Work Text:

“—So there I was, just. You know. Staring at her. When she bit her lip and I had to do it, Alex.” Kara sighed out, running a hand through her blonde hair. “Lena is so pretty, we’ve always known that… but this was a new level.”

You’ve always known that.” Alex interrupted.

Kara rolled her eyes, throwing a piece of popcorn at her sister. “Anyway, I just. Yeah. I probably am not straight. I just wanted to tell you first.” And make sure it’s okay goes unsaid— Alex heard it loud and clear.

“I’m proud of you. I’ve known you were a little fruity for a while but I’m so fucking proud of you for realising it yourself.” Alex solemnly spoke, picking a piece of popcorn off of Kara’s hair. “If you love her, I’ll still love you — and I know that mom and dad would too. I just have one question.”

“Yeah?” Kara lifted her head to look at her sister, a relieved expression on her face.

“Did you tell Lena any of this?” Alex squinted at her sister. Kara immediately slumped back.

“Course not. I was staring at her like…. Intensely. But I don’t think she realised what she caused.” Kara admitted. “The sheer, gay panic of it all.”

“Oh my god. Where is your phone?” Alex demanded, reaching over to smack Kara behind the head.

“It’s here, I turned it off earlier for Sister’s Night.” Kara grabbed the phone from her pocket and handed it to Alex who immediately turned it on.

24 unread messages and 12 missed calls.

“Oh Rao.” Kara’s eyes opened wide. “She’s going to kill me, Alex. Either that or she thinks I don’t want her.” her eyes filled with tears. “She can’t think that.”

“Go to her, Kara. Explain why you’re like this to her, and then later to me because honestly….” But whatever Alex said was cut off when Kara flew out of the room. “You got me, kid. Don’t doubt it.” Alex shouted after her.

The flight to Lena’s office took less than four seconds.

Lena was not there.

Kara’s eyes filled with tears — she rounded the corner and flew to Lena’s apartment instead. If Lena was so upset that she wasn’t working, then Kara needed to fix it right then.

She went up to the balcony door — her eyes sad and scared as she looked through the window. “Lena.” She shouted. “Let me in, please.” her breaths caused the glass to fog up.

Lena didn’t reply. But she did look up to see Kara making shapes in the fog. A heart, and then “K+L”. Lena blinked, hiccupping and then walked over to the door and let Kara in.

Kara didn’t give Lena a chance to say anything. Instead, she lurched forward and took Lena by the face —- kissing her.

Lena fell into it, kissing back like she was starved for affection that Kara was so willing to give.

“I didn’t know I wasn’t straight. And then I couldn’t stop looking at the way you bit your lip and I just wanted to bite it too and then I wanted to kiss you and I just—” Kara blurted. Kara kissed Lena again. “I’m not straight. I’m super un-straight, as it turns out.”

“I thought you hated me,” Lena whimpered into Kara’s mouth. “You had just – left.”

Kara kissed her again in an apology. “I would never hate you. And I’m sorry I left you, especially like that.. I won’t do that again.”

Lena sighed out restlessly. “Come on, let’s go sit down— you left before the movie was over.”

“Sounds like a perfect first date.” Kara’s eyes lit up.

“Oh no darling, when I take you out, I’ll look a little nicer than this. That’s a promise.” Lena corrected.

Kara ran a hand down Lena’s arm. She was wearing sweats and an old NYU shirt. Kara’s shirt. “You get any prettier, Lena Luthor, and you’ll be the first Luthor to kill a Super.” Kara warned her, making Lena blush.

“Yeah, okay.”
