Work Text:
Platonic, family, or romantic, your choice. I wanted to leave most of this up to interpretation. Sometimes we need a boyfriend, sometimes we need a sweet older brother figure. Sometimes we just need a friend. Regardless of who you need in this moment, I hope Masaomi will bring you happiness.
If you'd like to help me out a little, take this survey! It's short and anonymous, and about your fav boys :)
Holding the glass to your lips, you stared down in to the brown liquid. You had done everything right. You had worn your mask, and stayed away from crowded areas, and it had worked for 8 months. And yet, when you stared at the two red lines, your worst nightmares were confirmed.
You had been hiding from the rest of the family since. This was normal for you, you could go weeks without seeing any of them and that would be fine. But Masaomi was going to be back from the hospital soon, and he wasn’t leaving for work tomorrow. Which meant there was no way to avoid him.
Ah well. You could just tell him it was a cold. It was cold season anyway.
Setting the now-cold tea on your bedside table, you fished around for the remote in hopes of finding something interesting on TV. You were given all the time in the world, and yet you had no clue what to do with it. A whole week of laziness. You could graze like a cow in the pasture. But your stomach never felt empty, and your body never wanted to move.
Turning the TV off, you pulled your blankets higher over your head, and turned to your phone for entertainment. Before you could find something to hold your attention, there was a knock on your door.
“Come in,” you mumbled without thinking. “Masaomi’s home,” Kaname said through the door. You groaned in response. The sound of the door handle signaled that Kaname had entered. You made sure to turn away from the entrance.
“Is everything okay? Don’t you want to come meet him?” Kaname asked. “I’m good,” you reply, hiding your messy state beneath your covers. “He’s home in time for dinner though. And this week is your favorite meal,” he reminded you.
“Can we postpone it?” you meekly ask. “Why?”
Why… It was a question you had about a lot of things. Why you? Why would you get sick now ? Why did Masaomi have to come home now ?
“I’m sick,” you harshly respond. “All the more reason for Masaomi to play doctor. I’ll get him,” Kaname said, and closed the door behind him before you could protest.
“Crap,” you muttered, unsure of how you could hide your illness from a doctor. Pretend you were asleep? Maybe. But something told you that wouldn’t be successful. May as well face the music.
You threw the covers off your body and practically crawled to the bathroom, trying to make yourself presentable. Your hair was a mess. Your skin looked sickly.
“You in here?” It took a moment for you to process everything.
“Masaomi, you shouldn’t be in here,” you responded, pressing a hand against his chest, but not quite pushing. “Are you okay?” he asked, crouching down to your height.
You didn’t respond. You couldn’t hide it, and you couldn’t lie, at least not to him. His eyes scanned over you, and he grabbed your hand. “How long have you been sick?” he asked, pulling you away from the doorway of your bathroom to your bed.
You glance behind you at the pile of dishes and resign yourself to the lecture that was to come. “About a week,” you whisper.
“Oh, gosh,” he said. You expected his voice to be firm, but instead it was sad. “I’ll see if I can take off next week. You should’ve told me you were sick sooner,” he said, wrapping his arms around your shoulders.
“No, wait, you can’t!” you said, recoiling. “It’s… Y’know. I can’t have you getting sick,” you said, but he didn’t let up. “Let me go get you some soup,” he said, placing a kiss on your head. Daring. You hadn’t even been able to get out of bed long enough to take a bath for the past 3 days.
“Masaomi?” you ask, hoping he hadn’t left already. “Yeah?” he called back. “Thanks,” you said with a smile.
