Chapter 1: A second chance
Summary:
It looks like someone did hear Gaster's plea after all, and I wonder who this mysterious stranger is and how they managed to open the portal to gain access to the Void? How curious
Chapter Text
It's been too long since Gaster was in the void; all he can remember is that 1-S pushed him to his death, although the former royal scientist can't blame him for his actions; he caused them pain and suffering. Now he is the one who's suffering. The skeleton begged and pleaded with the anomaly to let him die. Still, it laughed and told the poor fool it was far too late that he brought this upon himself and that he deserved to be forgotten by everyone.
As it finished throwing him around like a broken rag doll, Gaster slowly crawled back to his lonely spot and lay there bleeding as he suffered numerous broken bones and a cracked skull. It's a miracle that he's still alive. Gaster doesn't understand why the anomaly just finished him off; he guesses it wants to torture him more. So the old skeleton waited for it to return, but it never did. He was alone at that point in this cold, cruel nothingness. Gaster closed his eyes, and for the first time in years, he began to sob and scream for someone to hear him and save him from this endless nightmare.
"ALPHYS...ASGORE...ANYONE, PLEASE SAVE ME I-I WANT TO GO HOME!" He screamed in tears as they fell from his boney cheeks.
But nobody came...
Gaster continued to cry till he couldn't cry anymore, so he decided to sleep, hoping someone heard his call, but how could they save a horrible monster like him? As the skeleton drifted off to sleep, he dreamt that he was back at home in his lab, trying to find a way to break the barrier so all monsters could take back the surface from the humans. As Gaster continued to sleep, he began to get a bad feeling that someone was coming back, the anomaly, and they wanted to torture him again. He whimpered and was shaken in fear while whispering to himself that they'd leave him alone. The monster slithered its tentacles, wrapped his legs around, and dangled him upside down.
"N-no, please, I beg of you, leave me alone and let me DIE already!" Gaster cried out as it began to drag him around and throw him down again and again.
A strange portal appeared as it was about to throw the poor skeleton again, and a stranger came toward them. Without a moment to lose, the stranger struck the anomaly with their peculiar magic, which caused it to drop Gaster on the cold hard ground. The monster fled from the scene, leaving him alone once again. As Gaster tried to get up, he fell back to the ground because the poor soul was too weak and injured to try again. The skeleton looked up at the stranger that saved him, and then he lost his conscience. He was tired and weak to grasp what had just happened. Knowing his situation, the stranger looked at him and felt pity, so they got on their knees and began to use healing magic to heal his wounds.
The stranger looked back to ensure the anomaly wouldn't return to seek their vengeance as they were healing him. Then they focused back on Gaster and continued healing him. Gaster regained his consciousness by slowly opening his eye sockets. The surroundings were a bit blurry. Still, he could see what type of stranger saved his life. The stranger wore a cloak with a pin resembling their soul trait. He believes that judging by their color, their soul represents Integrity; as Gaster looked at them, their appearance was old and wrinkly, like a senior elder.
"Who are you?" Knowing this stranger had just saved his life, He weakly asked, "why did you save me? Can't you see I deserve to die?"
The old stranger chuckled a little, tried their best to help him up, and said, "I couldn't let the abomination torture you and just stand there not doing anything."
The former royal scientist was stunned by what this stranger said. Gaster couldn't believe it, someone had heard his plea, and a mere stranger was rescuing him. Gaster was about to say something, but the stranger listened to a distant roar coming from the other side of the void. They knew the anomaly was returning, so the stranger used their magic and opened the portal with no time to lose.
"We must leave quickly. The portal won't be able to stay open for long," the old stranger explained, hurrying the old skeleton to go through the portal.
Gaster nodded and quickly went through the portal as the old stranger followed, then they made it to the outside world, but the sun's brightness was too much as his sockets readjusted themselves. What Gaster saw felt like he was really in a dream. The old skeleton was on the surface for the first time since many years ago during the war with humans as the portal closed behind them. At that moment, Gaster knew today was the day of his second chance in life. The old stranger explained to Dr. Gaster that he would be reborn anew, but to do that, the stranger explained that they would erase his memories.
"Now then," the old stranger finished explaining to him about his chance of redemption, "are you willing to have your memory erased?" The old stranger holding his saved file was fractured and corrupted; for how long he was in the void, Gaster sighed, finally accepting this fate. There's no going back. He must do this to redeem himself.
"Ok, I'm ready."
Chapter Text
*13 years later, location: Ebott Valley Distance: 15 miles from Mt. Ebott*
It was an early morning summer at Jones's farmstead; a young teenager named Frisk Indy Jones was sitting underneath the apple tree enjoying their summer reading. While reading, Frisk heard their mother calling, "Frisk, come inside. Your breakfast is ready!" The human teen got up and walked toward the house as their father set up his gardening tools for early morning picking since today was an annual Fruit Harvest Day at the Ebott Valley Fair.
Their father, Henry Jones, was quite a knowledgeable man since he used to work at Ebott University as an Archaeology professor. Still, Mr. Jones has retired and is spending the rest of his days as a farmer, as Frisk always goes to him for information about the forbidden mountain called Mt. Ebott.
As the human teen went inside the house, heading straight towards the kitchen, Frisk's mother, Susie, was waiting for them as she set their morning breakfast on the kitchen table. "Morning, sweet pea." Their mother spoke in a cheerful mood and used sign language with her child. "Morning, mama." Frisk smiled and used sign language as well to respond. Susie grinned and hugged them tightly, knowing that a strange miracle had blessed her and Henry thirteen years ago, a basket with a beautiful baby on their doorstep since they couldn't have one due to Susie's condition. "I made your favorite breakfast," Susie told Frisk." It's butterscotch cinnamon waffles with strawberry jam." Frisk's eyes light up; hearing that their beloved mother made them their favorite breakfast and a fresh-picked strawberry jam with their waffles is the best part of breakfast.
"Thanks, mom; you're the best," The teen spoke as they sat on the kitchen chair and started eating breakfast. While Frisk was eating, Henry Jones came into the kitchen to clean up his dirty hands at the sink since he had done some early morning picking at the garden before it got too hot. "Morning, deary," Susie greeted her husband with a morning kiss on his bearded cheek. "Morning dad, Did you collect enough strawberries for this year's marketing for the Ebott Valley Fair?" Frisk greeted as well while still eating breakfast.
Henry Jones looks at his wife and child with a smile. "Morning, you two, and no, sadly not this year, I'm afraid," he expressed in disappointment. "But maybe next year, I hope." Susie placed her hands on his shoulder by giving him a reassuring smile. "It's okay, Henry. I'm sure we can improvise by selling mixed berries pies and moon cakes." the woman explained while cheering her husband up, "Besides, there's still plenty of time for the patches of strawberries to be fully ripe for next week's picking."
Henry's face lit up, knowing his wife always had a way of cheering him up and giving him some advice. "You're right, Susie," he agreed to his wife as he sat down on the kitchen stool." I could sell three crates full of the delicious jars of raw honey I have collected from my beekeeping at the other side of our farm." Frisk finished their breakfast and got off the chair, and took their plate to the kitchen sink to be clean. "Finished your breakfast, my child?" Their mother asked as she brought Henry's breakfast and coffee cup to the table. "Cause if you are, brush your teeth because we'll leave soon."
Frisk looked at their parents with a smile as they walked out of the kitchen and headed toward the washroom. As their parents waited for them, Henry had already finished his meals and brought the plates to the kitchen sink as Susie started washing the dishes. "You know, my sweet carrot," Henry spoke as he kissed his wife. "It has been a long time since we went to the Ebott Valley Fair."
"Yes, it has been a while," she replied bitterly. "I hope things won't turn south this time as they did three years ago." Henry knew his wife's meaning as he placed his hands on her shoulder. "It won't, I promise." He gives her a reassuring smile. "I'm sure those folks in town had realized their mistake; if not, that's their problem." Susie sighed for a moment, knowing her husband was right; maybe the folks in town had learned their lesson.
As she was about to speak, she and Henry heard Frisk coming back from the washroom. "Ah, Frisk," Frisk's mother said. "are you all ready to go?" Frisk nodded their head." Yes, mom." They beamed with a determined expression. "I'm all set whenever you guys are, and besides, you're looking at the new scientist in the future." Susie and Henry chuckled with amusement at their child's enthusiasm seeing them full of life and hope. "Well, since you're ready to go, our little scientist." Henry grinned at his child. "Then meet us outside by the old pickup truck, and we'll be there shortly." They nodded and left the house while waiting for their parents.
For a moment, Frisk looked at the mountain as they were still curious about it; something about that mountain seemed unclear to them, but they couldn't put their finger on it. "That mountain, I wonder if the legends are true?" Frisk ponders to themselves, "A world filled with monsters and magic. It sounds like an old fairytale, but why do I have this strange feeling that I must go there?" It didn't take long as their parents came out of the house with several boxes of baked goodies and crates of delicious jars of raw honey. Frisk pitched in to help load the stuff in the back of their father's truck, and then it was time to head out to the fair.
Things went smoothly for the rest of the day as everyone in Ebott Town was having a grand old time at the Ebott Valley Fair. Susie and Frisk were doing their usual routine selling goods to the locals. At the same time, Henry was busy entertaining the children and adults with the ancient stories about Humans and Monsters at Ebott Park. As the days ended, the Jones drove back home to their family farm while Frisk in the truck's back seat was sound asleep after a long tiring day at the fair. Henry carried his sleeping child upstairs to their room as they got home while Susie was behind him. He placed their child down on the bed and tucked them in, and both of them quietly left the room with a smile on their faces.
Later that evening, the human teen woke up from slumber while clenching their chests. They got out of bed and looked out the window as the moonlight shone through the glass window, illuminating the mountain. As they stared at the forbidden mountain, Frisk decided it was time for them to leave the house and go on a journey to Mt. Ebott, so they put on their clothes, grabbed their satchel, and quietly opened their bedroom door.
The thirteen-year-old looked around to ensure their parents were not awake at this hour, and sure enough, it was dead silence, so the coast was clear for them to sneak departure. Quietly they went downstairs and took a short route to the backdoor; as they grabbed the door, Frisk looked back to realize they needed to leave their parents a message to let them know where they were going. So they held a notepad and pencil and wrote a note telling them goodbye and they will come back soon, left it on the kitchen table, and left the house dead of the night.
The farther and farther away they went, pass through the Ebott Forest into the base of Mt. Ebott. Frisk looks back with a determined look on their face as the sunrise begins new dawn and presses forward inside the mountain. Further, the human went until they reached the end of their route. A vast hole blocks their path, which means a dead end, or so they think Frisk takes a deep breath and sighs as they look closer to the hole.
*inhale* *exhale*
"Okay, I'm here, so now what?" Frisk mutters to themselves, "It is a dead-end, right?" They went a little closer for inspection to see if there was any way to go down the hole but discovered they got way too close to the edge and lost their footing in the process.
"Ahhhhh!" Frisk quickly grabbed what looked like an old planted root and was hanging for their dear life.
"H-HELP! MOMMY! DADDY!" Frisk cried out as they were slowly losing their grasp."SOMEONE SAVE ME! I-I DON'T WANT TO DIE!"
*You called for help
Then to their horror, they lost their grip as the planted root snapped, causing them to fall into the darkness of the abyss.
*But nobody came.
As they kept falling, Frisk closed their eyes and let the darkness overcome them, and somewhere deep within their minds; they heard faint voices screaming.
"DR. GASTER!!!"
"NOO!!"
"OH MY GOD!!!"
"WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?!"
"WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?!?!"
Then there was silence. Only a final human fell into the Underground, and their name was Frisk.

Chapter Text
Deep below the caverns, the ancient pillars loom above the fallen child's motionless body as they were unconscious from slipping from a very high cracked ceiling. Luckily the patches of the golden flower saved them from their early grave when a sudden movement came from their body. Frisk slowly regained consciousness as their eyes began to open, but the scenery was a bit blurry to tell where they were. 'Where am I?' Frisk thought as they slowly tried to get up. 'Who's voice was that? Why does it sound familiar to me?' As they got up, their body was sore, and their head throbbed like someone had thrown a brick at them. "Ugh, my head." They murmured under their breath. "What saved me from that fall?"
The human teen looked down and took notice of patches of golden flowers around them. "Interesting, so these golden flowers managed to break my fall," Frisk expressed in amazement. They reached down to the flower and plucked one off the ground, and it was soft to the touch yet looked very familiar to them as they had seen these before, but where? Frisk examined the floor to see if anything fell along with them, and they reached across their satchel and grabbed their book by placing them inside the sachel.
As they grabbed their satchel and book, Frisk looked around their surroundings, awed as if this was a dream. "Is this real?" Frisk asked themselves as they touched the old pillars, "What is this place?" While looking around, the human teen took notice of a corridor that led towards an exit, and they took a deep breath and walked towards the big passageway. Frisk looked back briefly and clutched their chest with guilt and sadness, knowing they probably already made their parents worry.
"I'm so sorry, mom, dad." They quietly whispered. "I have to do this, but I'll come back. You'll see." As Frisk entered the dark passageway, for some odd reason, their shadow altered into something else for a split second, then changed back. When they went through the gate, Frisk noticed a light shining on the lonely patch of grass, and what they saw next was a lonesome golden flower waiting for them.
"Howdy! I'm FLOWEY. FLOWEY the FLOWER." The golden flower introduces himself. Frisk removed their glasses and rubbed their eyes, trying to comprehend what they saw and heard. 'Did my eyes and ears deceive me, or is this odd little flower just talked?' Frisk thought to themselves while they put back on their glasses. 'That's impossible, but yet fascinating.' So the human teen looks closer to inspection by pulling the golden pedals to ensure it is alive.
"OW, HEY! WHAT THE HELL IS YOUR PROBLEM!" Flowey yelped by backing away from the human. "THAT FUCKING HURTS, YOU IDIOT!"
"Oh, s-sorry, I didn't mean to hurt you, little guy" They quickly apologized to the talking flower. "I was surprised that a flower like yourself can talk." Flowey glares at them and keeps a close distance if the human wants to yank his pedals again. After a short moment, Flowey calmed himself down and restarted his introductions. "ahem, let's try this again, shall we?" he chirped even though his attitude seemed too friendly, "Howdy! I'm FLOWEY. FLOWEY the FLOWER." As he takes a good look at the fallen teenager, "Hmmm... You're new to the UNDERGROUND, aren'tcha?"
"Uh, yes?" Frisk raised their eyes as they responded to his question, but something didn't feel right about that flower, so they didn't press on the matter yet.
The golden flower gives them a friendly smile. "Well, Golly, you must be so confused. Someone ought to teach you how things work around here! I guess little old me will have to do." Frisk got a very unsettling feeling about that flower; whatever that feeling was, it was not so pleasant.
"Um, thanks, I guess, but I don't think-" suddenly, they somehow enter a "Fight" with FLOWEY.
"W-what? What's happening?" Their eye widened in shock, and they saw their heart revealing from their chest. The human child was getting nervous and didn't like the situation that they were in, but luckily the flower was "kind" enough to explain. "Well, my new pal, let me explain it to you as nice and friendly as possible," Flowey winks. "See that heart? That is your SOUL, the very culmination of your being!"
"My SOUL?" Frisk said curiously.
*Thump* *thump*
"Yep, Your SOUL starts off weak but can grow strong if you gain a lot of LV," Flowey explains. Something in Frisk's mind told them to FLEE, but they couldn't move. "LV? What does that mean exactly?" They asked the creepy flower as they tried to avoid this conversation. To their surprise, Flowey gives them a demented grin on their face."Why its stand for LEVEL of VIOLENCE, you IDIOT." The flower summons his bullets around them.
"You honestly think I will let you live and waste this perfect opportunity?" Flowey said in a demonic voice. "Because in my world, it's kill or BE killed! NOW DIE! HAHAHAHAHA!!" The flower laughs maniacally.
The human teen stood frozen in fear, unable to speak as they were about to die at any given moment, and one of their eyes somehow glowed purple for a few seconds. Then there were triggered memories flashing before Frisk's eyes where two humans were closing in for their kill with dust all over their bodies. As the bullets were about to harm them, a magical fireball deflected Flowey's attack by shielding them. At that moment, Flowey turns his head and realizes his biggest mistake as he sees a fireball heading toward him, which strikes the creepy flower that sends him flying.
"What a terrible creature, torturing such innocent youth." The strange new monster remarked. Then the large goat-like creature turns her head at the frightened human teen and gives them a warm, welcoming smile. "Ah, do not be afraid, my child," she told them. "I am TORIEL, caretaker of the RUINS. Every day, I pass through this place to see if anyone has fallen down."
Frisk was silent as they were shocked to see another monster in front of them, and they were nervous about making any response, but it was rude not to thank this kind monster for saving their life after all.
"T-thank you, mam, for saving me," Frisk responded by speaking in hand.
"Anytime, my child. You are the first human to come here in a long time."Toriel replied with a smile. They tilled their head with confused expressions. The first human that fell down here? In the Underground? Those questions were swimming around their head. "Now then, since that pesky little creature is dealt with." The goat monster spoke as she held her hands to the human child. "Come! I will guide you through the catacombs."
The teen looked at her hand-like paw, not knowing if they should trust her, but staying here, knowing the golden demon of a flower might come back and kill them for real this time was not an option. So they took Toriel's hand and followed her through the gate into the new hallway with a staircase on both ends leading to another room.
As they continued walking, Frisk noticed a star-like symbol in front of the staircase. 'Uh? what is that, I wonder?' the human pondered to themselves as they walked towards it. 'I don't know why, but someone or something wants me to touch this odd object.' As Frisk touched the glowing object, their SAVE file appeared, and they heard a voice inside their head talking.
*(THE SHADOW OF THE RUIN LOOMS ABOVE…)
*(... FILLING YOU WITH DETERMINATION)
*(HP FULLY RESTORED)
File Saved
"Come along, my child. This is the way out. Your new home awaits you," Toriel beckons to them. Frisk nodded their head and followed the guardian of the Ruins as their grand adventure of the Underground continued. Little does Frisk know that their journey may uncover the untold secrets about who they truly are, and their past forgotten sins loom in the darkness.

(I wonder why the shadow altered for a split second, hmmm very interesting)

Chapter Text
As Frisk and Toriel entered the corridor, they came across the first puzzle room. The room was small, but the human teen could tell that someone had built this place before and recalibrated it to make the puzzles look easier to solve. “Here we are, my child.” Toriel stated as she walked towards the room door, “This old room will be your first lecture on how puzzles work in the RUINS.”
Frisk watched as the kind goat monster stepped on the different row of stumps. Then she flips the switch on the wall, and the door opens to the next puzzle room. “Now, you must understand, innocent one, that here in the RUINS, there are many puzzles.” she explains, “And some puzzles can be dangerous as well.” The teen nodded as they understood fully during her lessons about puzzles around the RUINS. “Now then, let us continue. There are more puzzles that I must show you.” The goat monster said as she left the room.
They looked around the CATACOMB and took notice of a posted sign on the wall. As Frisk took a good look at it and started to read among themselves:
*Only the fearless may proceed.
*Brave ones, foolish ones.
*Both walk not the middle road.
‘ Huh, this riddle...where have I heard this? ’ The human teen was puzzled by this and mulling over in their mind. ‘ I can’t seem to remember...eh, it’s probably my imagination, no need to overthink it. ’ So they press forward to the next room and see Toriel is waiting for them by standing next to the sign. The goat monster smiles as she begins to give them another lesson about puzzles. “Here in this room, you may find puzzles that involve activating switches to continue your journey.” She kindly explains, “But do not worry young one, I have already labeled the ones that need to be activated.” Then she walks away by crossing the bridges and waits for them on the other side of the room.
The young teen continues across the bridge and heads towards the switch with an arrow pointing at it as a clue for them to flip it. “She’s making these puzzles look so easy,” Frisk murmurs and chuckles for amusement, “I guess it’s nice that there are people like her who appreciate puzzles.” Frisk then walks across the bridge again and does the same thing as the first switch, and Toriel seems delighted about it. “Well done, young one!” The goat monster complimented, “You have completed these puzzles in this room.” Frisk was pleased that this kind of goat monster had congratulated them on their achievements in solving her puzzles, giving them a warm fuzzy feeling deep within their SOUL. “You’re too kind, Ms.Toriel.” The human said, looking away. “Your lessons on puzzles are fascinating, I might add.”
The goat monster gently placed her hands on Frisk’s shoulders with a smile that made them feel a little more comfortable around her as they looked back at Toriel and smiled meekly. “I appreciate the compliments, young one,” Toriel said smiling. “Now, let us continue, shall we? There are more things I must teach you.” Frisk nodded as they followed Toriel to the next room, where there was a lonesome old dummy and another existing that could lead to the other room. “As a human living in the UNDERGROUND, monsters may attack you.” She carefully explains to them, “So you must be prepared for this situation.” The teen shutters as they remember that incident with their first encounter with Flowey when that creep attacked them. “So you’re saying all the monsters here are gonna attack me?” Frisk sounded concerned, given that it was more of a statement than a question.
“Do not worry, child,” Toriel said as she tried to reassure them as she noticed how worried they were. “This lesson I’m going to explain is very simple.” The goat monster walked toward the old dummy and stood beside it while she began to explain. “When you encounter a monster, you will enter a FIGHT. And while you are in a FIGHT, strike up a friendly conversation.” Frisk stayed quiet as they weren’t sure if this lesson would work. “If you stall for time,” Toriel explains further, “I will come to resolve the conflict.”
“Just like you did with Flowey, right?” They asked her as the teen walked close to their practice dummy. “Yes, just as I did with Flowey.” She said as Toriel nodded in agreement. “Why don’t you practice talking to this dummy? It will help you in the near future.”
Frisk did as Toriel told them, and their SOUL popped out of their chest. Once again, they heard a voice speaking.
* You encountered the dummy

“Ah, very good!” Toriel smiles in approval. “You are outstanding. Now come, there are still more puzzles to learn.” Then she left through the door that led to the next room, and Frisk followed behind. “There is another puzzle in this room….” She said to them, “I wonder if you can solve it?” They give her a cheeky grin. “With all the lessons you gave me? It’ll be a sinch.” They told her. Toriel gazes at the young thirteen-year-old as she vaguely remembers someone that she once knew had that same pose and enthusiasm for puzzles. “My goodness, little one.” She chuckled. “You seemed eager to solve more puzzles.” Then she turns and beckons them to follow her to the next puzzle, and while they continue, a new monster called Froggit appears and attacks Frisk.
“W-wha? Hey!” Frisk got into a FIGHT with Froggit.
*Froggit attacks you!

*Compliment
“Uh, hey, you look like a very friendly erm fog.” Frisk smiled as they complimented a frog monster.
*Froggit didn’t understand what you said, but it was flattered anyway.
So, in turn, Froggit was about to attack Frisk, but then Toriel glared at the poor frog monster as she wasn’t too happy for them to attack the human teen, so it hopped away in shame.

*You earn 0 EXP and 0 gold.
“Are you alright?” Toriel looks at them to make sure there wasn’t any injury. “I am sorry that Froggit attacked you like that. It should have known better than attacking a child like you.” Frisk gave the goat monster a reassuring smile. “I’m okay. Thank you for your concern.” They respond as the human teen thanks her once again. “At least I strike up a friendly conversation as you told me.” Toriel sighed in relief, so they continued till they came across the next puzzle. Frisk’s eyes were shocked to see this kind of puzzle.
“Are those?”
“Yes, this is the puzzle, but….” She doesn’t seem keen on this puzzle since this floor is full of spikes that could severely hurt someone or get killed. “Here, take my hand for a moment.” Frisk took her hand as she helped them guide through this puzzle and make it to the other side. “Puzzles like this one seem a little too dangerous for now.” The goat monster remarked, “whoever built it needs to calm themselves a bit.” Frisk nodded in agreement, so the kind monster led the human to the next room, and Toriel stopped and looked at them with a proud smile.
“You have done excellently thus far, my child,” Toriel said with a smile. “However…I have a difficult request to ask of you.” Frisk tilted their head in concern. “Oh? What is it, Ms. Toriel?” They asked curiously. The kind lady fidgeted for a moment, hoping they would trust her on this, so she kindly explained this task. “I would like you to walk to the end of the room by yourself.” Frisk was confused, so the simple request was for them to walk alone down this hallway. It sounded like she wanted to test their independence, but they questioned it. “I do hope you will forgive me for this.” She said as Toriel walked away from them so they could wander alone.
“Guess I better do what she asked of me.” The teen talked to themselves. “It’s so strange that monsters are real. It feels like I’m in a dream.” As Frisk kept walking down the hallway, they were getting close to the door; Toriel appeared from behind the old pillar. “Greetings, my child.” She said gratefully. “Do not worry; I did not leave you.” Again they didn’t dare ask, so Toriel continued, “I was merely behind this pillar the whole time.” She smiled. “Thank you for trusting me.” Frisk was puzzled by this kind of test, but they smiled nevertheless, knowing this kind goat monster did give them a little bit of a tour.
“Now, I must explain why I wanted you to walk alone in this room,” Toriel explains. “It was to test your independence, and indeed, you have achieved my request.” The goat monster pulls a small gift out from her deltarune pocket and hands it to Frisk. “I have an essential business I must attend to, and you must stay here till I get back.” She gives them an apologetic look. “This CELL PHONE is a small gift from me if you have any questions or communicate if something goes wrong.” Then Toriel turns away and leaves through the door, leaving Frisk alone in the hallway; as they stand there holding their CELL PHONE, the human teen gets curious about their new item.
“I wonder what this button does,” Frisk asked themselves as they pressed the X button on the CELL PHONE. And to their surprise, it shows their STATS, ITEM, and CELL. “Oh wow, this is amazing!” The thirteen-year-old expressed astonishment. “Now I’m curious about the STAT menu.” So they press the button, and their stats pop up on their phone’s screen, but one of their stats is glitchy for some reason.

