Work Text:
“Oh, Floyd~~! You must know this!” Cater approached Floyd with a big grin plastered on his face, and without even waiting for Floyd's response, Cater shoved his smartphone screen towards his face, which revealed to Floyd of Cater's magicam post that contains a photo of Cater and his twin, Jade. “Look, look!”
“It's you and jade,” he said, the straw of his carton milk still pressed close to his lips. He pointed out the obvious, because he couldn't see anything worth seeing other than that. Cater giggled, and with that he knew his answer was somehow wrong. “Yeah, that's obvious! I meant look at the likes!! The comments!! This post is viral! Well — not as viral as Vil's posts, but still! The numbers exceeded my expectations!”
It's true, Floyd could see how Cater's screen is piled up with notifications for this post, he saw the numbers of likes went up right now, and there's no signs of it stopping soon. “Everyone is talking about your twin ~ they're basically asking for Jade's number! Haha, there are a lot of simps in my comment sections...”
Floyd's eyebrows raised in subtle amusement, “Hee ~ show me what they said.” Now fully interested, Floyd leaned closer to Cater. His heterochromatic eyes glued on the screen, watching Cater open its comments section; Floyd immediately greeted by blocks of text , covering Cater's smartphone screen to the fullest. It was from countless users, no one caught his eyes nor felt familiar — all of them are strangers … drawn by his twin's beauty. There's pride swelling in his chest, “See?” Chirped the third year, while scrolling the comments that seemed endless, “'Is this Octavinelle's vice housewarden? He's such an eye candy~’ oh, ‘I'm going to Mostro tomorrow!! I'm going to see this Jade Leech guy!’ That's good for you guys! Mostro's going to be bustling for the next few days, I assume ~”
“Azul would be veery thrilled, yeah.” there's some comments that asked for Jade's status in relationship, and was replied with someone that seemed to be one of NRC student; perhaps also one of Octavinelle, for such confidence in their answer — which reassured the original commenter that Jade Leech, in fact, does not have anybody in his hands yet. ‘Is he close with someone at least?’ and the replies were various; though the points are all the same — Jade is a socially active person, he talked with many people. Though indeed; it was done in a friendly yet still in a distant and polite manner. One user pointed out their closeness as a twin, though. It reads: ‘IDK if this counts but he's very close with his twin brother, always clinging on the hallways’ and somehow — the likes on this comment was quite big, there's also reactions to this comments; mainly them squealing at how cute it was.
Floyd reads some more, practically ignoring Cater's chirpings, the more he looked at the more it annoyed him — suddenly and without a reason he could grasp. Everyone is talking about how they wanted to date his brother, they talked of loving Jade like they know how to love him in the first place. At first it was amusing, and surely Jade deserved all of this attention. after all his brother is indeed what they said; a living work of art. Beautiful and magnificent, it's natural to have the world bow on his brother's feet.
Still, it annoyed him when he came to see unimportant little fishes went and commented on the things they wanted to do to Jade. ‘I WANT TO KISS HIM SO BAD FRRR' well, user iwanttobemonke98, Floyd is sure as heck you won't know how to please his dearest twin brother. If it's the one who's doing some kissing to Jade, then it must be him, first and foremost. ‘Can I hug Jade-san like fuckkk.’ No you can't, yelled Floyd inside his head. Cater chirped no more, the world was quiet but his head was not. Even he could not hear the grind of his teeth on his poor milk's straw; tattered now because of the jabs of his sharp teeth. “Haah ~ of course it's like this.” His grin is nothing but savage. “Jade is so preeetty, after all ~”
(Cater felt like it was wrong of him to show Floyd all of these comments. But oh, well.)

This small fry has been glancing at them for way too long. Actually, the stare was not directed to both of them, Floyd knew better; the damned fry is only eyeing his brother, Jade, who has his focus on the notes that Azul passed them not long ago. (It's a list of things that they must fetch before returning to their dorm. Mostro things.)
Sam's shop is peaceful, only the chatter of Sam with other students fills and bounces around the room. The life in Sam's shop wasn't something so intense, instead it flows like a steady, gentle river stream. It's a usual thing.
