Chapter Text
Whoa, you let your feet run wild
Time has come as we all go down
Yeah but for the fall—oh, my—
Do you dare to look them right in the eyes?
~~~
ok ok the 'romance' probably isn't the strongest part lol, i tried
Gritting your teeth as the grunts forced you along, Jake still walked ahead at the front, still silent. Not one of your thoughts now were calm, too lost in what had happened.
You wanted to lash out, ready to dish out some punishment, causing your arms to twitch at your sides as you fumed to yourself.
But in all truth, you didn't really want to, knowing if you let your emotions control you they could just easily leave you here in the snow.
After all, you weren't all that important, you were just someone caught in the cross-hairs of Team Eclipse.
Or so you figured.
Once most of the anger eventually dissipated, so did your obliviousness to the cold. All of a sudden, it seemed, the wind lashed at your exposed skin, and you tried to suppress a shiver. Your arms were starting to feel a bit stiff, and you could also tell that your nose was now numb.
At the wrong moment, your shivering was at its worst as Jake glanced back, before he started slowing down so he was now walking alongside you.
The grunts took the lead, but you paid them no attention as you looked to a very nice rock that was certainly a good point of interest, sensing him beside you.
''Here.'' You hear him mutter, and you felt a piece of cloth- his admin cloak, now fall onto your shoulders, still warm from his body heat. As much as you wanted to shrug it off, the warmth it provided proved irresistible.
Still, you wanted to be anywhere but here... paradise seemed like an eternity away now. With nothing else to do, your thoughts slipped out of the present, and into the past.
A gentle breeze tickled the back of your exposed neck, as you stepped out of the route gate. Your mood instantly brightened as you spotted Jake, who had his back turned to you.
Silently, you creep up on him, a mischievous grin slowly growing on your face, you then pause as you're about to pounce. A light giggle escaped you, before you tap his shoulder.
Jake turned around quicker than you expected him to, tackling you to the ground within a matter of seconds. You grunt, landing on your back as you feel his weight on you.
He quickly realized you weren't a stranger meaning any harm to him, with an embarrassed look he scrambled back onto his feet, turning his gaze to the view set before you.
''You really did scare me there,'' He spoke up, looking back at you briefly. ‘'I'm.. glad you caught up with me. And you took on Team Eclipse, that's great as well.''
You cross your arms as you raise an eyebrow, looking to him questioningly.
''I could never be as brave as you are.'' He murmured, sadness staining his words, filled with guilt for the fact he didn't turn up to help.
Taking a deep sigh, you walk forward, seeing a few trainers up ahead. ''Dunno 'bout that, but you did just knock me to the ground a few seconds ago.''
You smile a bit as you hear some chuckling from him, though it doesn't last that long, as he wasn't in high spirits.
''How about we take out these trainers?" He perked up, looking to you. Surely, it would help improve his mood. You nod in return, and the two of you grinned.
Side by side, you and Jake battled the trainers, with your Pokémon doing the same. There was a lot of fun, and after each battle Jake healed up your team, as well as his.
But you stopped as you noticed a little tree blocking a small area, which seemed to be interesting. Jake noticed as well, as you brought out your Pokémon that knew Cut, taking the tree down.
The little tree fell down, and the two of you went into the small area, seeing a cute little pond with a bridge on it. It was pretty in your opinion, and so you sat down, with Jake doing the same.
His hand brushed yours as both of you sat down, so he quickly retracted it, looking away as his face reddened ever so slightly. You weren't completely oblivious to it, however, unfortunately for him.
''You did pretty well back out there.'' You commented, leaning on the stone wall behind you.
''Well, it was mostly you, I just helped heal up your Pokémon.'' He's not sure what to say in response to the compliment. He just wasn't used to it.
''Jake.'' His gaze finally met yours, as you looked at him seriously. ''I'm not kidding when I say that, okay? You were having fun, and it honestly made me happy to see what you and your Pokémon could do together.''
For a moment, Jake looked like he was deep in thought, before he nodded. ''You're right, about me doing well. I did want to point out your skill though.''
''Well, thank you. I.. have to be honest, I like having you around.'' You admitted, feeling a few Butterfrees in your stomach.
He looked over to you, as you do the same for him, meeting each other's gazes. You both fell silent, but it wasn't uncomfortable for once.
The warmth of the sun's rays shone down upon you two, bringing warmth as the entire world seemed to be at peace, even for a moment.
But.. your surroundings flickered for a moment. From the little area with the small pond lit by the sun's rays, to an unforgiving mountain battered by blizzards.
Then, it was normal again.
Jake smiled genuinely, the warmth of his smile making you happier as well.
''Hey, maybe one day you'll be strong enough to defeat me in battle.'' You assured him confidently with a grin.
Nowadays, you just weren't so sure of yourself anymore.