“Huh? Why is my HP glitching out like that? But to their reaction, they don’t have the proper means to fix it. “Well, I’ll have to wait and ask Toriel for her help.” They sighed and sat down next to the pillar. “She did say that she’ll be right back, so that’s what I’m going to do, sit and wait for her return.”
As hours passed, Toriel hadn’t returned, and the poor human child was still waiting for her. When they fell asleep while holding their book, Frisk started having strange dreams and voices they could never recognize except for Toriel’s.

“...And I’ve connected the irrigation system to your garden, so you won’t have to worry about carrying water from the river anymore.” said the strange young skeleton monster. “ But! I also added a puzzle to the mechanism you must solve if you want to use it! ” He posed for his most significant achievements: “I’m pretty proud of this puzzle, too; it’ll surely be challenging. “
The other monster looked like Toriel, which could be her husband sitting beside her, and he seemed impressed with the young skeleton monster’s creativity, even if it was a bit much. “Oh...yes, well, thank you, Ǵ̸͎̼̿a̷͈̚ͅs̴̯̟͖͓̊͑͋t̵͔̒e̶͖͈̼͌̿͗ṙ̸̫̅͛. ” The goat monster spoke, not sure what to say. “I’m sure it will be helpful…. ” Toriel was so invested in his puzzles that she devised an idea for the skeleton to use. “ Oh, speaking of puzzles, my dear, ” She spoke to him in a motherly voice. “ I think I’ve created a perfect clue for your button puzzles. ” The skeleton tilted his head as he was interested in the clue she came up with. “ Oh? ” Gaster expressed with curiosity, “ What is it?”
“Only the fearless may proceed.
Brave ones, foolish ones.
Both walk not the middle road.”
“What do you think? ” she asked him as Gaster was pleased with her idea. His sparkle and smile like it was the first time since…it doesn’t matter anymore. He was happy that someone enjoyed his hard work with his puzzles. “It’s …perfect. I love it! ” He said in excitement. “ How did you come up with such a perfect clue?” The queen smiled in delight, knowing how much that meant to him. “ I knew you loved it. ” she expressed with enjoyment. “I’ve been trying to use different phrases all night cause I know how particular you get into a sort of things-”
“My dear, isn’t there something else you want to tell Ǵ̸͎̼̿a̷͈̚ͅs̴̯̟͖͓̊͑͋t̵͔̒e̶͖͈̼͌̿͗ṙ̸̫̅͛? ” Her husband asked as he placed his hands on her shoulder. There was something else she wanted to tell him, and it completely slipped her mind. “ Oh gosh, you’re right! I almost forgot. ” Toriel said shockingly. “ Ahem, my child, there’s something that Asgore and I must tell you.”
“Oh? Well, What is it then? I’m listening.” Gaster expressed his interest in what the two goat monsters had to say. Toriel and her husband looked at each other and back at Gaster, hoping he would take the news very well. “Gorey and I are planning to have a baby.” she calmly told him, ensuring he wouldn’t be too upset with the news.
‘ Gorey and I are planning to have a baby,’ echoed Gaster’s mind as he tried to process this “happy” news.
* KLKL KLKL KLKL KLKL KLKL *
His body was rattling and shaking as Gaster was not pleased with this news cause he knew what that means when a BOSS MONSTER brings forth a child into this cruel world. “Y-you’re giving up your immortality?” He asked as the poor soul was fighting back his tears. “P-please tell me this isn’t a cruel joke?” Asgore and Toriel looked at each other in sadness and sighed. “I’m afraid this is not a cruel joke, my dear sweet child.” She said as both she and Asgore placed their hands on their laps, “And, yes, that is part of it for my husband and me to lose our immortality.” Toriel did her best to explain this news to Gaster as gently as possible. “You see, Asgore and I have been thinking about this for a while, and we feel that maybe it’s time to start a family, and this is what we truly want.” She shifted her hands as she was shaking, knowing this would be hard for all of them since this was a significant change for them. “And I hope that you would-”
“I understand. I have to go, like right now. ” Gaster was so upset with this news that he had to end the conversation. “ So much work that has to be done goodbye.” In a quick second, he ran off as tears fell from his cheek, and he could barely hear Toriel calling out to him.”
“G̶̲͕͝A̵̯͘͜͝S̶̯͍͙͕̏̓͆́T̵̻̪̞͒̉̂͜E̵͉̩̣̩̍͌̈̂R̶͌̽̂͜! WAIT, COME BACK!”
“ COME BACK!! ”
Forgotten Memories End
Frisk immediately jolted as they woke up from slumber; while shaking for some reason, tears fell from their face. ‘ What was that all about? ’ They touched their face as they saw a teardrop on their sleeves. ‘ Why am I crying? ’ The thirteen-year-old child couldn’t understand what just happened as they got off the floor and noticed that Toriel still hasn’t come back for them. “She still hasn’t come back yet,” They murmured. “And how long was I asleep?” So Frisk checks their phone, and their eyes widen to see that they had five missed calls from Toriel and several voice messages.
Frisk sighed as they put away their CELL PHONE and clung to their book while leaving the room. Things went smoothly during their travel in the RUINS; they faced random monsters by SPARING them and received gold along the way. Frisk managed to solve puzzles, showed MERCY to a lonesome ghost named Napstablook, and they were kind enough to donate a few of their prized money to the spider bake sale. As they continued, the human teen faced even more monsters and puzzles; they even found an item called a Faded Ribbon, but they left it in their satchel because they preferred to wear their scarf than a ribbon.
As they solved more puzzles, they made it, “Phew, I finally did it.” Frisk sighed. “I have SPARED all monsters and cracked every puzzle just to get here.” So they walked up to the next room where the old tree branch stood, hoping to meet Toriel, and to their surprise, there she was, heading her way down to meet them. “M-my child! How did you get here?” Toriel asked as she was surprised to see the human teen. “Are you hurt? If so, then let me heal you.” Looking at Frisk well, she was astonished to see no injuries on them. “Not a single scratch…Impressive! but still….” She sighed. “I should not have left you alone for that long.”
“It’s fine, don’t worry about it,” Frisk told her. “I was tired of waiting back there, so I just left the room.” The goat monster felt terrible for leaving them alone for a good while. “I’m genuinely sorry that it was irresponsible for me to try to surprise you like this.” She apologetically said, “Err..” There was silence in the room as Toriel realized she may have slipped up on that last part. “W-well, I suppose I cannot hide it any longer.” She said, smiling at them. “Come, small one! And I will show you where you will be staying.” As Toriel left, the human teen wasn’t sure what was happening, so they followed her anyway until they saw another star-like shape in front of this house. So they touched it, and another narration spoke within their mind:
(Seeing such a cute, tidy house in the RUINS gives you determination.)
FILE SAVED.
As they were done, Frisk went inside this cute house they assumed to be their new home, but someone outside the tidy home was spying on them, a golden flower, not only watching them but also following them. “So you managed to SPARE everyone here in the RUINS, eh?” the golden flower muttered. “Just you wait, my little pet. I got plans for you. Just because she loves you doesn’t mean she won't replace you.” Flowey smiled like a maniac. “Oh, this is going to be So. Much. FUN .” Then the creepy flower laughed and disappeared as he burrowed to the ground, planning the next course of action.
Notes:
FINALLY! I got this chapter done! Sorry, it took so long I had to get back into the routine and such, haha. Be prepared for the next chapter cause this will be an emotional ride and a few upsetting scenes, so be warned.
(Stop being such a creeper Flowey, god!)
Well, first forgotten memories seem familiar.

Chapter Text
"Welcome to your new home, my dear child," Toriel said as she welcomed Frisk to their new' home' "This is where you are staying, and I have everything prepared for your arrival." The tidy cottage looks spotless, and the interior looks almost identical to their parent's house back on the surface. While it feels like home to them, something in their SOUL aches with dismay as Frisk looks around the place, which appears pretty vague. Like, have they been here before? If so, then why are they feeling unhappy?
"You have a lovely home Ms. Toriel." They finally spoke, "it's has a warm feel to it." The goat monster smiled as she sincerely appreciated the compliments. "Thank you, little one." She said, "Although I must admit I didn't have the time to clean up the place before I brought you here." Didn't have time to clean up? But the entire house looked tidy from the young teen's perspective; as they headed towards the left, which leads to the living room, Frisk was impressed with the decor as the room had a small fireplace, a large bookcase, and a cozy chair, and a large dining table.
Soon the teenager placed their satchel on the hanger in the left corner of the living room; then, they smelled a pleasant sweet aroma in the kitchen. In the corner of their eye, Frisk caught a glimpse of a pie on top of the kitchen sink; the young teen's eyes sparkled in delight, and their stomach began to rumble. The young teen stares at the delicious pie and drools from their mouth as if they want to have that pie. "I see you have discovered my little surprise, little one." The goat monster said as she came behind them, "It's one of my memorable recipes, Butterscotch-Cinnamon pie." Frisk turns their head at the goat monster as they want a slice of her pie. "Did you say butterscotch-cinnamon pie?" They asked her in excitement, "Can I have a piece?"
Toriel chuckled as she placed her hands on their head and gently patted them. "I'm afraid not, my child," she said in a motherly tone. "You have to wait till it's cool enough to eat." Frisk looks slightly disappointed but understands where she is coming from; you're never too careful to eat something that could burn you. "I know. Why don't you help me cook dinner while we wait?" Toriel asked as she did her best to cheer up the young thirteen-year-old. "Then maybe we can have a slice of butterscotch-cinnamon pie in a little bit." They looked at her with a smile and nodded their head in agreement, so Toriel and Frisk beings to make dinner. While doing so, they noticed Toriel was using magic for cooking supper instead of the kitchen stove, which seemed quite unusual.
"How come you're not using the stove?" They asked while watching her use fire magic. Toriel smiled as she focused on tonight's dinner. "Well, I rather use my fire magic because I wouldn't have to worry about cleaning the kitchen stove. She replied, "Plus, it's safer than turning on my stove." Frisk was confused, but they understood what the goat monster was trying to say since magic is reliable. A few minutes later, dinner was ready to be eaten both Toriel and Frisk set up the dining room table, brought food to the table, and began eating. The two of them exchanged a pleasant conversation about their favorite hobbies or things they do for a living and then came to the dessert butterscotch cinnamon pie, a moment they'd been waiting for a while.
The old goat monster brought the young child a slice onto their plate with a smile, and she could tell they were excited to have some of her wonderful pie. Frisk took a small piece of the butterscotch-cinnamon pie and ate it as their eyes widened as they faintly recalled something. A young skeleton sniffled as he had a bad day or something sitting on the table; he looked up to the queen of monsters as she placed a special pie in front of him and gently patted his head, which made his eye glow pink for his eyes a split second. Then the skeleton grabbed a fork and took a bite of her pie; he shyly smiled while his eyes glowed green as the child was happy.
The teenager was in a daze as they were processing but snapped out of it as they quickly took another bite like they hadn't had butterscotch-cinnamon pie in a very long time, and by that very moment, Frisk's eyes glowed green right in front of Toriel. Toriel was surprised as she watched them eat it, making her feel happy inside, but then something puzzled the woman as she noticed the human child's eyes glowed green, which was very unusual or at least unheard of for any human's eye to glow.
"My goodness, child," Toriel spoke, "you seem to enjoy my homemade pie." The human child looked at her and smiled in delight. "Mmhmm," They nodded their head as they kept eating.
"Then I am happy to let you have seconds if you like." She chuckled while grabbing her empty plate." After they finished eating, Frisk immediately took her offer without a second thought. "Yes, please." They responded as the thirteen-year-old was eager for another slice. The goat lady held back her grin and gave the young teen another slice of pie which automatically transferred into their inventory.
"Thank you for the meal and for offering some desserts." They expressed their thanks to her with a genuine smile. "I don't mind helping out with some chores like cleaning the dishes for you." Toriel was quiet for a moment as she grabbed their plates, took them to the kitchen sink, and shook her head. "That won't be necessary little one," she finally spoke. "You're my guest, and it wouldn't be fair to have you clean up." The goat monster placed her hand on their head. "But I thank you for your kind offer."
"oh..." they quietly said as Frisk felt a little guilty for having a kind lady like Toriel clean up the dishes.
"But if you want to, you can explore for a bit till I get you some fresh pair of clothes and have your bath ready." The kind lady said in a gentle voice. "It's still daylight outside, so you have plenty of time to look around the house." The young teen wanted to help her, but she insisted that she'll be okay washing the dishes on her own, so they didn't press on the matter and went exploring around the house. While Frisk looked around the living room, they came across the bookcase that contained many books, including history books. Curious as they were, the young teen picked out a history book that held information about Monsters retreating into the Ruin, so they started to read peacefully among themselves:
Trapped behind the barrier and fearful of further human attacks, we retreated.
Far, far into the earth we walked, until we reached the cavern's end.
This was our new home, which we named... "Home."
As great as our king is, he is pretty lousy at names.
'King? Barrier?' As they stare at the book, those words linger in teenagers' minds. 'My father once told me that seven powerful mages sealed the monsters into the mountain long ago...but why?' more Frisk contemplates, more questions than answers, so the young teen places the book back on the shelf and explores more areas in the tidy home. As they continued exploring the living room, Frisk took a closer glimpse at the small fireplace and got curious about whether the fire was scorching hot and, to their surprise, it was warm.
*The fire isn't burning hot...
*Just pleasantly warm.
*You could put your hand inside.
Frisk decided to leave the living room and head towards the small hallway, which had several rooms to explore, so they picked the guest room since it was the closest. When they opened the door, the room was like someone used to live there, filled with a toy chest, boxes of shoes of different sizes, a closet, a dresser, and a bed with different stuffed animals. "Oh wow, look at all this neat stuff." Their eyes beamed with excitement. "Why would anyone would leave these around and not used?" So they looked around the room to pique their curiosity, and their eyes gazed at the toy box filled with cool toys.
*Look at these cool toys!
*They don't interest you at all.
"Hmmm, I wonder what else this guest room offers?" Frisk quietly mutters to themselves as they walk towards the dresser. They inspect the dresser and the closest, but nothing seems out of the ordinary, just a dusty old picture frame and what looks like an abandoned white lab coat.
"Huh? Why would someone leave this lab coat?" They asked themselves when they took it off the hanger, and a mysterious note fell off the side pocket. Frisk picked up the strange note, which is odd given the paper is in a different language, but somehow was able to translate it:
Please take care of this coat
I'm sure you'll find it useful for your travel
Hope I get to meet you soon
"'Hope I get to meet you soon?' What does that suppose to mean?" The thirteen-year-old child was confused as they stared at the old patched-up lab coat. So they decided to put it on to see if it fits them and judging by the coat size, it was too big for them to wear. "Jeez, whoever used to own this lab coat must've been tall cause this is too big for my human average height."
As Frisk was about to leave the guest room door open, Toriel was surprised to see them in the room. "Oh, my child, I did not expect you to find your room suddenly." She smiled, "I hope you find everything you need."
"...!"
Did they hear her right? Did the kind old lady say 'Your room'? The human child could hardly believe it; they hadn't been in this strange world for a day and already had a bedroom to call their own. "I'm sorry I didn't know you were gonna surprise me to have my room." Frisk apologized to her. "I didn't mean to spoil the surprise; I was just looking around." Toriel smiled at them. "No need to apologize, little one," She said in a calming manner. "And I see you found the old lab coat as well."
"I did, and I might have grown attached to it for some reason." They chuckled a bit. "It is a shame that someone had to leave it even though this coat had some history behind it." Toriel nodded as she understood what they were talking about, but little did the child know that a very important person had given her that coat in case a fallen child would ever come here, which it did just like they had predicted.
"Oh! I almost forgot that I left you some nightclothes on the bathroom table, and I have your bath ready for you." Toriel said as she suddenly remembered why she came into the guestroom in the first place. "If you want to, I'll show you where the bathroom is." The young teen nodded and followed Toriel out of the bedroom, leading them to one of the doors on the right between her bedroom and the locked room. "Here we are, my child," she said to her guest. "This is the bathroom, and everything you need is right there. Oh, and bedtime is at 8:00 pm."
"Thank you, Ms.Tori," Frisk thanked her as they went inside the bathroom and locked the door to have some privacy. A few minutes passed as Toriel was sitting on her sofa reading a book about Historical facts about Skeletons. As she wondered about the human child eye's glowed, none of this made any sense to her; no human can have such ability; only skeletons can. The book did mention that the Skeletons glow their eyes based on their emotions, but somehow the human child did. Is there some monster DNA in the child, or is there something else?
While the goat monster kept reading, Frisk came out of the bathroom looking a bit worn as if they'd seen a ghost of some sort judging by their expression, so they came down the hallway and saw Toriel sitting as she was still reading her book. "Ah, my child, are you all cleaned up?" She asked while she stopped reading her book.
"mhm" was all they could say at this point.
The young teen looked tired; they had been traveling a long way from home on the surface in the UNDERGROUND. Toriel noticed something was off with how the child's body language. They seemed more than just tired; they seemed uneasy about something.
"Are you all right, little one?" She asked in concern, "You seemed anxious. Is there something troubling you?" Frisk looked at Toriel with a weary expression and came up to her with open arms as a sign for 'I need a hug.' Toriel smiled, lifted them, and gave them a warm hug as they felt better.
"Better?" Toriel asked as she placed her hands on their shoulder. Frisk looked at her, smiled a bit, and hugged her again but didn't let go. "Y-yeah, I feel a bit better." They replied, "I just need a bit of comfort, that's all."
"Comfort?" Toriel raised her eyebrow as she was curious about what the child meant by that. "What do you mean?"
The young teen sighed and looked away from her in silence as they tried not to think about what they saw in the mirror while in the bathroom. Then they looked back at her and responded.
"It's nothing just thought I saw something in the bathroom, hehe." Frisk nervously laughed. "No need to worry. It's probably my imagination." Now she was even more curious but decided not to ask them further. "Well, all right," the goat monster spoke, "If you need to talk about anything, don't hesitate to notify me, okay?"
They nodded and yawned as they got sleepy from all that adventuring, so the kind goat lady carried them back down the small hallway towards the guest room. As she opened the door, Toriel walked towards the bed, gently laid them down, and tucked them in.
"Toriel?" Frisk murmurs while half-wake as they see her about to leave the room.
"Yes? What is it?" She responded as she looked back at the human child,
"Can you sing me a lullaby?" They ask, "It usually helped me sleep when I was little."
Toriel chuckled as she smiled, so she sat down on the edge of the bed. She came up with a song that was her children's favorite when they used to stay with her in the RUINS:
Come my child
Stay with me
I'll protect you and your dreams
Rest my child
'Neath the tree
Like it's branches, reach for me
So let me keep you safe and warm here in my arms
Think of the life that we could live, the joy that it could give
Even if we're worlds apart, stay in my heart
Someday when you've a choice to make, I hope you'll think of me
Think of me
Think of me
As she sings to them, Frisk closes their eyes and falls into slumber as the gentle of her voice soothes them while the eye glows green again.
So stay determined as you grow, love as you go
Think of the kindness that I've shared and cherish those who care
Even when we're worlds apart, stay in my heart
Someday you'll have a choice to make, I hope that you'll be good
Please be good
Please be good...
After she was finished, she got off the bed and left the room, closing the door behind her. The caretaker went back down the small hallway till she bumped into her former friend.
"Hello...Toriel," the stranger spoke, "It's been quite a long while since we've seen each other." Toriel eye's narrowed as she wasn't too pleased to see them again. "What do you want, River?" She said in a low growl, "I thought we agreed that you wouldn't come back here."
The Riverperson was silent, knowing what she had said was true. They did agree not to come back due to personal resentment and the incident with the death of a human child...the SOUL of Patience.
"Your hatred towards me still lingers. I see" The Riverperson finally broke the silence between them. "I was hoping you would let go of my past mistakes, but I can tell you let your emotions get the better of you."
Toriel flinches and takes offense to their remark as she could tell their not in a mood to have another dispute. "Tsk, and your insults are still the same as ever." She muttered. "What is it that you want?"
"...It's about the human child," River said as they knew the child was asleep on the other side of the hallway. "Are they-"
"Yes, they are here, and No, they will not leave the RUINS," Toriel quickly responded as she wanted to end the conversation with the Riversperson. "Now, if you have nothing else to say, I suggest you leave...now."
They sighed as they knew this conversation was a dead end. "Very well, I shall take my leave," Riverperson expressed disappointment. "But here is some friendly advice. I hope you will realize that your bitterness towards Asgore deeply affects him. After all, you did abandon your kingdom by running away like a coward." After that, they vanished, leaving the former queen speechless, leaving her alone in the hallway, and it will only get worse from here on out. After all, the final child will leave the RUINS just like the other six humans that fell before them.
Notes:
I am so sorry for taking so long to get chapter five done. Just a bit of a warning here is a mention of the death of a child, so there's that. Anyways Toriel does NOT get along with the Riverperson for reasons that will be clear in the future chapters.
Fun Fact: In this AU, I headcanon that the SOUL of Patience did kill several monsters when they left the RUINS and why they did such a gruesome act is unknown. There is an old saying Looks can be deceiving

