Work Text:

"You have 10 missed calls and 1 new message"

Ten missed calls.

All from Greg.

He had only left one voice mail on the last call.

Mycroft looked at his phone a few times, a little puzzled.

If it had been urgent, Mycroft would have known one way or another.

But Greg had called him ten times.

Once a day.

Ten days, the duration of Mycroft's mission.

Mycroft dialed the code to listen to Greg's message.

"Hey Mycroft, it's me Greg. Yeah of course it's me."

Mycroft could not hold back a little smile.

"You must be wondering why all these missed calls huh? When I know for a fact that you can't answer that number when you're on a mission. But here you are, today you've been gone for ten days. I've been calling you every day, just because I miss your voice, because I miss hearing you talk. And now you must think I'm an idiot, right?"

Mycroft actually found it rather charming.

Someone missed him so much. Someone would call his phone once a day, just to hear the sound of his voice. It was more flattering than stupid, especially since it was the man who loved him.

Greg's voice continued.

"And today, while you' re going to be back in a few hours, I wanted to tell you again that more than your voice, I just really miss talking to you. About everything. About my day at work. About your brother's latest antics. About the latest Arsenal score. About the last book you read. About what I'm going to cook in the evening. About who's going to cook at night. About everything from nothing. The silence is killing me. (sigh) I stop before I get dramatic. I just miss you. Come home soon. I love you."

Mycroft hadn't felt like making fun of Greg before and he felt even less like it now.

He held back from telling the driver to drive even faster.

To tell Greg in person that he had missed his voice.

That he missed talking to him.

That he missed his smile.

That he missed everything that made their daily life now.

That he missed Greg.

Mycroft was in such a hurry that he had to go over it three times before he could put the key in the lock.

It was late, so he tried not to make any noise in case Greg was asleep.

He saw that light was coming from the living room door and, barely taking the time to put down his suitcase and coat, he went in.

He couldn't help but smile fondly at the sight of Greg asleep on the couch, the remote control threatening to fall from his hand.

He approached, knelt down at the level of his head and gently took the remote control out of his hand.

He gently ran his hand over Greg's cheek as he woke up.

"Hey Mycroft," his voice was still sleepy, "welcome home."

Mycroft leaned over and kissed him lightly. When he moved back, Greg rubbed his eyes and sat up so that Mycroft could sit next to him.

Once he was settled, Mycroft put his arm around his shoulder and Greg laid his head against his neck. He murmured softly, "I've missed this too. I've missed you. So much"

Mycroft hummed, kissed Greg's hair and replied, "I know. Because I missed you just as much."

They stayed for long minutes like that, in each other's arms, savoring the happiness of reunion.

They would have time to talk.

Later on.

For now, they had said the essential.
