Work Text:
Mycroft sighed. It had been a long day, even from the point of view of someone who is used to endless workdays and overtime.
That evening he left his office in a hurry, eager to get home and relax.
Usually when he came home, he was able to relax right away as soon as he put his things down in the hallway, but tonight was not the case.
The day had been so intense, the negotiations endless and had come to nothing and he had a feeling of unfinished business. He hated it. He thought maybe it would just take a little longer so he headed to the mini bar to prepare himself something strong.
Moments later, he was sitting in his armchair with a glass of scotch in his hand, hoping that the burn of the strong alcohol would take effect and help him unwind.
But it wasn't working.
He heard the door open and moments later Greg called, "Mycroft?"
"In the living room."
He heard Greg approach, felt two hands on his shoulders and Greg pressed a kiss to the top of his head before standing before him.
"Rough day?" asked Greg, pointing to the glass in Mycroft's hand.
"That's a major understatement," Mycroft said as he put down his drink before standing up.
Greg stepped forward to take him in his arms and Mycroft, exhausted, let himself do so, letting his forehead fall against Greg's shoulder.
Greg tightened his arms around him and Mycroft knew at that moment that this was what he had missed to ease himself. For the first time since he had come home, Mycroft felt the tension drain from his body.
No amount of alcohol could give him what Greg was giving him. Mycroft wondered how he did it before Greg.
After a few moments when he straightened up, Greg raised a questioning eyebrow.
Mycroft said softly, "You know, there is one thing you can do for me. To make me completely forget this dreadful day."
"What?" asked Greg with a puzzled look. "Tell me and if it's within my ability, I'll do it."
"Oh, it's well within your capabilities my darling, because you do it all the time. The only thing you have to do is smile at me. Just smile. I really need you to smile right now."
Greg looked surprised then obeyed and smiled softly.
Mycroft raised his hand and ran his thumb over Greg's lips, then whispered softly, "That smile. Your smile Greg always manages to make me feel better."
Greg's smile widened and Mycroft leaned in to kiss the still smiling lips, letting the last remnants of the strain of his day evaporate.