Chapter Text
The morning had arrived in the RUINS as the monsters that lived in the old Capital were waking up from their slumber. Toriel, the caretaker of the RUINS, has been making a heart-healthy breakfast since a young human fell into the UNDERGROUND yesterday. It has been a long time since she had any guests in her home, and now Frisk is staying here; the kind goat monster doesn't feel lonely like she used to. But the guilt is still swimming around in the caretaker's mind as Toriel reflects on the day she abandoned her kingdom, leaving Asgore behind due to his fit of anguish and grief on losing their children...Chara and Asriel as he makes a scathing speech that any humans that fell to the UNDERGROUND will be hunted down and taken to him to be KILLED.
"That foolish King took too many innocent lives," She mumbled while waiting for Frisk to join her for breakfast. "And how dare River tell me about letting my emotions get the better of me. They, too, are to blame for taking the poor child's life." Just thinking about what her former husband had done still fills her with anger and resentment because he wasn't the only one who lost their adopted human child and their son. And yet she still blames him for being nothing but a coward and a murderer.
"Good Morning Ms.Toriel," Frisk said as they entered the living room, "Sorry for keeping you waiting." Toriel smiled as she saw the human child sitting at the dinner table. "Good Morning, my child." She responded as the kind old lady poured some fresh warm coffee into her coffee mug. "Did you sleep well?"
"Mhm, I did" The thirteen-year-old child nodded as they grabbed some breakfast onto their plate. "The bed was quite comfortable." Toriel smiled as she seemed very pleased to hear that they rested well even though the young teenager traveled a long way from home, so it was only natural that they were exhausted.
"Well, since you're awake, would you like to explore around the RUINS or stay here while I get some supplies at the RUIN market?" Toriel asked while she waited for them to finish eating.
*Toriel asked you if you want to stay here or explore around the RUINS
Stay here ❤ Explore
*Stay here❤
"I'll stay here if that's all right with you?" They answered, "I want to relax a little more."
"I understand as long you don't go near the staircase." The kind goat lady spoke as she got up from the kitchen chair. 'Don't go near the staircase?' What is Toriel hiding? More importantly, she seems a little anxious about leaving Frisk alone because what if they went downstairs and discovered that they could leave the RUINS without her knowing? So instead of leaving to get supplies, Toriel decided to stay home.
"I change my mind. I should stay here as well," Toriel said, confusing the poor child. "I don't want you to get hurt while I'm not here, and I'm sure you understand, right?"
"Uh, sure? I guess" They were skeptical about why Toriel suddenly decided not to go but didn't press on the matter. Hours passed like normal as the goat monster was reading a book called "72 Facts about snails" while Frisk was at the kitchen table drawing a picture. The picture they drew had a tall skeleton and two small skeletons on opposite sides. As the human teen stared at it, the picture filled them with guilt and sadness, and without thinking, on the corner of the drawing, they wrote, "I'm sorry."
Then they placed the drawing into their book for safekeeping, grabbed another blank sheet of paper, and started drawing again, but this time Frisk was drawing a figure they saw in the mirror yesterday night. As they finished drawing another picture, Frisk felt like the image was staring back at them, but the odd thing was the figure they drew didn't have a face; it was all pixel-like flame wearing a gray turtle neck sweater and the same lab coat that their wearing...how peculiar. Just staring at it makes them feel uneasy, so they put the picture drawing into the book and dare not look at it anymore.
"Ms. Toriel?" Frisk spoke as they broke silence while the young teenager placed their stuff into their satchel.
"Yes? What is it, my child?" Toriel responded as she paused her reading by turning her head towards Frisk. "Is there something you need?"
The thirteen-year-old child got up from their kitchen stool while wearing their lab coat and satchel and came up to her, fidgeting as they wanted to ask her a question, and by their expression...they wanted to leave HOME.
"I hate to break this to you...but" They paused for a moment, knowing if what they were doing was the right thing after all the kind goat monster did for them. Was it the best way to repay her? By leaving Toriel alone? Sadly their minds were made up since last night after the mirror incident and that dream they had along with it. They were better off leaving and continuing on their journey.
"Can you tell me how to EXIT the RUINS?" Frisk asked as they looked at her with guilt and a bit of sadness. "I must go home...my parents...they-"
Toriel looked at them in shock; her mind was screaming as they asked her for the way out of the RUINS. 'N-no, no, not again,' She silently screamed in her mind. 'Please let this be a bad dream.' The poor goat lady was trembling and trying to find an excuse to convince the child to stay with her, but seeing them as they were determined to leave so, she sighed as there was no choice in this matter...if they wanted to leave, the human child has to prove themselves to her that they will survive the cruel world...ALONE.
"Toriel? Are you-"
Frisk stopped speaking as they saw Toriel get up from her chair and walk past them; her body language told them she was hurting, so they followed her.
"Toriel? Toriel, please answer me!!" The child cried out to her as they continued to follow downstairs but stopped as Toriel turned her head at them with a serious expression on her face.
"You wish to know how to return, "home," do you not?" She expressed in a serious tone. Frisk stayed quiet as they felt guilty and slight pain in their SOUL. "Ahead of us lies the end of the RUINS." Toriel continued as she pressed forward, no longer looking at the child. "A one-way exit to the rest of the underground. I am going to destroy it. No one will ever be able to leave again. Now be a good child and go upstairs."
"T-Toriel, I-I'm sorry I didn't mean to hurt your feelings," They sobbed. "I can't stay here. I miss my family." But she did not listen to them as the goat monster was giving them another warning on how cruel this world is to a human child.
She quivered a sigh as she clenched her fist and tried her best to fight back the tears falling from her face. "Every human that falls here meets the same fate," Toriel murmured, trying to regain her poster. "I have seen it again and again. They come. They leave. They die. You naive child... If you leave the Ruins... They... ASGORE... will kill you. I am only protecting you, do you understand? Go to your room."
Still, Frisk was too determined to heed her warnings. "I understand that, but please let me go home. I don't wanna go back upstairs." They implored as the human child was too stubborn and...a word that only can describe in their mind as 'selfish.'
As they kept going, Toriel glared back at them with intimidation as she was trying to scare them back upstairs. "Do not try to stop me. This is your final warning!" She said in a threatening tone. But again, Frisk refused to go back; Toriel huffed as she knew this was the end of the line between her and the human.
When they got to the door, Toriel stood there as this would be the last time she'll see the human child again, and her heartaches as she relived this moment over and over again. "You want to leave so badly? Hmph. You are just like the others." She stated while not looking at the human teen as a burning passion flared inside her as she planned to give them an ultimate test.
She looks back at the human child as the goat monster stands her ground by blocking the only EXIT that would lead to the other side of the RUINS. "There is only one solution to this." The caretaker said in a serious tone as she summoned her fire magic.
"T-Toriel," Frisk expressed in a frightened tone. "What...what are you doing?!" They backed away but somehow pulled up the courage to stay put and face her.
"I want you to prove yourself," She explained fiercely. "Prove to me that you are strong enough to survive!
*Toriel blocks the way
'No! This can't be happening!' Frisk's mind screamed as their eye's glowed purple/yellow as they faced Toriel in a FIGHT. 'I don't wanna hurt her I-I can't!'
[FIGHT] [ACT] [ITEM] [MERCY]
Unknowing what to do, the poor child chose ACT and pressed TALK, trying their best to come up with a conversation, and they didn't want to fight her.
*You tried to think of something to say
*But you couldn't think of any conversation topics
To their horror, the TALK option didn't work, and it wasn't good. If TALK isn't the answer, then what is? But they couldn't do anything now since Toriel started throwing fireballs at them. And all they could do was dodge until it was their turn again, until her attacks hit them on the shoulder.
"AUGH" They cried out as the fire was burning hot and painful. Frisk took three damage from her attack, leaving a burn mark on their shoulder.
*17/20
*Toriel takes a deep breath
Frisk's eyes are watery as they can't believe she hurt them, but the human teen stays determined and chooses MERCY. It was the only way to SPARE her and end the FIGHT.
[MERCY]❤
*SPARE❤
"..." Toriel didn't say anything as she had seen this before.
The fight continued as Frisk kept pressing the SPARE option while Toriel tried not to hurt them. As they keep sparing her, she becomes more distressed as the old goat monster realizes she won't save a single child like Frisk. Then Toriel burst into tears and kept fighting them, knowing it hurt her too much.
"My child," The goat lady whimpers as she tries to hold back her fire magic. "Please-please, you must understand I'm doing this for your own good." But Frisk was determined to leave, and they were hurting knowing this was goodbye.
Toriel's eyes were blurry, but she caught a quick glimpse of someone she once knew, like an illusion of a scared skeleton covered in bruises and small blood splatter from killing a human. Her eyes widened as she vaguely remembered that day, so she purposely missed her aim at the human child.
They were shocked and confused about what just happened as the flames went in opposite directions, which Toriel's attack missed. Frisk noticed that the goat monster got on her hands and knees as she sobbed uncontrollably like a sad mother had lost everything. The thirteen-year-old came up to her, giving the poor old lady MERCY as she looked up at the human child Toriel meekly smiled in defeat.
"Pathetic, is it not?" she meekly spoke. "I cannot save even a single child."
They didn't know what to say to her as she kept going while looking down at the ground. "No, I understand. You would just be unhappy and be trapped down here." Toriel expressed sadness as she wiped her tears away while getting off the floor. Then she hugged them as this was her way of saying goodbye as she released Frisk from her motherly arms, Toriel walked away. Without a second thought, the former queen looked back at them in sadness and told the child that they would never forget. "Please... be good," she said in a motherly voice. "I love you...and I'll miss you, my child." Just like that, she disappeared down the halls, leaving Frisk alone.
Frisk stood there as tears fell from their face; they turned around, wanting to scream out her name, but no words came out from their mouth, only silence. They closed their eyes and sobbed quietly in the room as the human teen felt guilty for doing that to her. "I-I...I LOVE YOU TOO 💣︎⚐︎❄︎☟︎☜︎☼︎✏︎✏︎" They screamed as Frisk didn't even notice they spoke in a strange cipher font.
Minutes passed. Frisk took a long deep breath as they tried to calm themselves down, knowing going back was no longer an option; they had to press onward to leave the RUINS and face many dangerous foes. So they went to the door, and another light shone down on the small patch of grass. And what they saw next was their worst enemy...FLOWEY appeared to them, and he looked annoyed, too; judging by his expression, he had something to say.
"Clever. Veeery clever. You think you're so smart, don't you?" The creepy golden flower grumbled. "And I bet you felt great that your not a killer." Frisk gulped as the demented flower gave them a twisted smirk as he came closer. "I wonder what will you do if you meet someone bold as you?" Flowey curiously asked as he watched the human trembling.
The human teen stayed silent as he continued taunting them for their passive nature. "Idiots like you never learn that in this world, it's KILL or BE killed." He chuckled like its amusing to him as the creepy flower loomed over them. "Tell me, my little pet, why don't you give up on this world and let ME inherit the power to CONTROL."
Frisk still frighten by the golden flower, but they regain their poster and are curious about what he meant by the power to control. "Power? what are you talking about?" They asked, "Is there something that I should know about?"
The golden flower laughed; this was some sort of sick joke that he had heard thousands, if not more, during his resets. "HAHAHAHAHA!! You can't be serious," he giggled like a mad little flower. "You don't know that you can see those SAVE POINTS??"
"SAVE POINTS?" They said it like more of a statement than a question. "What is that? and yes, I have seen them; I just don't know what they are."
Flowey groans as he knows that they are truly an idiot. "You naive idiot, SAVE POINTS are those sparkling star that allows you to SAVE," he answered, "and hehe, it's useful if you end up getting KILLED by some ruthless monsters."
"What do you mean by that?" they got uncomfortable when he said KILL.
Then Flowey gave them that devilish grin as chills ran down their spine. "Oh, you poor stupid human, it's for me to know and for you to find out," he told them as they became speechless in fear again. " After all, I am the PRINCE of this world's future." They want to speak but can't say anything as the demented flower continues his speech. "So don't worry, my little monarch. I have a special plan for you, and it's going to be SO. MUCH. INTERESTING!!!" He said while laughing, "HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!" then he disappeared as he burrowed down into the ground.
"Phew, I thought he never shuts up," Frisk sighed in relief. "Well, at least he told me what SAVE POINTS are, so that's a plus." So they continued as they reached the final door, and Frisk looked back one last time, hoping they'll see Toriel again. "Goodbye...I hope we'll meet again," They whispered. Then Frisk looks forward and walks out of the RUINS, and the SEALED door closes behind them as the next part of their journey continues.
Notes:
There it is, folks; chapter six is complete. Man, what an emotional ride. I hope you guys enjoy this fanfiction because I couldn't do it without your support. And don't worry, Toriel will appear again, but not for a very long while, and stay tuned for the next chapter because Frisk will meet the Skelebros. Oh, did you guys find a secret reference to Frisk's drawing? Doesn't that look very similar to the one that Papyrus drew for Gaster? Hmmm, very interesting.

Chapter Text
As they stepped outside the old HOME, the ancient door closed behind them; now, there was no way of returning from the other side. Frisk, the thirteen-year-old fallen human, is now stranded in the cold, surrounded by snow-covered trees and an icy pathway that could lead them to another unknown area. They begin to shiver as the cold wind blows from the left side, so it is telling them to get a move on, or they'll freeze to death. Looking back at the door, the human child sighed in sadness as they couldn't go back into the Ruins anymore and spend a little more time with Toriel, but they made their choice and had to move on if they wanted to get back home to their family.
Frisk press onward, looking around to ensure that the demented golden flower isn't following them or trying to pull a nasty little surprise attack to get them killed. But he was nowhere to be found, so they kept going passing over the old large tree branch, and without warning, the human teen heard a distant sound of a tree breaking in half. They looked back behind them, and sure enough, what they saw was the same tree branch that the human passed over did indeed break in half. But how? the thirteen-year-old wanted to go back to investigate, but something was telling them to leave it be and keep going, so they did just that.
As they continued, Frisk felt an eerie chill running down their spine as if someone was following them or watching them behind the frozen trees. At a glance, they noticed what seemed to be a glowing blue eye just staring at them, and then it was gone. 'What did I just see?' They pondered as the thirteen-year-old stood there staring at the forest, hoping they could get another glimpse of whatever they had witnessed. But nothing showed, just eerie darkness within the forest, so Frisk left and continued till they reached what looked like a wooden gate.
"Is this supposed to be a gate or something?" They tilted their head as if to wonder why someone built it here. "The structure looks great but too wide, as if they were trying to stop anyone from going this direction."
Then the human child heard a footstep behind them, and their body couldn't move as if they were paralyzed. Frisk closed their eyes at first, hoping whatever it was could disappear, until they heard an intimidating voice looming behind them. "human, don't you know how to greet a new pal?" the voice spoke as he tried to scare them. "turn around and shake my hand."
The thirteen-year-old child gulped and turned around; what they didn't expect next was surprising. A short skeleton revealed himself as he held out his hands to them, waiting for the human to shake his hand, but something about him seemed strange to them. At first, Frisk was reluctant to shake his hands but took his offer without realizing it was a prank.
*Ppppbbtttt*
"heheh, the old whoopie cushion in the hand trick, it's ALWAYS funny." the short skeleton chuckled like it was amusing to see their reaction to his old pranks. On the other hand, Frisk didn't find this funny as they stood there in confusion. "Was that supposed to be funny?" They asked while crossing their arms unamused.
"well, kiddo, you may not think it was, but to me, I find it quite humerus." The strange skeleton shrugged as he placed his hands back into his pocket. They groaned at his terrible pun and didn't say anything else as he introduced himself to them.
"anywho, i should start introducing myself." He said, "my name is sans, sans the skeleton, and you are?" Frisk looked at him for a moment and introduced themselves as well. "Frisk," They responded. "Frisk Indy Jones, it's nice meeting you, Sans."
"Frisk, huh? that's a nice name you got there, kiddo." Sans spoke as he took a good look at them. He noticed a familiar lab coat the kid was wearing, which gave him a bad deja vu, and the scars on their faces seemed familiar too.
'this kid...where did they get that lab coat and those scars...i'm getting a sudden deja vu like i've seen those before...but where?' he thought to himself as Sans's eyes grew dark, giving the poor kid a nervous reaction.
"U-um, Mr. Sans, why are you looking at me like that?" Frisk asked as they backed away from him, hoping he wouldn't harm them. "Did I do something wrong? You're giving me that nasty look." Sans quickly snapped out of his thoughts as he looked at them with an apologetic look on his permanent smile.
"sorry about that, kiddo. I got lost in my skull for a bit. No need to be frightened, okay kid?." He was lying; judging how he gave them that look meant he knew something was off about them but couldn't put his fingers around it. "by the way, i was supposed to be looking out for humans, but i don't feel like capturing you." Frisk sighed in relief as Sans didn't want to capture them.
"now my brother papyrus...he's a human-hunting FANATIC." He explains to them with a bit of a warning. Hearing what he said frightened the human teen because Toriel told them that the outside of the Ruins monster would not hesitate to capture them and take their SOUL to Asgore. Then Sans and Frisk heard a distant yelling whose voice seemed loud for whatever reason.
"SAN!! SANS!! WHERE ARE YOU? YOU BETTER NOT BE SNEAKING OFF FROM YOUR POST AGAIN."
"i think that's him over there by the distance." He said, pointing his finger at the silhouette on the other side of the wooden gate. Frisk could see someone not too far from their standing, and now they were more frightened even to move an inch. Sans then explains to them to go through the gate and not worry about it much since his brother papyrus was the one who built the gate. Then Frisk spotted an oddly shaped lamp, and to their surprise, Sans had a good idea of what to do next to keep them from being caught.
"quick, hide behind that conveniently-shaped lamp," he told them "i'm sure my bro won't notice you, i promise."
'Well, it's worth the shot, I guess,' Frisk thought to themselves as they did what they were told. As they were hiding, the human teen heard footsteps crunching through the snow as a taller skeleton appeared in front of Sans. He was wearing what looked like some battle armor and an exact red color scarf and looked annoyed at his brother's shenanigans.
"sup, bro?' Sans asked as he was chilling around his station.
"YOU KNOW WHAT "SUP, " BROTHER! IT HAS BEEN EIGHT DAYS, AND YOU STILL HAVEN'T RECALIBRATED THE. TRAPS! YOU JUST STAY OUTSIDE YOUR STATION! WHAT ARE YOU EVEN DOING?!?" Papyrus voiced in frustration. Frisk couldn't help but take a small peek at what was happening and why Papyrus was being too loud while Sans was being his usual self by teasing his brother by answering the question.
"staring at this lamp. it's pretty cool. you wanna look?"
'Sans, you damn fool! Are you trying to get me captured?' Frisk's mind was already filled with fear as they continued to overhear the conversations between the two brothers. Thankfully, Papyrus was too occupied by his brother's laziness to even look at the lamp.
"NO!! I DON'T HAVE TIME TO FOR THAT SANS!! He yelled while stamping his foot, "WHAT IF THE HUMAN COMES THROUGH HERE!?! I WANT TO BE READY!!! I WILL BE THE ONE! I MUST BE THE ONE!"
Then he poses at his greatness which seems amusing for Frisk as they are still hiding as the conversation continues. 'Wow, Sans wasn't kidding when he said that his brother is a human-hunting FANATIC.' They kept peeking to see what else the two silly skeletons had to offer.
"I WILL CAPTURE A HUMAN, JUST LIKE OUR DEAR UNCLE ONCE DID! Papyrus said, full of admiration, "THEN, I, THE GREAT PAPYRUS, WILL GET ALL THE THINGS I UTTERLY DESERVE! RESPECT...RECOGNITION...THEN I WILL FINALLY BE ABLE TO JOIN THE ROYAL GUARD! AND PEOPLE WILL ASK ME TO BE MY 'FRIEND'?"
The human teen couldn't help but feel bad for the tall skeleton; it seemed like he was having trouble making friends or perhaps feeling lonely. Either way, they kept listening to his conversations.
"CAN'T YOU SEE IT, BROTHER? I WILL BATHE IN A SHOWER OF KISSES EVERY MORNING!" Papyrus spoke in delight as his eyes sparkled while daydreaming of his achievements.
Frisk covers their mouth as they try not to give themselves away while quietly giggling. 'Oh god, that tall one is rather amusing too' His glories entertained them as they kept watching the skelebros silly arguments.
"welp, maybe the lamp will help those kisses light of your life." Sans jokingly grinned at his brother while, once again, the thirteen-year-old child face palmed at his horrible jokes.
"SAN!! YOU ARE NOT HELPING!! YOU LAZYBONES!!" Papyrus shouted while stomping his foot on the snow again in disapproval. "ALL YOU DO IS SIT AND BOONDOGGLE! YOU GET LAZIER AND LAZIER EVERYDAY!!!"
"hey, take it easy. i've gotten a ton of work done," Sans said as he waited for the right moment, and then he came up with a skeleton pun, "a skele-ton."
"Ugh, that's just awful. Get a better one, Sans," The human teen mumbled as they tried not to be loud for the skeleton brothers to hear. As for Papyrus, he didn't seem to like Sans's puns, judging by his expression.
"SANS!!!"
"come on. you're smiling." Sans pointed out the obvious as his brother sighed, knowing he did indeed was smiling.
"I AM, AND I HATE IT!" Papyrus exclaimed, then sighed in disappointment as he spoke in a gentler tone. "WHY DOES SOMEONE AS GREAT AS ME HAVE TO WORK SO HARD TO GET ANY RECOGNITION..."
"wow, sounds like you're really working yourself...down to the bone." Sans chuckled by nudging his COOLEST brother as he was teasing Papyrus with another one of his skeleton puns. Frisk was getting annoyed at this point but stayed very quiet and pretended not to hear any more of Sans's bad puns because one bad pun is enough, but constantly hearing more can get very irritating.
"UGH!!! I MUST GET BACK TO WORK!" Papyrus said in annoyance, and then he came up with a pun; get back at Sans. "AS FOR YOUR WORK? PUT A LITTLE MORE..."BACKBONE" INTO IT!!! NYEHEHEHEHEHEH!!!"
Frisk was astonished as they heard Papyrus making a pun. "Pffft, nice one," They chuckled "at least his skeleton pun is a lot funnier than Sans." Then a cold wind tickled their nose; the poor human child held back their sneezing. "a-a-AAAAACHOOOOO!!!" They sneezed, and Frisk's eyes were wide open as they just now gave themselves away by sneezing loud enough for both Sans and Papyrus to hear.
"DID YOU HEAR THAT?" Papyrus asked as both of them turned their heads toward the lamp. "IS THERE SOMEONE HIDING BEHIND THAT LAMP?" Sans sighed and shrugged as he could tell there was no longer point for the human child to hide.
"it's alright. you can come on out." Sans called out to them, "my brother papyrus won't harm you." Papyrus looked at Sans in confusion about why he was calling out to a lamp until he heard a shuffle, and what he saw next filled him with excitement. A human teenager appeared behind the conveniently-shaped lamp; they looked nervous as Papyrus was beaming for joy.
"SANS!! OH MY GOD!! IS THAT...A HUMAN?!?!" Papyrus asked his brother Sans as he pointed at them. The shorter skeleton looked at them, then looked at Papyrus and shook his head.
"nah, I think that's a lamp," Sans replied to his brother's question, which disappointed Papyrus. "although I think if you wear your glasses, it might help you find a human." Frisk stood there in silence, wondering how a skeleton wears glasses; they don't have ears as humans do unless they put tape on their glasses and put it on that way. Papyrus, however, doesn't seem to like the idea of wearing glasses, but due to his near sight, he may have no choice but to wear them.
"AWWW, SANS, DO I HAVE TO WEAR THEM?" Papyrus complained as he grabbed his pair of glasses out from Sans's pocket. "AS MUCH I ENJOY WEARING MY GLASSES...I RATHER NOT WEARING THESE IN PUBLIC!" Sans shrugged like it was out of his hands since their uncle told Papyrus that he had to wear them at all times.
"sorry, bro, i'm not the one who makes the rules," Sans explains to him "our uncle did say that you must wear your glasses. even though he has a habit of being overbearing at times." The taller skeleton sighs in defeat as he knows his brother is right, so he puts them on, and everything looks more transparent to him.
"STILL, I PREFER TO WEAR THEM WHILE AT-!!!!" Papyrus's eyes widened as he saw a human standing beside the lamp, which made him happier than ever.
"OH MY GOD!!! SANS! I-I FOUND A HUMAN!!!" Papyrus cried for joy as he picked up his brother and twirled him around. "I DID IT!!! I DID IT!!! UNDYNE WILL BE SO PROUD OF ME, AND I'M GONNA BE POPULAR...POPULAR!!!!" Frisk was utterly confused about what was happening guess that means he was happy to see them? Have they never seen a human before? The human teen couldn't tell for sure, but nothing could go wrong as long he didn't harm them. Then Papyrus places his brother back down and regains his posture to demonstrate his ability to capture them.
"AHEM. HUMAN! YOU SHALL NOT PASS THIS AREA!" Papyrus elucidates as he takes his stance on Frisk, who looks harmless. "FOR I, THE GREAT PAPYRUS, WILL STOP YOU!!!" The thirteen-year-old child wasn't sure what to make of this, but at least Sans's brother seemed confident as he continued to give them an explanation about what will happen next. "I WILL THEN CAPTURE YOU! YOU WILL BE DELIVERED TO THE CAPITAL!" He explains further, "THEN...THEN!!! I'M NOT SURE WHAT'S NEXT. IN ANY CASE! CONTINUE...IF YOU DARE! NYEHEHEHEHEHEH!!!"
Papyrus momentarily left, leaving only Sans and Frisk alone. "He seems very passionate about capturing me," Frisk finally spoke as they looked at Sans, unsure what to do next.
"don't worry, kiddo," Sans gives them a reassuring smile "my brother might look dangerous, but he's quite friendly once you get to know him, and I did promise someone to keep an eyesocket on ya." He winks at them before leaving, then Sans stops and looks back at Frisk as his eyes go dark on them, giving the poor human an uneasy feeling. "oh, before i leave, there's one piece of advice i have to say about fighting my brother...don't, capiche? or else you're gonna have a bad time." he said in a threatening tone. Then he teleported away, leaving the human teen shaken in fear, trying to process what he had just said.
'What's his deal... I feel like he despises me for unknown reasons?' They questioned as somewhere in depths within their SOUL triggered a memory.
Forgotten Memories #██
It was another routine for Dr. Gaster as he walked down the hallway of his lab holding a clipboard in his hands as he was ready to give the subjects another test since the hide-and-seek test was proven successful, or so he thinks. The royal scientist came up to the keypad scanner and placed his hands on it, and it began to scan his hand.
*BEEP BEEP BEEP* *CLICK*
The scanner unlocked his test subject's cell, and he sighed. 'It's gonna be one of those days,' He thought to himself but said nothing for a moment as he walked towards subjects 1-S and 2-P's cell room while looking down at his clipboard.
"You two-" The older skeleton spoke but stopped as he looked at subject 1-S, and the small skeleton was holding one of his arms with a metal plate in his hands. 1-S looked at Gaster with a cocky attitude as he waved his left arm around to mock him.
"what? something wrong?" 1-S said while giving him that smug grin, "didn't you tell my brother "that it's completely normal and entirely painless"?"
"..."
He kept going, not realizing that his attitude would get his brother involved "nothin wrong with taking your arm off, right?" he explained to his tormentor while Gaster stood there in silence, "unless there's something hidden in this arm of mine?" Then an idea hit him while 1-S kept on taunting him as he kept talking while placing his left arm on the metal bench, "oh, why don't I just leave it here for today? after all, it's not like your gonna lose it or something, right?" 2-P looked at his brother in confusion about what he meant by "lose it."
"..." Gaster sighed as he placed his hands on his face like he was not in the mood for this childish game. "Alright, since you wanna be insolent with me 1-S, I might as well shorten the lesson." Dr. Gaster looked at the other skeleton, 2-P, and used him for today's lesson as punishment for subject 1-S's behavior.
"Subject 2, come here," he ordered as Subject 1 looked at Gaster in suspicion as his brother approached the Royal Scientist. "Give me your arm." Then he told Subject 2 to stand over there next to 1-S and which he did accordingly, unaware of what was going to happen. Both brothers looked at the older skeleton as he was holding Subject 2's arm and what he did next was unspeakably cruel. Gaster glares at the smaller skeleton and hides his fainted grin, and without saying a word to either of them, he breaks subject 2-P's arm.
*SNAP*
"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAOWOWOWOWOWOW!!!!!" 2-P was screaming as he felt excruciating pain within his SOUL while 1-S was freaking out as he went to him in a panic while his eyes glowed CYAN.
"oh-oh my god, brother!! are you okay?!" 1-S asked while he was doing his best to comfort 2-P, then he looked back at Gaster in anger "the hell is wrong with you?!?"
"Just giving you both a shorter version of my lessons about bone detachment." He answered without showing any remorse. "While it's true that the limbs are physically detached and immobile, but it's still magically connected to the skeleton's SOUL." Dr.Gaster turns away and looks back at them before leaving. "Don't worry, 2-P. I'll bring your arm back when I fix the bone...And 1-S, you can be too clever for your own good at times."
Forgotten Memories end
Frisk sighed as it was time for them to leave, but they couldn't help but wonder why Sans gave them those looks. Did he know them from somewhere? that would be impossible since they had only just met, but the more they thought about it, the weirder it got. They headed straight toward the pathway that Papyrus went and followed along the trail until they reached a long posted sign which could be a direction and lucky for them another SAVE point appeared.
*The convenience of that lamp fills you with determination
* FILE SAVED
Meanwhile, Sans teleported himself to Waterfall, where his dear old uncle, the Riverperson, took residence after they lent him and Papyrus the old house in Snowdin. Everyone in the UNDERGROUND fears their uncle as rumors spread that he can predict the future, or so they claim. Others believed that the Riverperson was once the Royal Judge to King Asgore and their magic was impossible to dodge. Some believed that the Riverperson was a skeleton...only Sans and Papyrus knew that part of the rumor was true.
Sans walked past the Echo flowers and found the Riverperson standing alone on his boat; as he approached them, his uncle looked at him and spoke.
"Hello, my child," The riverperson greeted with a tired smile. "I see you've been busy," Sans chuckled but sighed as he looked at them with a serious expression and his uncle took it as he wanted to talk to them about something.
"...I take your silence as a sign that you wanted to talk to me about something." They spoke as they got off their boat. "It's about the human child, isn't it?" The short skeleton was quiet for a moment then he spoke.
"yeah, uncle zeyada, it's about the kid." He expressed in a serious tone, "i need you to tell me everything."
Notes:
Happy Halloween!!! Chapter seven is complete!! Phew, I thought I never get it done, but I managed to pull through and finish it. I hope you all like a small hidden detail about Papyrus wearing glasses because I thought this seems fitting for him because I wear glasses and I, for one, believe it makes me feel cool and confident. And as for Sans's odd behavior towards Frisk, he doesn't remember the resets but only has Deja Vu, but seeing them gives him bad memories of something he would rather not remember.

