"I can't take your apology seriously if you're giggling like that," Ace pouted as he side-eyed his girlfriend who had been trying her hardest not to laugh.
"But it's not entirely my fault, is it? If you hadn't flailed your arms and had just kept holding onto me, you wouldn't have fallen from the jet ski in the first place," Isuka countered, still very much amused at the reason why her boyfriend ended up almost drowning.
"I was living in the moment!"
"And you could have died in the moment, too. If I hadn't noticed sooner, you'd be one with the fishes right now.”
"But you came back for me, so all's well."
"Uh-huh, so why are you still sulking?"
Ace didn't answer. He kept pouting and kicked the beach sand. The pearly white grains went in between his toes, but the spilling wave quickly washed them away.
Isuka hugged Ace's arm. She looked at him and tilted her head. Ace met her eyes and as he thought, he couldn't stand silent treatments, even when he was the one doing it.
He stalled for a moment and muttered, "Well...I was expecting you'd give me a mouth-to-mouth when we reached the shore."
This time Isuka couldn’t hold it. "What??? But you weren't even unconscious! You didn't need it!" She managed to say in between her laughter.
Ace blushed but continued, "It would be like our first kiss."
Isuka raised an eyebrow. "What? I don't remember our first kiss with you almost drowning."
"Remember that time when Spadille got badly wrecked and my crew had to stay on this one island for almost a month?"
"Yeah, that was the longest I stayed on one island, too."
Ace chuckled at the memory. "Yeah. Remember that time when I was alone on the ship and you jumped in? I dodged one of your attacks and landed on a damaged taffrail and fell into the sea."
Isuka gaped as she remembered which one Ace was talking about and where he was heading down in his memory lane.
"No way! That wasn't a kiss and definitely not our first!"
"How come? Our lips touched. It was a kiss."
"It was not! I just gave you CPR that time. And you were unconscious. It would be as if I took advantage of you."
"It’s not ‘taking advantage’ if you helped me and if I liked it."
Isuka couldn't refute. Still, she preferred that their first kiss be the one they shared when they confessed to each other. It was sweet and tender.
"How could you consider something so unromantic to be our first kiss?" She mumbled.
Ace cupped her face in his hands and smiled. "You saved my life back then, Isuka. There’s nothing more romantic than that."
Isuka smiled back. "So, you were sulking earlier because you didn’t get a kiss?"
"Well…yeah."
Isuka giggled. She gently grabbed Ace's nape, pulled him closer, and gave him a peck before they went for a full liplock. As it sunk in that they were just exchanging banters a while ago, they smiled and laughed as they continued kissing, and when they pulled away, they fondly stared into each other’s eyes, silently telling the other what their hearts were beating.
“You know how much I love you, right?”