What's not usual is how Floyd, catching stares of someone else towards Jade; this guy is dumbly and blatantly enchanted, Floyd saw the glint on his eyes—spark of desire that sheds an ugly look to the small fry's face, a thing that somehow, ticked him off. His fingers itched to do something; preferably to claw those eyes out from its sockets, anything that would make this shitass stop looking at Jade. Floyd clenched and unclenched his hand; teeth gritted with the corners of his mouth turned downwards—Jade is still preoccupied with the things they must buy, chatting with Sam while digging some potential negotiation that maybe could lead them into some bonus. Whatever, Floyd is focused on shooting daggers with his eyes to this small fry; who's still ogling at Jade without taking notice of Floyd's growing wrath.
Great sevens, now the fucker is approaching closer. There's a faint blush on his cheeks! What the hell is going on in his mind? Floyd wished he would turn another way, but of course that small fry is only approaching closer and closer to them — and when he stepped real close to their vicinity, Floyd took a step between Jade and him, acting as an obstacle.
“What~?” A grin surfaced on his lips, it reached his eyes in a twisted manner; which jolted the small fry. His blush immediately vanished, now went pale instead — any sort of life and redness gone. Even by just looking at him, Floyd could see how his sudden appearance sent the small fry's heart sinking to the bottom of his stomach. “This is my spot in the line, man. No cutting queues, okay? Or I'll have to discipline ya.”
“A-ah .. So-sorry!!” it was an apology choked out from his throat, the guilt smeared on his face tells him more than it should; certainly he's thinking of something dumb to do towards Jade, and it was a good thing that Floyd caught him before he could do anything embarassing and tacky, yes?
“Ah, Floyd, you want to buy something?” Finally Jade finished their errands, now there's brown bags nestled in his embrace, “I'm sorry for holding the line, you can go now, Floyd.” Floyd responded with a hum, actually he didn't want to buy something — it's an excuse to stand between Jade, an act he did without a second thought. It was really a good thing there's candies displayed nearby; he grabbed some, and made quick work of transacting.
When they're leaving, Floyd still locks his glance on the small fry; still pale and fidgety, but at least his stare is somewhere else.

“Nice game, senpai! I would appreciate it more if you hadn't pushed the shit out of me!!” Ace complaints' was responded with a guiltless laugh from Floyd, “We won, anyway!”
There's a reason why he pushed Ace, though. When he's still in the game, he noticed a familiar figure hungs by the gym's door, with a smile accompanying his figure — Floyd realized that Jade took his time to visit him, instantly it made him pumped up; and even more impatient to win the game. So the push was necessary; to cut unnecessary moves and lead them to win without dragging things long. After all, it's Jade. And he wants to know what brought Jade here today, and that's natural.
“Good work, Floyd.” no other compliments tasted like Jade's, “Heheh ~ are you proud?” Floyd leaned in then, arms embracing his twin's figure by the waist, head rested on Jade's shoulder. Floyd could see how Jade's smile grew as he hugged him. Now the world melts, there's only two of them in the world — clinging at each other.
“Yes, I am.” a pat was assigned to Floyd's head, then gradually it became a loving caress; Floyd could not help but to grin at it. “Your three pointed shot was magnificent, Floyd. I'm glad I took my time to visit you for a while.”
“So you're not staying?” Jade's touch makes it hard to let go, really. Giving in to the comfort, Floyd indulges himself a little bit more; nestled his head closer towards Jade’s neck, getting even more glued to him. “No, regrettably I am not,” Jade’s expression shifted to something more somber, despite his fond smile. “In fact, I just want to pass you this,” Jade pulled out a water bottle, showing Floyd the reason why he visited the court. He couldn’t give the bottle when Floyd was practically clinging on him, so, in a playful manner; Jade pressed the bottle’s cool surface to Floyd’s warm cheek—that was responded with a ‘huh’ from Floyd. “I forgot to bring this?” with faint disbelief laced on his tone, Floyd grabbed the bottle on his cheek. “That’s why I can’t find it anywhere, nice save, Jade ~” The hug once again tightened, now Floyd is closer than before; his mouth almost brushed against Jade’s neck as he rested his head again. Jade’s giggle was late for one beat, as if he needed time to respond. But nonetheless, Jade still accepted the embrace, even continued the patting on his head.
“Now, now. I really need to go back.”