Chapter Text
Still traveling through the Snowdin Forest, Frisk meets and faces many monsters within the forest. They even face Doggo, one of the royal guards whose inability to see Frisk as he managed to introduce them to the blue attack, which could be useful for an upcoming fight. After sparing Doggo, they continued their journey when they encountered Sans again, which was strange at first, but given that their first interactions with him didn't seem to go all that well, they came across an ice patch with a sign that told them Snowdin Town is to the east.
"So if I keep going east just like the sign says, I might get to Snowdin Town," They quietly said without anyone hearing them. "But why is it called Snowdin?" The thirteen-year-old child shrugged and pressed on as they headed east of the ice room, and as they went on, Frisk noticed two skeletons on the other side of the big Snowy area. They stood there in silence as they overheard the conversations between the two brothers as Papyrus scolded Sans about his laziness again.
"YOU'RE SO LAZY!! YOU WERE NAPPING ALL NIGHT!" Papyrus expressed in irritation as he crossed his arms. On the other hand, Sans was chilling as he shrugged while correcting his brother's accusation.
"bro, it's called sleeping." Sans pointed out, "you know i like to sleep a lot."
"EXCUSES, EXCUSES!" Papyrus exclaimed as he shook his head in disapproval. Then both Sans and Papyrus turned their heads from each other and noticed that the human teen was standing there and which made Papyrus feel excited within an instant.
"OH-HO! THE HUMAN FINALLY ARRIVED!" He said as Papyrus regained his composure and gave them a challenging stance."NOW BEFORE YOU STEP ANY FURTHER, MY BROTHER AND I HAVE CREATED SOME PUZZLES! AND I'M SURE YOU WILL FIND THIS PUZZLE...QUITE SHOCKING!!!"
Frisk looked down at this "puzzle" floor and titled their head as they tried to wonder what sort of puzzle Sans and Papyrus had created and gathered information in their head about what he meant by "shocking." It wasn't long until Papyrus gave them the answer that they wanted.
"AS YOU CAN SEE, HUMAN, THIS INVISIBLE MAZE IS MADE WITH ELECTRIC CHARGE!" Papyrus explains while holding the orb in his hands, "WHEN YOU TOUCH THE WALLS OF THIS MAZE, THIS ORB WILL ADMINISTER A HEARTY ZAP! SOUNDS LIKE FUN?!" The young teen's eyes widened in disbelief at what the tall skeleton had told them as they looked down at the invisible electrical maze in amazement, excluding the zapping part.
"That's quite an impressive puzzle design," They mentally noted as the thirteen-year-old child continued to listen to what Papyrus had to say about this puzzle. "I wonder what other kinds of puzzles those two have created?"
"BECAUSE THE AMOUNT OF FUN YOU WILL PROBABLY HAVE, IS ACTUALLY RATHER SMALL, I THINK!" Papyrus said in a quieter tone as he confessed, averting his gaze from the human. Granted, the teenager felt relief that Papyrus was considerate of their safety as they know that getting electrocuted is the worst way to die.
"OK, YOU CAN GO AHEAD NOW." Papyrus said, his tone changed again to confidence. Again, Frisk looked at the puzzle, then at the brothers, took a deep breath, and took a couple of steps until the Great Papyrus got electrocuted, which made the human teen freak out a bit.
*BZZZZZZZZZZZZZZT*
"Papyrus, are you okay?" they asked, concerning what they'd witnessed, hoping that electroshock didn't damage him. Papyrus was dazed for a moment until he came to and looked at his brother in dissatisfaction.
"SANS!!! WHAT DID YOU DO?!?!" He exclaimed while stomping his foot on the snowy ground.
"i think the human has to hold on to the orb," Sans answered as he pointed at the orb that Papyrus was holding.
"OH.OKAY." Papyrus could say at this point as he walked up to Frisk by following the correct path on the puzzle maze. Then he stood very close to the young teenager. As they looked up at him, Frisk couldn't help but feel slightly intimidated, judging his height compared to theirs. The thirteen-year-old gulped and felt a little nervous about what the tall skeleton was planning to do until he placed the orb onto their hand, and their reaction, of course, they were perplexed.
"HOLD THIS PLEASE!" He instructed them with a favorable smile, and Papyrus then returned to his position on the other side of the puzzle maze, leaving Frisk waiting for their next instructions.
"OKAY, TRY NOW!" He hollered out to them, giving the young teen a signal to go ahead on solving his amazing puzzles even though he might not have realized that he involuntarily gave out the solutions to the maze as they looked at his footprints left on the snowy pathway.
"Okay, here goes nothing," Frisk said quietly to themselves as they followed Papyrus's footprints that were left on the snow. The young teenager walked carefully, ensuring they won't get zapped during this puzzle-like maze, and Frisk smiled as they made it to the other side of the snowy area, leaving Papyrus shocked and impressed with their puzzle skills.
"INCREDIBLE!! YOU SLIPPERY SNAIL!! IT TOOK ME THREE WEEKS TO RECALIBRATE THIS PUZZLE!" Papyrus said thoughtfully, and then his tone changed to eagerness. "HOWEVER!! THE NEXT PUZZLE WILL NOT BE EASY! IT IS DESIGNED BY MY BROTHER SANS! YOU WILL SURELY BE CONFOUNDED! I KNOW I AM! NYEHEHEHE!"
Frisk and Sans stood there watching Papyrus walk away while hearing his usual laughter from a distance. The young teen was already tired from their journey, but they had many more grounds to cover to get to Snowdin Town. Before they head out, Sans stops them for a moment to have a small conversation.
"kiddo, i wanna say thank you for doing this puzzle," Sans said as he thanked them. "it made my brother's day a lot more special, and he seems to be having fun too." Frisk didn't know what to say as they were surprised that Sans was thanking them despite his usual behavior towards them.
"You don't have to be thanking me, really," They said while clinging to their satchel straps, "and I agree that it was fun doing his creative maze puzzle." Sans nodded as he seemed pleased with their answer, but still, he didn't seem to trust them...yet.
"by the way, did you see that weird outfit he's wearing?" he asked "we made that a few weeks ago for a costume party. in fact, he hasn't worn anything else since...keeps calling it his 'battle body.' man. isn't my brother cool?" Frisk chuckled in amusement as they would never have thought a cool skeleton like Papyrus would wear a costume everyplace he goes.
"Yeah, he is pretty cool, given that his battle body suits him very well," They giggled, "and I'm sure he thinks you're cool, too." The short skeleton was impressed by how they seemed to take respect to his brother Papyrus which was a good thing for him, at least.
As Frisk continued, they took a small break and bought some Nice Cream from the Nice Cream Guy. Even though the whole region is freezing, it doesn't stop them from eating a nice cold treat. Soon they meet the brothers again, and Papyrus explains about the next puzzle, which frustrated him that Sans's so-called puzzle was on the ground, which is nothing but a piece of paper with the title " junior jumble." The thirteen-year-old child picked it up; they were confused about this "puzzle," not like it was hard or anything, so they went ahead and solved Sans's "complexed" word search by showing them that they had completed the challenge.
Although Papyrus was disappointed that the puzzle didn't do anything, he seemed pleased that the human teen solved it without a problem. Time went by quickly as Frisk still traveled through the frozen forest, encountering the royal guard duo Dogaressa and Dogamy and solving more puzzles along the way, including Papyrus's frozen spaghetti puzzle. The poor thing was tired and cold; they hoped they get to the town soon, but they couldn't lose hope as Frisk must stay determined as they completed even more puzzles.
When Frisk meets the brothers again, Papyrus and Sans introduce them to the Multicolored Tile Puzzle. Again, the taller skeleton explained to the human teen how this puzzle worked. This made them utterly bewildered as they had no idea what he had said because his explanation was complicated even to understand. With that out of the way, Papyrus pulled the lever on the stage machine representing a robot of some sort, and everyone watched as they waited for the tiles to change completely, which they did. Sadly, it was just a normal reddish color tile, a safe pathway for the human teen to walk on through. Frisk didn't know what to think of it as they saw Papyrus's expression as he was not happy with the outcome of this disappointing puzzle.
Frisk walked across as they felt sorry for Papyrus as he was trying so hard while walking away somewhat in defeat. Sans then chatted with them to get their mind invested in another topic.
"so about my bro's spaghetti from earlier, it wasn't too bad." he told them "since he started cooking lessons, he's been improving a lot. i bet if he keeps it up, he'll make something edible next year."
"Papyrus can cook? I thought he wanted to join the royal guard?" Frisk thought as they took an interest in what he had told them. "Well, then again, I did tell a bit of a lie that I ate his spaghetti which is unfortunate since it became frozen solid, but at least I made him happy."
Their journey was long as they came across the final X's and O's ice puzzle. With that, the young teen solved it and slid through a tunnel of coniferous trees to get to the next area. Frisk then discovers a pile of snow on the ground; they get curious as they dig through every one of these "snow poff." The human child eye's sparkled as they found 30G inside the snow, wondering why anyone would leave their hard-earned money in the snow.
"Holy cow!! I can't believe I found money," They yelled in excitement but then tilted their heads in puzzlement. "But why would they leave it here? I guess they want someone to have it." After sparing Greater Dog, the human teen leaves the room through the east exit and approaches the final puzzle, The Gauntlet of Deadly Terror. Frisk even noticed the brothers were waiting for them on the other side of the bridge as Papyrus gave his latest posture to challenge them with his puzzles.
"HUMAN! THIS IS YOUR FINAL AND MOST DANGEROUS CHALLENGE! BEHOLD! THE GAUNTLET OF DEADLY TERROR!" Papyrus declared in full confidence. Frisk's eyes widened in fright as they saw many deadly weapons hanging above the bridge, including a strange...little dog? They weren't sure why a little white dog was hanging there, but it didn't seem all that concerned.
"WHEN I SAY THE WORD. IT WILL FULLY ACTIVATE!!! CANNONS WILL FIRE! SPIKES WILL SWING! BLADES WILL SLICE! EACH PART WILL SWING VIOLENTLY UP AND DOWN! ONLY THE TINIEST CHANCE OF VICTORY WILL REMAIN!!!" The tall skeleton voiced in a high-spirited manner. The human child didn't say a word as they were too frightened to speak and paralyzed even to move, knowing they felt betrayed while hoping he wouldn't dare even to hurt them.
"ARE YOU READY!? BECAUSE! I! AM! ABOUT! TO DO IT!" He hollered out to them. Frisk wants to run back to the Ruins and tell the kind goat lady that she was right all along that monsters did want to capture them and that they were sorry for not taking her warning seriously, but they didn't and stood their ground waiting for this deadly puzzle to end. Then...there was silence filling the whole area as Frisk and Sans waited for Papyrus to activate The Gauntlet of Deadly Terror.
"well? what's the holdup?" Sans asked his brother as he looked at Papyrus in confusion.
"HOLDUP!? WHAT HOLDUP!? I'M... I'M ABOUT TO ACTIVATE IT NOW!" Papyrus responded, but his voice was a dead giveaway as he hesitated about activating his puzzles. Another minute had passed, and still, nothing; it seemed that Papyrus didn't want to do this challenge after all. Frisk still looked at the brothers hoping the taller skeleton had changed his mind on this ordeal.
"that, uh, doesn't look very activated." Sans commented.
"WELL!!! THIS CHALLENGE!!! IT SEEMS... MAYBE... TOO EASY TO DEFEAT THE HUMAN WITH." Papyrus said, averting his gaze; then he shouted, "YEAH! WE CAN'T USE THIS ONE!!! I AM A SKELETON WITH STANDARDS!!! MY PUZZLES ARE VERY FAIR! AND MY TRAPS ARE EXPERTLY COOKED! BUT THIS METHOD IS TOO DIRECT! NO CLASS AT ALL! AWAY IT GOES!"
Then just like that, all weapons, including the dog, disappeared. Frisk's eyes sparkled as they felt glad that Papyrus chose not to harm them with his puzzles. "S-so cool," They quietly spoke without the skeleton brothers hearing them. Papyrus sighed in relief, and then he looked back at them as he regained his composure.
"WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING AT!? THIS WAS ANOTHER DECISIVE VICTORY FOR PAPYRUS!!" Papyrus stated, but his laughter wasn't very convincing. "NYEH!! HEH!! ... HEH???
After Papyrus departed, the thirteen-year-old child made it across the bridge. They looked in the direction he went, and before Frisk left, Sans had other things to tell them about.
"i don't know what my brother's going to do now. if i were you, i would make sure i understand blue attacks." Sans explains to them in a friendly manner as his eyes grow dark, "because the person that i once knew traumatized my brother and me by using the anti-blue magic as punishment."
Frisk gulped and shuddered as they didn't like how he explained blue magic to them, so the teen left without saying anything else. Soon they had finally made it to their destination: Snowdin Town. Frisk feels overjoyed yet tired since they've been traveling a long way, so they go to the locals to see if there's any place for them to stay the night. Thankfully one of the kind citizens gave them directions to the Snowdin Inn, which is connected to the Snowdin Shop. As they came to the extended building, Frisk found another SAVE point as they normally do on their journey; they touched the sparkling yellow star.
*The sight of such a friendly town filled you with determination.
* FILE SAVED
That night everything seemed quiet as Frisk was sleeping peacefully, but it wasn't long till they started to have a nightmare. They were tossing and turning as their dream felt too real for them.
"C-can't get out...I CAN'T GET OUT!!!!!!" Frisk screamed as they woke up from their dream. Their eyes glowed purple/yellow again. The poor child was shaken up, having no idea what that dream was, but it did give them quite the fright.
"What...what was that?" They murmured as they tried to calm themselves, "that dream felt too real and...god, what is happening to me?" Frisk laid back down and stared at the ceiling as their minds wondered about what Sans had told them.
"Sans don't seem to like me that much...but why?" Frisk ponders for a bit. "Oh well, it's no use to thinking about it...I'm sure he'll come around eventually." After a few minutes, Frisk drifted back to sleep, and the night was peaceful again, and tomorrow will be a brand new day and adventure.

Chapter Text
A new morning arrived as Frisk woke up from their slumber as they were well-rested after a long journey from Snowdin Forest. They got out of bed, changed their night clothes that the nice innkeeper left for them to their regular clothes, and put on their glasses. Frisk grabbed their belongings and headed downstairs so they could thank the nice lady for letting them stay the night in the Snowdin Inn.
“Hiya,” The innkeeper greeted them with a smile. “You look like you had a great sleep. Which is incredible because you were only up there for about a whole night.” Frisk smiled at her and placed 80G as payment on her desk for letting them stay here for one night.
“Here’s 80G, miss.” They told her, “and thank you for letting me stay here. It’s very nice of you.” The innkeeper smiled back at them as she waved goodbye to the human teen and watched them leave her inn.
“What a nice young traveler,” she thought to herself. “I hope they know they can come back into my inn anytime.”
Frisk steps outside the Snowdin Inn and looks around the scenery in amazement; the town is truly a winter wonderland as the whole town of Snowdin is filled with Christmas lights, wreaths, and a Christmas tree in the middle of the street. The thirteen-year-old child decided to take a load off on their next destination and stay here to do some sightseeing, and their first stop was to get something to eat. So they went to the right, heading to Grillby’s pub; while the young teen was walking, Frisk took notice of another building in the middle of the town called LIBRARBY. Their eyes sparkled, filling them with excitement; since this place had a Library, it could only mean one thing...BOOKS and lots of them.
“Am I dreaming?!” They excitedly scream into their mind, “Snowdin has a library? Now I have to check this place out!” Eager as they were, their main focus was having breakfast, so they went to Grillby’s, and thankfully it was open. Frisk opens the door and sees several monsters already at the tables and the bar station while a flame monster in what looks like he’s wearing a suit is already tending to his guest. They looked around the place and noticed that the Snowdin Canine Unit was playing poker while the lesser dog was playing alone.
“Huh, I never would have thought that dogs could play poker” They giggled in amusement as the human teen walked passed their table. Frisk got to the bar stool and sat down, and the nice bartender looked at them in silence as he held a notepad and pencil, waiting for them to order. They looked at the menu to see what they wanted to eat, and the young teen was ready to order.
“Can I have a bowl of oatmeal and some hot cocoa?” They shyly asked politely to the flame monster. Grillby nodded as he wrote down the order, then looked at them and spoke with his hands, saying, “is there anything else you wanted to add to your order?” The thirteen-year-old was taken aback as they were surprised by another person...or monster, in this case, who knows sign language. Judging how he uses his hands must be his only way to talk to others which seems nice for Frisk since they, too, know how to use sign language.
“No, thank you,” Frisk responded as they used their hands to sign back to Grillby. “That’s all I wanted to eat; I appreciate your kind offer.” The bartender smiled and went to the door that led to the kitchen as Frisk waited for him to prepare their food. Several minutes later, Grillby returned with their food, placed it in front of the young teen, and said, “be careful, it’s pretty hot, and enjoy your meal.”
They nodded and began eating their meal as Frisk’s mind wonders a bit while thinking about what Sans told them and his strange attitude against them. Surely the small skeleton didn’t mean any harm yesterday; he was just an overprotective brother, right? After they finished their meal, Frisk paid and thanked Grillby for the food and left his pub, heading straight towards the Snowdin LIBRARBY. The young teen was eager to go in and read books until their heart was content and their mind was filled with knowledge as they wanted to learn more about monster history and culture.
As they opened the door and went inside, their eyes widened with wonder to see so many bookshelves filled with books. Around a table, two newspaper editors and a Loox are present. The library owner is also present as the child looks around with excitement as they look at the bookshelves trying to find the perfect book to read. Soon Frisk’s eyes were fixated on four books that caught their attention: The orange book, Bluebook, Light Green Book, and Dark Green Book, so they grabbed those books of their choosing and went to another table to read quietly alone, and one of the books gave them another interesting history about Monsters leaving the ruins:
“MONSTER HISTORY PART 4”
Fearing the humans no longer, we moved out of our old city, HOME.
We braved harsh cold, damp swampland, and searing heat...
Until we reached what we now call our capital.
“NEW HOME.”
Again, our King is really bad at names...?
“Searing heat?” they pondered while looking at the information it gave them. “and damp swampland? I never knew that place could exist in the Underground.” After that, they began to read another book that talked about Monster SOULS and magic:
Because they are made of magic, monsters’ bodies are attuned to their SOUL.
If a monster doesn’t want to fight, its defenses will weaken.
And the crueler the intentions of our enemies, the more their attacks will hurt us.
Therefore, if a being with a powerful SOUL struck with the desire to kill...
“What does that suppose to mean? ’a powerful SOUL struck with a desire to kill,’” Frisk contemplated as they had a sinking feeling about the information the book gave them, which gave them a cold chill running down their spine. The young teen decided to put the orange book back on its shelf and dare not to read it again, so they read yet another book about Monster’s SOUL:
Love, hope, compassion...
This is what people say monster SOULs are made of.
But the absolute nature of “SOUL” is unknown.
After all, humans have proven their SOULs don’t need these things to exist.
“I’m quite impressed that there is so much information about SOULs and Magic,” They quietly spoke. “I want to know more about SOULs. I can’t help but feel eager to learn about SOULs, Monsters, and...Magic.” Frisk then looked at the clock hanging by the wall, and it was half past noon, which meant it was time for them to go, so they got up, placed each book back into its rightful place, and left the library.
The thirteen-year-old child took a nice walk towards the north exit of the main part of Snowdin Town, which leads to a long horizontal room through the north exit; they arrived in a small room connected to the water. The area was peaceful as they enjoyed the silence until their CELL PHONE began to ring, so they answered.
“Hello?” they responded to whoever was on the other line that was calling on their cell phone. There was no answer for a few minutes until they heard something on the other end of what sounded like it was nothing but garbage noise.
“....?” Frisk was confounded as the phone call ended; they looked at their phone for a moment, then placed it back in the lab coat’s pocket.
“What was that all about?” the young teen murmured as they walked away from the scenery heading back to town. “hmmm, it’s probably just a prank call.”
The day went by normally as Frisk did a little bit of shopping at the Snowdin Shop, and they were really happy that they bought two packs of Marshmellow and one Cinnamon Bun. Then the human teen went back inside the Snowdin inn for another night, and to their surprise, the innkeeper let them stay for free without paying, so they thanked her and wished her goodnight. The nightly evening went by as the new morning arrived, and Frisk decided to face their final challenge by facing Papyrus.
“Okay, I can do this...” Frisk mentally told themselves as they were getting dressed, packed their things, and left the inn as they waved goodbye to the innkeeper. The thirteen-year-old child clung to their satchel as they headed to the end of Snowdin Town. The mysterious fog covers the snowy pathway until they see a shadowy silhouette of a person standing alone as he is waiting for them to show up. A cold wind was howling as two people were standing face to face; the taller skeleton looked at Frisk as he gained his poster with a challenging stance and gave the human teen his distinction oration.
“HUMAN. ALLOW ME TO TELL YOU ABOUT SOME COMPLEX FEELINGS.” Papyrus spoke to them, “THE JOY OF FINDING ANOTHER PASTA LOVER. THE ADMIRATION FOR ANOTHER’S PUZZLE-SOLVING SKILLS. THE DESIRE TO HAVE A COOL SMART PERSON THINK YOU ARE COOL. THESE FEELINGS...THEY MUST BE WHAT YOU ARE FEELING RIGHT NOW! I CAN HARDLY IMAGINE WHAT IT MUST BE LIKE TO FEEL THAT WAY. AFTER ALL, I AM VERY GREAT.” He then posed to the human teen to prove his greatness.
“Indeed you are Papyrus,” they chuckled, “and I bet no one can outmatch your greatness, not even me.” Papyrus’s eyes beamed in delight at how they complimented him as if he found a new...friend? Although Sans is nowhere to be seen, he is actually hiding behind the trees at a very close distance to be sure that Frisk won’t try any funny business to hurt his brother.
“i’ve got my eye on you, kiddo,” Sans murmured as his good eye glowed blue. “or else i’ll find any skeletons inside your closet.” Frisk felt an eerie chill crawling down their spine but didn’t press the matter while they listened to what Papyrus had to say.
“I DON’T EVER WONDER WHAT HAVING LOTS OF FRIENDS IS LIKE.” He explains to them, even though Frisk could tell he was completely lying as the tall skeleton looked away. “POOR LONELY HUMAN! BUT WORRY NOT! I, THE GREAT PAPYRUS, WILL BE YOUR...” Frisk tilted their head as Papyrus paused for a moment, then he spoke again disappointingly, “NO. THIS IS ALL WRONG. I CAN’T BE YOUR FRIEND. YOU ARE A HUMAN...I MUST CAPTURE YOU- HEY, PLEASE... DON’T LOOK AT ME LIKE THAT!” He pleaded, knowing Frisk was saddened about his turn down of being their friend. “IT’S NOT PERSONAL...YOU ARE VERY COOL...BUT...BUT...I MUST FULFILL MY LIFELONG DREAM! POWERFUL! POPULAR! PRESTIGIOUS! PAPYRUS! THE NEWEST MEMBER OF THE ROYAL GUARD!” So Papyrus prepared his fighting stance by blocking their way, and Frisk took a deep breath as they were ready to defend themselves but chose not to attack him.
“SO YOU WON’T FIGHT? THEN, LET’S SEE IF YOU CAN HANDLE MY FABLED BLUE ATTACK!” He cried out. Papyrus summoned his ghostly-colored blue bones from the snowy ground and the sky. Frisk stood their ground as his attacks went through them with no damage taken, but then they felt a tingling and noticed their SOUL had changed color to BLUE, which caused them to feel heavy somehow. “YOU’RE BLUE NOW. THAT’S MY ATTACK! NYEH HEH HEH HEH HEH HEH HEH HEH HEH!!!" Papyrus gloated.
*THUMP THUMP* *THUMP THUMP*
Frisk was shaken in apprehension as their SOUL was racing. Still, they stayed determined as Papyrus summoned his attack and then dodged by jumping, which seemed to impress him as he never expected them to avoid his attacks so quickly.
“YEAH! DON’T MAKE ME USE MY SPECIAL ATTACK!” Papyrus called out as he summoned more waves of bones at them, including the overhead bones, so they managed to dodge and duck down to avoid the attacks. Several minutes have gone by. Frisk was still dodging the tall skeleton’s bone attacks while Papyrus was trying to capture them while he kept going on about his dreams of being in the Royal Gaurd by gaining popularity.
More bones were summoned, and the young teen was getting tired as they slowly lost their breath but still refused to give up, so they kept going. Dodging after dodging, Papyrus was finally ready to pull his final surprise attack, so he gained his composure and gave them a full fierce expression.
“BEHOLD...! MY SPECIAL ATTACK!” He boasted, and just as he was about to use it, a random white dog appeared out of nowhere and began munching his special bone. “WHAT THE HECK! THAT’S MY SPECIAL ATTACK! HEY! YOU STUPID DOG! DO YOU HEAR ME!? STOP MUNCHING ON THAT BONE!!!” The little white dog picked it up and ran off, wagging its tail at him. "HEY!!! WHAT ARE YOU DOING!!! COME BACK HERE WITH MY SPECIAL ATTACK!!!" Papyrus yelled in frustration, then sighed, "... OH WELL. I'LL JUST USE A REALLY COOL REGULAR ATTACK."
Frisk didn't understand what had just happened and why the white dog took off, so they mentally prepared themselves for Papyrus's "regular attack." Papyrus was disappointed that he didn't get a chance to show off his attack, no thanks to the dog, so he went full force on his bone attacks, and the young teen took a step back and headed straight on and jumped over them as best as they could til a huge bone appeared. This giant bone was almost as big as a dinosaur, but Frisk filled themselves with determination and jumped, but somehow they were gliding over it.
"I-I did it!" They mentally praised themselves as they were trying to catch their breath. "I-I managed to defeat Papyrus without attacking him" Papyrus, however, was all tired out after a long fight with Frisk, so he took a heavy breather till he could speak in triumphant.
"WELL...! 'HUFF' IT'S CLEAR... YOU CAN'T! 'HUFF' DEFEAT ME!!! YEAH!!! I CAN SEE YOU SHAKING IN YOUR BOOTS!!! THEREFORE I, THE GREAT PAPYRUS, ELECT TO GRANT YOU PITY!! I WILL SPARE YOU, HUMAN!!! NOW'S YOUR CHANCE TO ACCEPT MY MERCY." He explained to them as he offered Frisk a hug to show his MERCY to them.
As tired as they were, Frisk walked slowly toward Papyrus, but their legs gave out on them as they were about to collapse on the snowy ground Papyrus caught them in time. "HUMAN! ARE YOU ALRIGHT?!" He asked in concern about his new friend. The thirteen-year-old child looked at him with a tired expression, nodded, and softly spoke, "Y-yeah, I'm just...tired, like really tired."
"WORRY NOT! I, THE GREAT PAPYRUS, WILL CARRY YOU BACK TO MY HOUSE IN SNOWDIN!" Papyrus said in a charismatic tone as he carried the human teen back to his place. As Papyrus made it to his home, he carefully opened the door and noticed Sans was on the couch waiting for him.
"heya, bro," Sans spoke in his normal casual attitude, "i see the kiddo passed out, so i take it that you spared them?" He got off the couch, so Papyrus could gently lay the tired human teen on the only couch they got in their house. Both brothers looked at each other and then back at the sleeping human; without a discussion, they walked upstairs to talk privately in Sans's room.
Later that night, as everyone was sleeping, Frisk murmured in their sleep as they were dreaming about something. "Mmmmm, huh?" They groan as their eyes barely open "where...where am I?" The scene became clearer as they were in a dream-like dimension. Frisk slowly got up then they felt a slight pitch on their chest like their SOUL was responding, "AUGH!" They moaned, "What..what is going on? Why does my SOUL hurt?"
As they looked up, Frisk's eyes widened as they saw what looked like a shadow apparition of a person from a distance, and the young teen was reluctant to get close, but they went towards the strange person until they met an invisible barrier. Soon they heard a voice like it was talking to them from the other side of this inter-dimension-like realm.

