuma let out a long whistle. “That’s one beefy sensei…”
“Worried?” Shikamaru teased as he sunk back into the water, processing what he just saw.
Asuma smirked, but wished he had a cigarette. “Honestly, a little… Who knew Iruka had that…”
They fell into silence after that, clearly all contemplating their own workout routines.
—
“You’re going to play?!” Anko whined.
Iruka knew then that his decision to play was final. If Anko didn’t want him in, then he had to do it.
“Yes. Shikamaru just informed me.”
Anko cursed the boy under her breath. “Fine. At least the outfits are loose…” But it wasn’t the look of Iruka’s physique that had her worried. She knew he was strong too. Hell, she had been head of his workout routine not a month ago.
“What are we doing?” Kakashi asked as he slipped into the conversation. It was toward the end of Iruka’s shift at the mission desk and Anko was the last in his line.
“I’m going to be on the team,” Iruka replied easily.
It took a nanosecond for Kakashi to put it all together. He deflated. “Oh. That’d be the jounin vs chuunin game? Guess I can’t tease you in the dugout, eh?”
Iruka smiled at his boyfriend. It still felt amazing to even think the word, even though it had been weeks since they turned more serious.
He was clearly still in the puppy-love phase.
“Don’t worry Kakashi, he will be in those loose baseball pants and shirt. No one will come oogling.” Anko said as she turned to walk away.
Kakashi cocked his head to the side and imagined Iruka in those baseball pants. He felt himself heat up with desire. No, being loose did NOT mean Iruka wouldn’t be irresistible.
“I was going to play too,” Kakashi said to Anko’s retreating back.
“Really?” Iruka asked.
Kakashi turned to look at his boyfriend, just thinking the word gave him goosebumps, and smiled. “Yes, I heard that there will be an incredibly hunky player on the other team. I’m all about rivals to lovers.”
Iruka laughed and Kakashi felt sick with his affection for the man.
“Really? I guess I’ll have to give you a challenge than, eh?” Iruka teased while also packing up his bag to go.
Kakashi easily stepped into stride with Iruka and they walked out of the mission room practically glued to one another’s side.
“I always liked playing baseball,” Iruka said suddenly and Kakashi had to shake the image of Iruka slowly unbuttoning his jersey out of his perverted head.
“Really? Did you play often?” Kakashi asked on autopilot.
“Yeah, I was always picked to be on a team before I became a genin and didn’t have time for games anymore. I hope I still remember all the rules!” Iruka suddenly looked nervous.
“We can study together,” Kakashi suggested, knowing full well that if they were left alone in a room, there would be no studying going on.
“That sounds perfect. My place tomorrow at 8?”
Kakashi nodded and disappeared, it gave him about 30 hours to finish the stupid mission Tsunade had given him just minutes before. For Iruka, he would do it in 20.
—
“Batter up!” Tsunade was umpire and everyone could see how frustrated she was getting.
The game had started as usual, jounin acting like it would be a cake-walk, chuunin pissed and gearing to prove themselves.
That was, until Iruka walked onto the field. To say he filled out his uniform well was an understatement. The loose clothes, well loose on anyone else, were filled in in all the right places on Iruka. It was like an expert seamstress had tailored the clothes to hug him in every nook and cranny.
He walked up to the plate and every pair of eyes (and single eye in Kakashi’s case) was on him. Or, more accurately, on one particular part of him. He squatted and bent into batting position and Kakashi nearly dropped the ball.
Kakashi was the relief pitcher, since Asuma, their star, needed a short break. It was the bottom of the fifth and the jounin were up 3 to 1, so it was the perfect time to sub in Kakashi. Gai was catcher and he signaled something to Kakashi, pointing his index finger down, then to the side, then down again.
Kakashi didn’t know what that meant. He had not studied the jounin notes, but it didn’t matter anyway, he barely noticed Gai moving at all as Iruka wiggled in his position. Clearly ready for the pitch.
Kakashi will claim in the coming days, weeks, months, and years, that he blanked out and has no recollection of what happened next. No one will believe him.
The ball left Kakashi’s hand. Kakashi, expert jounin, with 100% accuracy with a kunai. Yes, that Kakashi felt the ball leave his hand perfectly. It was aimed straight and true, right for where he was focused. Namely, Iruka’s firm, perfect ass.
Everyone in the vicinity knew where that ball was heading. They could calculate a trajectory within milliseconds. Iruka also knew, though the disbelief on his perfect face caused him to not move away in time.
Instead, he jutted out his hips, bending sticking out his ass even more than before, and deflected the ball towards the safety of the fence behind him.
There was not a dry nose in the place, as everyone lost too much of their life-giving blood. Everyone’s jaws dropped. Some because they couldn’t believe the precision with which Iruka deflected the ball away from the field, others because they had just witnessed the most perfect jiggle of the most perfect glut in Konoha, and others still for the audacity of Kakashi, to throw a ball at his partner just to watch that perfect jiggle.
