Chapter Text
Shouta Aizawa didn’t regret many things. Now though, he was regretting a lot of things. The first thing he regrets is not expelling his entire class on the first day. Like yes, they all possessed some form of potential, but they all continuously caused problems. And it was starting to grow old.
The second thing Shouta regrets is not being able to prevent the USJ. No teenager should’ve had to experience something as traumatizing as that. They all had just freshly started high school, and they were already experiencing things seasoned pros didn’t have to go through until a couple of years on the job. So Shouta wished that the whole thing could’ve been prevented. Maybe if the faculty had looked into the break in a little bit more, they would’ve realized that something far greater was going on. No amateur reporter would ‘accidentally’ break UA’s gate. This should’ve been the first clue that something else was amiss, but of course they didn’t catch anything. One of them should’ve also noticed the slight signs of dust right next to where the gate had been. But no one saw anything, and 15 year old's had to pay the price for it. So yes, Shouta regretted not being able to prevent the USJ.
The third thing Shouta regretted was not being able to realize the spiral Iida was going through after his brother’s injury. He was an experienced pro, how could he have missed the signs? And the thing that made everything worse was that Shouta suspected that out of everyone, Midoriya was the one to realize Iida’s true intentions.
Shouta wasn’t stupid, and a cover story wasn’t going to stop him from figuring out the truth. What were the chances that Iida, Midoriya, and Todoroki were all in the same place at the same time while all having different mentors. Little to none. And when Shouta thought about it more, it made sense. Iida must’ve used the ruckus going on in Hosu to slip away and find the Hero Killer. He was probably dead set on getting some sort of revenge on the guy, also considering that Iida refused to get the surgery on his arm as a lesson. As if that wouldn’t clue him in on what was going on, then Shouta had no idea what would.
Then there was also the fact that Midoriya had somehow known that Iida would go after the Hero Killer. And with the self sacrificial streak the kid had going, it wasn’t that hard for Shouta to figure out that Midoriya went searching for Iida by himself, and ended up stumbling across the Hero Killer as well. Another thing that clued him into this is the fact that the rest of his students briefly talked about Midoriya sending his coordinates to all of them during internships. And while Midoriya’s simple excuse of, “It was an accident” worked perfectly on his classmates, it didn’t work on Shouta. It was obvious that Midoriya had sent out his coordinates because he had found the Hero Killer and knew that he wouldn’t be able to win by himself. So as a last ditch effort he sent his coordinates to his classmates.
And this is also where Todoroki comes in. Knowing Endeavor, he probably took his son to Hosu to hunt down the Hero Killer. So since Todoroki was already in Hosu, he was able to immediately respond to Midoriya’s message and help out with the Hero Killer. There was also the fact that all three of the boys had knife wounds, which definitely wouldn’t come from the nomus. So the only conclusion was that three first years had fought the Hero Killer by themselves because Shouta couldn’t even realize when one of his students was having trouble with his thoughts. Any one of them could’ve died at any time, and Midoriya happened to get lucky with gaining the Hero Killer’s good graces. If you could even call it that.
The fourth thing that Shouta regrets is again not being able to protect his students at the summer camp. Where they were staying was supposed to stay a disclosed secret, but they still managed to get attacked. And not only that, but one of his students had been kidnapped by the villains. It physically pained Shouta having to wait to save his student. And it was made even worse by the fact that he had to sit there handling a press conference on TV while the other heroes did the rescuing. Shouta so desperately wanted to be there to protect his student, but couldn’t.
And it also seemed that some of his other students had the same idea, considering they snuck out and witnessed the whole Kamino fiasco. He almost expelled everyone except Bakugou, Jirou, and Hagukure then and there. Because once again, his students could have died . If they had made one wrong move, they wouldn’t be around anymore. And as much as it pained Shouta to admit, he wasn’t even surprised. It just seemed like something his students would do. And he was sure that if no one else had gone, Midoriya would’ve gone by himself. The kid’s drive to save everyone was insane . Sometimes though Shouta just wished that Midoriya would tone it down to avoid giving him any form of a heart attack.