"Our...SOUL?? Time and Space??" Frisk breathed out as they tried to understand what this person was talking about. Then they lose the connection to that person, and they woke up. Frisk looked around and noticed they were inside the skeleton brother's house, but it was still late at night, so they went back to sleep as they recuperated for the next part of their journey.
Notes:
YAY!! I finished chapter nine!! And today is Zarla's undertale fan-comic Handplates's 7th anniversary, so at least I can semi-celebrate by uploading this new chapter, right? I hope you guys like my version of "Are we connected?" no, it's not related to Deltarune or any sort. I had this idea swimming around in my mind, and just a spoiler warning, both Gaster and Zeyada have DT inside their SOUL. Why? It has something to do with a terrible illness spreading across their homeland long ago before the war started between humans and monsters. Their father created a "medicine" that would cure them both...but failed to realize that it could lead to some side effects.

Chapter Text
Dawn of a new morning arrived in Snowdin as Papyrus was already awake from his great sleep. The taller skeleton seemed very excited now that he had made a new friend yesterday and wanted to make a good impression by making breakfast. As Papyrus came out of his room fully dressed in regular clothes, he quietly went downstairs and headed toward the kitchen to start cooking. Around the same time, Sans showed up in the kitchen, grabbed himself a bottle of ketchup from the fridge, and sat down at the kitchen table.
“mornin, bro,” Sans spoke as he opened the ketchup bottle and started drinking it. “i see you’re making breakfast since you befriended a human.” Papyrus turns his head at his brother with a proud smile and admiration as he is wearing his favorite apron: ‘Bone-afide Chef,’ while holding a frying pan with eggs and bacon.
“INDEED I AM, DEAR BROTHER!” Papyrus said enthusiastically, “I WANT TO MAKE A GOOD IMPRESSION SINCE THE TINY HUMAN IS NOT ONLY OUR HONORED GUEST BUT MY NEWEST FRIEND.” He posed with greatness as he placed the dinner plates and silverware on the table, including breakfast, while waiting for the human child, Frisk, to wake up from their slumber. “THEN, AFTER BREAKFAST, I, THE GREAT PAPYRUS, WILL SHOW THEM AROUND THE HOUSE!”
Sans couldn’t help but grin because he always wanted his brother to be happy, and seeing him happy gave him a sense of relief. While it’s true that Papyrus has insecurities, Sans can only expect that Frisk could treat his brother with kindness by being his friend. After all, he is the GREAT Papyrus, the coolest brother Sans could ever have, and nothing in this world could replace him. Then both brothers heard a yawn coming from the living room, and sure enough, the thirteen-year-old child woke up from their sleep as they sat up from the couch. Frisk then got off the couch and went toward the kitchen, where Sans and Papyrus were at the kitchen table waiting for them.
“AH, HELLO, HUMAN!” Papyrus greeted them, “I AM SO GLAD THAT YOUR AWAKE. I JUST FINISHED MAKING BREAKFAST AND ALREADY SET YOUR PLATES FOR YOU!”
The young teen sat down and looked at their plates with eggs, bacon, and...dog? The annoying dog was sitting on the kitchen table munching on Papyrus’s special bone, which might be the same bone that the canine was chewing on yesterday during their fight, and by the taller skeleton’s reaction, he wasn’t too pleased to see him again.
“WHAT THE?!?” Papyrus screeched, “CATCH THAT MEDDLING POOCH!” The white dog hopped off the table and ran off before Frisk even got the reaction to catch the annoying dog. “DOGGONIT!” He sighed in frustration. “CURSES! I REALLY DESPISE THAT DOG!”
“finally, a perfect opportunity to tease my brother.” Sans thought while grinning as he magically brought his trombone from who knows where and played a few small notes.
Da Da Dum!
“SANS! STOP PLAGUING MY LIFE WITH INCIDENTAL MUSIC!” Papyrus yelled as he stomped his foot. “AND PLEASE PUT YOUR FOOT OFF THE TABLE; THAT’S BAD MANNERS!”
“ok,” Sans said with his cheeky grin as he detached his leg to make Papyrus assume he had taken his “foot off the table.”
“SANS! YOU KNOW DAMN WELL WHAT I MEAN BY PUT YOUR FOOT OFF THE TABLE!” Papyrus grumbled as he facepalmed.
“ok,” Sans said again as he reattached his leg.
Frisk giggled as they couldn’t help witnessing the two brothers having silly arguments at the kitchen table. Then the young teen started eating breakfast that Papyrus had made for them; the flavor was delicious, and their eyes sparkled in delight.
“Wow, Papyrus’s homemade breakfast is pretty good,” They thought while eating. “It’s a shame that no one else likes his cuisine.” After they were done, Papyrus took their plates and offered them fresh clothes as he guided them upstairs to the bathroom on their right, which was almost close to Sans’s room. The young teen thanked him and went inside to get cleaned up, while the taller skeleton went to the laundry room to wash clothes and glanced at his brother sleeping on the hamper...again.
“LAZYBONES,” he mutters quietly, “AND I BET HE DIDN’T PICK UP THAT DAMN SOCK THAT IS STILL LAYING ON THE LIVING ROOM FLOOR!”
Moments passed as Frisk came out in new clean clothes wearing a Deltarune robe; while it was a little too big for them, the clothing seemed ambiguous, like they felt they had worn the garments before but couldn’t remember when. But how the skeleton brothers obtained it was somewhat a mystery. They do recall talking to the shopkeeper about the brothers, and she explains that the two skeletons just showed up one day and fit right in with the rest of the towns folks in Snowdin, or so she says in any way. So the thirteen-year-old child went downstairs to find Papyrus at the living room table, feeding a rock while Sans was napping on the couch. This was something Frisk found a bit odd as they raised their eyebrow, trying to understand why there was a rock on a plate covered in sprinkles.
“Hello, Papyrus,” Frisk said as they tried not to be awkward toward their host while conversing. “Is that your pet rock or something?”
“HMMM?” Papyrus hummed in confusion as he turned his head at the human teen. “OH, HELLO THERE, HUMAN, AND NO, THIS PET ROCK IS MY BROTHER’S,” Papyrus explained to them as he placed the sprinkles back on the table. “HE ALWAYS FORGETS TO FEED IT, SO AS USUAL, I HAVE TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY.”
The thirteen-year-old child admires Papyrus quite a lot as they see him as the coolest guy to hang around with since he takes care of Sans most of the time. So with that, Papyrus offers them a grand tour around his and Sans’s house, so once again, he leads Frisk upstairs to his room to let them explore around to let their curious mind wonders for a bit.
“Wow!” Frisk spoke in amazement as they looked around the room. “Your room looks so cool!!” They looked around as the young teen was impressed with Papyrus’s bedroom as it was filled with cool stuff like his amazing racecar bed, action figures, a pirate flag, a bookshelf with complex tomes about puzzle creation, and children’s books, a computer opened up to a social media website, a box of bones, and a closet with clothes neatly hung up inside.
“NYEH HEH HEH! WHY THANK YOU, HUMAN!” Papyrus spoke proudly, “MY ROOM IS THE GREATEST, FOR I, THE GREAT PAPYRUS, WORKED SO HARD TO GET MY BEDROOM JUST A PERFECT AS ME!” then he realized he forgot to were his glasses again, so the tall skeleton went towards his computer deck and placed his glasses on his face.
“WHOOPIES, I NEARLY FORGOT TO WEAR MY GLASSES,” He mentally noted to himself. “I HAVE TO REMIND MYSELF THE NEXT TIME I WEAR THEM AROUND THE HOUSE!”
Frisk came up to the box filled with bones and noticed that one of the bones had a skull-shaped creature.
“Hey, Papyrus?” The young teen called out to him, “What’s this skull-shaped creature doing in this box with all the other bones?”
“OH! THAT IS MY SPECIAL ATTACK!” Papyrus answered, “HOW LUCKY OF YOU! HAD I ONLY USED MY SPECIAL ATTACK, YOU SURELY WOULD HAVE BEEN BLASTED TO SMITHEREENS!”
Did they hear him right? Did the GREAT Papyrus say, “Blasted to smithereens!”? Just how strong is he? Frisk gulped and shuddered at the thought of being blasted by Papyrus’s special attack; seems morbid. But they are curious even though the annoying dog didn’t let the tall skeleton show his true potential yesterday, so would today be any different?
“IF YOU LIKE, I, THE GREAT PAPYRUS, WILL DEMONSTRATE MY SPECIAL ATTACK!” Papyrus said as he posed with dignity. “BUT IT’S BEST IF I SHOW THEM TO YOU OUTSIDE!”
Frisk nodded as they took his offer, so they left the room and headed downstairs while Sans was waiting for them.
“where are you guys off to in such a hurry?” Sans curiously asked as they were about to head out the door.
“Your brother, Papyrus, is going to show me his special attack,” the thirteen-year-old child responded with excitement “...wait? does that mean you have a special attack too?”
Sans chuckled and nodded, saying, “yeah, kid, i do have a special attack, and it’s called a Gaster Blaster and KARMA.”
“Gaster Blaster??” They said curiously, “So Papyrus’s special attack is a Gaster Blaster as well?”
“well, yes, you’ll be surprised once he shows them to you,” Sans spoke, then he shrugged, “and as for me, im too bone-tired.”
Frisk groans at his horrible jokes as they facepalmed, and Papyrus glare at him.
“SANS!!!”
“aww, common, you know my puns are as humerus as it gets,” Sans jokingly, nudging his brother with a cheeky permanent smile.
“UGH, LET’S GET GOING BEFORE I START TO LOSE MY SKULL WITH HIS LOW-EFFORT PUNS!” Papyrus expressed in annoyance as he led the young teen out the door.
Frisk waved goodbye to Sans as they went outside the house with Papyrus to see more cool things he could do with his bone attacks. The shorter skeleton decided that its best for him to come outside and sit on the porch, watching them play around as Papyrus showed the young human teen his special attack. After all, Frisk hasn’t harmed anyone, and they still have a long way to go to reach the CAPITAL, so seeing them playing with his brother and being his friend felt reassuring despite everything he and Papyrus have been through.
“NOW WATCH CLOSELY, TINY HUMAN!” Papyrus instructed them, “FOR I, THE GREAT PAPYRUS, WILL NOW SUMMON MY GASTER BLASTER!” So the young teen watched while Papyrus closed his eyes as he concentrated on summoning his special attack. Then within a few minutes, a floating skull-like creature appeared before the human teen’s eyes, and by the shape of the skull, it looked like a dragon. And it looks goofy, too, with its googly eyesockets.
“W-whoa, that thing is what a Gaster Blaster looks like??” They mentally noted as Frisk’s eyes sparkled with interest. “I-I wanna learn it...but why is my pulse racing? I don’t understand.” The blaster looked at Frisk as it hovered over them with a curious expression, then it nuzzled the young human teen as it was telling them, “Hello, new friend, do you wanna play?”
“HUMAN! THIS IS MY SPECIAL ATTACK,” Papyrused introduces them. “HIS NAME IS FRECKLES!” The thirteen-year-old shyly smiled at Freckles as they petted him gently, which seemed to like to be petted as he chirped happily.
“Hello, Freckles,” They spoke as the young teen greeted, “it’s nice to meet you.” Freckles chirped as he flew around them; he wanted Frisk to play with him, so Frisk looked at Papyrus to see if it was okay with them playing with his blasters, and surprisingly he gave them a simple nod and watched Freckles and the human teen playing together as he sat down next to his brother Sans.
“heh, looks like your special attack took a liking to the kid,” Sans commented, seeing them playing fetch with a snowball; then he sighed. “they have a long way to go to the capital, and their next destination is the waterfall taverns.” Papyrus understood what Sans was saying because it was true that Frisk still had to travel from Snowdin Town to NEW HOME, and then there was a Captain of the royal guard Undyne whom the young teen had to be on the lookout for.
“speaking of which, did you tell our boss?” Sans asked as he and Papyrus closely watched the blaster and Frisk. “you are planning to give your reports, right? since the canine unit failed to capture the human and you befriended them.”
“NO, I HAVEN’T TOLD UNDYNE YET,” Papyrus admittedly spoke, “BUT I WILL TELL HER TOMORROW WHEN THE TINY HUMAN IS READY TO LEAVE FOR WATERFALL!”
Many hours later, the skeleton brothers and Frisk were back inside, having dinner, and tonight was Papyrus’s home-cooked spaghetti, which, of course, he doesn’t eat his cooking as he prefers oatmeal with dinosaur eggs. Sans being his usual self, makes jokes as Papyrus playfully shouts at him about his awful puns again, while the young human still finds the brothers’ shenanigans amusing. After dinner, the young human teen went upstairs to the washroom to get cleaned up after a long day of playing snowball fetch with Papyrus’s special attack, whom he named Freckles; then they came out all clean as they were wearing the same pajama’s that the innkeeper gave them as a thank you gift for being a nice traveler. Later in the evening, Sans, Papyrus, and Frisk watched MTT’S Gameshow as the three competitors on the show tried answering Mettaton’s questions on live TV; the thirteen-year-old child didn’t seem to take all that interest in the show as most of the questions were too simple for their liking or they find it boring.
Soon it was getting late Papyrus, and Sans wished the human teen goodnight as they went straight upstairs to their bedroom while Frisk lays comfortably on the couch. As Frisk closed their eyes and fell asleep, a certain flower had been watching them, hiding behind the shed and growing tired since nothing interesting had happened.
“Ugh, why is there nothing interesting transpired yet?” Flowey mumbled, “I can’t get any closer to them since that smiling trashbag is still lurking around.” then he devilishly grinned as he realized that Frisk still had to face Undyne. “Oh, but that pacifistic idiot will have to face Undyne once they get through Waterfall,” he mused. “What will they do then? KILL or be a weak little brat by showing her MERCY because I know she won’t give them any MERCY by the time she sees them; after all, they are nothing but tools for everyone’s hopes and dreams.” then the creepy golden flower borrowed into the ground as he disappeared for the rest of the night.

UGH! why am I so slow at writing?! Here's chapter ten, and boy, this chapter was hard to come up with some ideas, let me tell you. You guys are wondering why I named Papyrus's special attack Freckles because why not? The name is perfectly fitting for it. Get ready for the next chapter because this will involve easter eggs like Goner Kid, Goner Clam, and the Gray door since you can only interact with them through FUN Value.
Huh, the Deltarune robe looks very, very familiar