*
“Damn, Jade-senpai cares a lot.” Far from the gym’s door, a band of first years huddled together with their drinks, cooling off and steadying their breaths after one hell of a game. Like most people here, their attention was stolen by the reunited Octavinelle twins at the door. It’s hard to ignore how merry they are with each other, especially after Floyd Leech immediately sprinted to his twin’s side after he scored a crazy goal that put an end to their game. The basketball club members had better things to do, surely. But again, the twins were hard to ignore, them together sometimes created a show for mere onlookers. This band of first years was not an exception.
“Well, that’s his twin,” another one chimed in, eyes still glued to the tall figures by the door frame. “Natural enough.”
“Yeah, yeah, but like, I want someone to care about me like Jade-senpai did to his twin.” it raises various hums of agreement, “On second thought, I specifically want Jade-senpai caring about me. It must be nice.”
The confession was met with several giggles, “Heck, same. And he looked so beautiful! For what, damn?”
“For guys like y'all simp over him.”
“Fuck youu. But for real, though, no one has his number or something? Oi, A, aren’t you a former sea anemone?” asked a scarabia dorm member.
“And what if I am?! What makes you think I have the time asking around for Jade-senpai’s number? I am just a slave there—wait, that's Floyd-senpai returning. What do you guys think of actually asking him for the number?”
One shudders, “High fucking risk, bro.”
“Fuck it. High risk, high return. When I got Jade-senpai’s number, I’m not telling you all.” The scarabia dorm member stood up from his seat, before he took off, the scarabian sipped his water for the last time. As a means of preparing his mind. It was very much a common knowledge that, Floyd is something of a walking ticking bomb. He then jogged closer towards Floyd’s direction. There’s some cheer from behind, originated from his band of friends. The cheer actually motivated him further, “Leech-senpai! I want to ask you something!”
Floyd stopped, the raise on his eyebrows were slight; but the scarabian could see it though barely. “Hm~? What is it?”
Ah, here goes nothing. Let's just pray he wouldn't get smacked or whatsoever — but, really, Leech-senpai wouldn't do it, right? After all it was just a question, a harmless one. “Um. Nothing big, really, it's just. Can I get Jade-senpai's number…?” There, he said it. He said the questions that everybody has been asking about in a hushed tone. Now, the silence is heavier and more pronounced than ever as he waits for his senpai's answer. His eyes were averted everywhere, stomach twisted in nervousness; and when the answer didn't come on the expected time, he mustered the courage to finally look at his senpai.
Fuck.
Any traces of joy now completely wiped out from Floyd's face, his face darkens, and the stare that Floyd Leech gave him was akin to a blade — it stabbed through the scarabian's heart, in a way that is very much terrible. Has he stepped on a landmine without him noticing? But what he just did was asking for a number! How could that be something that triggered him? Nevertheless, the scarabian knew he fucked something up.
Floyd leaned his face closer to him, which he responded with one step to the back — a reflex upon meeting a predator. “No you can't,” he said, teeth bared, and the scarabian never felt so small before upon the presence of someone else.
The scarabian could only squeaked his panic when his chin was grabbed by Floyd's hand, his fingers dug hard to his skin—the scarabian was forced to look straight into the merfolk's heterochromatic eyes; the tension made him tremble. “You can't even ask Jade directly! You dream of getting close to him? Ahahah! I heard all of it, you know. Your idiotic yappings.”
His grip only went tighter, the laugh left his mouth molded into a grin, but the scarabian couldn't feel any ounce of joy or ease from it. “No one's gonna say it, so ~ you're just a small fry. Remember your place, okaay~?” The scarabian couldn't speak, but his terrified eyes might be enough for a response. “It's okay, though, if you really want to do something stupid! I will happily squeeze you. Heheheh ...”
With his chin finally freed from Floyd's grip, the scarabian immediately nodded in fear. “I-I- I won't!! Ever!! I deeply apologize, senpai!!” Great sevens, his legs are slowly turning into jellies. Before he could scurry off from the merfolk's sight, the scarabian performed repeated, panicked bows to the senior. Floyd stared at him still with his grin molded on his mouth, “Now, shoo.” he said at least. Which was obeyed immediately. Floyd lingered for a few seconds until he could see the scarabian rejoining his group again. They huddled together one more, now even tighter than before like sardines in a can. Floyd left shortly after that.

