Work Text:
Mycroft opened the door to their balcony and found Greg there, leaning against the wall, his face lit only by the glow of his cigarette. His eyes closed, he exhaled for a long moment, the smoke looping in front of him.
Mycroft wasn't surprised, he knew this habit of Greg's.
They had the same one.
After hearing about the hostage situation and that Greg had to kill the perpetrator, he knew exactly where he would find Greg.
Greg still bore some traces, a few scratches on his face and a bandage on his cheek.
Mycroft swallowed as he thought of the danger he had been in and caught himself exhaling at the same time as Greg to expel the images of Greg risking his life.
"How did you find me?" Greg asked quietly after a few minutes as he crushed his cigarette in the ashtray next to him.
"I know this is where you come from after a tough mission."
Greg turned his head towards him and asked curtly, "And why did you come?"
Mycroft looked at him for a few moments, he knew Greg's attitude was purely defensive, so he didn't take offense at his tone of voice.
"To support you, to help you, whatever you need."
He slowly reached out his arm towards him, trying to touch his cheek, gently. But before he could touch it, Greg took a step back, "Don't try to fix me, I'm not broken, I'm not made of porcelain. I'm not one of your cases that you can magically solve."
Mycroft wasn't put off by the tone, nor the words because everything in Greg's eyes told him otherwise.
Help me.
Then Mycroft slowly moved forward and went to stand next to him against the wall. He just took Greg's hand and after a few seconds, Greg's slightly trembling fingers intertwined with his.
He felt Greg breathe out at length beside him and did nothing but hold his hand.
After a moment, Greg's head leaned on his shoulder as he whispered, "I'm sorry..."
Mycroft replied softly, "There's nothing to forgive."
Without letting go of Mycroft's hand, Greg turned to him and said softly, "I... I don't want to talk about it. Not right now. Will you... will you kiss me... just to make me forget for a moment?"
Mycroft didn't answer and taking Greg's head in his hands, he leaned over him and pressed his lips onto his.
The kiss was incredibly sweet, caring and passionate.
Greg brought his hands up to entangle his fingers in Mycroft's hair. All he wanted to do was get lost in that kiss. Mycroft was so tender and Greg just wanted to wrap himself in that tenderness. He pulled him closer until there was nothing between them and he ran his hands down Mycroft's back, clinging to him.
Sensing his urgency, Mycroft pulled back a little and whispered against Greg's lips, "Let Go Greg, I'll catch you."
Mycroft's words seemed to break something in Greg and he felt the tears welling up. He didn't try to stop them as Mycroft wrapped his arms around him.
Greg buried his face in Mycroft's neck as his tears continued to flow. Mycroft said nothing, simply continuing to hold Greg and kiss his hair from time to time.
They stayed like that, until Greg's tears dried up and Mycroft felt him loosen up against him.
"Do you feel better?" he asked him softly.
Greg looked up and with a shaky smile, he answered Mycroft with a kiss.
He was feeling better and it was because of Mycroft who understood him better than anyone.
Mycroft who allowed him to be himself.
Mycroft who accepted everything, even the bad days like today.
Mycroft with whom he did not have to hide his tears.
When he pulled back to catch his breath, he whispered against Mycroft's lips, "Tell me tomorrow will be better."
Mycroft wiped away one last tear that had escaped and kissed him before hugging him again.
"I promise you, Greg tomorrow will be better."
And Greg believed him.