Chapter Text
It was morning; the taller skeleton named Papyrus was making breakfast as Frisk, the thirteen-year-old child, was putting their stuff into the satchel and preparing to leave for their long journey to the next destination, Waterfall. As much as they wanted to stay in the Underground, they missed their home and family back on the surface, but how can the young teenager get back home knowing they had to face ASGORE? Then there’s the Barrier they have to deal with. It was the main issue since the old history books claimed that humans sealed the monsters to the Underground with a powerful spell creating what is known as the Barrier. Still, they were determined to return home, and surely there must be another way to leave without anyone getting killed, right? While they were packing, Papyrus came up to Frisk and handed them a container filled with leftover dinner.
“HERE YOU GO, HUMAN!” Papyrus spoke proudly, “I, THE GREAT PAPYRUS, PACKED YOU SOME OF MY HOMECOOKED SPAGHETTI FOR YOUR TRAVEL TO WATERFALL!”
Frisk smiled at him, placed their lunch into their inventory for safekeeping, and gave Papyrus a friendly hug for being a great host and friend. The young teen followed Papyrus back to the kitchen to eat breakfast so they could have plenty of vitality on the long road ahead, while Sans had already left for his sentry duty since his station was located at the entranceway of the cavern. While they were eating, Frisk looked at the tall skeleton and thought for a bit that maybe they should ask him about King Asgore, so they know what they were dealing with and why he needed to collect the human SOULs so badly and, more importantly, how to get to NEW HOME.
“Hey, Papyrus, can I ask you a question?” They asked.
“OH, OF COURSE, TINY HUMAN. I HAVE ALL THE ANSWERS YOU NEED, SO PLEASE ASK AWAY!” Papyrus responded cheerfully.
“What does King Asgore look like? And why does he need the royal guards to capture a human like me?” Frisk asked as they averted their gaze from him. “Did...did something happen that caused him to hate humans?”
Papyrus’s eyes widen when they ask him such a question, and he sighs that some answers are best left unsaid. But he is bad at lying, so it was best if the young teen learned about Asgore and why he wanted him to capture the humans because the whole monsters who lived in the Underground wanted to see the surface for the first time in many centuries.
“UM, HATE IS A STRONG VOCABULARY, HUMAN,” Papyrus commented as he shook his head in disapproval. “ASGORE DOESN’T HATE ANYONE FOR HE IS... ...WELL... HE’S A BIG FUZZY PUSHOVER! EVERYBODY LOVES THAT GUY.”
Frisk wanted to say something to Papyrus that not everyone loved Asgore as they remembered how Toriel mentioned his name with bitterness as she tried to stop them from leaving the Ruins. But they stayed quiet and did not say anything else as he explained further.
“THE KING OF MONSTERS WANTED THE HUMANS’ SOULS SO HE COULD SET US ALL FREE FROM THE UNDERGROUND!” He explained, “THAT’S WHY HE ORDER THE ROYAL GUARDS SUCH AS MYSELF, OF COURSE, TO CAPTURE YOU BECAUSE IT TAKES A BOSS MONSTER SOUL AND A POWERFUL HUMAN SOUL TO DESTROY THE BARRIER!” The thirteen-year-old child gulped and was shaken by this new information, but they still didn’t learn what caused the gentle king to harm a human.
“BUT DO NOT FRET, TINY HUMAN,” Papyrus reassures them. “I AM CERTAIN IF YOU SAY... ‘EXCUSE ME, MR. DREEMURR... CAN I PLEASE GO HOME?’ HE’LL GUIDE YOU RIGHT TO THE BARRIER HIMSELF!” How does Papyrus know so much about King Asgore? He could be a good friend to the king. Only one way to find out for sure.
“Papyrus, you seem to know so much about the King of monsters,” Frisk curiously looks at him. “Is he your friend?”
“NYEH HEH HEH! WELL, KING ASGORE WAS OUR CARETAKER AT ONE POINT WHEN HE DISCOVERED MY BROTHER AND ME OUTSIDE OF THE WALKWAY OF THE CORE UNCONSCIOUS, WHICH IS CONNECTED TO THE TRUE LAB.” As he thoughtfully remembered the great moments, Papyrus said, “THEN OUR UNCLE TOOK US IN AND RAISED US, AND THE REST IS HISTORY.”
Frisk nodded to Papyrus as they thanked him for his clarification. “Oh! Can you tell me how I get to NEW HOME if it’s too much trouble?”
“WHY CERTAINLY HUMAN! TO REACH NEW HOME, YOU MUST ADVANCE TO THE CAVERNS, WHICH LEADS INTO WATERFALL,” He proudly explains to them. “GO PASS THROUGH TEMMIE VILLAGE. SOON, YOU’LL CROSS A LONG BRIDGE. THERE, YOU WILL BE AT HOTLAND. THEN YOU’LL GO ACROSS HOTLAND, MAKE YOUR WAY INSIDE THE CORE. AND FINALLY, YOU HAVE REACHED THE CAPITAL OF THE UNDERGROUND, NEW HOME.” Then Papyrus checked his watch as it was time for him to leave for his sentry duty, and before he bolted out of the house, he quickly went back to grab his glasses and gave Frisk his number.
“Uh? Why did you hand me your number?” They asked in confusion.
“IN CASE YOU EVER NEEDED ANY OF MY ASSISTANCE,” He said, while he posed with greatness, “SO I, THE GREAT PAPYRUS, WILL BE THERE TO SAVE YOU! NYEHEHEHE!!” And with that, he left at the speed of light while Frisk chuckled as Papyrus’s levity still amused them.
Soon after Papyrus was gone, Frisk grabbed their belongings and left the brother’s household, heading to the end of the Town of Snowdin towards the cavern. As they got there, the young human turned their head as if they could’ve sworn someone was watching them, but there was no one in sight, so Frisk shrugged it off and kept going until they saw a familiar short skeleton at his station sleeping like usual, a monster standing right next to some cyan color flower and a bipedal dino/dragon monster wearing a yellowish striped sweater who took notice of them and ran up to Frisk in excitement.
“Yo, Are you that same kid I’ve seen strolling around through Snowdin and hanging out with those weird skeleton brothers?” The kid asked, smiling as they wagged their tail. Frisk didn’t know what to expect as they had never met this kid, or they did but didn’t have the chance to speak to them, so this could be a good opportunity to talk to this excitable monster.
“Um, yes, I am,” They answered shyly. “Why do you ask?”
The young monster beamed as they ran around them in circles as if they had never seen a human or another kid around their age before, giving poor Frisk light-headedness for seeing this strange kid spinning around them excessively.
“This is so cool!” The kid said excitedly, “I found a new friend who can go with me to see Undyne, and you’re wearing a striped sweater, and you wear glasses too! That’s even more awesome!!”
“Undyne? Who’s that?” The thirteen-year-old child asked, given that Papyrus mentioned her name a few times.
The young monster grinned at them. “Undyne, the most fearsome and coolest royal guardsman in the ENTIRE Underground. I want to be like her one day, and...oh geez, here I go again, rambling on, not introducing myself. Sorry about that. Ahem, I’m Monster Kid. I’m a monster and a kid...buuuuut everyone else calls me MK for short.”
Frisk meekly smiled and giggled as they already took a fondness to their new friend MK and introduced themselves. “My name is Frisk.”
“Frisk, huh?” MK spoke as they smiled at them, “YO!! That’s a cool name!”
Then MK suddenly realized that they had to see their favorite idol Undyne. “Oh shoot, I have to go now. But, hey, Frisk, if you decided to go back to Snowdin and run into my parents... don’t tell them I’m here, okay?” The young monster playfully laughed and ran off in plain sight.
“They seemed very lively to meet their hero.” Frisk thought as they smiled amongst themselves. “Maybe I’ll run into them again.” So the young teen pressed onward until they came across Sans, fully awake from his nap, waving at them as he was still sitting at his sentry station.
“heya, kiddo,” Sans greeted them, being his lazy self as they came up to him, “off to another adventure, huh?”
They nodded. “Yeah, it’s a long trip, but I’ll manage as long I don’t get into fights which I probably will at some point.”
Then Sans got up from his sentry station as he was about to take another direction from Snowdin. “hey, how about you take a break and go with me to grillby’s? as a guy with two jobs, im required to have twice as many breaks.”
“I suppose it wouldn’t hurt to take a nice breather before I continue, so yes,” Frisk said as they kindly took his offer.
“great, just follow me ’cause i know a shortcut,” he grinned as he held out his hands to them.
As Frisk held his hands, the short skeleton teleported each other back into Snowdin inside Grillby’s pub and bar. The young human felt sick to the stomach as they had a slight motion sickness from Sans’s “shortcut.”
“Ugh, I feel woozy,” they murmured as Frisk tried to catch their balance.
Sans gently pats the young teen’s back. “sorry about that, kiddo, i should’ve given you a heads up that my shortcuts can give anyone motion sickness.”
It took a couple of minutes for Frisk to regain their balance as Sans led them to the bar stool, and everyone was eager to see Sans again.
“Hi, Sans.”
“Hey, Sans.”
“Hiya, Sansy-”
“Greetings, Sans.”
Frisk was surprised that everyone seemed to know Sans very well, and they speculated he must be a regular here, so the young teen asked, “Sans? How come everyone in here knows you?”
Sans grinned as he pulled out his ketchup bottle. “well, kiddo, i usually come here to eat and make bad jokes, and sometimes i take my brother with me.” He took a drink of his ketchup and spoke again, “although he’s not a big fan of this diner because he thinks it’s too greasy and unhealthy.”
Grillby, the bartender, approached Sans and Frisk; he looked at them with a welcoming smile and signed, “Hello again, Sans and little human. What can I get for you today?”
[Burger] ❤ [Fries]
[Fries]❤
Frisk signed back to Grillby, responding, “I would like to have some fries if you please.”
Sans was surprised that the human knew sign language as the fire monster wrote down their order on his notepad. “so they understood sign language impressive.” The short skeleton ponders as he takes another sip of his ketchup. “hmmm, I wonder what else this kid has to offer?”
“And you? Sans, just your usual?” Grillby asked.
Sans nods. “yeah, another bottle of ketchup, and i’ll take some fries to go.”
After Grillby wrote down his order, the flame monster went to the kitchen to prepare their meal; while Frisk and Sans waited for Grillby to bring their food, the short skeleton drank the last bit of ketchup then casually asked them a question, “so, what do you think about my brother?”
Frisk smiled. “He’s pretty cool. You’re lucky to have the coolest brother.”
“heh, thanks, kiddo,” Sans grinned, “you know, you’d be cool too if you that outfit every day. in fact, my brother only takes that costume off if he absolutely had to. oh well, at least he washes it. and by that, i mean he wears it in the shower.” Frisk giggled at Sans’s story about his brother as they couldn’t believe that Papyrus would wear his battle body while in the shower, and the idea of him doing it seemed too good to be true.
“oh hey, here comes grillby bringing out the grub,” Sans said as Grillby appeared from the kitchen and brought two baskets of fries and Sans’s bottle of ketchup; then he placed their meal in front of them.
“Enjoy your meal.” The fire monster spoke as he signed.
“thanks, grillby,” Sans thanked him for the food. “wants some ketchup?”
“No, I don’t like ketchup all that much,” Frisk said as they took a bite of their fries. “Thanks for the offer, but you seem to enjoy it more than I do.”
He shrugged. “oh well, more for me.” Sans took a big gulp as he drank the entire ketchup; Frisk looked baffled as they didn’t comprehend how Sans enjoyed drinking that stuff, so they didn’t question it. “anyway, cool or not, you have to agree that my brother papyrus tries real hard.” Sans explains to them, “like how he keeps trying to be part of the royal guard. i do recall that one time he went to the house of the head of the royal guard and begged her to let him be in it. of course, she shut the door on him because it was midnight, but the next day, she woke up and saw him still waiting there. seeing his dedication, she decided to give him warrior training. it’s, uh, still a working progress.”
Frisk smiled as they seemed quite impressed by how Papyrus was so committed to being in the royal guard, and hearing Sans’s story made them feel proud somehow.
“oh, yeah. there’s something i wanted to ask you,” Sans spoke in realization as he turned his head toward them; the entire room was put on pause. “have you ever heard of a talking flower?”
The thirteen-year-old child’s blood went cold as they knew a specific talking flower that came to mind...Flowey, so they nodded without saying a word.
Sans takes notice of the kid’s expression as if there’s something on their mind but thinks nothing of it at first glance. “so you know all about it. the echo flower. they’re all over the marsh. say something to them, and they’ll repeat it over and over...” he paused for a moment, then he spoke again, “it’s strange, especially when papyrus told me something interesting the other day. sometimes, when no one else is around...a flower appears and whispers things to him. flattery...advice...encouragement...predictions.” Frisk stays silent as they keep listening to Sans’s tale. “weird, huh? someone must be using an echo flower to play a trick on him. so try to keep an eye out, okay?”
Frisk nodded and softly spoke. “O-Okay, I’ll keep an eye out.”
He sighed in relief as he got off the bar stool. “Thanks, buddy.” then Sans turns and grins at them. “heh, i can’t believe i let ya pull me away from work for that long. since i’m flat broke, can you foot the bill?” The human teen looks at him with an unamused face at why they had to pay for their meal since he was the one who invited them.
Sans chuckled. “eh, don’t worry about kid, i’m just messing with ya. oh, and here, i want you to keep this safe.” The short skeleton handed Frisk a peculiar key that could lead to something very important. “this key that i’m giving you leads to the old workshop behind my house, so don’t lose it, okay?” Then as he walked away from them and was about to teleport, he looked back at Grillby and spoke, “put it on my tab, and i’ll pay you back whenever i feel like it.”
Soon after Sans left, Frisk paid for the food as they were a bit disappointed that he had them walk back to Waterfall on foot. So they traveled again towards the cavern into the same scenic room, continuing straight towards the next room where falling rocks were going down the Waterfall and a Dimensional Box. They noticed an echo flower close by the bridge, so the thirteen-year-old walked across it and touched the flower, and heard a passing conversation:
I swore I saw something...
Behind that rushing water...
“I wonder what they saw?” They wondered, “Only one way to find out.” So they backtracked to the left, allowing them to attempt to cross the waterfall again, heading toward the hidden room behind the waterfall, and discovered an abandoned Old Tutu laying on the ground.
Frisk tilted their head as to why anyone would leave a cute pink Tutu behind like that, but as they took a closer look, it was dusty; surely someone would come back for it, right? So Frisk took the old tutu and placed it in their inventory in case they might need to wear it. Then they left while exiting the waterfall room that leads to the “Hallway,” a room with a patch of tall grass. Frisk quickly hid within the patches of grass as they looked up and noticed a figure standing above them alone. An unspecified royal guard looked more serious and deadly while waiting for someone; then the young teen heard a voice that sounded like Papyrus as he came up to the royal guard to give his daily report, it seemed.
“H... HI, UNDYNE! I’M HERE WITH MY DAILY REPORT,” Papyrus nervously spoke, hoping she wouldn’t be too disappointed when he delivered the news. “UHHH... REGARDING THAT HUMAN I CALLED YOU ABOUT EARLIER...”
Undyne turned to him and asked, “Did you fight them?”
“Y-YES! OF COURSE, I DID!” He answered plainly, averting his gaze from her, “I FOUGHT THEM VALIANTLY!” Frisk stays silent as they overhear their conversation, and it seems Papyrus feels anxious about this situation.
“Good. Did you capture them?” She asked earnestly.
"W-W-WELL...NO." Papyrus told her, in all honesty.
“WHAT?” Undyne shouted in disbelief. “WHAT DO YOU MEAN ‘NO’?”
Papyrus looks down and sees his new friend down below in the patches of grass; then, he looks at Undyne. “I-I’M SORRY, UNDYNE,” He apologized as he calmly explained. “I TRIED VERY HARD, BUT IN THE END...I FAILED.”
She sighed. “It’s okay, Papyrus. I’ll take that human SOUL myself.”
Frisk covered their mouth and shook in fear as they couldn’t believe that this Undyne person would willingly hunt them down for their SOUL. As Papyrus’s eyes widen, he doesn’t like the idea of his best friend hurting his new friend just for their SOUL, even though his uncle took a human SOUL long ago, but this is different because Frisk was his friend, and it’s his duty as the Royal Gaurd to protecting the people he cared, and he knows that monsters turn to dust when they die...but seeing a human die was a whole different ball game.
“W-WHAT? YOU’RE GOING TO TAKE THE HUMAN’S SOUL YOURSELF...” The tall skeleton breathed out and implored her to change her mind. “BUT UNDYNE, YOU DON’T H-HAVE TO DESTROY THEM! YOU SEE...” Papyrus paused, then spoke again, “YOU SEE...”
“Look, Papyrus, I know you don’t like seeing everyone getting hurt, but humans are dangerous,” Undyne expressed in concern while placing her hands on Papyrus’s shoulder. “We’ve been trapped here for too long, and that human is our one-way ticket out of this hellhole! Asgore will set us all to freedom! And take back the surface that the humans had once taken from us.” Papyrus stayed quiet, as Undyne says, “So it’s our responsibility as the Royal Guard to apprehend them and bring them to Asgore to be executed. Do you understand what I’m saying, Papyrus?”
“...I UNDERSTAND. I’LL HELP YOU IN ANY WAY I CAN.” That was all he could say as Papyrus glanced at his human friend, who was still hiding in the patches of grass; he could tell they were petrified by what they heard and made it his mission to keep them safe and out of Undyne’s sight. “I KNOW JUST WHAT TO DO,” He thought. “MAYBE I CAN PERSUADE UNDYNE TO BE FRIENDS WITH A HUMAN WITHOUT RESORTING TO VIOLENCE!”
“That’s the spirit! I knew I could count on you!” She said proudly, “So hop to it!”
And with that, he left as the poor child couldn’t stay there any longer, so they tried to leave quietly without the murderous royal guard noticing them. But the sound of the rustling grass caught her attention as she summoned one of her spears, so they stopped moving, waiting for Undyne to leave. As several minutes passed, Undyne backed away and vanished through the darkness. Thankfully Frisk managed to leave the patch of grass and noticed MK come out of their hiding spot and speak, “Yo...did you see how she was staring at you...? That...was AWESOME!”
Frisk nervously laughs. “Haha, y-yeah, so awesome...”
“I’m SOOOO jealous! What’d you do to get her attention...?” They excitedly asked.
“N-nothing really...” Frisk answered quietly, averting their gaze from their best friend. They clutch their satchel, fighting back their dread of possibly seeing Undyne again.
“Yo, dude, you okay?” MK asked in concern about their friend not knowing Frisk was a human.
Frisk silently nodded.
“Well, Okay, if you say so. Now let's go watch her beat up some bad guys!” MK said as they left in a hurry, out of sight again.
As the thirteen-year-old child headed their way, they noticed a SAVE point appeared, so they touched the sparkling star, and the voice was heard again.
*A feeling of dread hangs over you...
*But you stayed determined.

The next adventure deep within Waterfall Caverns continues.
Notes:
Praise Asgore, I have finally got chapter eleven done!! Sorry for taking so long. I had to split the Waterfall arc into two parts. So there's nothing much to say here on this, but don't worry, the Goner Kid will show up in part two of Waterfall. And if you guys want to know a small detail, the friendship between MK and Frisk is almost identical to Gaster and Alphys's friendship.
(Oh, MK, why you must be such an adorable little monster)
Fun fact: I headcanon that MK is Alphys's younger cousin

Chapter Text
As they advance directly to the next room, Frisk encounters a new puzzle mechanic in Waterfall, the Bridge Seed mechanics. The thirteen-year-old child looked around to see if there was any clue to solve this new puzzle until they glanced at the old glyphs describing how the bridge seed works. “When four Bridge seeds align in water, they will sprout.” They quietly read to themselves, “Huh, that’s an interesting tip. I wonder…” Frisk went towards a small gap of water that could lead to the other side of the next room, and from the corner of their eyes, they found four bridge seeds. Given what the glyph informed them, the young teen did just that and watched the strange plant spout into a literal plant-like bridge.
“Astounding! I have never seen such plants could do that in real life.” Frisk expressed in amazement. “My mom would be impressed with these types of plants.” So they pressed onward by crossing the planted bridge to the right exit of the room, then the young teen entered a larger room with another Bridge Seed puzzle. Within a few steps, the human teen encountered a new strange-looking monster named Aaron. He was a brown, muscular merhorse (or rather a sea horse) with a long, winding green tail and a twelve-pack; the centaur was too occupied to notice that the human was behind him since he was flexing his muscles at his reflection.
“E-excuse me? Mister?” Frisk spoke as they tried to get his attention, “Can you be so kind as to let me pass?”
The centaur turns his head and looks at them with a friendly grin and a hint of flirtiness. “Heya, short stuff, when did you pop out of nowhere?” He winks at them while flexing his muscles. “Hate to tell ya, but these biceps are off-limits.” Then he glances at them as his eyes narrow. “Hold on a minute. Are you the same human Undyne told everyone to keep on the lookout for?”
“Crap, what do I do?” They were nervously freaking out in their mind, so without thinking; Frisk flexed their muscles at him.
Aaron was surprised as the human flexed their muscles at him. “Flexing contest? Ok, flex more.” He said as the merhorse took this as a challenge. So he began flexing twice as hard to show off his twelve-pack while doing some poses to see if the human teen out beat him.
“Flex more, huh?” Frisk ponders as they are determined to beat this goofy contest. So they flexed again, even if their muscles weren’t that impressive.
“Nice!! I won’t lose, tho,” Aaron spoke in full confidence as he winked at them. So he flexed even harder until the final challenge; Frisk and Aaron flexed to see who would be the winner; the merhorse flexed so hard that he flexed himself out of the room.
The young teenager was baffled as they watched the merhorse float out of the room towards the Underground ceilings. “Ooookay, now I’ve seen everything.” So Frisk continued onward while solving more Bridge Seeds puzzles, and interesting enough, they found another room with a lonely bench and the echo flower. They looked around to see if there was anything else they could find, and sure enough, Frisk discovered an abandoned Quiche beneath the bench.
*(There's a lone quiche sitting underneath this bench.)
*(Will you take it?)
Take it ❤ Leave it.
Take it❤
*(You got the Abandoned Quiche.)
“Now, why would anyone leave a perfectly good Quiche underneath the bench like that?” Frisk said in disappointment, as it was automatically transferred into their inventory. “They could’ve at least given it to someone who wants it.” They walked up to the Echo flower to interact with it until they listened to a passing conversation, but the voice they heard appeared melancholy.
I just wasn’t ready for the responsibility.
Frisk was quiet momentarily as they felt sad for whoever said that and hoped they felt better. So they left the area and headed to the other side of the bridge, where they saw a cavern that could lead them to the next room. The young teen heard their CELL PHONE ringing, so they quickly pulled out their phone from the lab coat’s side pocket and answered. To their surprise, they heard a familiar voice on the other end of the call, Papyrus.
“HELLO! THIS IS PAPYRUS!!!” He communicated cheerily.
Frisk smiled and replied with a bit of a question. “Hello, Papyrus. Um, how did you get ahold of my number?”
“HMMM? HOW DID I GET THIS NUMBER...?” Papyrus asked as he remembered a few minutes ago that he was frantically dialing every random number to get to his human friend’s cell number. “IT WAS EASY!!!” He answered honestly. “I JUST DIALED EVERY NUMBER SEQUENTIALLY UNTIL I GOT YOURS!!! NYEH HEH HEH HEH!!” Then the tone of his voice changed as Papyrus sounded a bit nervous as he asked, “SO...WHAT ARE YOU WEARING...?”
The thirteen-year-old child’s mind went blank as they tried to comprehend what the taller skeleton had just asked them; then they answered. “Um, clothes? Why do you ask?”
“I’M...ASKING FOR A FRIEND. SHE THOUGHT SHE SAW YOU WEARING...” there was a long pause, then he spoke again. “WEARING A DUSTY TUTU. IS THAT TRUE? ARE YOU WEARING A DUSTY TUTU?”
*(What will you say?)
Yes ❤ No
Yes❤
“Yes, I am wearing a dusty tutu.” They told him, in all truthfulness.
“SO YOU ARE WEARING A DUSTY TUTU...GOT IT!!! WINK WINK!!! HAVE A NICE DAY! And don’t worry. I’ll do my best to keep you safe!” He whispered over the phone, and then he hung up.
“I hope Papyrus knows what he’s doing.” They whispered, “And I don’t know why Sans entrusted me with this key.” The thirteen-year-old pulls out the key that leads to the old workshop and puts it on the keychain for safekeeping. Then they went through the next room with many Echo Flowers and blue, glowing gems on the ceiling. Frisk was awed as they looked around this beautiful room. As they wandered through the room, the human teen came across another glyph that told them that they were in the Wishing Room and were curious about all the Echo flowers since every single one of them had something to say, so they listened very carefully to the passing conversations, and it seems that everyone wishes to see the stars again, except one was talking about their horoscope.
A long time ago, monsters would whisper their wishes to the stars in the sky. If you hoped with all your heart, your wishes would come true. Now, all we have are these sparkling stones on the ceiling...
Thousands of people wishing together can’t be wrong! The king will prove that.
C’mon, sis! Make a wish!
I wish my sister and I will see the real stars someday...
Ah...seems my horoscope is the same as last week’s...
Frisk smiled as they looked up at the sparkling stones, and they, too, whispered their wishes. “I-I wish...I wish to help free the monsters and let them live peacefully with everyone on the surface.”
As they progress to the right, Frisk finds a telescope. They look through it and notice a clue telling them to check the northern wall to find the room’s exit. So they headed to the northern wall like the clue told them, and sure enough, the wall opened for them to continue onward to the next room. The young human found themselves in an area full of water sausages and a long wooden bridge with several glyphs on the walls. Frisk went up to the glyphs for closer inspection, and the ancient old text gave them some good information about Humans and Monster Wars.
*(Ancient writing covers the walls...you can make out the words.)
“The War of Humans and Monsters.”
Why did the humans attack? Indeed, it seemed that they had nothing to fear. Humans are unbelievably strong. It would take the SOUL of nearly every monster... ...just to equal the power of a single human SOUL.
But humans have one weakness. Ironically, it is the strength of their SOUL
Its power allows it to persist outside the human body, even after death.
If a monster defeats a human, they can take its SOUL. A monster with a human SOUL...a horrible beast with unfathomable power.
Frisk gulped as they seemed concerned by this new detail, so they came across the last ancient glyphs with an illustration of some sort.
*(It’s an illustration of a strange creature... there’s something very unsettling about this drawing.)
“That illustration...where have I seen it?” They pondered as the thirteen-year-old touched the ancient glyph. “I feel like I recall something...something important, but what?”
While they were busy mulling over in their mind, Frisk felt a slight tap on the shoulder, so they turned around and saw their best friend, Monster Kid, standing behind them with excitable grins on their faces.
“MK?” Frisk spoke, a bit surprised to see them. “How long have you been standing there behind me?”
MK grins. “About three minutes. I was waiting for you on the other side of the wooden bridge, but I got bored, so I came back by taking the ferry ride to see you.” Then Monster Kid surprised their best friend by handing Frisk an umbrella. “Here, you might wanna hang on to that when we travel deeper into the Waterfall.”
The human teen looks at them as they raise their eyebrow in confusion. “What do you mean? It can’t be raining down here.”
“Well, my good buddy, that’s where you’re wrong.” The young monster giggled as they walked next to them. “Around here, this place does rain, and you’ll be in for a real treat because I found a super secret spot that you might enjoy.”
Frisk was intrigued by MK’s suggestion; as the two of them walked toward the end of the wooden dock, they stepped on a medium size raft that drifted to the right. After they made it to the other side of the wooden pier, Frisk and MK headed their way, but something felt off as the two were walking alone...it was quiet...too quiet the human teen stopped as they examined their surroundings as they had an unnerving sensation like someone was watching within the darkness. Monster Kid didn’t seem to be all that concerned as they continued walking along the wooden bridge, so Frisk followed suit to ensure their friend didn’t get hurt.
“So, about that secret spot I told you about earlier,” Monster Kid broke the silence. “The other day before, I ran off to see Undyne up close in action. I found an old corridor that led to a room filled with large patches of grass that were great for bug-catching.”
The thirteen-year-old child stayed quiet as they listened to their friend talk until a neon blue spear came out of nowhere, nearly bypassing them and MK as it landed on the other side of the bridge.
“STOP RIGHT THERE, HUMAN!” The voice called out in the shadow.
MK panicked as they turned their heads to check their surroundings, as the young monster remembered what they were told about the humans back at home. “Human? Where?”
Then Frisk and MK looked and saw Undyne revealing herself out of the shadow as they heard the clanking sound coming from her armor. Then her voice was serious as she spoke, “Seven. Seven human souls. And with yours, we can-”
“RUN!!!” Frisk shouted as they ran off to get away from Undyne.
“HEY! GET BACK HERE!” Undyne yelled as she threw her spears at them. “Quit running and face me, you wretched little brat!”
MK was just behind their friend as they called out to their idol. “Hey, quit messing with my friend!”
The captain of the royal guard was shocked in disapproval as she was still chasing the young teen while throwing her spears one after another. “They’re a HUMAN! You can’t be friends with them!”
“Wait, really? I...I didn’t know that...” MK expressed disappointment as they were following Frisk side by side.
Poor Frisk kept dodging her attacks and was hurt by what she said to MK about they can’t be friends with a human. Dodging after dodging the human teen was getting tired as they were almost getting closer to the end of the bridge.
Undyne was getting frustrated as she shouted. “DAMN IT, HUMAN! STOP RUNNING!”
Thankfully Frisk and MK made it to the large patch of grass to hide from the crazy fish; they listened to her coming through the grass and heard her growl in irritation, “Grrr...DAMN IT! UGH, if it weren’t for that grass, I would have KILLED you by now, but I won’t. So you’re lucky...This time.”
After that, she left, and everything went quiet as they came out of their hiding spot. Frisk and MK looked at each other as they were catching their breath from all that running, and after a few moments, the young monster backed away from their friend with sad looks on their faces and asked quietly, averting their gazes from the human teen, “Is it true? Are you a human?”
The thirteen-year-old child looked down in shame and silently nodded their head.
“Oh... so...we can’t be friends, huh?” MK choked up as tears fell from their face. “I...I...I HATE your guts!!” Frisk stayed quiet as they came up to their crying friend and hugged them tightly, which caught the young monster by surprise as they nervously laughed as more tears began to fall. “Ha ha, I’m such a turd...sorry for saying that I hate your guts.”
Frisk smiled slightly. “It’s fine. I know you didn’t mean to say it. You were shocked that you made a friend that is an actual human.”
As the bipedal dino-dragon monster grinned, they finally calmed down from their outburst. The young human teen came up with an idea and explained to their best friend that they should go onwards and meet each other again at this secret spot so they could travel together again. Monster Kid was a little sad but understood where Frisk was coming from since Undyne was still looking for their human friend, so they said goodbye, and MK ran off ahead, leaving Frisk behind. As they were about to leave, the young teenager felt something odd, so instead of heading straight to the next area, Frisk went back, walking alone, crossing the same bridge Undyne chased them to the end of the pier.
What they saw seemed bizarre as a lone monster looked eerily the same as their best friend MK but different. Their appearance was gray, and they were wearing strips shirts. Whomever they were seemed to be staring off into the distance with a blank, lifeless expression; as Frisk came closer, the strange monster spoke, “Have you ever thought about a world where everything is exactly the same...Except you don’t exist?” there was a cold dead silence between them as the thirteen-year-old human tried to process what this unknown monster specifically said; then the strange monster resumed as they turned and looked at the human child. “Everything functions perfectly without you... Ha, ha... The thought terrifies me.”
“What?” They breathed out as this conversation seemed unsettling for some reason. Deep in their minds, a memory slowly resurfaced as they heard of this conversation before... but to whom exactly?
Forgotten Memories #██
Six days...six whole days after the incident with fooling around the IDF by accidentally summoning a horrific creature and possibly canceling his project for good. The older skeleton, Dr. Gaster, was standing alone on the walkway, taking his usual smoke break as he puffed up another smoke to ease his troubled mind. Well, it’s not the first time his mind has been filled with difficulty, especially when his SOUL connects to something or someone. Gaster was about to take another smoke when he heard the elevator door open and noticed his beloved friend and colleague, Dr. Alphys, nervously walking toward him.
“Dr. Alphys?”
“U-um, yeah, I thought I’d find you here,” The yellow dinosaur spoke as she anxiously examined her surrounding as she walked closer to her friend. “Uh...hi.”
“Is there something you want?” He said with a hint of relief to see her here. “Oh, by the way, congratulations on your robotics work. Everyone’s seemed to be impressed with your latest model.”
Alphys did appreciate his compliments, but that wasn’t what she came here to see him for. “U-uh, thanks, but that’s not why I...”
The royal scientist almost takes another smoke on his cigarette as he remembers how Asgore gets on to him about his smoking habits, so he flicks it away to dispose of it completely, then he speaks casually, “Er... don’t tell the king I’ve been smoking, please.”
“...Uh, I-I won’t,” She stuttered as the poor thing tried to discourage her stare as she nervously sweated. “but I mean, h-he already knows...”
“...”
“...A-anyways, your brother...your brother is...” Alphys fidged her fingers as she tried to find the words to say. “He tried to call you...s-seven times, so he uh contacted me instead and requested me to-to check up on you.”
Dr. Gaster flinched when she mentioned his twin brother, then he sighed. “Of course he did.”
“He wanted to know h-how you are doing...and...” Alphys hesitated for a moment until Gaster spoke up.
“Zeyada wanted to know about my emotional circumstances, correct?”
“Uh, well...” The nervous dinosaur looked down, getting worried as she spoke again, “I g-guess, in so many words...I mean, your brother and the king’s really worried about you, and uh, uh, they’re not- they’re not the only one you know. I-uh, I told you, uh, a while back that l-lots of people care about you, and uh... we’re just...”
“I’m causing them to worry, aren’t I?”
“We just...wanted to know you’re okay.” She said while looking up at her coworker.
Dr. Gaster was silent for a moment as he turned his head away from Alphys while staring down at the lava pool that was far...far below him, then he spoke in a halfhearted and yet casual tone.
“...Do you ever think about...non-existence?”
“W...what? What do you mean by that?”
“....What I mean is, Have you ever considered a world that stays precisely the same, except that world doesn’t know you exist?... A world lived on without you in it?”
"G̴̢̢͙̗̗͔̻̗̳̜̪̈́...Dr.G̶͈͔͔̚a̸̫̲͕̍̆͘s̴̠͎̗̽̉t̶̠̙͙̲͌̒e̵̳͚̟͋̐̕͜ȓ̷͎..."
Gaster kept talking as he stared at the bottom of the CORE, “Fate far worse than death itself? Just flat out forgotten by the people who loved you dearly? It’s a scary thought.”
The yellow dinosaur’s SOUL sank as her expression looked petrified while clutching her chest. “Dr.G̶͈͔͔̚a̸̫̲͕̍̆͘s̴̠͎̗̽̉t̶̠̙͙̲͌̒e̵̳͚̟͋̐̕͜ȓ̷͎, what are you saying?”
He sighed and looked back at his worried friend to ease her on his...bizarre conversation. “Alphys. I want to say thank you for being an amazing colleague. And...thank you for caring about me. You don’t have to do that, and I know I sometimes don’t make things easy.”
“W-well, you’re... you’re so...how could I not, uh” Dr. Alphys stammered as she flustered while she calmed herself “and thank you too for being so nice to me, even when I’m nothing compared to you-”
The skeleton looked at her, feeling guilty and remorseful. “My main worry now is how everyone will be hurt by what comes next. And for that, I am sorry.”
“Wh...What? What...what are you trying to say.”
Dr. Gaster turns away as he knows the discussion is meaningless. “I said too much. Goodbye, Alphys. Please get in touch with Zeyada and tell him that... I’m sorry for everything, and I’m forever grateful to have him as my brother...And please, don’t think about this anymore.” He said as he walked away, leaving his friend alone on the CORE’s walkway.
“....”
Forgotten memories end
When Frisk snapped back into reality, the strange monster was gone, but they couldn’t help to feel regretful and now started to question why they kept having these unfamiliar memories lately. They turned and walked away, heading back to their destination to meet with their friend Monster Kid. After the human child left, that same monster appeared again, but its eyes oozed black substances as it spoke in a raspy voice, glitching constantly.