Now we’re here, to the fifth thing Shouta regrets. Shouta regrets letting Midoriya and Todoroki leave for the entire weekend. Because when they came back they just dropped a metamorphical bomb on him and then continued on their cheery way. The words that came out of their mouths didn’t even inconvenience them. They just stated it like the entire thing was normal . Which, it was far from normal.
His students coming back from one weekend, saying that they’re related to each other and two villains that have actively tried to kill them? Yeah…Shouta needed a break. A vacation. Maybe he could plead with Nedzu to give him one. He just couldn’t take his students' shenanigans anymore.
Sometimes he just regretted becoming a teacher. Especially since most of his tiredness came from teaching idiotic children. But Midoriya and Todoroki took the cake by far . Problem child number one and number two. They were together all the time and always managing to cause problems. It was insufferable. But unfortunately, Shouta did have to ask them about their new familial relations . Maybe if just for his own peace of mind, or maybe because he wanted to be a part of the chaos for once. Because if everything his two problem children said was true , then they would have to tell the class somehow . And he wasn’t against making it as fun as possible.
Why would he allow this? Well, if they truly had met up with the League, they hadn’t been killed, and they came back looking like they had just had the life pushed right back into them. So he was willing to give this a chance, especially since it could lead to some other interesting experiences later down the line.
So Shouta was just sitting in his office after school, waiting for the two problem children to come. And pretty soon after, his office door was being opened, and in walked his two students. They both calmly sat down on the couch across from him, and then waited for him to start the conversation. And after a little bit of tense silence, Shouta started talking.
“So…you two wanna explain to me why you went out this weekend?”
Shouta then patiently waited for them to start talking. The two looked at each other, making it clear that they were having their own silent conversation. And eventually they both looked back at Shouta before talking.
“Izuku and I were in my room looking at my conspiracy theories when he mentioned that his father had a fire breathing quirk.” Todoroki started.
Oh. That was different. It seemed his two problem children had somehow started calling each other by their given names over the weekend. Shouta kinda just wished he had never asked about what they went out for anymore.
“We both then realized that fire quirks are super rare, which led us to coming up with the theory that our fathers are related.” Todoroki said.
Of course . Shouta should’ve known this whole debacle would’ve started out with something stupid.
“And then obviously Shouto and I asked for your permission to leave. We just wanted to ask Endewhore if he had a brother or not.” Midoriya chimed in.
Endewhore? Where the fuck did that come from? Midoriya was never one to swear, so Endeavor must’ve had to do something pretty fucked up to garner that name. Though Shouta found that the name actually kinda suited Endeavor pretty well. Maybe he could start using it in his free time.
“We then left early in the morning and made our way to Shouto’s house. When we got there we went straight to Endewhore’s office to ask him our question.” Midoriya said.
Todoroki nodded. “We then asked Endewhore if he had a brother, and when he said yes, Izuku asked if his brother happened to be named Hisashi. And when he said yes, we had our answer.”
“Yep! My father’s name is Hisashi.” Midoriya said. “And Endewhore also ended up using my phone to call my dad, not that it went well.”
Okay, that was a lot to unpack. For starters, Todoroki was also calling his father Endewhore? Why would he do that? But then Shouta wondered, did he honestly want to know the answer to that question? Most likely not. And then there’s also the fact that Midoriya and Todoroki were related and didn’t even know it until this weekend. Just peachy.
“We left his office quickly, and then talked to my siblings about our findings. Which is also when Natsuo mentioned Dabi and how he had a blue fire quirk just like our older sibling Touya.” Todoroki continued.
Midoriya smiled. “That’s when we decided to leave Shouto’s house and track down Dabi to ask him if he was Touya Todoroki!”
Shouta wanted to jump in a ditch and die. Or maybe just lay there for a while and contemplate his life choices.
“Why, just why?”