Soft chatters flow around the lounge, it's a peaceful, yet another busy day for Octavinelle dorm members. Everyone is working their part smoothly, taking orders and picking up their empty plates.
That was Floyd's job today.
He personally asked for not working in the kitchen, which Azul only agreed with raised eyebrows. Azul didn't say anything about it, as long as Floyd is working on his part; all is well.
The reason why Floyd wanted to freely walk around the lounge is for his selfish desire; it's to watch people. Especially those who got too close to Jade, those kind of small fry that have too much audacity stored in their chest—like that guy in Sam's shop, and his junior on the basketball club. Somehow Floyd has this urging will to chase all of them away, despite whether it was their freedom to approach his twin brother or not. Still, it ticked Floyd off, no matter if logic applied to this feeling that has been controlling him over the past days. Floyd doesn't actually know if Jade realized this, but so far he hadn't said anything. (Yet.) What if Jade said anything? He won't care. His attention was all spent on watching people around Jade like a hawk, stare sharp enough to jab their eyes one by one. He's indeed putting more energy to this watching, but Floyd is still doing his job decently.
Jade bounced from one place to another, flawlessly serving their customers like a star employee he is. So far it was good, until he realized Jade was taking way longer in one table; filled with Savanaclaw students, their ears were disgustingly perked up in excitement. This stomach twisted at the sight, Jade is leaning in — the customer is saying something, and Floyd doesn't like that. He does not know how, or why, but he's sure as heck he hates this vile sight.
Hence Floyd approached them, mindful of his steps; the merfolk made an effort to be soundless. Upon closer look, he saw a note on the customer's fingers, they're still conversing — Floyd tunes the conversation out, focusing instead on the hand with a paper note; a number, maybe. It must be the customer's number. What else?
“Well then, if you're free you can call—”
“Whoop!” Floyd snatched the paper from behind, face as innocent as a newborn baby. The customers were startled, totally didn't notice his presence between their flimsy attempt of flirting with his brother. Now his teeth bared, mouth molded again into a savage grin. “I see that our kind customers were already done with their meal! I'm going to get this,” Floyd waved the paper with his hand, “Cleaned. Out. Thoroughly.” His words ended with a little giggle, Jade watched at him — though Floyd didn't really realise, with wonder and amusement.
“Thank you for coming in!” His hand crumpled the paper mercilessly, then it was thrown to the ground like any other trash.
“A-a—aah! O-okay!! Thank you for having us—?!” With their senses finally returned, the students made quick work to get the hell out of there. Upon them leaving, Floyd could hear their pained grumble, strings of cusses at the birth of their failure. It satisfied him in many ways.
Meanwhile, Jade still watches Floyd with the same wonder. “Oya..”

Floyd is sure that today doesn't have any festive event going on. There's no Valentine, nor that day where you return a chocolate to someone that gave you one back in Valentine day, or anything that involves gift-giving. It's not even their birthday! November is still far, yet there's this small fry standing near his table with Jade and Azul, giving his twin brother a box of cookies.
“L-Leech-senpai! This is for you!” Like any other small fry that approached Jade, this one also has his face flushed with the color red. Floyd still kept up his silence, playing his meal with his fork; while side-eyeing the other two. Azul is invested, there's an amused grin painted on Azul's mouth, “Ha. It seems like Jade is gaining popularity these days.” Said Azul, directed to Floyd. Which was responded with a click of Floyd's tongue. He has no more patience.
“Thank you so much, despite the fact that we are not familiar, you still gave me this. May I know the reason behind this?” Now the box sat nicely on both of Jade's hands, the small fry is smiling ear to ear right now; happy that his present was accepted so smoothly. Floyd hates it, and his hate makes it hard to take his gaze away from them. He's still eating his meal, chomping down on the meat as if he's jabbing his teeth on some small fish.
“W-well! Nothing, actually … I-I just adored you … since the first years. So I just want to express my adoration with these cookies—!! With the hope we… can…be closer…”
Floyd jabbed his fork to his food like a blade. The clang successfully silenced the small fry; it was very much a warning. Another bullshit and Floyd would do wonders right here, right now.
“... a-as a friend! A classmate!! Nothing more!!"
