Chapter Text
Sunako hates light, that was a fact, but to say she's gotten a little too soft on the four boys she lives with would be an understatement. Yuki regularly suggests having a movie night with everyone. Sunako likes movies and they allow her to turn the lights off and sit close enough to the screen that she can't see any of them, so she agrees.
Noi will consistently give Sunako trinkets and love notes to pass to Takenaga when she has the chance. It doesn't bother Sunako as much as it used to and when she sees the flustered look on Takenaga's face, she feels happy for them.
Ranmaru, being the playboy he is, will constantly get himself into trouble with girls and when these situations happen, he often finds himself sitting in the kitchen while Sunako cooks to have someone to vent to. It usually ends up sounding like a soap opera and Ranmaru doesn't insist on her feedback, so she welcomes the entertainment.
Kyouhei though, Kyouhei will always be a source of headache for Sunako. He barges into her room during her alone time and demands she cook for him. He's a slob that leaves his stuff everywhere and is constantly getting himself into trouble that Sunako has to rescue him from.
"Why can't you take care of yourself for one moment?" Sunako found herself yelling, once again at the target of her aggression.
"I had it under control!"
"If I hadn't been there, you would have been sold, do you realize that?!"
"If it bothers you so much then next time don't save me!"
"Maybe I won't!"
"Fine, see if I care, I don't need you anyway!"
She went silent. She saved him. They fought side by side every chance they got. They make a great team, even Sunako can admit to that. Kyouhei is tough and so is she, but her skin isn't as thick.
"Kyouhei don't be so mean, Sunako was really worried about you!" Yuki chimed in. He always gets upset when the two of them fight.
"Can't you at least thank her before the two of you start screaming at each other?" Ranmaru sighed.
"She started it!" Kyouhei pointed his finger at Sunako, but she didn't react. He was waiting for her to yell. To come at him with a butcher knife. To do something drastic that ended up with them throwing fists until they were too tired to move, but it didn't come. He finally looked at her and they shared the same shocked expression as they realized she had tears streaming down her face.
"Hey..." Kyouhei's once accusing finger turned into an outstretched hand as he went to walk towards her, but she shot him glare not even death could muster.
"Rot in hell." Sunako turned away and ran towards her sanctuary seeking the condolences of Hiroshi, Josephine, and Akira. She didn't know why she was crying. Yeah, she was in a lot of pain, but Sunako was tough, the words of others didn't hurt her because she didn't let them. Today though, for some reason, it was all too much. So many times, they worked as a team to overcome their situation. She hasn't felt like this in so long, it scared her.
That night she shut herself in not coming out to even cook dinner. Yuki came to her door to deliver some store-bought food, and apologize on behalf of Kyouhei, but Sunako could only muster a quiet thank you before she slowly shut the door in his face.
"Kyouhei this is all your fault! Sunako hasn't shut herself in like this in months and now look at her!"
"What did I do?" The blond retorted.
"You made her sad" Ranmaru yelled at his ever-oblivious housemate, "we all saw the tears don't even think about denying it."
"Now that I think about it," Takenaga butt in, "I don't think we've ever seen Sunako cry about something that wasn't related to horror."
"She's got thicker skin than you guys give her credit for" the guilty party pleaded, " she probably just realized she forgot to pre-order the new horror massacre movie and now it's sold out, she'll get over it soon."
"Kyouhei, I think you really upset her" Yuki tried once again.
"Like I said she'll be fine, leave me alone!" The blond stormed off to his room leaving his three housemates to their own devices.
"Did he really make her that sad though?" Takenaga tried to think of anything they missed.
"It had to be right," Yuki asked, "it happened right after he said he didn't need her."
"Why don't we ask Sunako?" Ranmaru suggested.
"We could," Takenaga replied, "but she's probably in bigger denial than he is."
Sunako had been watching her horror films all day but much to her dismay nothing has been able to distract her. The words Kyouhei said were on repeat in her head "I don't need you anyways." She groaned and fell backwards onto the floor. Which caused a pain to shoot up her body and she winced. Why did she feel weird when he said that? Why did her stomach hurt so bad? Why did tears start running from her cheeks? She rolled on her side and curled up into a ball. She was looking at the toes of Hiroshi and glanced up to meet his eyes.
"Hiroshi help," She almost wined, "why does it hurt so bad?” As she closed her eyes to hear his answer, she heard loud footsteps coming closer to her door.
'No. No, I don't want to see you. I can't look at you right now. I can't see your face cause if I do I think I might just keel over and die' Sunako thought to herself as the footsteps approached. They continued to grow louder as she squeezed her eyes tighter hoping if she didn't see what was about to happen it didn't have to be real.
But the footsteps continued. Her door never opened. There wasn't even a knock.
She breathed out a sigh of relief, but she needed help, and Hiroshi didn't know the first thing about butterflies in the stomach. Trust her, she checked.
