Yellow

Summary:

Sora hesitates before her first fashion show.

Notes:

Prompt: “Yellow-bellied.” This phrase means cowardly, but what is it that your character lacks the courage to face today? (200 words).

Work Text:

Yamato’s breath caught when he stepped into the room, seeing Sora stand before him in a light-blue kimono, her red hair neat and tied up with elegance. She looked beautiful, even with the frightened look about her face.

“Do you really think I can do this, Yamato?” she said. “Because I don’t.”

“Hey, hey…” Yamato approached her and held her hands. “What is it?”

“I’m so used to showing off my skills in sports, like knowing how to use my feet to kick a soccer ball toward the goal, or knowing how to swing the tennis racket to my advantage. But I’m about to show off my first kimono designs and I… I guess I’m just nervous, that’s all.”

“You’re skilled in everything you do, Sora,” Yamato said, squeezing her hands in his. “This fashion show is happening because of you. You designed those kimonos that you and the other models are going to walk with. There’s plenty of skills to talk about in that. And I don’t know fashion like you do, but I do know that I’m not going to play a song in front of a crowd if I don’t want them to hear it.”

“Yamato…” Sora smiled and let go of his hands to place hers on either side of his cheeks.

“It’s okay to be nervous. Just remember that you’re Sora. You can do anything.”

Sora took a deep breath. “Okay. I think I can do this.”

“Good,” Yamato said with a smile.

Then, Sora leaned forward to kiss him, and Yamato knew that her confidence had returned. “Thank you, Yamato.”