It was dead silent in the field.
Then Tsunade yelled, “hit-by-pitch, Iruka on first!” and everyone shook themselves from the mental play-back of that moment.
Kakashi will regret for the rest of his life that he didn’t have his sharingan open, watching. Especially since Iruka was giving him a look of pure vexation.
Iruka started to limp slightly towards base, and Kakashi couldn’t stand it a moment longer.
“Iruka’s hurt, I’ll help him.” Not a moment later, Kakashi was at Iruka’s side, batting away Gai’s attempts to help, and body-flickered them away.
Tsunade sighed helplessly, massaging her temple. “Izumo, replace Iruka on first. Asuma, you’re back on mound.”
The men leapt into position and she ignored her rogue ninja. She didn’t blame Kakashi one bit. She was front row and center to that bounce and by god if she didn’t also have a dribble of blood smeared on her upper lip.
—
“Kakashi, what the hell?” Iruka wiggled out of Kakashi’s grasp as soon as they were in his apartment. The moment his feet hit the ground without Kakashi’s support, though, he winced.
Kakashi sprung into action, “I’m so sorry!” He said as he helped Iruka to the bedroom and laid him down on his stomach. Kakashi had to actively stop himself from looking at that bubble butt as Iruka shifted into a more comfortable position.
“Damn that stings, Kakashi…” Iruka sucked breath in through his teeth and Kakashi moved without thinking. He gripped Iruka’s hips and pinned him still.
“I’ll heal you!” Kakashi added, blush blooming on his face.
Iruka looked over at his boyfriend, eyebrow cocked. “You don’t… normally heal, though, do you?”
“I can,” Kakashi countered before realizing his mistake. It meant he would have to touch Iruka’s butt. He wasn’t very good at healing, and he had to get very close to the tissue to have any effect. That meant… basically massaging Iruka’s cheek.
Suddenly the room felt very hot and stifling. Kakashi pulled his mask down and took a deep breath.
Iruka gasped, “Kakashi are you alright?!”
Kakashi blinked his eye back open again. “What?”
“You’ve got blood all over you!” Iruka looked concerned, but his attempts at turning to get closer to his boyfriend failed, as Kakashi was still holding down his hips.
Kakashi brought his fingertips to his nose and felt the drying blood. “Oh… that’s from… before.”
“Before? During the game? What happened! I didn’t notice you get hit,” Iruka looked concerned and Kakashi’s heart burst. How could someone so hot be so ignorant?
“It was… you ass?” Kakashi admitted. He didn’t want to lie, and the situation was beyond repair anyway.
“My ass hit you in the face?” Iruka asked, before, just a moment later, realization hit him instead. “Oh…”
Kakashi nodded. “It just… jiggled so…” Kakashi had to stop himself before he started to bleed all over again.
Iruka blushed so deeply that Kakashi could see it on the back of his neck as he buried his head in his arms. “Oh my god. And everyone saw it?” He asked from his arm-nest.
“Yeah…” Kakashi said quietly.
“How could you do this to me, Kakashi?!” Iruka yelled, even though it was muffled by the cocoon.
“I’ll make it up to you! Let me heal you and then I’ll massage you… It’ll be fine…” Kakashi knew that people would be talking about this incident for the whole year. He knew he would never forget it, but he didn’t need Iruka knowing that. The man had been through enough.
Iruka peeked out from near his elbow. “Heal first and then a full body massage. Every week for a month.”
Kakashi wasn’t sure if that was punishment or reward, but he nodded either way. Iruka smiled up at him, blushing slightly, and Kakashi nearly suffered a heart attack. “Okay, I forgive you then… besides, it’s not like anyone recorded it.”
Neither one could recall who was angry at who or why for the rest of the day.
Kakashi really did have skilled hands.
—
Moegi blushed.
“And you see how he deflected it?! Amazing.” Konohamaru laughed, hovering over his camcorder with his two friends, Moegi and Udon.
“Wow,” Udon said, sniffling on his chronically running nose.
Moegi remained silent.
“What are you doing?” Iruka asked suddenly from behind the trio.
Konohamaru snapped his camcorder closed and poorly tried to hide it behind him as he spun quickly to face his old sensei.
“IRUKA-SENSEI! Nothing!”
Iruka lifted a curious eyebrow, but didn’t respond. He waited them out. Konohamaru hated silence after all.
Surprisingly it was Moegi who gave it away. Her eyes, despite her best efforts, trailed down to Iruka’s behind. He was bent slightly to be on more eye-level with the trio. He now regretted it.
“It’s just the game, Sensei. No… nothing else…” Konohamaru said nervously.
“The WHAT?!” Iruka tried to grab the new fangled contraption and failed miserably. The three hightailed it away before he could get them to delete the video.
Iruka turned murderous. Those within a few meters radius ran off.
“KAKASHI!!!!” Iruka bellowed and everyone in Konoha felt terribly for the Copy-nin.
