Work Text:
The three were sitting at the table. Mina was looking through her emails, Chaeyoung was writing a letter, and their son, Minyoung, was just sitting there, rolling a pencil around. He picked it up and sighed, causing both of his mothers to look up.
"Something wrong, Minyoung?" Chaeyoung questioned as Mina looked attentively towards him.
"I want my life to fast forward." he stated, while looking closely at the pencil.
"Fast forward, why?" Mina asked him.
"It's boring. Being 4 is boring." he replied, while Mina looked at Chaeyoung.
The two seemed to be communicating with their eyes, and once they were finally finished, they turned their attention back to Minyoung.
"How about we go out to have some fun?" Chaeyoung questioned.
"What kind of fun?" Minyoung asked.
"We can go to the zoo if you want to." Mina told him, and he eagerly nodded.
'Let's go right now! And can we go to the park afterwards?!"
Chaeyoung chuckled, "Of course."
The three got ready to go and made their way to the car. The ride to the zoo was quiet, they weren't talking too much, but that was just because they were absorbed in different things. Chaeyoung was driving, Mina was looking out the window, and occasionally looking towards the back seat, while Minyoung was knocked out. He fell asleep within the first 10 minutes of the ride, which explained why the car got quiet so quickly.
They were in the car for around an hour when they entered the parking lot of the zoo, Mina reached behind to the backseat and gently shook Minyoung awake.
"Five more minutes..."
"Sweetheart, we're here." Mina chuckled and Minyoung's eyes shot open.
"I wanna go look at the hippos!" he shouted and excitedly bounced in his car seat.
After Chaeyoung parked, the two got out and opened the door to the backseat, taking him out of his car seat and going to enter the zoo. Once they did, they spent hours chasing him around (he got way too excited looking at a lot of the animals). He even had his first encounter with a penguin.
"This one looks like you, mom." he pointed at the penguin while looking at Mina.
"The penguin looks like me?" Mina questions, and he nods rapidly.
"They all look like you!"
It wasn't what the two expected, but that's what made it memorable. What also made it memorable was the trip to the park afterwards. As soon as they got there, Chaeyoung took Minyoung to the swings.
"How high do you wanna go?" she asked him.
"Super-duper high!" he shouted.
"Alright, hang on tight!" she smiled and started pushing the swing.
Minyoung went high. A bit too high. The swing was starting to get incredibly close to the top.
"Maybe you shouldn't swing him that high, Chae." Mina told her as the swing went even higher.
"We'll leave it up to him," Chaeyoung looked at Minyoung, "Do you want to keep going higher?!"
"YEAH!!"
"Oh boy." Mina mumbled and shook her head.
Chaeyoung listened to Minyoung and continued pushing him higher when the swing did a flip. As the swing did a flip, Minyoung noticed just how high he was swinging, which.. caused him to throw up. And, thanks to gravity (and him being mid air), the vomit landed on Chaeyoung leaving him spotless, and then he plummeted to the ground.
"Holy crap!" Mina rushed over, "Min, are you okay?!"
"M-My knee.." he cried, holding his leg close to his chest.
Mina sighed, "This is why you both should've listened to me. C'mon, bud."
She picked up Minyoung into her arms and looked at Chaeyoung.
"We're going home so I can clean this scrape properly, and so that you can take care of.. that."
Chaeyoung nodded slowly and the three made their way to the car, this time, Mina drove. Once they arrived, Chaeyoung immediately made her way to the shower while Mina brought Minyoung to the sink.
"We're going to rinse off the scrape with some water, then we'll cover it with a band-aid, alright?"
"Mhm.."
Mina turned on the cool water and ran it over Minyoung's knee. Once she was finished she grabbed a band-aid and put it over the scrape.
"There, all better!" she hugged him.
"Thank you, mommy.."
Mina smiled picked him up, then set him back on the floor. She looked in the fridge for leftovers before realizing that there was nothing left from the previous day.
"You wanna help me make some pasta?"
"Yeah!"
Mina grabbed the small child apron and put it onto Minyoung. She brought over the stool, the ingredients, some appliances, and then the two got cooking. After about 45 minutes, Chaeyoung was finally finished with the shower and came out with a change of clothes.
"What's that smell?" she questioned as she made her way to the kitchen.
"I'm making food with mommy!" Minyoung shouted with a bright smile as he helped Mina stir the pot of tomato sauce.
"Well you're doing a great job!" Chaeyoung complimented and ruffled his hair.
"Dinner is just about done. You were in the bathroom for practically the whole process." Mina told Chaeyoung as she moved the strained pasta to the back of the stove.
"At least I didn't miss all of it," she replied, "Now lemme help!"
The three spent a few more minutes cooking and since Chaeyoung didn't get to do much, she offered to plate the food to which Mina and Minyoung agreed. As they ate, they discussed the day and all the adventures they went on.
"Now, about your comment from earlier," Mina began, "Do you still want life to go faster?"
Minyoung shook his head rapidly, "I want it to rewind!"
"Well, that's progress." Chaeyoung chuckled.