Azul is making a face across him, but Floyd ignores it; staying still in his position—eyed still watches over the small fry like a predator. Jade paid no mind, “Fufu, then let's get along more from now on. Shall I taste these cookies? It looks so good—”
The itch is getting unbearable, Floyd could not stand anymore of this. He let the anger guide his body, which made him towered behind his brother, while his hand snatched the cookie that Jade took from the box. It was handmade, whoever this guy is, is really putting an effort into his gift. But still, it angered Floyd, and even he could not fully grasp or understand this quickness to anger that he had these days. It's confusing, but it's something that is almost natural to him. So, without explaining himself, Floyd devoured the cookies until there's nothing left, not letting Jade take even a tiny bite of it.
(Azul is mortified.)
“...Floyd, you didn't even try to leave me some.”
The small fry is out of words. Floyd only cackled, "We're twins so we need to share, right~! It tasted okay. By the way, little fishy. Now shoo. We're trying to eat here!” No response from the other, though he could see how his face pales like any other small fry before him.
Floyd ran his mouth more, “Aah? What is it, It was supposed only for jade? Who fucking cares? Why would Jade eat those fucking cookies, anyway? Scram.”
In heavy silence the small fry excused himself from their table. Floyd knew Azul and Jade is shocked right now, or atleast will question his behaviour. He could feel it coming already.
“Floyd, what the hell was that?” Azul broke the silence, and Floyd didn't even try to listen. “Must you go to such lengths? What did he do, anyway?” True, what did he do? His logical side told him that that guy didn't do anything, but somehow he had done something that made his heart rebelled—and Floyd found himself unable to contain his anger in check.
“Yes, floyd. I've noticed that you've been a bit more territorial than usual these past few days.”
Floyd doesn't want to hear more, his mood is already fouled, and he was bombarded with questions he wasn't sure what the answer was. So he left their table. Out of the cafeteria.
(“Wait, Floyd—! Geez .. what's wrong with him?”
“I have no idea either, Azul. I will handle it somehow.)
*
+1.
After the incident at the cafeteria, Floyd decided to skip his remaining class. His foul mood had already taken a deep root in him, leaving him unable to focus or sit in the class while someone lectured about something he didn't care about. He had taken a nap, up above a tree until the bell rings again, indicating the school is finally over.
Floyd is in the tree no more. He's inside the stream of students, flowing to many directions; their dorms, their club, or the cafeteria. The school's halls and garden is now lively once more, filled with the chatterings of students that wished to enjoy their evening after a hard day.
Floyd is on his way to Octavinelle, wanting to crash the bed. His shift at Mostro is at the bottom of his priorities now — Azul surely has some ideas of where might be, or why he's not showing up. Whatever is waiting for him at Mostro, it's his future problem.
In this stream of students, Floyd caught a head of turquoise in the greens of NRC's street, it's Jade, he knew it by heart, and someone else beside him — green hair, with a mark of clover on his cheek, and a glasses that sits on the bridge of his nose. Sea Turtle. Floyd stopped in his tracks, he did not try to call out Jade. Instead, he locked his gaze to their figure; close, closer than he considered as safe. They're conversing, about something that Floyd could not hear; they're too far, and the chattering around him drowned any voice coming out from Jade or Trey.
But indeed he could see how joyful his brother was. His eyes shaped into crescents as the corners of his mouth pushed his cheeks upwards into a smile, Floyd could almost hear Jade's soft giggle, and Jade looked so … so happy. This is a childish feeling, one that he already despised, but the jab was too true for him. A sting he could not ignore despite his attempts to ignore the feelings he had.
The world blurred into a violent storm, and he's stuck inside it, trashed around.
He could not bear seeing this any longer. Jade was so happy, there's no room for him to object, Jade looked so happy and Floyd wished his heart did not clench at it.
This time he couldn't drag himself to ruin it.
Floyd left with quickened steps.
(As if his hurried steps were loud enough for anyone to hear, Jade looked back at where Floyd used to be. There's a feeling that he would see Floyd. But there's nothing.)
*
bonus.
When Jade opened the door to their room, he saw a figure completely surrounded in blanket; Floyd Leech, his dearest twin brother, with his mood fouler than ever.
It's something interesting, yes, he had noticed Floyd's aggression towards anyone that tries to get close to him, he had spoken to several people. And Yuu, the prefect of Ramshackle dorm had an interesting opinion on this—which led to him entertaining possibilities he had never imagined before.
