"I was right, wherever you go there is war, ruin and death!"
Mobius' blood froze in his veins as he heard these words while crossing the timedoor.
Earlier, Casey, who was monitoring the missions, had called him in an emergency to say that Loki's team had just encountered a variant of Odin.
Mobius approached the two men and analyzed the situation in a flash. The Odin variant didn't seem hostile in itself, but Mobius didn't dwell on it, he looked at Loki and what he saw broke his heart. Loki was as if frozen in place. He did not answer the Odin variant, no spark of malice emanated from him, everything in him screamed hurt.
Moving closer to him and standing by his side, as close as possible, he turned his attention back to the Odin variant who continued his diatribe, full of disdain, "You are the regret of my life, you will have disappointed all my hopes, I should have left you in your ice realm. You are not worth-"
"Mobius!"
Loki came out of his silence, stunned, and looked at Mobius who was holding his hand, overlooking the Odin variant who lay on the ground holding his chin.
"You have no idea who he is! You have no idea what he has accomplished! He has more worth in his little finger than your whole divine self will ever have. This Loki you see here..."
Mobius pointed to him and continued, pride evident in his voice, "He has defied what you condemned him to in order to become the best version of himself. Since then he has done everything to atone for what he did. He has learned to love himself when it was your duty as his father to teach him that. So I will not let you destroy everything he has managed to build."
He turned to the members of Loki's team and said, "You know what you have to do, I will take responsibility for my actions at the TVA."
One of the young hunters stepped forward and replied, "There's nothing to take responsibility for, we haven't seen anything."
Mobius nodded and turned one last time to the still down Odin variant, "You see, he now has loyal friends who understand that people have the right to change if given the chance. Come on Loki."
He took the hand of the still stunned Loki who took one last look at the variant of the one who had played the role of his father before turning away.
When they reached the TVA, Mobius continued to walk with an angry step. As they passed through a rather deserted hallway, Loki stopped him, "Mobius wait!"
Mobius halted and turned around, his face softening as his gaze met Loki's.
Loki shook his head, "I can't believe you did that."
Mobius' jaw tightened, "Believe me I wanted to do more. How dare he? He doesn't even know you! He's not even the Odin of your timeline! He dares to judge you! I couldn't let him continue. What?"
Loki looked at him, a wonder-struck expression on his face.
"You did this. For me."
Mobius walked over to him and took his face in his hands, "Of course. You didn't do anything to deserve this. And I'm so mad that you had to hear all those lies. Don't believe anything he said. It was all lies. He doesn't know you. He doesn't know how amazing you are. If I could, I'd put him on a time loop to hit him over and over. I..."
"Kiss me..." breathed Loki.
"What?"
"Kiss me." repeated Loki more firmly.
Mobius drew Loki's face to his and pressed his lips to his. The kiss was soft and caring at first before turning passionate.
Mobius brought his hands up to bury his fingers in the black curls. Loki pulled him closer until their chests met and ran his hands down Mobius' back.
Mobius brushed his tongue over Loki's lips before exploring every inch of his mouth and their tongues caressed each other in an endless dance, both familiar and new.
When they had to part to catch their breath, Mobius kept Loki's lower lip between his teeth before releasing it gently, putting a last lick on it.
For a moment, neither of them opened their eyes, basking in the perfection of the moment.
There was nothing perfect about the place, the circumstances, the time, but their kiss, their union, their love, that was perfect.
And that's what mattered.