Todoroki tilted his head in confusion. “Why not?”
Ugh
“You know what, just carry on.” Shouta said in exasperation. He seriously didn’t have enough energy to deal with this. And he bet that they just barely scratched the surface of all the idiotic things the two problem children had done this weekend.
“Anyways, we tracked down Dabi to Aichi Prefecture. So Fuyumi drove us all there, and then we lured Dabi out.” Midoriya explained.
Okay, so not only did two of his students hunt down a highly dangerous criminal, but they also brought along Todoroki’s siblings. Great, just great. And he bet that they did even more stupid stuff.
“Do I wanna know how you lured Dabi out?” Shouta questioned cautiously.
Todoroki shrugged. “It was pretty simple. Izuku just stood suspiciously in an alleyway, while I waited on the roof and Fuyumi and Natsuo watched from the car until we had Dabi.”
Shouta facepalmed. Of course their plan involved the problem child being bait. Yes, just stand suspiciously in an alleyway and hope the villain that has tried to kill you walks right up towards you. How smart .
“Our plan worked of course, and Dabi walked right up to me.” Midoriya said while smiling. “And then of course Shouto jumped down from the roof while Fuyumi and Natsuo blocked the alleyway’s exit.”
Shouta sighed. Of course the plan was stupid enough to actually work. And of course Dabi just had to walk right into it. “Okay..what happened next?”
“We convinced Dabi that we should have a family reunion, because he was obviously Touya, and then we went to his apartment. We then continued to play a game where we went around asking each other questions.” Todoroki replied.
“And Dabi just…agreed to this?” Shouta asked slowly.
“Yes.” Todoroki replied blandly.
Alright Shouta, just breathe. Don’t think about how everyone is just a bunch of idiots. Be calm , be rational . Oh fuck it all.
“Please just….continue.” Shouta stated tiredly.
Midoriya nodded. "Anyways, everything was going fine, until Dabi decided to mention that it would be pretty funny if I was related to Shigaraki. Me being the curious person I am, proceeded to call my mom and ask her what her maiden name was. It ended up being Shimura, the same as Tomura’s.”
Shouta regretted everything. He wanted to go home, maybe drink some alcohol, maybe drink a little more, and then just pass out in his bed and forget this conversation ever happened. And the worst part was that the conversation wasn’t even over yet. And oh, apparently Midoriya was allowed to call Shigaraki ‘Tomura’ now. Which also further solidifies that the two problem children did meet up with the League at some point. Oh yes, did Shouta forget to mention he needed a raise?
“So Dabi asked me if I wanted to tell Tomura, and after a couple of minutes, I said ‘fuck it.’ That’s also how the five of us ended up in the League’s base.” Midoriya continued.
Shouta couldn’t take this anymore.
“Then we basically just retold the League all the information about our new familial relations that we had discovered. And finally, we spent the rest of our time just playing games with the League and planning pranks on Endewhore.” Todoroki finished.
Shouta sighed. While he could tell that the two of them had deliberately left out some information, he honestly didn’t care. He was just glad that this conversation was over because he wanted to just lie down and take a nap.
“Was that everything you needed from us Sensei?” Midoriya questioned.
“Yes…thank you for answering my questions.” Shouta responded dryly.
“Does this mean we can do things with the League in the future?” Todoroki asked.
This made Shouta pause. Could they ? Maybe he should ask Nedzu first. Oh wait, who was he kidding, the rat probably already knew . And honestly at this point, he didn’t care. As long as they included him in on some of the pranks, then he couldn’t care less.
“As long as there is no murder involved, and you occasionally include me in on these pranks.” Shouta responded.
At that, the two problem children grinned and got up. They then gathered their stuff, thanked him, and walked right out the door. And thank god for that because Shouta needed a nap. He could worry about the fury he just unleashed upon the world later. Naps were his priority at the moment, and nothing else mattered.
Except that he
really
regretted letting those two go out for the weekend. That was it.
