Chapter Text
Steven woke up one morning with Layla curled up at his side, resting her head on his chest. He couldn’t help but look down and admire her beauty. It was really only moments like these that Steven got a taste of what a relationship was like. He felt a pang in his chest, knowing that Marc and Layla probably had a nice night together, something he wasn’t sure he’d ever get to experience. Before he could mope about it anymore, Layla began to stir awake, and Steven went rigid not knowing if he should speak or keep his mouth shut. “Hiya, g’morning” he timidly said. Layla rubbed her eyes and mumbled a tired “mornin” back, followed by a stretch and a yawn. She got out of their bed, and Steven swallowed hard when he saw she was wearing just a loose shirt and some black lace panties. She stretched her arms up and her shirt rose up slightly, revealing her stomach. “Oh bollocks…” Steven sighed as she walked towards their kitchen space to make coffee. Despite his new-found confidence, he always seemed to turn into putty around Layla.
He wondered if Layla would ever come to love Steven the way she loved Marc. It wasn’t impossible right? Steven remembered the kiss they shared, the moment they had, getting ready to enter the tomb of Ammit’s former avatar. It was his first ever kiss, and it made his heart warm just thinking about it. But along with that memory comes a (literal) punch to the face; Layla is Marc’s wife. It didn’t matter how deeply he’d fallen for her, it would be wrong to pursue a relationship with Layla without first consulting Marc.

“A Date?” Marc said as Steven’s reflection. “Look Marc, I know this isn’t.. ideal, but if we are going to be living with Layla I feel like I deserve to get to know her. I missed out on the fun dates and all that. Please, Marc.”
Marc sighed in the mirror. “If Layla is up for it you can go on a date…” “Really!? Cheers Marc-“ “But I will be there. Watching from every reflection. You mess up, you make her uncomfortable, you do anything that makes her upset I’m stepping in and ending it. Got it?” “I got it Marc, wow thanks bunches mate!” And after a couple sprays of cologne and a swift ruffle of his hair, Steven got ready to ask Layla El-Faoley on a date.