After the pain subsided Sunako got to her feet and peeked outside the door to her room; just briefly sees a mound of blond hair turn the corner. Quickly and quietly, she snuck in the other direction toward the group of boys that were previously left behind. She can hear them talking about something from the other side of the room. Something about her being sad. She didn't think she was sad. She was sad when Hiroshi was taken from her. She was sad when Auntie couldn't see her for who she was, but to be sad about being not needed? It didn't make sense.
"I think I might be sick." She called out to them ignoring their conversation, and almost immediately they were around her asking her questions.
What's wrong? Where does it hurt? Do you need to go to the doctor?
Sunako shook her head as another pain entered her abdomen. She clenched her eyes shut again trying to work through the pain as the boys stood over her worried.
"I'll go grab Kyouhei," Takenaga announced, “he can help carry you to the hospital!" Sunako grabbed his arm and shook her head violently.
"Sunako, Kyouhei's gonna worry if he realizes your hurt!" Yuki tries to persuade her, but she shakes her head even more violently. She doesn't want to see him. The last thing she wants to do is see his face. Another sharp pain enters her side, and she falls to her knees in pain. Ranmaru quickly called Oji-sama and she had a car at the front entrance in less than 3 seconds. All three boys tried their best to help her into the car and filed in to be shuttled to the hospital.
"I'll call Kyouhei to make sure he doesn't worry!" Takenaga tried to convince Sunako, but she refuses. When he pulled out his phone, she tried to reach over and grab it from him but ended up collapsing with her head resting on his shoulder. His hand gently rubbed her back as she fought through the pain. She slowly relaxes into his touch and allows him to pat her head as she leans on his shoulder. Not wanting to break the moment but still bewildered by the docility Sunako is showing Takenaga's eyes widen at the other two in the car. They look at each other worried. Is Sunako dying?
The moment they reach the hospital the two boys who were not helping Sunako walk in rushed over to the desk demanding to be seen. The nurse at the front desk seemed bewildered by the situation while also entranced by the beautiful men in front of her. She pushes them to the front of the order and Sunako is hustled back to a room in no time. The three boys finally take a second to sit.
"Is Sunako going to be okay?" Yuki asked genuinely worried for their, what seemed like, invincible friend.
"She'll be okay Yuki" Takenaga assured. Finally, Ranmaru pulled out his phone, "I'm calling Kyouhei, he at least needs to know where we are."
"I don't know Ranmaru, Sunako really seemed to not want him to know." Yuki protested. As they were discussion the topic Ranmaru's phone started ringing. The three boys jumped and Ranmaru slowly answered with "Hello?"
"Where the hell are you?!" Kyouhei yelled from the other side of the phone, "I tried to call Takenaga, but he wouldn't answer!"
"We're," Ranmaru hesitated as he looked over at Yuki who was begging him to lie, "we felt bad for Sunako, so we went to get her ice cream." He stated.
"Ha?" Kyouhei didn't seem fully convinced of their lie, but he's never been one to think too much about his roommates’ actions, "fine just get me something while you're out!" And with a slam the call ended.
"Broken ribs?!?" The three boys shouted in unison looking down at the almost pouting Sunako.
"Sunako did Kyouhei..." Yuki didn't want to finish his sentence.
"Don’t be ridiculous!" She shouted with instant regret. Not only does yelling strain her injury, but she also didn't want to talk about him, "we were fighting off his kidnappers and one of them had a bat..." She whispered hoping they wouldn't hear. The boys care for her, she knows this, so they often scold her when she gets hurt. But they didn't yell.
"Sunako," Takenaga sighed as he sat down next to her in the hospital bed, “I wish you would have told us about this earlier."
"I would have, but then we started fighting and... And..." She trailed off.
"Wait, Sunako were you crying cause your ribs hurt?" Yuki asked.
Sunako thought. She though back to the moment Kyouhei said those words, "I don't need you anyways." She went to yell back. She inhaled sharply to retaliate and then the pain set in. The adrenaline had worn off.
"That's it!" Sunako declared happily. For a moment she thought she was upset with what he said to her, but that couldn’t be true. She doesn't get hurt by stuff like that easily. Yeah. It was 100% due to the pain. She giggles to herself as the boys looked at her in worry.
"Is that really it?" Yuki asked.
"Might as well let it be." Takenaga stated.
"I'll call Kyouhei and tell him" Ranmaru sighed.
"She what?!" Kyouhei yelled over the line.
"She has three fractured ribs why didn't you tell us they had a bat?"
"Ugh, that girl I swear!" Ranmaru was shocked.
"Kyouhei how could you, she's hurt and you're still mad at her? I know she was acting weird but..." He was cut off.
"She knows I got hit too. She was keeping your guys worry all to herself!" Shocked Ranmaru turned back to the girl.
"Sunako, you knew Kyouhei was hurt too?" The girl in question knocked her head while sticking out her tongue and winking.
"Whoops, must have forgotten."
They could still hear Kyouhei still screaming over the phone.
