Chapter Text
Akgana glanced at the chrono as she awoke. Right on time—it had been 3 hours since Dayna woke up her and Arcann.
At 6 months old, Dayna was a very energetic baby. It always took at least an hour for her to fall asleep, and it only took 3 hours until she woke back up, either hungry or ready to babble away.
As she rubbed her eyes, Akgana noticed that Arcann was not currently in bed and had already gotten up to check on Dayna. She could hear his low, soothing voice coming from Dayna’s nursery in the next room. She got up to accompany him. Her steps stopped right before the door when she heard that his voice had a melodic tone.
Arcann was singing a lullaby. A Zakuulan ballad about the Goddess Scyva wishing warmth upon her lost son Nahut.
Akgana closed her eyes to listen more deeply. His soulful, rumbling timbre relaxed her infinitely, so much so that she could have fallen asleep standing. Like his mother, Arcann possessed a singing voice that was a wonder to behold. But she had only ever heard him sing once. Despite his gift, he was not one for singing.
How magnificent that his precious little girl could bring about his rare song! Akgana went back to bed, not wanting to interrupt a precious moment between father and daughter. Mother and daughter soon both found rest within Arcann’s lullaby.
