"That will be 363 yen please"
"Right, here's the payment"
That was the voice of Natsuki Subaru talking to a cashier in a convenience store near his house. he is buying snacks and a cup of ramen while wearing his beloved grey tracksuit
Natsuki Subaru is the son of the famous athlete Natsuki Kenichi, you may think that being the son of someone so great will be all fine.
Subaru doesn't think so. He is crushed by the weight of pressure that being the son of Natsuki Kenichi, everyone expects him to follow his father's greatness.
And he simply can't fulfill those expectations. Instead of working hard to fulfill those expectations, he chose the easy way, Running away. Subaru locked himself up, he abandon his study in high school. And his parents don't help either, it's been months since Subaru last went to school, Naoko and Kenichi failed to encourage their son to keep on marching forward.
Subaru knows this is his fault entirely and he knows he is,
"... a disappointment"
Subaru says to no one in particular, now outside of the store in the middle of the night
But his parent's love did not diminish, why?
'Why do they still love a disappointment like me?'
That is the question that Subaru kept on asking this past few months. And he has yet to find the answer.
'I love you'
"Huh? What was that?"
As he said that his vision become darker and darker, the streetlight barely illuminating the surrounding before the light vanish.
'What? Am I passing out?'
'No can't be I can still think straight'
That's the sentence he wants to say but no words are coming to his mouth
He found himself in the eternal darkness with no light coming through, it feels like closing his eyes because he now can't see his own body. Just a consciousness drifting in the sea of darkness
Suddenly he can see Someone? Or Something? In his vision, it looks like a human but the face is covered with black cloth, all Subaru can see is the white hair that is long enough to not be covered by that cloth.
"I love you"
"But I can't just send you now with that body, otherwise you will experience something that no living being should ever experience."
As a silver bell voice says to him, he noticed there's a bit of sorrow in her voice, he can also barely see tears escaping the cloth that is covering her voice
What? Send me? To where? Who are you?
So many questions are in Subaru's head right now.
But there are no words that come out of his mouth.
'But still why is she crying?'
"I hope he will be able to protect you in this world, My Beloved"
Again more questions popped into his thought
'He? Beloved? What the fuck is going on right now?
"We do not have much time, my beloved, I wish you good luck, and I hope you will never experience those again, and finally,..."
As Subaru eagerly wait for more information, she took off the cloth that is covering her face. Revealing a silver-haired elf with a beautiful face and yet a sorrowful face.
"You can kill me."
What? Kill you? Why do I need to kill you?
Questions keep on appearing in his mind but before he can voice that a bright light suddenly shines through the sea of darkness.
'What is going on-'
As Subaru voiced his thought he suddenly interrupted by a voice
"Huff Huff, finally it is over"
"We did it Louanna, you did it, I don't know what to say, but thank you"
'Did what? Can somebody please answer my question?'
Subaru's vision slowly recovering, he saw an unfamiliar ceiling, with minimum lights.
"There is no problem during the labor and Lady Louanna doesn't have any problem after the labor. The babies seem fine too. One male and one female as expected. "
'Labor? Did I just watch some stranger giving birth?'
"Lord Heinkel, Lady Louanna, congratulations."
A man that appears to be the doctor that oversees the labor, tells what appears to be the husband.
"You hear that Louanna? You did it, oh my Od"
The wife who had been panting for breath, after giving breath give a smile to the husband
"Yes we did it, my love, thank you."
"No I'm the one who should be thanking you, you're the one who worked hard, while I can only cheer you up"
While the scene was undoubtedly beautiful, Subaru was still confused as to why he had to watch all that stuff.
"With that my job here is done, I will take my leave, and once more Congratulations Lord Heinkel and Lady Louanna."
The doctor then packed his stuff and is ready to leave
"Thank you so much Wagner, for your help."
The wife that Subaru believes is Louanna give her thanks while the husband that Subaru believes is Heinkel bow to him
As the doctor left the room, Heinkel who Subaru noticed had flaming red hair picked him up.
'Here I thought I was just a ghost stalking strangers giving birth. Wait a minute...."
But Heinkel didn't stop there he picked up another baby next to Subaru. And walked to Louanna
"Only one more thing to do heh Louanna?"
Heinkel gives Subaru to Louanna while Heinkel holds another baby,
"Your name will be Reinhard, Reinhard Astrea. You are the older brother that's why you must protect your little sister."
'Ah, so I'm reincarnated then? from their name I suspect I'm in Germany '
"And you young miss is Reina Astrea, life might be hard for both of you, so always be there for your older brother."
'So my name is Reina then, a cute na-. Wait I'm a girl? I thought reincarnation should be the exact same as the previous life? And a little sister too? Guess this is karma or a gift for the crossdressing I did'
"Well, this is interestiiiiiing."
A certain man that just read a black book on his desk and frowned his face
"She is an Astrea and also the twin sister of the soon-to-be the Sword Saint tooooooo."
'There is not much I could do right now to test that ability and teacher didn't order me either, I do not have any other choice except wait until the next order'
"But visiting her wouldn't hurt riiiiight?"
The man who dressed like a clown that also has a strange accent says to no one in particular
"Soon Teacher will be reunited again, we are so close."