“Floyd,” Jade greeted him as a start, there's nothing coming from his brother, something that's to be expected. “Care to talk with me?” another silence from his other half. Jade's smile strained a little bit.
He took a seat beside Floyd, which, again, did not spark any reaction from Floyd. If it's going to be like this, then he must do something out of the ordinary to fish his brother's attention. Hence, Jade leaned closer, his fingers grabbing his brother's chin; forcing him to look at his two colored eyes. “Floyd.”
Unfortunately, Floyd is still stubborn with his silence. Though Jade saw the shift in his brother's expression. There's something melancholic, yet it's obvious Floyd is annoyed right now. Jade doesn't care, instead, he pulls his brother's chin closer to his; with some force he crashes his lips to his brother's—giving him a one sided, sudden kiss.
When they part, Floyd is a mess. He is as well, though Jade believes he still has some composure.
“Wha.. What was that for?” Finally Floyd reacted to him. With fingers pressed on his lips (Jade could still feel his brother's lips against his, not bad, not bad at all.) Jade smiled. “It seems what Yuu-san had said is true.”
He has an interesting view on this case, really. “What, the shrimpy said kissing me is a good idea? Both of you were out of your mind!” Jade chuckled at it, “The kiss is purely my idea. About Yuu-san .. well, he deducted, somehow that you're in love with me.”
“What?!”
“I'm doubting it at first, you see. But seeing your actions past these days .. you do resemble a jealous lover of mine.”
“...shrimpy is bullshitting hard!”
Jade approached Floyd once more, “He might be,” if the prefect of Ramshackle dorm is bullshitting, why did his words feel so right? Why was he hoping Yuu's words were true? Jade's finger landed on Floyd's lips, those lips that he had kissed earlier. “But it could be true,” Jade noticed the gulp Floyd took, “Right, Floyd?”
Another silence. Jade is one second away from dropping this topic until a hand caught his wrist. It was Floyd's. The expression that was painted on his brother's face is something he had never seen before. He's struggling — it was cute, in a way that made his heart jump.
Then Floyd sighed, without words he rested his head on Jade's shoulder; hand still gripping his wrist tightly. Jade doesn't know what to say.
“I don't know, okay. I don't know! I just hate it whenever some nobodies think they could get closer to you! I hate how they think they could love you, hold hands with you, kiss you even! I hate—ee it! I never even did those things with you!”
Jade listened closely, this is a rant that has been piling up.
“... and seeing you laugh happily with someone else is driving me mad. I hate that the most. You were having fun but I'm going insane over that, not liking it. It's so ... ridiculous. I hate it. But I want you,” Now Floyd is facing him again, eyes to eyes. “I want you so bad. I want all of you only for me, I can't bear to share parts of you to someone else, Jade.”
“Floyd …”
“This is the love that shrimpy talks about? I want you this badly, that's me falling in love?” The yearning Jade saw in his own twin brother's eyes was astonishing. It's something he wanted to come true, isn't it? This kind of gaze, only aimed for him, not someone else? Even without Yuu's opinion on this, Jade knew what this was.
“... It seems so, yes.”
Flush of red adorned his cheeks, Floyd guided his hand to touch his brother's cheek. Floyd leaned his head to the touch—his gaze unmoving. Locked only to Jade. “Shrimpy's bullshitting is true. I am in love with Jade.”
Jade's heart is thumping way too loud.
“Did Jade fall in love with me too?”
Jade doesn't know this would mess with his heart this badly. He needed a second before answering that question, which further deepened the red on his cheeks. Just minutes ago he thought nothing would sway him, but Flpyd had successfully thrown him off from his footing.
“... I definitely would, If you pay attention to me more than those guys.”
Jade saw melancholy no more, there's a new glint appearing on Floyd's eyes. Though, he couldn't observe it much longer, for Floyd had tackled him into a hug—his back contacted with their bed. The hug then shifted into a kiss, Floyd is the initiator more. The kiss was soft, a gentle and quick one.
“Jade should pay attention only to me too~♡”
A chuckle escaped from his lips, “I will. It's as natural as breathing. Though, you still need to apologize to the guy that gifted me cookies. It was pretty mean.”
“Eeeeeh~”