Notes:
UUUUUUUGH, this took forever!!!! Thankfully, I finished it, and boy, this chapter is a doozy. We finally have the interaction with Goner Kid, just as I promised, and the forgotten memories. I always find that when you interact with Goner Kid, their dialogue is not only unfortunate but disturbing.
(Well, that line seems very, very cryptic)

Chapter Text
As they returned to their destination after that unsettling conversation with some unknown monster at the wooden pier, Frisk, the thirteen-year-old human, headed toward the next room called the “Crystal” room. There was nothing particular about this room as they passed by continuing right; the young teen exits the Crystal room. They see Sans standing next to the telescope, which is not unusual, so they assume that he was planning to look at the “stars” on the ceiling, although wasn’t he supposed to be at his post? As they approached the shorter skeleton, Frisk smiled and waved at him.
“Hello, Sans,” They greeted. “I didn’t expect to see you again. Do you intend to look at the stars through your telescope?”
Sans grins at them. “heya, kiddo. and no, i’m thinking about getting into the telescope business. it normally takes 50,000G to use this telescope...but since you’ve been a great friend to my brother and since i also know you, you can use it for free. howzabout it?” he winks at them.
*(Use the telescope?)
Yes ❤ No
Yes❤
There was something not quite right about his offer as if it had to be another silly prank, so Frisk looked at him as they raised their eyebrow for a moment; then the thirteen-year-old looked through the telescope, and all they saw was nothing but red. To their dismay, they turned their head at him and frowned as he busted out laughing as the poor child had a red ring-like paint around their eye. “pfffft, hahahahaha,” Sans howled with laughter, “i can’t believe you fell for the old “red paint on the telescope” trick.”
Frisk eyes widened as they once again fell for his antics, and they pouted, giving him that unamused look. After Sans calmed down, he jokingly grinned and said, “huh? that face is telling me that you aren’t satisfied. don’t worry, i’ll give you a full refund.” He hands them a white cloth to wash off the red paint around their eye, so the young human takes it and washes their face to ensure the paint comes off completely.
“Very funny, Sans.” They muttered, “How very mature of you.”
And with that, they waved goodbye to Sans as Frisk headed their way to the right and encountered a new monster named “Loren.” This odd monster asked the human about stars, like What’s a star? Can you touch it? Can you eat it? Can you kill it?... Are you a star? Which made the young teenager beam in delight and proudly explain complex scientific details about the stars to the small monster. The curious onion monster’s mind expanded with a better understanding of stars, and it’s all thanks to the human child for giving it science lessons. So in return, Loren tells Frisk that MK is inside the cave; the young teen smiles and thanks the onion monster as they head to the wooden door on the north wall of this room to another small room with the Nice Cream Guy in it, including Monster Kid. Monster Kid turns their head and grins as they notice Frisk approaching them, so they ask the Nice Cream Guy for two nice creams to share with their best friend, and the blue bunny beams with delight and gladly hands them some nice creams. “Here you go, little buddy, and thank you for your purchase.”
So MK came up to them and gave them nice cream, and both left the cave to have a peaceful time together. For several minutes, Frisk and MK sat by the pathway of bright blue water surrounding both sides, enjoying eating their frozen treats, and on the other side of the chasm was a small yellow bird. Both children giggled as they talked about their favorite things or some embarrassing stories they’d done when they were young.
“And that’s why my sister banned me from entering her room.” the bipedal monster laughed. “She got so angry at me for making her room a huge mess that she chased me around the house.”
“Pffft, I can’t imagine why,” Frisk chuckled. “You did create a mess in her room, so it’s probably justified.”
MK grins as they look at the ceiling and ask, “So, Frisk. Do you have any dreams you’ll be accomplishing when you grow up?”
“I want to be a scientist.” The thirteen-year-old child answered. “It’s always been my main ambition since I was little.” Frisk smiled as they recounted the days when they could read college-level books in their father’s work office at home. “I want to help people, and that’s what I wanna do when I get older.”
The young monster’s eyes sparkled as its tail wagged. “YO!!! That’s awesome, dude! You reminded me of my older cousin. Her name is Alphys.”
“Who’s Alphys?” Frisk asked, “Is she a scientist too?” As they got up from the ground and helped MK out, the two friends left the area to find the corridor leading to the old bug-catching room.
“Well, yeah, she is a scientist,” The young monster responded. “Alphys works at the lab in Hotland as the royal scientist, no less.”
The young human was surprised by what MK had told them as they continued until they finally found the bug-catching room, which had a large patch of grass for a good spot to play hide and seek. Frisk and Monster Kid go through as the young monster explains more details about their cousin Alphys, “So like I said, Alphy is like the smartest monster in the Underground that one day the King gave her a job as the Royal Scientist.”
“Really?” Frisk said, “Did she do anything to impress the King of Monsters?”
“Hmm? OH! Yeah, she did.” The monster beamed in excitement. “My cousin showed Mr. Dreemurr her project that she worked on, and to her surprise that it impressed him, he made her officially his Royal Scientist.”
As Monster Kid continued to describe more details about Alphys, they roamed through the patches of grass as tiny little glow bugs fluttered around the room. The place was mysterious and yet pleasing it’s no wonder people would come here to catch bugs; as the human child and MK saw one of the monsters holding her net as she tried her best to catch the glow bugs. They pressed onward until someone among the larger grass patches spoke, “Excuse me...”
The human teen and MK looked around to see who was talking.
“Are you talking to me?” Frisk asked as they pointed to themselves.
“Yes, you.” The unknown individual spoke, “Can you do something about your friend...?”
The thirteen-year-old child looked confused. “Friend? What are you talking about?”
“Yes, your friend...” The individual paused, then spoke, “The one behind you, with a creepy smile.”
The two companions looked behind them to see this supposed “friend,” but nobody was there, only large patches of grass around the area, so they looked back at the monster with baffled expressions; then Frisk spoke up, “Um, I’m sorry, but MK and I don’t see anyone. Are you sure it was just your imagination?”
There was a short pause between them and the stranger until it spoke one last time before the conversation ended “...Huh? That’s weird. Where did your friend go?”
As Frisk and MK went their separate ways, the young teen headed to the next room that spans a large area horizontally and vertically. The color palette reverses in this room, and the water appears bright blue while the land appears black. They traverse this area while encountering a few echo flowers. The thirteen-year-old child hears a passing conversation, and it seems two young individuals are talking about their wishes through the echo flowers.
So, Don’t you have any wishes to make?
... hmm, just one, but... It’s kind of stupid.
Don’t say that! Come on, I promise I won’t laugh.
...hmm...if I say my wish... You promise you won’t laugh at me?
Of course I won’t laugh!
Someday, I’d like to climb this mountain we’re all buried under. Standing under the sky, looking at the world all around... That’s my wish.
(laughter)
...hey, you said you wouldn’t laugh at it!
Sorry, it’s just funny...
That’s my wish too.
Frisk felt moved by their conversation, even though whoever made their wishes was possibly long gone by now. As they continued down the path, the young human teen found a small patch of tall grass and discovered ballet shoes.
*(It's a pair of bullet shoes.)
*(Will you take it?)
Take it ❤ Leave it
Take it❤
*(You got the ballet shoes.)
“Odd, why would someone leave their pair of ballet shoes along with their tutu?” Frisk ponders, “I better put it in my inventory just in case I need it or bring it back to their owners.” So they left, and by the time Frisk was about to cross the wooden bridge, their phone suddenly rang, so they grabbed their phone and noticed their good friend Papyrus was calling them again.
“Hello?” Frisk answered the phone call.
“HELLO! THIS IS PAPYRUS!!!” Papyrus greeted them over the phone. “HUMAN, DO YOU REMEMBER WHEN I ASKED YOU ABOUT CLOTHES?”
They did indeed remember. “Yes, I do. Why? Is there something wrong, Papyrus?”
“WELL, THE FRIEND WHO WANTED TO KNOW...” He paused, then said, “HER OPINION OF YOU IS VERY...MURDERY.”
“Great, now the killer fish is judging how I wear.” The thirteen-year-old child muttered under their breath, hoping Papyrus didn’t catch what they’d said.
Papyrus could tell something was bothering them as he could barely make out what they said over the phone, so he reassured them. “WELL, WORRY NOT, DEAR HUMAN! PAPYRUS WOULD NEVER BETRAY YOU! I AM NOT A CRUEL PERSON. I STRIVE TO BE COMFORTING AND PLEASANT. PAPYRUS! HE SMELLS LIKE THE MOON. SO, BECAUSE OF MY INHERENT GOODNESS... I TOLD HER YOU WERE NOT WEARING A DUSTY TUTU!” He continued, “EVEN THOUGH YOU TOLD ME YOU WERE! INSTEAD, I MADE SOMETHING UP!”
“You did?” Frisk questioned as they were curious about what Papyrus told Undyne. “What did you tell her?”
He sounded hesitant over the phone as the tall skeleton answered, “I TOLD HER YOU WEAR WEARING...A FADED RIBBON. EVEN THOUGH IT PAINED ME TO TELL SUCH A BOLD-FACED LIE. AND I KNOW YOU WOULD NEVER EVER WEAR A FADED RIBBON.” Then his tone changed as he reassured them, even if he was a little saddened that he lied to Undyne. “BUT YOUR SAFETY IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN FASHION. DANG! I JUST WANT TO BE FRIENDS WITH EVERYONE...”
“Aww, Papyrus, don’t say that,” The young teen spoke as they comforted him. “I’m grateful that you are doing your best to keep me safe, and for that, I thank you.”
They heard Papyrus’s laughter, and he told them goodbye and to stay safe and that he’ll call again if anything else changed. So Frisk kept walking along the path and crossed the bridge as they came across an ancient glyph again that told them more about the SOULS:
“The power to take their SOULS.”
“This is the power that the humans feared.”
“Weird...I have a fuzzy feeling that I’ve read this somewhere on my dad’s bookshelf.” They murmured.
Continuing, Frisk enters a long, horizontal room with a narrow black path leading to the right. As they progress down this path, Frisk notices tentacles appear in different spots until they turn their head and notice a huge octopus appeared; this octopus monster’s eyes sparkle as he is glad to see them or wants to talk.
“Hey...there...noticed you were...here” The creature spoke slowly while it smiled at them. “I’m Onionsan! Onionsan, y’hear!”
The human child looked timid as if they had never seen such a ginormous sea monster before, only through books and old ocean documentaries on television, so they shyly waved at it. “Hello.”
“You’re visiting Waterfall, huh! It’s great here, huh? You love it, huh? Onionsans asked in excitement, and Frisk nodded. The only thing their more concerned about was that the crazy fish warrior was still hanging about, but other than that, the area was beautiful and serene. “Yeah! Me too! It’s my Big favorite!” The creature had a big grin while still staring at them, and Frisk pressed forwards while Onionsans continued talking, “Even though the water’s getting so shallow here. I have to sit down all the time, but he-hey! That’s OK! It beats moving to the city! And living in a crowded aquarium!...Like all my friends did.” The thirteen-year-old felt sorry for him as they were still listening to his story as he averted his gaze from them. “And the aquarium’s full a-anyway, so, even if I wanted to, I...” He wavered, then said, “That’s okay though, y’hear? Undyne’s going to fix everything, y’hear? I’m going to get out of here and live in the ocean! Y’hear?” Soon they came to the end of the room. “Anyways, I’ll see you around! Have a good time!” Onionsan dive back down into the water. “In Waterfallllll.....”
Frisk smiled a little as they left to the next room. Despite they are still worried about Undyne, the human teen encounters Shyren, but she seems shy; the poor dear looks away from them as she hides in the corner. From the looks of her, the mermaid was humming quietly, like she needed someone to sing along with her. “Deep..down, w-whispers..” She softly sings.
“We can hear them all,” Frisk joined in. “Your inner voice.” Shyren and her agent were astonished that a human child was singing along with her, so she shyly approached them and smiled a bit.
“Y-you know this song?” Shyren shyly asked them, “You have a nice singing voice.
Frisk blushed in embarrassment as their eyes glowed pink while they meekly smiled and nervously laughed. “Oh, ha, ha, y-yeah, I know it. I don’t know why I know it, but I do.”
“My dear young child, as Shyrens agent, I must say that you might have given me an idea to cheer her up.” The lower part of her “body” spoke, “Can you sing with her? or at least hum a simple tune so that she feels more relaxed if you want to.”
They stammered. “M-me? Oh gosh, I don’t know. I...I could try.” Frisk took a deep breath to calm themselves then both Shyren and the thirteen-year-old human sang together.
Deep down, Whispers
We can hear them all
Your inner voice
What will it tell us?
The deepest abyss of your soul
It can’t hide
Conflict, turmoil
Unfaltering kindness
Apprehension
Determination
All those feelings mixed up
An array of thoughts
Will you fight or show
True mercy
You have to make that choice
Will you save our friends
Escape then
Show them the world above
Will you set him free
Mercilessly
Write your wish in the dust
Two sides are playing
A tough game
An endless tug of war
Which will win?
Savior or murderer?
After they were done, Frisk noticed a crowd of monsters from every area of Waterfall cheering at them like it was some concert that pleased her agent. “Bravo, you two and child, thank you so much!” Shyren’s agent said, “Shyren, my dear, you were amazing out there.” The fish monster smiled as she looked at the human and softly said thank you to them, so they waved goodbye to everyone and left as the audience cheered for more performances. Heading to the right from the room, Frisk finds even more glyphs that inform them of Boss Monsters.
This power has no counter.
Indeed, a human cannot take a monster’s SOUL.
When a monster dies, its SOUL disappears.
And an incredible power would be needed to take the SOUL of a living monster.
There is only one exception.
The SOUL of a special species of monster called a “Boss Monster.”
A Boss Monster’s SOUL is strong enough to persist after death...
If only for a few moments.
A human could absorb this SOUL.
But this has never happened.
And now it never will.
“A human that could absorb a Boss Monster SOUL.”... mph, I’m getting a Deja Vu from reading that.” They felt a slight headache. “I’m reading too much into this information.” So the young teen continuing to the right, they see an ancient statue with water dripping on it from the ceiling and, to their astonishment, maybe MK was right about it raining here in Waterfall. Good thing that their best friend lent them an umbrella, so they gently placed it on the statue, and what they heard next was that inside the statue was a music box beginning to play. Frisk stood there in a quiet moment as they remembered when they were little; their mother and father would turn on the music box that played the same tune to drive away any bad dreams or help them sleep.
“Mommy?” The young three-year-old child called out to their mother.
“Yes? Frisk?” she responded to them.
“When’s daddy coming home from his trip?”
Susie smiled as she stroked her hands on Frisk’s cheek. “Soon, my little dreamer. Now it’s sleepy time.” She kissed her child on the cheek. “Mommy and Daddy love you very much.” Before the woman left, she opened Frisk’s music box so the music would play for her child to sleep. Susie smiled as she looked back at Frisk as the young child clung to their stuffed plushie resembling a goat monster and softly whispered. “Sweet dreams, my little bundle of joy.”
“M-mom...d-dad..” Frisk sniffles, “I...I miss you guys so much.” They rub their eyes to wipe away the tears from their face.
The thirteen-year-old paused for a second, then left the room towards the right and found a bucket full of umbrellas and a white waterfall in the foreground; thankfully, the sign told them to take an umbrella, so they did. Frisk looked back as if they had sworn they caught a glimpse of someone observing them, but nobody was there, so they pressed onwards. Progressing right, Frisk walks through a waterlogged room filled with waterfalls and reflective pools until they see Monster Kid standing alone on the corner waiting for them.
“Yo, Frisk, you got an umbrella?” The bipedal monster asked.
Frisk smiled as they were glad to see MK again and nodded. “Mmhm, I do.”
“Awesome!” Monster Kid grinned and approached their best friend by standing beside them. “Let’s go!”
Along the way, they have a nice peaceful stroll as MK starts chatting. “Man, Undyne is sooooooo cool. She beats up bad guys and NEVER loses. Even though she tried to kill you.” Frisk shuttered about that, knowing it was true that Undyne was trying to hunt them down. “B-But I’m sure if there’s another human around here, Undyne will go after them, right?” The thirteen-year-old hummed, not even wanting to comment on their opinion of the crazy fish; they rather talk about something else instead. Further, the two walked Monster Kid continues the conversation. “So, have I ever told you about Mr. Dreemurr coming to my school?”
“No, I don’t think you have told me,” Frisk spoke. “I am quite curious, though.”
MK beamed as they followed their human friend. “Okay, so we had a school project where we had to take care of a flower.” the bipedal monster explains.” The King- we had to call him “Mr. Dreemurr”- volunteered to donate his own flowers. He came to school and taught the class about responsibility and stuff.” Frisk listens as they recount many class projects back at school, and hearing their friend’s story reminds them of home. “Anyways, that got me thinking...” MK continues, “YO! How COOL would it be if UNDYNE came to school!? She could beat up ALL the teachers!!”
“...”
“Ummm, maybe she wouldn’t beat up the teachers. She wouldn’t hurt an innocent person.” MK stated.
“....Yeah...sure...” Frisk spoke softly. “If you say so....”
Monster Kid noticed that Frisk wasn’t comfortable talking about Undyne, so they felt sorry for them, given that their best friend was the enemy of their role model. “Hey, I’m sorry that Undyne wanted to hurt you...if you want, I can be your protector.” This made the human child a bit better, and they meekly smiled. After the duo reaches the end of the room, they enter a two-dimensional room with New Home off in the distance.
“Is that-”
“Yeah! That’s the capital, NEW HOME.” MK answered, “That’s where Mr. Dreemurr lives.”
The view was astounding, as this felt like a dream to see a real-life castle from a distance while the luminous stones from the ceilings made it more stunning, and they left the room. Frisk and MK came across a ledge that was too high for them to reach; they both looked at each other, figuring out what to do until MK spoke up, “Hey, Frisk, I have an idea. Climb my shoulders if you want to confront Undyne that you’re not a threat.” Frisk is reluctant to see the captain, but they have no choice, so they climb on the young monster’s shoulder to grab onto the ledge to lift themselves. The thirteen-year-old looked down at them as if they didn’t want to leave their best friend behind, so Frisk was about to undo their scarf to use it as a rope until MK hollered out to them.
“Yo, you go on ahead. Don’t worry about me.” MK smiled to reassure them, “I always find a way to get through!” So the young monster turned and wandered off again, leaving Frisk alone.
Frisk noticed the next SAVE Point was in the room; they immediately went toward it and touched the sparkling star, and the voice was heard.
*(The serene sounds of a distance music box…)
*(It fills you with determination)
FILED SAVED
Soon after, they noticed more ancient glyphs on the walls that detail The War of Humans and Monsters, so Frisk read each one to give them more information:
The humans, afraid of our power declared war on us.
They attacked suddenly, and without mercy
In the end, it could hardly be called a war.
United, the humans were too powerful, and us monsters, too weak.
Not a single SOUL was taken, and countless monsters were turned to dust…
“ That’s not what I’ve been told during my history class…did the humans from the days of old exaggerate the whole story? ” Frisk thought aloud, “ If so, then I feel like these ancient glyphs tell more to the story than the old history books depicted. ” They continued to the next room, walking carefully on the wooden bridge as they felt the same dread back when Undyne first saw them. The poor thirteen-year-old gulped as they tightened their grip on the satchel, hoping...that Undyne doesn't find them, but it was too late Undyne, Captain of the Royal Gaurd, spotted them.
“SUPRISE! You thought you could get away from me THIS time!” She yelled as the blue spears swarmed around the human. “Sorry to disappoint you, but you got nowhere to run this-” Frisk instantly ran for their life depended on it.
“ARE YOU FUCKING SERIOUS?!” Undyne screamed in frustration.
They ran in each direction as the crazy fish was hot on their tail below them as she constantly summoned her attacks one after another. “ No…NOOOOOOO!! ” Frisk mentally screamed in their minds, “ I don't wanna die. Please leave me ALONE! ” Their eyes glowed purple/yellow as they panicked, and those flashbacks of being chased by the humans of old were not making things any better for them. Soon they reached the dead end, and far below them was nothing but a pile of garbage leftovers from the humans on the surface. Frisk was hyperventilating from fear, and tears were falling from their face; how things can get any worse? Then they heard a clanking sound. The human teen was too petrified to move, so they turned around and saw her…ten feet away.
“Finally, I finally caught up to you,” The captain expressed coldly. “I have just ENOUGH of your running-and-hiding BULLSHIT! I didn’t realize that I was hunting for GARBAGE!”
“Please…please don’t,” The young teen sobbed uncontrollably. “PLEASE DON’T KILL ME!!!”
But she didn’t hear nor care for their plea; the only thing was in her mind that all humans must pay for what they’ve done, so Undyne threw the spear only to miss her target and break the bridge between her and them. Frisk eyes widen as they fall far below as the flashback plays over and over and over…until nothing; they fall unconscious once they hit the ground again. Voices only voices were heard.
“It sounds like it came from over here…”
“Oh! You’ve fallen down, haven’t you?”
“Are you okay?”
“Here, get up….”
“…”
“ Chara , huh?”
“That’s a nice name.”
“My name is….”

