He wonders if her blood is comparable to the unworthy. If it's red and tastes like metals, if it'd stain and spread slow into the dips of her clavicle. He thinks back on her moments of childish fluster, pink along her shoulders, up into her neck and cheeks when she'd laugh. And over the years he's felt the rapidity of her pulse on rare occasions, amid an embrace or comforting hold on her wrist. He's seen a vaguely red split on her lower lip, mouth always hesitating on some bout of insipid generosity or unwanted kindness.
She's looking at him now, and he's found himself on the precipice of wanting her.
