Summary
Alina Starkov was raised by her mother a princess of Shu Han. Keeping her powers a secret most of her life from her extended family she is a relative outcast and black sheep of the Kir-Taban Dynasty. When one of her elder cousins is having her Engagement arrangement ceremony in the palace she meets the feared General of the Second Army a man everyone in her family despises. But she is intrigued by her opposite in power. The two slowly grow close during their time together and The Darkling helps plot Alina's escape into Ravka where she freely uses her powers. But both parties are more ambitious than either first realizes and the Royal families of both Shu Han and Ravka will never make anything easy for the Shadow and Sun Summoner.