Chapter Text
Frisk gasped as they regained consciousness after being awoken from an obscure flashback while laying on the bed of Golden flowers. They sat up and checked their surroundings, and the new area they were now in was a literal Garbage Dump. Slowly picking themselves up from the ground, their head was still throbbing, and their body was tired from all that running after that crazy fish chased them to the end of the bridge; Frisk stayed determined. The thirteen-year-old child grabbed their satchel and double-checked to see if anything had fallen out of their bag, and thankfully, all their belongings were still safe and sound. Most of the area is flooded, so they walk with their legs below the water as the young teenager carries on to the next room, where the Waterfall flows into this room and spans across the entire northern wall, and there are two piles of garbage along the southern wall.
As Frisk departs, they enter a “Trash Zone” room, a smaller space with a waterfall that flows into the room and another to the abyss below. The area seems obscure as they walk a bit close to the edge but not too close for them to fall; one can only imagine what the abyss can lead them to as they gaze into the abyss...the abyss gazes back. The thirteen-year-old child turned away and left the room to go to the next area, which had more garbage piles which didn’t surprise them much, so they looked around for anything valuable.
“Wow, it’s hard to believe there is so much garbage here.” They thought aloud, “At least I could look around to find something good to use.”
Frisk skimmed at an old desktop computer, and by the looks of it, someone must’ve had a bad day to throw it away like trash; then they came across a cooler, and inside it were two packs of astronauts’ food. They grabbed the item without a second thought, and it was automatically sent to the inventory. Frisk even found a popular DVD case while looking through the garbage area.
*(It's a DVD case for an anime.)
* (Desperate claw marks cover the edges.)
“I recognized this DVD.” Frisk spoke softly, “It’s Mew Mew Kissy Cutie. One of my classmates has been talking about it for months.”
They decided to leave it and went straight to the next room, the “Quiet Area.” Frisk looked around the rectangular room and noticed a pond in the center; as they came closer, the young human felt a calming tranquility, like they could take a breather without worrying about Undyne. They sat down on their knees to look at their reflection, but something caught their eyes as the reflection revealed a ghostly apparition standing behind them. Frisk was stunned by what they had seen, so they turned their head, and to their surprise, there was no one behind them; then they looked back at the water, and the supposed ghost vanished.
“What...what on earth did I just witness?” Frisk murmurs under their breath, “Did I just see a ghost? Well, then again, the only ghost I’ve seen was Napstablook...but.”
The thirteen-year-old was bothered by this uncertainty but decided not to press on the matter as they got up and headed north as the path split into three parts known as the Blook Acres.
“Hmm, if I remember correctly, Napstablook told me they lived in Waterfall and invited me over to pay them a visit.” Frisk thought to themselves. “So that could only mean the middle path could direct me to their house.”
So they went to the middle path, and sure enough, Frisk discovered two houses that stood next to each other. One house was whitish blue, and the other was pink; the human teen could only assume that the whitish blue house could be Napstablook’s home, so they came up to it and nicely knocked on the door to let the owner of the house, who was at their doorstep. The young human waited for a response till the door slowly opened, and a shy ghost peeked through with a humble smile.
“oh...you really came...” the ghost softly spoke, “sorry, i... wasn’t expecting that.”
Frisk smiled back. “It’s okay, Napstablook. I wanted to stop by here anyway to see how you were doing. Is it all right for me to come in?”
Napstablook nodded as they opened the door to let their human guest enter their house. “yeah... it’s not much, but make yourself at home.”
The thirteen-year-old enters the house to examine their ghost friend’s interesting home decor as the place itself has a fridge, a television, a spiderweb with a flyer for a spider bake sale, a computer open to a music-sharing forum, and three CDs labeled “Ghouliday,” “Spookwave,” and “Spooktune.” Frisk was impressed to know that Blooky had unique taste in music, even though it’s in different ghoulish tunes.
“human...do you wanna...listen to some tunes... or something...” They awkwardly asked the human child.
The young teen silently nodded, so Napstablook lent them a pair of headphones so they could listen to the music. They played Spooktune, and the teen seemed to like it very much and hummed along with the tune. After they were done listening to music, the kind ghost offered them something to eat, so Frisk kindly took the offer as the shy ghost gave them a ghost sandwich, but sadly it phased through the human’s hand; the poor dear felt awkward, so Blooky suggested something else which seemed very interesting.
“you know, after a great meal, i like to lie on the ground and feel like garbage...” The ghost explains, “it’s a family tradition... Do you want...to join me...”
They smiled and responded, “Yeah, I wouldn’t mind joining you.”
Napstablook smiled shyly. “okay... follow my lead...”
So they followed their ghost friend’s lead and lay on the ground, and Blooky demonstrated. “here we go... you’ll lie down as long as you don’t move. so...only move around when you want to get up, i guess.”
Moments passed as the two friends lay on the ground; the whole room changed to the beautiful scenery of the outer world of space filled with stars and the Milky Way. Frisk instantly closed their eyes as they enjoyed this breathtaking experience; every moment was peaceful, and their fear disappeared. Then the thirteen-year-old got up as they appreciated spending time with Napstablook since they invited them; Blooky shyly smiled at Frisk as they seemed a bit happier now.
“well, that was nice...” The ghost spoke while thanking the human, “thank you.. so uhhhh... i’m gonna keep working on that mix cd.”
Frisk smiles at them, so they tell each other goodbye and exit the Blooky Acres for their journey again. Heading to the east lies a crossroad; the young teen noticed a cave which they could only guess might be a shop, so they went inside anyway to look around. Frisk came across what looked to be an elderly-looking olive-green tortoise monster, and the way of his clothing, he seemed to be in archaeologist attire, with a pointed beard, a large magnifying glass, and a tan pith helmet. This goofy old monster turns his head as if delighted to see a new face around Waterfall arrive at the shop.
“Whoa there!” The tortoise said joyfully, “I’ve got some neat junk for sale.”
The young teenager was astounded to hear a turtle-like monster speak to them. “Oh! Uh, hello there, mister. I’m just browsing, but thanks for the offer.”
“Well, don’t be shy now. If you ever need anything, don’t hesitate to ask me.” He spoke while cleaning his magnifying glass.
Frisk continued browsing through the old turtle’s small shop as they took a glimpse of a symbol on the wall which looked exactly the one they’d seen on a deltarune robe back when they stayed with Toriel and with the skeleton brothers. As they stared at the emblem, the young human started to wonder about the history behind this odd symbol, so Frisk walked to the old shopkeeper and asked, “Excuse me, Can you tell me about that insignia and a little bit about yourself?”
“Well, the name is Gerson.” He responded. “I’ve been around a mighty long time...maybe too long. Studying history is easy when you’ve lived through so much of it yourself! Wa ha ha.” Then he looked at the emblem and spoke again. “And that’s the Delta Rune, the emblem of our Kingdom. The Kingdom...of Monsters. Wahaha! Great name, huh? It’s as I always say... Ol’ King Fluffybuns can’t name for beans!”
The thirteen-year-old child was fascinated with unexplored facts about Asgore; given what Gerson had told them and the books they read, it could appear that King Asgore was the one who named the Capital NEW HOME and their former home in the Ruins named HOME, so that indicates he was that lousy at the naming something. Frisk wanted to know more about why the Delta Rune was so important and learn the origin behind it as well.
“So what’s the meaning behind it? Is there a predated record about this Delta Rune?” Frisk curiously asked.
“Now that you’ve asked, that emblem actually predates written history.” He explains to them. “Although the original meaning has been lost to time... As far as we know, the triangles symbolize us monsters below, and the winged circle above symbolizes...” He paused for a second, then said, “Somethin’ else.”
The young teen raised more questions as to what the old turtle monster had described. “Something else? What do you mean by that?”
Gerson looked at them and replied. “Most people say it’s the ‘angel,’ from the prophecy...”
“Prophecy?”
Then the old monster’s face lit up. “Oh yeah... The prophecy. According to legend, it has been said that an ‘angel’ who has seen the surface will descend from above and bring us freedom.” He then clarifies further. “Well, lately, the people have been taking a bleaker outlook... Callin’ that circle the ‘Angel of Death.’ A harbinger of destruction, waitin’ to ‘free’ us from this mortal realm...”
The young teen gulped at that thought as Gerson took notice of the human’s reaction. The old tortoise tried to lighten the mood. “But in my opinion, when I see that little circle...I jus’ think it looks neat! Wahaha!”
Frisk was impressed to learn so much from the goofy old monster and the history behind the emblem. “Thank you for your valuable history lessons about Delta Rune,” Frisk said as they thanked the old monster. “I learned a lot, but I must be heading off now.”
“Oh, well, I do appreciate the company. I don’t get many visitors often.” Gerson grinned. “And be careful if you’re going to face Undyne.”
The young teen gulped nervously. “You knew Undyne?”
“Yeah, I knew Undyne when she was just a guppy. She’s now a local hero around here. She fought her way to the top of the Royal Guard through grit and determination alone. Actually, she just came through here asking about someone who looked like you...”
“....” Frisk stayed quiet, and they averted their gaze from the old turtle.
“I’d watch your back, kid. And buy some items...It might save your hide! Wa ha ha!” The old monster hollered with laughter.
“Ha..ha... t-thanks for the tip.” The thirteen-year-old awkwardly laughed as they went ahead, purchased some items, and left the shop. After they departed, Frisk continued heading east when they came across more ancient glyphs on the walls, so the young child began reading as it told them what happened after the war was over between man and monsters and more details about SOULs.
Hurt, beaten, and fearful for our lives, we surrendered to the humans.
Seven of their greatest magicians sealed us underground with a magic spell.
Anything can enter through the seal, but only beings with a powerful SOUL can leave.
There is only one way to reverse this spell.
If a huge power, equivalent to seven human SOULs, attacks the barrier...
It will be destroyed.
But this cursed place has no entrances or exits.
There is no way a human could come here.
We will remain trapped down here forever.
As the young teen stared at the glyphs, Frisk looked down as they felt sorry as they spoke softly: “Those poor monsters...I can’t even fathom that we must be so cruel during the olden times...if only we could’ve compromised and made peace instead of raging war against them.”
So they pressed on as they entered a maze of paths lit up when they touched the glowing mushrooms. The room was pretty, to say the least, as the human teenager had never seen large glowing mushrooms before. As far as they could tell, they were in a world filled with magic so that anything could be possible. After a while, as they were solving the puzzles, Frisk came across another odd monster though they couldn’t tell if this monster was a cat or a dog or possibly a mixture of both. By its appearance, this monster seems unique as she approaches the human while vibrating intensively.
“hOI!!! i’m tEMMIE!!” The cat/dog monster spoke in erratic grammar. “fhsdhjfdsfjsddshjfsd.”
Frisk smiled as they petted her. “Hello. Aren’t you the cutest little uh....cat? Dog? Or Cat/Dog monster.”
Temmie seemed happy to be petted by a human as she wanted to pet a human. “awwAwa cute!! (pets u)”
Frisk giggled at this odd little thing as they were curious about where she came from. But before they could even ask Temmie, the cat/dog monster fled into the luminous passage, so Frisk decided to follow the southern path hidden from view leading to Temmie Village. The young human was shocked to see many Temmies around the village as they took a quick glimpse of the sign that said:
*hOI!!!
*welcome to...
*TEM VILLAGE!!!
“So this is Tem Village?” Frisk ponders as they finish reading the sign. “I feel like I’ve been to this place before...how curious.” So they decided to check the place out before they departed once more, and they felt something as more Temmies swarmed around the human, trying to introduce themselves.
“hOI!! im temmie,” One cat/dog monster introduced. “and dis is my friend...temmie!!!”
All of them are Temmie, but one introduces herself with a different name than the rest of her peers. “Hi. I’m Bob.”
“How cute.” The thirteen-year-old giggled in amusement.
After a while, Frisk waved goodbye to all the Temmie and headed back north to continue on their way. It was only a short time till they entered another puzzle room, but this time it involved the darkening lanterns that must be turned back on to light the way forward temporarily. They managed to solve their way through the maze into the horizontal room, but their surroundings were dark and quiet as Frisk pressed forward through the watery path into the dry land; they even found a lone echo flower, and as the child interacted with it, what they heard sounded terrified.
I can’t run any longer... Somebody, anybody...
Frisk’s eyes widened as they were in shock; the voice they’d heard through the echo flower was calling for help like someone was chasing them...but nobody came, so the young teen could only speculate that whoever was pleading perhaps died somewhere in Waterfall. They nervously gulped as one couldn’t imagine what that person had to go through, but knowing that Undyne could still be around the area looking for them and wanting them dead, for they are the last SOUL that the Kingdom needs to be free so, Frisk immediately left heading to the next room filled with more echo flowers. The area was pretty as the yellowish glow bugs flew around the echo flowers while Frisk walked along the path; they noticed an old glyph that was on the wall; a closer inspection as they read:
However...
There is a prophecy.
The Angel...
The One Who Has Seen The Surface...
They will return.
And the underground will go empty.
The thirteen-year-old child placed their hands on the glyph and recalled what the old turtle had told them about the prophecy and the 'angel.' Just something about it makes their pulse race; sure, it is an old prophecy that's been told many times over by everyone, but why does it feel like that maybe they're the supposed 'angel?' They did descend from the surface, as the glyph had clearly stated, so it makes sense that they've returned to set everyone free, or was it talking about someone else that could have seen the surface? Whatever the true meaning behind it will be revealed, the young child left as they headed to the next room with a bridge spanning an expansive chasm. As they walked along the bridge until the young human heard a familiar voice shouting out to them:
“YO! FRISK!!!”
Frisk turned around and saw Monster Kid walking toward them, which relieved the thirteen-year-old child as they were more glad to see their best friend than the crazy fish warrior. MK managed to catch up to Frisk, and the two friends reunited again, even though they were standing in the middle of the bridge as there was a big drop on both sides of the chasm.
“MK,” Frisk smiled. "It's been a while since I last saw you."
Monster Kid beamed. “Yeah! The last time we saw each other was when we had to go our separate ways to meet Undyne, haha.” Frisk couldn't help but giggle at their friend's enthusiasm despite the danger they were still in and possibly that Undyne was waiting for them.
“So, What happened after I left? Did you try to confront Undyne yet?” The young monster curiously asked.
“Well, I...no, I haven't confronted her yet,” Frisk admitted. “It's not easy when she chases you to the end of the bridge and causes you to fall into the Garbage Dump.”
“Oh.”
The thirteen-year-old child averted their gaze and sighed. "I know it's something you don't want to hear, MK. But I'll try to convince her I'm not an enemy, even if she still sees me that way." Then Frisk had an idea. “You know, I bet if you meet Papyrus, I'm sure you'll think of him as cool too.”
MK's eyes sparkled. “YO! Is he that cool? Like, does he beat up bad guys?”
“Pffft, No, He's super nice, and he practically helps anyone that needs a helping hand.” Frisk thoughtfully chuckled. “He sees good in everyone, and nothing in this world could break him...even if they try.”
The young monster was awed by what their human friend had told them about Papyrus as their tail wagged in excitement. Then MK realized they'd been far from home and their parents might have phoned their sister to find them. “Oh jeez, I got overly excited about Undyne, and now Papyrus that I probably get home before-”
“If I hadn't arrived on time, I wouldn't believe it.” The voice hollered out from the distance as MK and Frisk noticed another monster standing between the entranceway and the bridge. She was tall as she folded her arms and looked almost similar to MK, but her clothes were in school uniform, and she was not pleased by the looks of her expression.
“Oh, ha...ha um, Hi Claire,” MK sheepishly spoke. “I didn't expect to see you so soon.”
Claire walked up to them and spoke firmly. “Don't “Hi” me, young monster. If I didn't find you all away here, I would have to return to Hotlands to find you” She looked at the young human pessimistically. “And what are you doing hanging around with my younger sibling?”
“M-me? Oh well, I-I,” Frisk nervously stammered. “Your sibling, MK, is my best friend, and they wanted to see Undyne, so we met and traveled together. ha...ha.”
Her eyes narrowed at the human child briefly, then softened a bit as she sighed. “I see. Then I supposed I should introduce myself, but since they already said my name to you, what is your name, kid?”
“Frisk.” They told her, “It's a pleasure to meet you.”
MK's sister smiled as she seemed grateful. “Well, Frisk, I want to say thanks for being MK's friend. You have no idea how much that means to me, and I hope you two remain friends.” Then Claire looked at the young monster and said, “And as for you, bucko, while I am disappointed that you left home without telling our parents, I am glad you have someone to take part in your little adventure.”
MK grins as they wag their tail. “So does that mean I can still meet Undyne?”
“No,” Claire shook her head in disapproval. “Your little adventure ends here, kiddo. Besides, you have some explaining to do with our parents when we get home.”
“Aww, okay.” MK sighed in defeat as they looked at their human friend with a smile. “I must go now, but thanks for everything, Frisk.”
Frisk hugged their friend one last time as they watched MK and Claire depart from them while crossing the bridge heading toward the exit, and vanishing through the cavern. The young human stood there briefly as they tried to think of a good way to convince the so-called "hero." that they were not the enemy but instead, a friend that could help to free the monster kind. So they eventually left by crossing to the other side of the chasm to the next room, known as the “Undyne Arena.” The area was huge; as Frisk glimpsed at the ceiling that had different colors, they felt extreme heat from the massive cavern before them. They even noticed a huge machine behind the cliff as if it was part of something important to keep the Underground running, as there was a puff of steam coming from it. They were getting close to the end of the Waterfall taverns as the young human child could speculate that their next destination involved a searing location known as Hotlands.
“This is it.” They mentally said to themselves. “If I keep heading straight inside that cavern, I might make it to Hotlands.”
The thirteen-year-old felt relief, but something was amiss, like their surroundings were dead quiet, as if someone was watching them, waiting for the young defenseless child to make their move. As Frisk presses along the path getting closer to the exit until they hear a voice coming from the cave in a serious tone, “I knew you'd come here, human. Now you stand facing me in the eye of the storm.”
Frisk's eyes widened as their bodies were paralyzed in fear, and they knew whose voice it was as if it sounded fierce from inside the cave. Then they gasped as the thirteen-year-old child saw Undyne walking towards them as she exited the cavern. The fish warrior could tell they were afraid as Undyne stood before the human child and blocked the only exit to ensure her target would not escape this time.
While she stared at them, Undyne spoke to them once more, “Seven. Seven human souls...our King, King ASGORE, will become a god.” The captain of the Royal guard made her stance as she summoned her spear. “Six. That's how many we have collected thus far. Understand? Through your seventh and final soul, this world will be transformed.”
The thirteen-year-old child looked at her as their blood ran cold. They have to try at least to talk her out into capturing them. “It's now or never,” They mentally told themselves; the young teenager took a deep breath to calm their nerves, hoping things would turn out better.
“Undyne, I understand that you want to free everyone,” Frisk finally said as they tried to put on a brave face, knowing they were still terrified of her. “I’m just an innocent kid who wants to return home, and I don't want to fight, so can we just talk this out peacefully?”
Undyne's eyes harden, as she always believes that the monster deserves freedom while humanity deserves to be punished for the crimes they committed long ago. The one thing on her mind was that she should be the one to get the last SOUL, and killing them would give her and everyone else HOPE, mainly if it meant preventing Asgore from killing another human.
“A peace talk, huh? FUHUHUHUHU!!! Oh goody, I would “LOVE” to hear what you and your kind have to say after what you humans had done to us many centuries ago.” She mockingly said, then her attitude got serious, “NOT!! WHY SHOULD I LISTEN TO YOUR LAME-ASS STORY WHEN YOU'RE ABOUT TO DIE!?! NGAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!”
The captain tossed her helmet aside, revealing herself as a piscine, anthropomorphic monster with blue scales and a long red ponytail while having an eyepatch covering her left eye. Undyne menacing grin as it shows her pair of sharp, yellow, protruding teeth to intimidate the human child, “For years, we've been dreaming of this day to come. BUT YOU? You're just a coward being all goody-two-shoes-shtick! Thinking you can be friends with everyone you encounter to prove to us that you can make a difference.”
“I may be a “coward,” but at least I have a good reason that violence doesn’t solve ANYTHING!” Frisk responded as they fought back their tears. “What you and Asgore are doing isn’t right! There has to be another way, so please let me go. I don’t want to fight you.”
Again she didn’t listen to their plea as Undyne summoned her spears and tossed one of them to Frisk, and they caught her weapon, unaware of what to do next. “It would be cruel of me not to give you a weapon to defend yourself, so now get ready because I WILL NOT GO EASY ON YOU!”
The young human child begins to panic as the determined fish spams her attack at them head-on while they deflect her spears quickly. Undyne grinned as she was impressed at the human child; she could feel the freedom within her grasp and hear the people calling her a hero and saying that her name would be written on the history page. Dodging after dodging, Frisk held strong until there was a perfect opening for them to escape. As soon the captain missed her aim, Frisk immediately dodged her; they ran past her into the cavern and heard her yelling in the background, “COME BACK HERE, YOU LITTLE PUNK!!”
The thirteen-year-old child ran as fast as their body could handle while Undyne was hot on their trail throwing spears at them. Frisk could see the end of the cavern until they felt an awful pain coming from their left arm as one of Undyne's spears managed to land a hit leaving a laceration, causing them to bleed as the young child fell to the ground hyperventilating and quivering. The poor child clenched their left arm as their eyes blurred and tears fell from their face wishing someone could save them.
Undyne approached the human child as she pointed her weapon at them, saying, “You've escaped from me for the LAST time! Honestly, killing you now is an act of mercy...! That said, DO you have anything else to say before I take your life?”
“God, why does she want me DEAD?! I want to LIVE.” They screamed in the back of their minds. Their eyes glowed with a mixture of purple, yellow, and red, trying their might to say at least something to prevent her from hurting them.
“☜︎♋︎⧫︎📬︎📬︎📬︎⬧︎♒︎♓︎⧫︎📬︎📬︎📬︎” Frisk muttered under their breath without even realized on what they had just said.
“What did you just say to me?” Undyne asked as she gritted her teeth. Her voice sounded dangerously calm. “Care to REPEAT that, you human scum.”
“I said…” Frisk trembled as they got up from the ground. “EAT SHIT! YOU DEMENTED TUNA BREATH!!” They ran off again towards the exit, which enraged the captain of the royal guard even more.
“WHY, YOU INSOLENT BRAT!!!” She shouted as she ran after them. “YOU’RE GOING TO REGRET SAYING THAT NASTY REMARK!”
Frisk ran as they finally reached the searing heat called “Hotlands.” Even though they saw Sans at his post sleeping, the poor child didn't have the time to stop to say hello. Thankfully, it stopped Undyne from chasing them, as she was probably chewing the lazy skeleton out for sleeping on the job. As they made it to the small room with a water cooler, Frisk paused as they were sweating and exhausted from all that running to get away from Undyne. Then they looked back and saw her walking slowly across the wooden bridge; the human child could tell she couldn't take the heat due to wearing metal armor.
“So...hot...can't stay on my feet.” Undyne huffed as she collapsed on the ground due to dehydration.
Frisk looked at her in pity as they didn't want to leave her like that despite what she had done to them, so they went to the water cooler, got a cup of water, and poured water on her to keep the captain cooled off. They backed away as they watched Undyne stand up, look around, and slowly return to Waterfall; no words were exchanged.
“I hope she makes it back safely.” Frisk thought to themselves as they walked away to the next area. The thirteen-year-old child came across the “Laboratory Entrance,” a four-way crossroads; as they walked along, Frisk noticed the two royal guards blocking the northern path they could assume could be the entrances to the Capital, but what caught their attention was a huge building as the big red bold letters that read: LAB.
There's something familiar about this building as the sight of it makes them feel nostalgia till they see the SAVE point in the middle of the path, so the human child touches the golden star, which heals their wounds automatically, but not their sense of dread still looming over them.
(Seeing such a strange laboratory in a place like this...You're filled with determination.)
FILE SAVED
Frisk felt a vibration in the coat's pocket, so they grabbed their cell phone. Papyrus is calling them.
“Hello?” They answered.
“AH, HELLO THERE, HUMAN!” Papyrus cheerily spoke over the phone. “I WAS JUST THINKING YOU, ME, AND UNDYNE SHOULD ALL HANG OUT SOMETIME! I THINK YOU CAN MAKE GREAT PALS! LET’S MEET UP AT HER HOUSE LATER!”
Frisk was hesitant about hanging out at Undyne's home at Waterfall. She did try to kill them for their SOUL and already felt uncomfortable. But if they want to make peace with her, what choice do they have?
“Sure…” They reluctantly said.
“HUMAN? ARE YOU ALRIGHT?” He asked in concern. “YOU SEEMED...DISCONTENT. DID SOMETHING HAPPEN?”
“It's fine, don't worry about it.” Frisk lied. “I'll be there shortly.”
After the phone call, the thirteen-year-old child stood silently since now they must backtrack to Waterfall to “hang out,” so Frisk turned and left the area.
“I better meet up with Papyrus to visit the crazy fish.” Frisk sighed as they headed south. “I HOPE she apologizes for her actions….then again, I doubt she will.”
Along the way, they saw a hooded stranger on the boat; as they approached the figure, it spoke, “Tra la la. I am the riverman. Or am I the riverwoman...? It doesn’t really matter. I love to ride in my boat. Would you care to join me?”
“Um, y-yes,” The child replied as they climbed onto the boat.
“Where will we go today?” The riverman asked.
“To Waterfall, if you don't mind.”
The hooded monster smiled and looked at them. “Then we’re off.”

“Tra la la. The angel is coming... Tra la la.”
Notes:
I apologize for taking so long for this chapter to finish. Tbh, I don't particularly appreciate how this chapter turned out. I tried many directions and edited the dialogue and plots, but this is the best I can do. Hopefully, the story in the next chapter will be better than this one. Also, I DO have some interesting ideas for the Hotland Arc that involves more of Gaster's followers, so be on the lookout.
